Our Lady Basilica

Basilica & National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation Since 1875, pilgrims of many backgrounds and traditions have journeyed to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, Ohio to experience the powerful intercession and the maternal comfort of Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted. This Shrine began as a parish church in the 1860s, and then Father Joseph Gloden, a native of Luxembourg, inspired other immigrants

from Luxembourg living in Carey, to acquire a statue of Our Lady of Consolation, the patroness of their native land honored in the cathedral of the capital city. From the time that statue arrived, countless people have experienced God’s presence and Our Lady’s intercession in a powerful way right here. For people of faith, life is a journey leading ultimately to perfect joy and happiness in God’s eternal presence. A pilgrimage is a journey to a sacred place; it is symbolic of life’s journey and offers us an opportunity to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. Visitors may attend daily Mass in the Basilica or just enjoy some time for private prayer in the Original Shrine Church. The 30 acre Shrine Park with its shaded walkways and beautiful landscaping provides a natural setting for the Stations of the Cross. The Shrine Gift Shop offers religious books, rosaries and gifts for the shopper and is open seven days a week (closed holidays). Our Lady of Consolation offers a number of special events throughout the year. All are welcome at any time on their journey to faith, hope and healing. 10 • Bus Tours Magazine / November, 2020

afety has become the tallest hurdle that bus companies need to over-

come when planning on opening

back up or beginning to run routes again. The importance of distance and controlling exposure to the Coronavirus has many trav-

elers going it alone. Instead of relying on the ease of buses many travelers have begun to rely on personal transportation when traveling. A few bus companies however have begun to implement new technology and procedures that are starting to make buses as safe if not safer than a personal car. How many times is a car truly cleaned? Not just taking out some left over trash and wiping down the steering wheel, but truly cleaned and disinfected. For almost everyone that is definitely not an every day occurrence.

For the travel and transportation industries, however, daily thorough cleanings are nothing new. Airplanes, buses, hotel rooms and more are judged based on their cleanliness.

a small business is thinking about bankruptcy, have them read this before taking action. Let me start out with a heavy-duty disclaimer. This is being provided for informational and not legal purposes. Since every case is different and courts have varying opinions, you need to consult with your attorney before making decisions. The following information is relatively new and is worth considering by anyone looking at options. Social Marketing for Tourism by catherine Heeg

How to Create Better Social Ads Do you get as many video views as you think you deserve? Are you earning as many clicks to your Web site as you would like? If you have answered no to the above – Have you thought about giving up on social ads because you do not think they work? Well, do not give up. A couple of simple adjustments to your social ad campaigns can make a world of difference. Here are some quick tests and tweaks that will increase the success of your ads. How to Get Your Videos and Visuals Right Imagine seeing an ad from your favorite destination, but not clicking on it because the video does not interest you. What if this happens for your clients with your ads? Here is an easy way to test what works with your unique audiences as you plan the marketing for your next tour. 1. Ensure you have a collection of videos you would like to test. Try creating a library ith a variety of video styles, lengths and visuals. 2. Select an ad from an existing campaign, then click ‘More’ to choose “A/B” in your next ad set up and then select “Video” or “Image” to test your visuals (slide 3 – https://bit.ly/34PKj62). 3. When setting up your split test, you can include four unique videos or visuals (slide 4 – https://bit.ly/34PKj62). When planning your split test, consider what ad audience (http://bit.ly/2nxjeyN) you will focus on and how aligned it is with the creative assets you have selected for your split test. Advanced ad audience targets here: https://bit.ly/2wXRb4f

4. Remember to preview each version of your ad for lay-out and design (slide 6 – https://bit.ly/34PKj62). For example, maybe you have a tour that will focus on culture, history and museums. You will want to create an audience of people who love museums, classical music and art. (Yes, you can target all of these interests when building an ad audience – http://bit.ly/2nxjeyN). You will then want to show them a relevant video about a tour that speaks to these interests. When you split test you have the opportunity to upload two different videos and test which one resonates best with your audience. You will be able to see which video gets more views. This will help you decide which ad to continue running and which one to tweak for better results. Secret: You will want to avoid showing them a video featuring lifestyle interests that do not align with their interests. For example, you would not want to show this audience a video showcasing active outdoor adventures, kayaking or mountain climbing. The bottom line is that you will maximize your ad budget by showing the right visuals/videos to the right people so as to achieve your ad goal. So many advertisers

assume that “one size fits all” and miss the opportunity to customize ad offerings and maximize their budget. In the ever-changing social ad landscape you will find that new bells and whistles are added frequently. These new options help savvy advertisers create the right ads for each of your tours so that you reach your advertising goals more quickly. What this really means is more “butts in seats.” What will you split test in your next ad q campaign?
