Andrew Levy
Andrew Levy is the Edna Cooper Chair of English at Butler University, where he has taught Creative Writing and US Literature and Culture since 1992. He is the author or editor of six books, including The First Emancipator, The Brain Wider Than The Sky, and Huck Finn’s America His essays have appeared in the American Scholar, Missouri Review, and Best American Essays. He has appeared frequently on television, radio, and podcasting programming, including C-Span and National Public Radio, and his work has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, Sports Illustrated, Time, and many other major media venues. Levy has served in a variety of administrative roles on campus, including English Department Chair and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing. His degrees include a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Mathematics and English from Brown, a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Johns Hopkins, and a PhD in Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Indianapolis with his spouse, Siobhan McEvoy-Levy, who is a professor in the Political Science department at Butler, and his son, Aedan, who is currently a Butler junior majoring in Psychology.
