A greater portion of society believes a good, fresh start is crucial to first impressions. It is immensely difficult to experience a new year without a fresh start. When you choose to start over, you aren't taken for all the cons you've performed. Instead, you are known for the person you are trying to become, or the person you have displayed in your first impression. This is important, for it changes the opinion someone once had about you. In the television show, 'Liv and Maddie' their older brother is forced to move schools. With this setback, Joey is forced to start over; however, it is to his advantage, for he gets to recreate himself. On the first day of school, Joey was able to reconstruct himself as a sophisticated, smart gentleman,

Real College or Not

Community college often gets a bad reputation of not being considered a real college. Kristin O'Keefe writes a persuasive article about Community college being just as important as a "real college".

When making the decision to go to college you may ask yourself whether you want to go to a community college or a University. Then you may ask yourself if you want to go to a real college or not. Community college is very much considered a real college. They offer the same type of degrees that are offered at a 4 year college. For example a student that would like to pursue a career in nursing can go to a community college and graduate with a nursing degree. They can work in the same place and have the same job as a nurse that

When I was in middle school, I ran track–specifically, the 1500 meter event. Every meet, I got last place. But I still received a ribbon–the same size, albeit not the color blue–of the first–place winner. As a kid who didn't really care about sports, I was never too upset over getting last–after all, someone had to. But I was always baffled by the fact that despite putting in minimal effort, I was still earning ribbons. To me, participating isn't an achievement, and nobody deserves a trophy for it–I assumed people participated for the enjoyment. I ran track, not for the ribbons, but because I loved running. However, as I've gotten older, I've come to understand that everyone does not hold the same philosophies as I. Over the past four...show more content...

But if the person watching said YouTube clip finds genuine joy and laughter from the video, is it meaningless or meaningful? Although life is about genuine achievement, it's also about genuine enjoyment. Happiness and joy are also vital parts of a well–lived life, even if nothing is actually achieved from those activities of joy. I never achieved much in track, my times stayed consistent, and I never got a different colored ribbon or award. But I enjoyed the experience all the same. Just as life is about the journey, life is also about the twists and turns, the pit stops, the U–turns, the layovers, the delays, and all the "wasted" time. As Bertrand Russell once said, "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time," –and the time enjoyed running track is time spent feeling

SPE 101 Free College Tuition

General Purpose: To Persuade

Specific Purpose: Persuade audience that American college tuition should be free America providing free college tuition would allow our country to reach new heights and cross new barriers. Tuition should be free for all students because our nation could become more successful, eliminate social class distinctions, cause a great economic boom, and also it works great for other countries so why not us?

Intro

Attention Getter: Of the 20 surveys that were completed 17 of us (or 85%) said that us students are actually worried about paying off student loans once our schooling is completed.

Central Idea: America providing free college tuition would allow our country to reach new heights and cross new barriers. Tuition should be free for all students because our nation could become more successful, eliminate class distinctions, cause a great economic boom, and also it works great for other countries so why not us?

Credibility: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics only about 69.2% of 2015high school graduates enrolled into college last fall. Imagine how much higher that percentage would be if college tuition was free.

The following are just four of the many reasons/advantages for having free tuition costs for a college education across our nation.

Reason #1: First reason being that free tuition could allow our country to be more successful from more kids getting a college education. Some graduates don't want to go to college because they already make enough money at their current job or they're not sure what they want to do with their lives just yet. However, there are several graduates who want to go to college but simply can't afford it. This is not only detrimental to their future, but to our country's future as well. There could be brilliant minds out there who could potentially change humanity, but we would never know if we can't even provide these minds with a legit education. If college was free, these brilliant minds could go and receive an education at their own will without any barriers restricting them, bringing prosperity to themselves and to our country.

Reason #2: Second reason being that we Get more content

Once highschool ends, you will think you are already done with school, and you can finally be free, and you are kind of right. However, your college education should not stop at high school, as high school only teaches you a few things. Going to college will teach things outside of just learning some basic math and writing formats. College will prepare you for life as well. By going to college, you will earn more, be more employable due to your accumulation of knowledge, and you will live a healthier life. College is not for everyone, but if you prefer a secure future then it is suggested to go to college. By pursuing business without a college degree, you could lose all your money and everything you have worked for at any moment if you are not cautious. With a college degree, you can earn a decent salary with a secure job. College graduates are more likely to be employed for a job position than an individual who only has a highschool degree. For example in the article,"Middle Schoolers, Why College?" it states,"Today most good jobs require more than a highschool diploma. They want people who know how to think and solve problems." Ahigh school diploma is almost meaningless now, high school may have not prepared you for college, so why would you think it would prepare you for anything beyond that? Also, by attending college you acquire more knowledge and skills in many other fields which makes you more ideal for a job. In addition, a website had stated,"The unemployment rate for people with a college degree was 2.5%, for the ones who only had a highschool diploma was 7.7%." As you can tell, people with only a highschool diploma are more likely to be unemployed than a college student. A college degree can almost assure you on never being unemployed, as people do want someone who knows what their doing and by going to college they'll know you have been educated above high school level. To sum everything up, if you have a college degree you have a greater possibility in being hired for a job than someone who only has a highschool degree. However, several jobs do need a college degree in order to apply for them. Most people might think college is a cause of unhappiness and depression but its the contrary. In

Dear Editor, Teens are everywhere. Although some people might want to, you can't just skip over the teenage years straight into your twenties. The teenage years can be trying ones, where self–esteem takes a big blow to the gut. I think that self–esteem can be boosted during the teenage years in several ways. There are several ways to boost your self–esteem. One thing is to try new things, as you learn new skills it makes you feel good about yourself. This could be something like joining a club, or a sports team. Another thing you could do is to encourage yourself, maybe try finding three good things about yourself every day. Yet another step to good self–esteem is finding friends that encourage you. Finally don't expect that you

Deciding on a college is a stressful time in any student's life. All students deal with stress about their future after high school, regardless of whether they plan for college or not. Some may think that students are making the decision into something more difficult than it has to be; however, this is an incredibly important time in any student's life. It entails a lot of thought. Like putting on makeup, deciding on a school requires effort and creativity, but both can show who a person is. Choosing a school requires hard work and preparation, creativity for students to express themselves, and freedom to decide exactly what they want. To qualify for certain colleges, students must be focused throughouthigh school. Some schools can be selective on who they accept while others have high acceptance rates; some schools require classes that others do not. Students need to put in the effort and dedication to qualify for the schools they believe would be the best fit. For these students, grades are not something they can only put partial effort into. To maintain their grades, students keep track of their assignments and work hard throughout all of high school. Students get the option to be creative while choosing their schools because whatever school is chosen will be used to express themselves. After choosing a school, the student will strongly align themselves with that school. Schools offer merchandise because when students like a school they want to represent it; thus proves that many people use schools' names or logos as a means to express themselves. However, for prospective students finding a school to align with can be stressful. They have to know exactly what traits they desire. One thing people may consider: community college or university. Some go to community college because they are unsure of their major; some go to trade schools because they only want to learn skills for a certain job; some go straight to a four–year university; some students do not go to any college. A person's choice in their education depends on their personal preferences: how much work they are willing to put in, who they want to align with, and freedom to choose what they want to do. Similarly, makeup requires a lot of Get more content

I write to you with a heavy heart but with a hopeful mind. The Finnish government has made a decision to cut down from student funds and from our overall education system, and as a student this automatically concerns me and affects my life. My purpose for this letter is to organise a student demonstration and inform people how this cut down will affect our future as a country. Finland is known globally for itseducation system and how well it functions, so it does seem absurd that this is the region that our government is going to cut back. While at family events, or social gatherings does it seem like the first 3 questions you are asked to stay the same for everyone you talk to. I don 't know what i want to eat for dinner tonight, let alone what I wanna do for the rest of my life. Almost as if the only thing people care about anymore is college, and what major you pick. It seems to be common knowledge today that college is the only correct answer anymore. Now it all comes together, when you apply to The Ohio State University your first year, with a 4.5 GPA and a 29 on your ACT it 's nearly impossible to get in, but then somehow your second year if you have at least a 2.0 GPA and a 22 on your ACT you can get in with no problem (The Ohio State University, 2017). This is a perfect example of how so many students feel they have to go to college when in reality they don 't, but feel pressured into it from everyone around them. Meanwhile they waste a whole year at college when they could have started working with a trade and making money rather than being in debt. Many of these students are work–bound but not college–bound. Your junior year, when all of the adults are asking the same question, "What college are you going to?" Fast forward to your senior year and college applications are due. It seems as if all that is expected of highschoolers is to go to college. Four, or more, years of torcherous education that you are "supposed" to want. However, college is more that that. Along with monetary benefits such as a superior job and lower unemployment rates, college is an opportunity to learn more about the world and yourself. College is a profitable choice because even though it might not seem like it in the beginning, college helps with securing a better job. According to How College Shapes Lives: Understanding the Issues, from https://trends.collegeboard.org/ , the text states that, "In 2011, median earnings for 35– to 44–year–olds working full time who's highest degree was a bachelor's degree were $62,700, compared to $34,900 for high schools graduates (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011; calculations by the authors)." It is disclosed that these workers have a gap of $27,800 in their annual pay, just because of their education level. All of that money can be used to pay off loans, debts, pay for a house, car, and even be used to your freewill, like traveling or treats. Additionally, in The (Non–Monetary) Values of a College Degree, Elia Powers writes, "More than 66 percent of full–time employers with at least a bachelor's degree have access to pension plans, while only 53 percent of high school

I am writing this letter to let you know how you're doing today. This is the first writing you have done in years and your very first assignment in college. Unlike most college students, I began my undergraduate career at the age of 16. With my youth came some naivete. The chance to offer advice to myself as an incoming freshman is an opportunity I would take in a heartbeat. I would dispense advice in three areas: academics, social life, and personal conduct.

In the past you have been a fairly strong student, but there are some pointers that you may want to heed. Although the laptop you were gifted as a graduation present may be a powerful tool, you probably should not take it to class. With your laptop's capacity to enrich your educational experience comes an equal if not greater capacity to distract you from class. Stick to a pencil and notebook as much as you can. Traditional note taking will improve both your memory and your GPA.

On a similar note, try not to overcomplicate school work. There is no need to reinvent the wheel with every assignment. Often, your old tried and true methods will work out the best. You may catch yourself searching for novel ways to complete course work. You will find this is nothing more than an advanced form of procrastination. Starting assignments as soon as they are assigned will help quell this problem. I hope this helps you spend fewer late nights fretting.

On the subject of late nights, a few more would not kill you. I am all too familiar with the ongoing battle in you between perfectionism and your love of sleep. That stated, your time will be a precious resource in the coming years. A

While many high school seniors are faced with the tough question of "where should I go to college," what if the real question is "should I even be going to college?" One should carefully consider their options before making a decision for life after high school. Those who are not ready for college or feel that college is not necessary for their career choice should consider not attending college and begin their career. For many high school graduates, college proves to be the next step in ensuring a successful future, yet for others, college is nonessential to the career they plan to pursue and should not be required.
