Global Warming is Man Made

There has been an ongoing debate about whether global warming is man–made, natural or if it even exists at all. The answer to that debate is that global warming is man–made and a direct result of pollution.

Carbon Dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide make up the biggest part of the cause of global warming, which form greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are trapped in the earth's atmosphere and cause the earth to warm up. This temperature change has an effect on the earth's ice, glaciers, oceans and ecosystems.

Normally greenhouse gases help maintain global temperatures at a level that is comfortable for humans and animals. By adding more of these gases to the atmosphere the natural process is interrupted and create enhanced global warming. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas releases carbon dioxide when burned. Carbon dioxide is the gas responsible for the most warming in the atmosphere. Methane gas is the second most important gas that makes up the greenhouse gases. Methane is produced from the processing of oil, landfills and released from the digestive systems of livestock. With the populations increased red meat intake, there is more demand for livestock which creates an increased output of methane.

Nitrous oxide is another part of the greenhouse gases that occurs naturally in the atmosphere. The sources of this gas are from fertilizers, gases used for cooling refrigerators, industrial processes and motor vehicles which release

Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren't any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and...show more content...

Every time the temperature keeps rising, the more carbon dioxide will be released. When this process gets going, it is very hard to keep in control. Methane is another greenhouse gas. Methane is a greenhouse gas whose molecules absorb heat trying to escape to space. Natural sources include wetlands, swamps and marshes, termites, and oceans. (Methane) Methane gases are released into the atmosphere. Atmospheric methane has doubled since the Industrial Revolution and has "contributed 20 percent to the enhancement of the greenhouse effect, second only to carbon dioxide". (Methane) A major effect of global warming is there will be higher temperatures and it will affect how the water cycle works. Places on the earth will receive more rain than others. There will be a great amount of evaporation going on from the rivers, lakes and oceans due to a increase in the temperature. This could be a good thing for some people needing rain and a bad thing for other people who get to much rain. While the temperature is on the rise there will be greater amount of rains all over. In return with all of the rains this could help farmers. It would extend the growing season for crops. This would greatly help out the farmers because they would be making more money. While this is the positive side of the rain, this could also hurt the farmers. There are some crops that out there that will die with to much rain. There

Is Climate Change Natural or Man–made? Introduction

The planet has been experiencing considerable climate change for the last several decades. There have been many explanations toward the main causes of the increased warming of the planet. On one hand are the environmentalists who believe that the major cause of this increased warming of the planet is the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere induced by human activities. On the other hand, the scientists believe that there are natural causes of global climate change. While the supporters of the man–made theory of global climate change reason that the major greenhouse gas causing global warming is carbon dioxide, the advocates of natural causes...show more content... In addition, human activities like deforestation may increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is because forests help in carbon sequestration, which reduces the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. It follows then that clearing such tress will increase the amount of carbon dioxide since carbon sequestration will not occur (3). The man–made theory of climate change also explains that when these harmful gasses reach the atmosphere, they form a blanket, which traps heat in the atmosphere. This trapping of in the atmosphere is the phenomenon that causes the planet to get warmer, hence the term global warming (Sharma, 4).

Current data reveals that the concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the earth's atmosphere is approximately 387 parts per million, which is roughly a 31% increase in the period 1750 to 2009. Consequently, it is evident that such increases in temperatures have caused a warmer planet (7). It is also evident that it is impossible to reverse the developments of industrial revolution. This means that as the advancements of industrial revolution continue and as energy demands increases, it is possible that this trend of climate change will continue for decades to come (McAloon, 8). The consent of the climate research community is that it most likely already affects climate noticeably and will compel significant

Global Warming: Natural or Man–made

There has been researches that show that all the efforts to relieve global warming was useless. What this means is that global warming, which we considered it as a manmade disaster, might just be a part of the Earth's fluctuating cycles.

Before we move on to the clashes regarding global warming, I want to clarify the definitions of the terms that I will be discussing. Referring to NASA, global warming is the increase in Earth 's average surface temperature due to rising levels of greenhouse gases. Climate change is a long–term change in the Earth 's climate, or of a region on Earth. Greenhouse effect is a phenomenon in which the atmosphere of a planet traps radiation emitted by its sun, caused by gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but retain heat radiated back from the planet 's surface. Greenhouse gases are any of various gaseous compounds (such as carbon dioxide) that absorb infrared radiation, trap heat in the atmosphere, and contribute to the greenhouse effect (The Free Dictionary). Many of the people still believe that what we have done to the Earth has caused global warming, and that we should be responsible for our actions. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, Coal–burning power plants are the largest U.S. source of carbon dioxide pollution, producing 2.5 billion tons every year. Automobiles, the second largest source, create nearly 1.5 billion tons of

Is Global Climate Man–made? One of the largest global conflicts of modern day society is the issue of global climate change. Throughout the years, the most notable modern research has been the recognition that humans activities are most likely accelerating the process of global climate change. Scientists have provided solid evidence of global climate change by humans in multiple studies, but others believe that climate change is caused solely by nature and the naturalness of the Earth's cycle. Whether such evidences are providing valid proof to our society has become a serious matter for public debate. According to National Aeronautics and Space Administration, also known as NASA, over 97% of climate scientists agree that global warming is mostly likely caused by human activities. In our society today, there is a lot of misconception of the definition of weather and climate. As these two terms are often associated with each other, they are not the same. Mark Twain famously summed up the definition: "Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get". Climate is the behavior of the environment throughout a long period of time, usually a decade, whereas weather refers to the actual temperature of the atmosphere at a particular period of time. "Climate change", however, is "any systematic change in the long–term statistics of climate elements (such as temperature, pressure, or winds) sustained over several

Is climate change naturally or man–made?

First of all, for anyone that does not know what climate change is, it is a change in the world's climate. A lot of people think weather and climate is the same thing but it is not. The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time. Climate is what the conditions are over relatively long periods of time. My belief of the issue is that climate change is man–made.

The effects of climate change depend upon how much change there is, how fast it occurs, and how easily the world can adapt to the new conditions. If the change is to rapid then that will leave some species of animals or plants to be extinct because they don't have enough time to move or adapt. Other examples such as "Coral reefs: slightly warmer tropical water may kill the algae which reef animals use for food".(Homeworktips) Increase in temperature in the climate is making a lot of the ice cap and icebergs melt in the north. Which is making the ocean rise more. "Mangrove swamps: Mangrove swamps are important breeding grounds for many animals that live in water. Increased ocean flooding may damage these areas by changing the supply of nutrients and the amount of salt."(Homeworktips)

What can we do about the climate change to prevent or reduce the effects? "Three basic strategies are available, abatement, adaptation, and geo–engineering."(Homeworktips) Abatement is where we slow or stop the affect by making things more energy efficient. Burning less coal, oil and natural gases. Adaptation is where we adapt or change to our surroundings. Protecting the coast by putting up barriers or dykes. Geo–engineering is where we engineer or change the earth. For example, reducing the amount of sunlight that hits the earth by putting small particles in the high atmosphere to reflect more sunlight back into the earth.

Some causes of global warming are pollution, solar activity, CO2 emission, SUV use, Radiation from earth's core, and many others. "Sport utility vehicles (SUVs) contribute significantly to pollution and global warming, according to the following view–point from the Sierra Club. Because the emit more carbon dioxide than do cars, SUVs contribute more to the greenhouse effect, which raises the temperature of the Earth. Although the technology exists to improve SUVs, the organization argues, Congress has bowed to pressure from automobile manufactures and refused to require SUVs to be safer, cleaner, and more fuel–efficient. The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest environmental advocacy groups in The United States." (Bily 62) SUVs are a huge contributor to pollution and global warming, the waste so much gas and money. "When it comes to wasting energy, SUVs are unrivaled. Built with outraged, gas–guzzling technology, many SUVs get just 13 miles per gallon. And the higher gas prices are, the more money they waste." (Bily 63) If you don't think SUVs contribute obviously you're wrong, with the facts stated obviously SUVs have a big contribution because the use a high amount of gas and emit a lot of carbon dioxide. Solar activity is another factor that contributes to global warming. "Not so surprisingly, its the sun. Global Warming Can't Be Man–Made

Should America believe that global warming is man–made? There is not any definitive evidence proving this. As a matter of fact, the founding father of the man–made global warming ethos Claude Allegre renounced his position by admitting, "the cause of this climate change is unknown". In essence, there is so little evidence that it is man–made, the founding father of the man–made global warming theory disavowed his own theory. Global warming is a phenomenon with an ambiguous origin that Americans shouldn 't be concerned about until there 's evidence proving that global warming is man–made. We should know more before our country spends 22 billion dollars of taxpayers money on it.

Many climate activists believe that global warming is indeed a man–made phenomenon. There are many reasons why they have derived this notion and some are very logical. Two of them are, 1) human activity has increased co2 concentrations by 40Z% ( U.S National Academy of Science and Royal Society ), and 2) since 1880, the global average surface temperature has risen by 0.8В°C ( 1.4В°F ) ( NASA ). The two reasons stated in the latter paragraph are geologically sound but contestable, and here 's why. It 's feasible, that since co2 emission happens naturally, human activity would increase co2 concentrations. But human activity increasing the co2 level in the earth 's atmosphere by 40% is a bit of a stretch to think it 's a sole factor especially

Climate change is one of the biggest concerns of all nations across the globe. Climate shift refers to changes in patterns of weather which can be indicated through global warming, natural disasters and rises in sea level. There is a group of people, climate change skeptics, who argue that climate change is not the result of human activity, meaning that it is naturally occurring. According to World Meteorological Organization, natural factors refer to internal factors, which are the interactions between the atmosphere and ocean, and external factors, such as solar energy variations and volcanic eruption (United Nation Evironment Programme – World Meteorological Organization, 2006). However, most scientists claim that people also involve in...show more content...

Since the beginning of the industrial revolution in recent centuries, the Earth's temperature increases steadily due to the high concentration of carbon dioxide. The use of energies for transportation, manufacturing, and electricity generation involve in the burning of fossil fuel. These activities produce carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and warm up the Earth. As stated by World Meteorological Organization, "The use of fossil fuel currently accounts for 80 to 85% of the carbon dioxide being added to the atmosphere" (United Nation Evironment Programme – World Meteorological Organization, 2006). In fact, the amount of man–made carbon emission to the atmosphere continues to grow everyday although people acknowledge the danger of the extreme carbon emission. World Meteorological Organization said that the carbon emission rose significantly from just less than 1 billion tons in 1860 to more than 20 billion tons in 1990 (United Nation Evironment Programme – World Meteorological Organization, 2006). As a result, the Earth's temperature continues to increase over time. Steffen clearly stated "The global average air temperature has risen by about 0.85В°C since the beginning of the 20th century, and continues to rise. The period 2001–2010 was the hottest decade on record" (Steffen, 2013).

Humans’ Contribution to Climate Change Essay

Is global warming a real threat to the world or just a myth? Global warming is in fact real and is both seen and felt by humans. Yet, it is complicated finding a solution for it because of all the factors that are at play and the opposition of people who do not believe it is a real issue. Many countries rely on fossil fuels to both produce goods and generate power for homes, and it would cost a vast number of money to change to different alternatives. As a result human activity would have to decrease to a significant ratio and environmental policies implemented to prevent the climate from increasing more than it already is. Before we go further into global warming and its impact, it is important to point out that there have been other events in the world that have made governments and countries aware that the actions that they make can create a big difference. For example, in the 1800's, "Britain's Parliament enacted the Corn Laws", (Balaam, Dillman p. 35). It was a system of tariffs that restricted the import of food from other countries' into Britain. Britain wanted to depend on itself and protect its gains, yet in 1845 the Irish Potato famine occurred and gave Britain no other option than to repeal its tariffs and import food to feed their people. The Corn Laws were later repealed and it marked the interaction of free trade and every country in the world benefited from the outcome. Considering, "The transition was not smooth, however, and took a long time– important

Our modern car burning gasoline is responsible for about 33% of the emission in the U.S. With our population growing at a rapid rate, the demand for more cars and consumer goods means that we are increasing the use of fossil fuels for transportation and manufacturing. A recent poll of twenty people, shows that 86% of the people think that it is a serious problem, 4% think it is not an issue, but could not give a valid answer, 10% are undecided. Some people that don't believe in global warming say that there's no scientific proof that the earth's temperature is rising. Those who thought it is a major issue all had ideas on to if not stop global warming at least slow down the process. Natural gas is an extremely important source of energy for reducing pollution and maintaining a clean and healthy environment. As the cleanest of the fossil fuels, natural gas can be used in many ways to help reduce the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. Burning natural gas in the place of other fossil fuels emits fewer harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, and an increased reliance on natural gas can potentially reduce the emission of many of these most harmful pollutants. The use of natural gas to power both industrial boilers and processes and the generation of electricity can significantly improve the emissions. Hybrid cars have been out on the market for a couple of years now. They use a small gasoline engine and high powered electric motor to drive the car.

Is Global Climate Change Manmade?

To get an understanding, Global warming is when the earth's temperatures rise more than average causing drastic weather and climate change. It all began during the industrial era in the early 1800s where fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas became the primary source of energy. Since then many people had soon discovered that fossil fuels have improved their way of life, therefore the use and demand for fuel has been on the rise. In the United States it 's self currently provides more than 85 percent of all the energy consumption – that's nearly two–thirds of our electricity (Ronnie D. Lankford)! Even though many people argue that these fossil fuels have improved our standards of life, such as providing us with electricity that light up our homes, or fuel that gets our cars running, taking us from point A to B. Yes, these are great luxuries to have but these fossil fuels add carbon dioxide to the Earth 's atmosphere, which is harmful to the environment as well as the well being on this earth (Ronnie D. Lankford). This can then be seen as a problem made by human activity. The questions that are to be explored are; How isglobal warming caused and the effects? How it can be prevented or stabilized?

GHGs, also known as greenhouse gases – this is what makes up the atmosphere which consists of gases like carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, nitrous oxide, aerosols and ozone. Thought when these gasses are in large amounts, they are known to

In today's society it seems humanity is always being blamed for the tragedies that seem to go along with this catastrophe. However, research has proven that humans are not the sole cause of global warming. In fact, some scientists say that the natural causes of global warming far outweigh the human causes. What exactly does global warming effect? The effects of global warming are spread across the entire world and can be broken down into three main areas, the first of which is heat waves. Heat waves are defined as periods of time lasting more than three days at which the average temperature exceeds 90 degrees...show more content...

(47–48) This warming of the arctic also affects humans around the world not just the indigenous people and animals. David Rind says "these increases in temperature around the arctic will most certainly impact our weather here in the United States if we do not have those seemingly unneeded outbreaks of arctic cold then we will not receive as much winter precipitation which will make it hard for states like Kansas to produce their winter goods". (qtd in Johansen 286)

The final area that scientists break down the effects of global warming is wild storms. Global warming is said to increase the amount of rain produced during thunderstorms which may in turn cause floods. According to Robert Britt "as the climate warms up more water will fall in the form of rain rather than snow which will cause the reservoirs to fill faster, this in turn will result in the water runoff all into spring rather than being able to bring it out throughout the summer". In addition to heavier rainfall, hurricanes and tropical storms are greatly affected by small increases in the global temperature of the oceans. For example according to Dr. Kerry Emanuel "a 0.5 degree Celsius increase in the oceans temperature can cause the power of hurricanes in that year to at least double". With such extreme effects of global warming why is the human

Thesis Statement : Global Warming

Is global climate change man–made? Global temperature has been changing for the past couple of decades. This leaves researchers to believe that mankind is to blame for this abrupt change. Life on earth depends upon the average climate that has been around for thousands of years. Without this favorable climate, life on earth will be unsustainable. Those who argue that climate change is not affected by humans state that the emissions humans put into the atmosphere are too small to have an effect on the climate. Either way climate on earth is changing at a concerning rate and is a major issue. Climate change has been created by many different factors. Including methane emissions from animals, like livestock. Methane being released into the atmosphere causes a change in the earth's climate. A change in the earth's solar activity has also contributed to global temperature change. These changes are called sunspots and they change the earth's solar radiation levels. This causes short term warming cycles on the planet. Permafrost is frozen ground that is mainly in the northern hemisphere. It releases carbon and methane into the atmosphere when it melts. This accelerates global warming by adding to the concentration of carbon in the atmosphere. Water vapor holds in heat in the atmosphere due to the greenhouse effect. As temperatures rise all of these factors also increase in turn.

The Natural And Natural Causes Of Global Warming

Introduction

What is global warming? Global warming is the average temperature of Earth has increases since 1950 until now the temperature continuing increasing. Global warming can also refers to climate change that causes an increase in the average of temperature. However global warming are causes by natural events and human that are believed to be contribute to increase in average temperatures.

Causes of Global Warming

Global warming is a serious issue and is not a single issue but a number of environmental issues. Global warming is a rise in the surface temperature of the earth that has changed various life forms on the earth. The issues that cause global warming are divided into two categories include "natural" and "human influences" of global warming.

Natural Causes of Global Warming

The climate has continuously changing for centuries. The global warming happens because the natural rotation of the sun that changes the intensity of sunlight and moving closer to the earth. Another cause of global warming is greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide it trap the solar heats rays and prevent it from escaping from the surface of the earth. This has cause the temperature of the earth increase. Volcanic eruptions are another issue that causes global warming. For instance, a single volcanic eruption will release amount ofcarbon dioxide and ash to the atmosphere. Once carbon dioxide increase, the temperature of earth increase and greenhouse trap the solar radiations in the earth. Finally, methane is another issue that causes global warming. Methane is also a greenhouse gas. Methane is more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere that carbon dioxide by 20 times. Usually methane gas can release from many areas. For instance, it can be from cattle, landfill, natural gas, petroleum systems, coal mining, mobile explosion, or industrial waste process.

Human Influences on Global Warming

Human influence has been a very serious issue now because human do not take care the earth. Human that cause global warming are more than natural causes global warming. The earth has been changing for many years until now it is still changing because of modern lifestyle of human. Human activities

Climate change is something everyone in the world should work to make bigger priority. Human beings do not realize that living the way they want, instead of the way they should, is actually damaging the planet and its climate. The main thing being changed by the people that inhabit the earth is the earth's atmosphere. Our earth is comparable to that of a giant greenhouse, in which the earth's atmosphere is comparable to that of the glass surroundings of an actual greenhouse. Greenhouse Gases are what trap the suns heat along the surface of the earth to keep us warm at night. "Ninety–seven percent of climate scientists agree that humans have changed the earth's atmosphere in dramatic ways over the past two centuries, resulting in global warming". (What is the Greenhouse Effect?) Global warming is a real problem, and it has real consequences. The slow increase in the earth's temperature is called global warming. It is my opinion that this is because of the way people all over the earth go about their daily living. Global warming and climate change can be eliminated by upgrading building infrastructures over a period of time. Stopping the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas will also have a huge impact on reducing global warming and climate change. Deforestation is also aiding in the destruction of our planet by destroying millions of acres of land a year, and leaving the earth gasping for more air. Global warming has been a hot topic for generations. Questions like "Is it natural or man–made?", "What is causing it?", or "How can we reduce it?", have stumped scientists and engineers. Most people think that reducing global warming means having to buy expensive "green" contraptions or driving electric cars, that can be dangerous, due to their size, and can take hours to charge. Those would be great things to do to reduce our impact on global climate change, but unfortunately, in our current economic state, most people don't have that kind of money. Fortunately, there are effective and cost efficient ways to reduce global warming and live a cleaner, greener and healthier life. There are many theories as to why global warming is...show more content...

If too many greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere, too much heat will become trapped and the Earth's temperature will rise. Since the use of the beforementioned have become more frequent, the parts per million (ppm) of atmospheric greenhouse gases have risen, too. The negative effects of this rise is frightening, and may start effecting the planet very soon. When the planet warms, glaciers, and polar ice caps melt causing a rise in sea level. The melting of glaciers also removes many people of their clean water because 80% of all the people on Earth depend on the run–off from glaciers. The rise in sea level floods coast lines, destroying homes and buildings along the coast, and filling streets with water. This will force humans to have more densely populated cities that may become so overpopulated that diseases may start to spread quickly. With the water shortage and the extreme heat, deaths by dehydration and disease will become more common. If people don't start to take action to reduce global warming, that could soon become the world we live in. Thankfully though, this will only happen if we continue consuming and polluting as much as we do today. You may have heard of "Energy Star" products or homes. The homes are certified to use 15 to 30% less energy than those that are not Energy Star certified. Energy Star certified products can also help reduce your harm on the environment.

Man made global warming has been a topic of uncontrollable controversy for many decades now. Global warming is the increase in the average global surface temperature in the Earth's atmosphere. There are many theories as to why there has been such a drastic change in the Earth's atmosphere throughout the years. These theories have ignited many debates amongst scientists. According to multiple scientists, humans are the ones responsible for the alarming change in the Earth's atmospheric temperature. Just as floods would get rid of animals, they too will get rid of plants. Plants are help produce Oxygen and allow us to live in this planet. Without plants, a limited amount of Oxygen will be produced, therefore causing the human race to die out. Records of the Earth's temperatures show that each decade has become progressively hotter. Data was found that shows that hot records have been rising since the 1970s. On january 15, 2012 the National Climate Data Center (NCDC) regarded 2012 as one of the top ten hottest years on record. With the increasing rate ofCarbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere the years that follow will only continue to get progressively hotter. Another thing that high levels of Carbon dioxide and Greenhouse gasses can cause is pollution of the air we breath. Air pollution is very harmful to all living organisms. There are many things that can cause Carbon dioxide levels to increase drastically, therefore polluting our air. What most of those things have in common is that they are produced by humans: man made activities. The increase of the Earth's population is one of those reasons. During the 1970s the Earth's population was only about 3 billion compared to the staggering number of today's society which is an astonishing 6 billion and rising. Also, the constant burning of fossil fuels emits a large amount of Carbon dioxide into our planets atmosphere. Roughly 41% of CO2 emissions are produced by the continuous burning of fossil

Again the non believers would say this was just a natural occurrence. Believer would say global warming had a part in the weather patterns which has changed and caused this heat wave.

Doubters of global warming just pointed out what they saw was just plain older Mother Nature doing her thing and the believers of global warming would say this was caused by man. Usually these unusual weather happenings tell us there are some climate changes happening already. For the past several years skeptics and believers alike have debated back and forth about the causes of global warming. The believers say that if the man–made causes are left untouched and steadily get worse these causes may not be able to be reversed. A few examples of these are: the rainforest reductions, depletion of the ozone, and the use of fossil fuels. Doubters claim that the warming of the earth is just a natural process and that the overall effect man has on nature is vastly overrated. The
