Dear Friends,

We are excited to present our best to the marketplace again. The success of our cattle in their new homes over the years has been extremely rewarding. We are grateful for the support from our friends and customers.

Many have asked us when we will start having our sales again. We’ve been absent from this annual/ semi-annual routine for a while. The truth is, I’ve just not had it in me to pull it all together. The herd’s management suffered for a time because I just wasn’t and couldn’t get it all done. Even with the help of family, friends, neighbors, and talented young people that all helped part-time, it was hard for me to give the proper instruction.

What’s changed? Praise the Lord, I feel a whole lot better. I am getting along fine without treatments and retired from Missouri State University just a few months ago. What has made the most difference, though, is the second and third generations of this operation are involved daily in the management. Carla’s family farm in Lebanon has become available, allowing us to move the spring-calving herd to Lebanon, about 90 miles up I-44 from Aurora. Only God’s intervention paved the way for all three kids to call Lebanon home.

Jamie and Kevin Johansen, with daughters Harper James, 9, and Ivee Mae, 3, have built a home on the family ranch. Kevin works full-time on the Lebanon ranch while also serving as the Founder and CEO of AgButler. His influence is strongly felt in the physical progress this herd is making. Visit with him anytime. You’ll be impressed.

Joanna and Neal Wilkinson both graduated from seminary, and Neal pastors the White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church south of Lebanon, where Carla grew up and which actually borders part of the ranch. Neal and Jo have a daughter Nora Ellis, 3, and a son Carson Dale, 8 months.

Jonathan is an engineer at the Durham Company in Lebanon and has recently purchased his Davis grandparent’s home. He’s very involved with the farm and stays ahead of fixing the equipment his dad tears up.

Jamie and Joanna are in their 8th year as business partners in marketing/communications, Honey Creek Media, named after the creek they played in growing up. The girls purchased and completely remodeled a historic building in Downtown Lebanon they call The Hive by Honey Creek. It houses their offices and serves as an event venue for their community. It’s an incredible place!

Forgive the in-depth dissertation of an old man’s rambles. Carla and I have dedicated our lives to education, so we take pride that all three of our kids and their two spouses have earned their graduate degrees. Why explain this long story? Because of our family’s involvement, things at the J.D. Bellis Family Herefords are really hopping. We’re back to getting most of our calves sired AI, collecting all the data possible on each calf crop, and have almost completed the DNA collection process on all the cowherd and progeny. Nearly all cattle in this sale are DNA’d with genetically enhanced EPDs. It is indeed a financial investment, but we believe in striving for pedigree integrity and Genetically Enhanced EPDs.

In this sale, we are featuring the top end of our fall 2021 and spring 2022 bull crops. They are special and have the potential to make a strong impact on the future direction of our breed. We are also selling almost all females born in 2016 through 2020. We are most proud of the udder quality and soundness in the female group. We are confident they are of the quality to influence the herds of their purchasers.
