Practical Bull Development: At Candy Meadow we pride ourselves in producing professional bulls. Among other things this has to do with how the bulls are developed. We feed a high roughage ration in huge runs that insure the longevity, structural soundness, and fertility of our bulls.
Some of our seedstock development strategies:
1. We run our seedstock under the same conditions as any top commercial producer would. Result: Our cow production records are honest and reflect their true genetic potential.
2. The only calves that receive creep feed are on first calf heifers. Result: Production and Performance records are more meaningful for both us and customers.
3. We feed a high roughage ration designed for 3 pounds per head daily gain. Result: Bulls do not get over fat and maintain their body condition better when turned out and are ideally suited for grass consumption.
