Benidorm is unique but around it can be seen a variety of different types of countryside which are completely different to the coast, in spite of being only a few kilometres away. Its nearness to the mountains and to the huertas, invites the visitor staying in Benidorm to make numerous excursions to discover surprising places of natural beauty with different geographical features where it is possible to enjoy such pleasant activities as hiking or merely taking a gentle stroll and observing the surroundings. Among the areas of the interior are: the springs and waterfalls of El Algar, the medieval village of Castell de Guadalest, Confrides, Penáguila, Tárbena and the mountain ranges of Aitana and Bernia. However, it is also possible to make excursions along the coast and visit other attractive towns like Altea, Calpe, Villajoyosa, Denia, Santa Pola, Torrevieja and Alicante.

Castle of Guadalest Little more than four kilometres away from Callosa d’en Sarrià along the winding road following the valley of the Guadalest, and just over 15 kilometres from Benidorm, or by the alternative route from Benidorm along the road from Polop de la Marina following the mountain slopes, stands the ancient fortress of Guadalest, at the head of the valley, with its back to the reservoir named after the river. It rises up in a privileged setting high on the crags which tower over the valley, creating a medieval picture, really impressive with its unique structure and the charm of its haughty silhouette. The upright outline of the crags on wich the old castle stands can be made out from far away, the white bell-tower crowning the sharp rocks. As the visitor approaches and climbs the narrow streets full of little shops and stalls offering a wide range of typical products and handicrafts, he reaches the zig-zagging path up to the hundred-year-old door, carved into the very rock, which leads to the historic and impregnable

fortress, from whose square there is a wonderful view of the reservoir. A little further up, along the Via Crucis, the visitor reaches the terrace on which the castle, nowadays a cemetery, used to stand, to be rewarded with an exceptional panoramic view of orchards and pine forests streching away down to the sea, a landscape of breath-taking beauty. Reminders of the Middle Ages are kept in a seculed fromer prison in the basement of the Town Hall. In the assembly room, the visitor can appreciate a picture of considerable historic and artistic value. Castell de Guadalest offers the visitor the added charm of its varied museums where delicate miniatures, artistic sculptures, everyday utensils or models of outstanding accuracy can be seen. To complement all this, the typical mountain cuisine, handed down from generation to generation, is prepared with great pride in the various restaurants, making the visit to Castell de Guadalest an unforgettable experience which has inspired numerous travellers who have enjoyed this outstanding scenery to write glowing reports. A beach day on Playa De Levante Benidorm’s beaches are famous and the resort’s continuing success owes much to those fabulous golden sands stretching for a six kilometres high quality blue flag bathing, lifeguard patrols, a wealth of water sports and an impressive approach to cleanliness. This stretch of beach directly outside the Beach Terrace you will find a children’s play area on the sand so it’s an ideal spot for families to relax, let the young children play and conveniently close to the Beach Terrace for food and drinks. If you want more action throughout the day then you will not be walking too far because Levante beach is full of lively – loud and fun bars. Most offer great value food as well from Pizzas – Burgers and Fish n Chips is always my favorite being at the sea side it seems to be the taste of the day! Walking down from the Old Town end of Levante you will find the famous Guinness Bar offering some live music during the day a great place to

stop and eat on the terrace and watch live sport on TV. If you prefer something a bit more laid back and chilled out then next door is KU Lounge. A huge outside terrace makes this a popular place for beach lovers to drop in for a cool jug of Sangria. A few meters further along the beach front is the most affluent bar and frequented by locals the Moon Beach is a place to chill for morning coffee – cocktails and for most passers by this eye catching bar goes on the list to re visit in the evening. KM Playa is one of the Levante beach famous night spots transforming its self from a trendy beach bar during the day serving great food and drinks to becoming one of the main attractions of the night with a late night Discotheque at the rear. Stop here during the day breakfast or lunch and enjoy a Free glass of wine with your main meal until 7pm only with Vista Card Things now start to get really loud and lively as we walk further along towards the centre spots of the beach lets hit another famous American rock bar Daytona with a huge terrace that attracts large groups of young people rocking to the live music. Getting even louder Tiki Beach Bar is

always rammed full and seems to be one of the most popular of all the beach bars. The music Rocks all day with live performances from well known rock artists. Wetherspoons ?? yes thats right Levante beach has a Wetherspoons. Not the original UK based Wetherspoons but from what I have seen they are really doing a great job of attracting in

Live Music and the only bar I have seen Hawaiian Dancers perform their traditional dance routines and actually get people from the crowd to join in! There are two new Steak restaurants in Benidorm that are somewhat different than the norm, well the reason is the specific menu design offering amazing value and also the cooking method. Solo Buey is situated in Calle Gerona in Benidorm, directly opposite the India Gate another one of my favourites. It is a steakhouse which offers a selection of international cuisine, and their specialities are meat dishes which are served in an innovative and original way. You can sample a special menu of vegetable tempura, prawns, fillet steak and a dessert for only 9.90€ per person. The fillet steak is served to the table uncooked, and customers can enjoy the novelty of cooking it to their liking on a hot stone plate. Other specialities include t-bone steaks, sirloin steak and sirloin skewered brochettes. The meat in restaurant Solo Buey is of excellent quality, very reasonably priced and great value for money. The sister restaurant is situated on the beach promenade in Benidorm, this new restaurant is also an ideal place for coffee, cakes, ice cream and snacks. The decor is modern and stylish. If you like steak, then this restaurant really is a must, with a selection of set menus from 9.90€ that include starters, sirloin steak, salad and dessert or a fillet steak option with king prawns for 11.90€. Excellent value for money. Enjoy a great lunch or dinner on the outside terrace overlooking the ocean with spectacular views. Vista Card holders are able to enjoy the added benefit of a Free glass of wine with their meal.
