Filming for the 7th season of the Benidorm series’ started on Monday, the cast have been around Benidorm for about a week getting prepared and rehearsing so you may have seen them out and about, we had a number of readers tell us that they spotted Derren Litten, Danny Walters and Tim Healy at the Benidorm Palace on Sunday (23rd March) and they were causing a lot of excitement with people everywhere trying to get pictures. The hit ITV comedy was under some scrutiny for season 6 but regardless of what the critics have said people are still going mad for the show and the ratings reflected that with: Benidorm VI averaging 6.8million. hello

Hello readers, it’s officially now spring and with the clocks going back this weekend it is a true sign of the longer evenings and warmer days. Last week having been mostly over shadowed by the events of St Patricks day we have had a week to settle back down to things except the late night of Wednesday 19th to see the Fires burning and the wonderful statues going up in flames. I enjoyed my Spanish Father’s Day having time at home with my baby son and it was so even more enjoyable to be home knowing that in the UK Father’s day is not a public holiday so having this experience is just one of many benefits of living here in Spain. Just one week apart we have Father’s Day and then this Sunday Mother’s Day although it is the UK version, so for all the Brits have a great day relax, enjoy the Spring Sunshine and maybe the opportunity to spoil yourselves, mum, wife, grand mum or anyone else to a special meal always take a look at our Food & Drink pages for our suggestions and ideas. The main announcement of the week is to welcome you all to our brand new Weekly Buzz Press Office located in the indoor market Benidorm. The very first of its kind bringing you, the reader and business advertiser a local point of contact face to face with the local newspaper. You can visit us every day except on Sundays with your local news and stories, business owners can come along to place their advert and see their design layout. So whatever you need us for, The Weekly Buzz, The only local weekly read is there for you. QUICK TIPS- Residency Status

EMPADRÓNAMIENTOMUNICIPAL CENSUS

WHAT IS THE PADRÓN? It is basically the equivalent to the Town Hall Electoral Role. It allows the Town Hall and District Council to keep track of how many people are living within a municipality. Depending on the number of people registered, the municipality receives subsidies from both regional and central government. WHO SHOULD SIGN ON? Anyone who lives in a property here for more than six months in a year. The proof of having signed on the Padrón will be required for such things as importing a car from the UK, when signing on for a health card and enrolling a child into school. WHEN SHOULD THEY SIGN ON? When a person has been here more than three months and it is their intention to stay for at least six, if they wish to take advantages of the benefits or carry out any of the activities listed above. HOW DO THEY SIGN ON? Going to their local Town Hall, either attending in person or signing the corresponding authorization form to have someone else go in their stead. Taking with them proof of address, passport, NIE certificate and in the case of signing on other family member such as children; their passports and in some cases their birth certificates. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Apart from the reasons listed in “who should sign on”, some of the other benefits would be: civil rights; for example the right to vote. Those on the census would also have access to essential public services such as; SOCIAL SERVICES, HEALTH CENTRES, MEDICAL CARE, EMERGENCY SERVICES, AMBULANCES, POLICE, CIVIL PROTECTION, RUBBISH COLLECTION, STREET CLEANING, EDUCATION, SCHOOLS, SPORTS FACILITIES, CITIZENS ADVICE AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT, as the more people who sign on ensures a greater number of these amenities would have to be provided by the government.

Mothering Sunday 30th March

Time to Spring Forward

Mother’s Day in UK is celebrated with great excitement and verve but it does not fall on the same date as in Spain , in Spain it is known as 'Dia de la Madre' and is always celebrated on the first Sunday of May which this year will be the 4th. In the UK, Mother's Day celebrations take place on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Since the Lent days are not fixed, the date for Mother’s Day changes every year. Next year the date will change to the 15th of March Mother’s Day came to be celebrated in UK in 17th century as Mothering Sunday. Today, the traditional festival of Mothering Sunday is more commonly called Mother’s Day in the UK. So don’t forget the card and flowers!

This Sunday will be that time of year again, when we trade an hour of beauty sleep for a little extra daylight in the morning. Sunday, March 30th. That means you put your clocks forward one hour at 1am on Sunday 30th, this is also that time of year where people really wonder why there is a clock on their microwave and struggle to figure out.

History of Daylight Savings

The idea of daylight saving time was first conceived by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 during his stay in Paris. He published an essay titled “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light” that proposed to economize the use of candles by rising earlier to make use of the morning sunlight. The actual invention of DST was mainly credited to William Willett in 1905 when he came up with the idea of moving the clocks forward in the summer to take

White horse Line up

advantage of the daylight in the mornings and the lighter evenings. Willett’s daylight saving plan caught the attention of Robert Pearce who introduced a bill to the House of Commons in February 1908. The first Daylight Saving Bill was drafted in 1909 and presented to Parliament several times and examined by a select committee. However, the bill was opposed by many, especially farmers and thus the bill was never made into a law. Willett died in 1915 without getting the chance to see his idea come to life. DST was first adopted to replace artificial lighting so they could save fuel for the war effort in Germany during World War I at 11:00pm (23:00) on April 30, 1916. It was quickly followed by Britain and many countries from both sides, including the United States. Many countries reverted back to standard time post-World War I, and it wasn’t until the next World War that DST would make its return to many countries in order to save vital energy resources for the war.

Every night at the Yorkshire Pride 1-Calle Gerona

No backing tracks full on live sounds given to you by the very best talents of Wayne, lead Singer, Philip on the drums, Derek on Bass Guitar and Larry on Lead Guitar. The lads have been together now for 2 years playing gigs in Benidorm and were headlining last year at Chaplin's one of the most popular entertainment venues in the centre of Benidorm, they were also the top act for the Cultural Tourism Day last year. The coming together of the band was almost by accident because they simply bumped into each other and then got together for some sessions of fun at Wayne's house before deciding to launch themselves as “Mid Life Crisis. Each week they have their practice sessions on the balcony at Philip's home overlooking Alfaz High Street so if you passing by and get the

sounds of the Monkeys or the Killers or maybe you will see the people below dancing in the street this sort of gives it away then that will be them, but for a better experience head down to the Yorkshire Pride! The music style is a Big mix of Pop and Rock but a little bit of everything is thrown in and really whatever suits the crowd. Come and see them any night at the Yorkshire Pride 1 performing 7 Nights Week 11pm -2/3am. NEW TRAFFIC LAWS APPROVED Congress on Thursday passed new traffic legislation that will affect how

motorists, cyclists and even pedestrians use Spain’s roads. There are 20 new rules that you will need to be remember we have highlighted some of the main points, for full details see our Facebook page Foreign residents are now obliged to register vehicles in Spain. Until now, foreign residents must only meet tax obligations set out in the Excise Act, but it was not mandatory to register the vehicle in Spain, which in practice made it difficult for law enforcement. Children under 1.35 metres tall are prohibited from riding in the front seats of cars (200€ fine) Child cyclists, under 16 years of age, are obliged to wear a crash helmet when riding in towns. Pedestrians are also now subject to drug and alcohol testing, in the event of any offence having been committed, replacing the current legislation that only requires a test in the event of a pedestrian being involved in an accident. The speed on motorways remains at 120 kilometres per hour maximum, although the law does now allow for the increase of permitted speeds, and fines, should certain areas of highway be seen as acceptable to be increased to 130 kilometres per hour. A traffic law enforcement officer may now issue a fine without the need to stop the vehicle. Until now, certain surveillance activities have proved difficult when it came to the required identity of drivers, but this element will be removed by the filing process of the vehicle.

GUARDAMAR DEL SEGURA

Spend the morning in the hustle and bustle of the market in Guardamar, then visit the natural park at La Mata for a bit of peace and tranquillity. Have a relaxing day in the sun on the beach and an afternoon out of the sun bowling at the Ozone or shopping in the Habaneras in Torrevieja. Park at the south end of Guardamar and walk along the beach to La Mata for a spot of lunch (you’ll pass some restaurants as you enter La Mata but you’ll find more past the watch tower and if you continue onto the wooden promenade) then amble back slowly.

This popular town is renowned for its many kilometres of fine sandy beaches. It has a busy high street full of all kinds of shops as well as a busy market to keep even the most dedicated shoppers happy. You can explore the man-made dunes (created to stop the town from becoming buried in the sand) of the Alfonso Park or picnic under the pines. The Reina Sofia Park is a great place for the children with its floodlit play area and the nearby children's funfair and night market (both summer only) make for a good evening out. Don't forget to stop at the marina or visit the tourist office to find out more about Guardamar and to book yourself on the tourist train.

Places of interest

Beach: 12km of fine sand. Promenade: short beach front with cafes & restaurants. Town Centre: long high street.

Tourist Office: more information about Castle (ruin), Archaeology Museum, Engineer Mira Museum, the Moorish ruins in the Dunes and to book for the tourist train. Market: large Wednesday morning beside church. Night Market: Summer months only evenings. Children's Funfair: Summer months only evenings. Alfonso Park: sand dunes & pines, walking & picnics. Reina Sofia Park: children's floodlit play area, walks, small lake, ducks and peacocks. Marina & Marina Promenade: Spanish restaurant and boat trip to Tabarca Island. Ideas of things to do in Guardamar del Segura Have a relaxing day at the beach, enjoy an evening picnic in the sand dunes at the north beach and then a fun filled night at the night market and children’s funfair. Visit the market on a Wednesday morning and discover the centre of the town with its beautiful church and impressive town hall, then drive to the marina to admire the boats and stroll out to sea along the marina promenade. The food and service here are second to none and you are made to feel both welcomed and relaxed by the staff.Unfortunately I’m not in a position to comment about the desserts as whenever we have ate here we are alwaystoo stuffed full to have one BUT they do look as good as the rest of the food that is served here. Benidorm Series 7 Hasta la vista, Madge

as charismatic bar worker Mateo. ITV director of entertainment Elaine Bedell said: “After another successful run on screen we’re thrilled that a new series is about to start shooting on location in Spain.

“We’re equally pleased that some familiar faces from the Solana’s past will be making a welcome return to the sunshine.” Madge is checking out and hanging up the keys to her mobility scooter for the last time.as the Garvey family are to be written out of Benidorm. Portrayed by Sheila Reid Madge will be leaving the show along with Mick Garvey (Steve Pemberton) his wife Janice (Siobhan Finneran) and son Michael (Oliver Stokes) Many fans will be sad that the Garveys are leaving because they’ve been in every series and they are much loved, but writer Derren Litten is excited about their exit storyline.

Hundreds turn out foR Auditions

Johnny Vegas Is Back

The 42-year-old comedian - who starred in the ITV show from 2007 to 2009 - is set to make a comeback to the sitcom as his well-loved character Geoff Maltby, alongside Elsie Kelly who played his mother Noreen Maltby. Another blast from the past to return is Crissy Rock, who plays former Solana manageress Janey York. The Scouse actress made a surprise return in the last series as she emerged as the secret mastermind behind the plot to ruin the Solana’s reputation. Tim Healy will step back into his stilettos as character Les/Lesley along with Sherrie Hewson as manageress Joyce Temple Savage and the handsome Jake Canuso,

At the beginning of the month over 200 people queued for their chance to be seen in the Hit ITV comedy, auditions took place at Hotel Melia, the official time advertised was for 10am, many turned up earlier to grab their place near the front of the queue. Forms were handed out in the line which were available in Spanish and English and asked you all sorts of details you would expect with an audition, what you look like, distinctive features contact details (obvious for your call back) and any special skills, this was intriguing to many as when told you could put anything from sports such as swimming or martial arts all the way to things like driving and acrobats, how amazing would that be to show off to friends and family on TV! Residents from all languages and backgrounds apply for the extra roles hoping to get themselves on the box or close to some of the stars, we bumped into many happy people in the queue including Scott, a local barman from the Pig n’ Whistle Pub in the Old Town, who managed to get down early and grab a place right near the front of the queue. We hope he gets his chance during filming and we will be in close contact for as much inside info as possible.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas "All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." Abraham Lincoln

and knows the ins and outs of the three Rs. She works hard at reducing the ecological footprint of the people around her. Here are some great products that will help her help the environment.

Every man has a mother

We're reminding you of this because Mother's Day happens to be just around the corner, and we sincerely hope you've got plans to show your mom how much you appreciate her. If you haven't figured out a strategy, we're here to help get you on the right track by providing mother's day gift ideas for moms with different interests because it can be tough to find the gift that is just right. Keep in mind that hitting a home run on this day as a son or son-in-law is no excuse for neglecting moms the other 364 days in a year. But showing you care in the right way on Mother's Day certainly doesn't hurt. The Trendsetter You inherited your sense of style from her, and even now, she is ahead of the latest trends and has been reading Vogue as far back as you can remember. She rivals Diana Vreeland in your eyes, and since she really knows what’s up, it can be hard to find her a suitable gift. We put together some products she won’t be able to resist and that will earn you favoritechild status for this year, at least.

The Eco-Conscious Mom

Although the environment may not have been much of a priority in the past, your mom is with the times

18

The Fit Mom

Fitness is something your mom has understood to be one of the fundamental parts of a healthy lifestyle. When you got up early on Saturdays to watch cartoons, she was already out on her daily run and is still one of the healthiest people you know. Help her spice up her routine with some sweet new gear. Just make sure she won’t outrun you on your next workout together.

The Businesswoman

She taught you everything you know about business and is still going strong with her own. She’s busy, but always on top. Managing kids and a career is remarkable in itself, and moms often bypass taking care of themselves, which is why we’ve put together a couple of items that should help her plow through her busy lifestyle with the grace you’ve always admired her for.

The Chef

No, your mom makes the best Tiramisu. She’s the reason you can claim best recipe at a party even though you called her an hour before to ask how to make it. And she’s the reason you shun smart food as though it were an abomination to the spirit. She masters the art of comfort food just as much as she can pull off the trickiest and trendiest recipes out there. In fact, she should be on Top Chef.

Detoxifying Foods For Spring Spring is just around the corner, and it’s time to cleanse our bodies! In an ideal world, you would eat perfectly natural, unprocessed foods all the time. And if you’re able to do this, then you’re a champion! Kudos to you. But I want to be realistic here: not everyone is able to maintain a perfect lifestyle all year round, especially in the cold winter season. If you've been eating processed or cooked, especially fried, foods, then your organs and tissues are most likely to be poisoned. It’s time to let go of the toxins and prepare for the warm season with these 10 particularly detoxifying foods:

Celery

Also, their high soluble and insoluble fiber content contributes to cleansing of the colon and cancer prevention. Squeeze some lime or lemon juice into your water and drink first thing in the morning. Whole oranges and grapefruits are delicious and can be eaten as a snack or a whole meal!

Beets

Celery juice is very high in electrolytes, which are vital for proper hydration and cellular functions. It’s packed with minerals like potassium, magnesium, sodium and iron, therefore is very alkalizing and neutralizes the effects of acidifying foods, such as meat, dairy and highly processed foods. The sodium available in celery is soluble and organic, and helps get rid of salty food cravings, which is vital when you’re detoxing. It also has a strong protective effect against colon cancer. Add it to your green juices, salad or vegetable stews. Citrus The liver is considered the primary detoxifying organ, and beets are amazing for cleansing and restoring it. Beets contain important bioactive agents (betaine and polyphenols), which have a wide range of physiologic effects, including liver protection by increasing enzymatic antioxidants. Beets taste amazing in juices. You can also marinate grated beets and add them to your salads. Some people prefer to cook them, but please note that heating destroys a lot of nutrients, so it’s best to enjoy them in a raw form.

Citrus fruits like lemon, lime, grapefruit and orange are famous for their cleaning and alkalizing properties. They are high in vitamin C and other powerful antioxidants.

Sprouts Some research has shown that alfalfa, sunflower and other sprouts may protect from harmful bacteria, like salmonella and E. coli. Another study shows that sprouting seeds increases the levels of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant activity. Phenolic compounds help with the detoxification of mycotoxins (toxic substances produced by fungus) that affect human health.

U3A MARINA BAIXA BRIDGE FOR BEGINNERS

Geoffrey Parsons is teaching members of the U3A Marina Baixa to play Bridge! This in itself is difficult but on the 3rd.week Geoff had the patience to take two new members through the very basic principles of this game while encouraging the other members to apply what they had learned in the previous weeks. In less than half an hour the two groups were incorporated and the lesson on how to bid was taught. There was much amusement trying to follow the basic bidding order as it was practised by the group but Geoff persevered and amazingly it was achieved. The group left feeling satisfied that they could both add up the honors held (cards) and also make an opening bid! The group will meet next on Thursday 27th March at 5.00pm at the Forum Mare Nostrum in Alfaz del Pi. Geoff is a very patient man and is still willing to incorporate any other members who would like to learn to play bridge. For more information on all the activities available visit the website – www. u3amarinabaixa.com Facebook Page – Marina Baixa Or contact the secretary Joan Flint. Telephone 96 586 1226 – mobile 663 637 167 The U3A Marina Baixa annual membership is €12.00 equal to €1.00 per month. This entitles a member to join all or any of the groups they wish with the only extra cost being if materials or equipment are needed. A good social life enjoying or trying new hobbies and also meeting new friends is available with the U3A. The U3A Marina Baixa general meetings are held on the 4th.Monday of each month at the Social Centre, Albir (Near Mercadona). The next general meeting is on April 28 at 10.30am for 11.00am start.

MARCH ISSUE No.4/ 25th March -1st April 2014 (#24)

It’s all you need for a great read.

Your weekly Horoscope ARIES

If your life were a French film, Monday would be the part in the movie when you suddenly see what you need to do very clearly, and nothing can stand in the way of you doing it. Tuesday and Wednesday, you collect an Academy Award for your performance. People who pass you on the street pause and walk backwards a few yards just to explain what a role model you are to them. It’s funny, then, that Thursday and Friday should be so gloomy. An odd feeling follows your accomplishments on those days.

CANCER

For some reason, the face you present to the world on Monday is not the face you think you’re presenting. Expect wild misreading of your mood. And cut yourself a wide swath: Maybe going out with friends isn’t the best idea. Tuesday and Wednesday, the challenges you face are largely money-related. The more flexible you are, the sooner everything will be squared away. On Thursday and Friday, your energy level is finally as high as you’d like it to be. You’ll be stopping to help old ladies carry groceries up the stairs. This weekend, too, you’re busy as a bee.

LIBRA

TAURUS

At some point on Monday, you tune everything else out and suddenly think: Aha! What pops into your head isn’t a panacea to global conflict, but it’s significant to you. It’s the kind of insight that throws light on a number of answers. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you’re thinking radically, and you may be a little too invested in what others say. Keep in mind that you’re just extra-sensitive right now. Thursday and Friday, the solution to a small problem comes to you as advice from a good friend. Saturday and Sunday, take it easy.

LEO

With all the enthusiasm you have on Monday, you can’t go wrong. Convey your admiration to someone with an original jingle. Lay it on thick. Make a winning impression. Tuesday and Wednesday are entirely lacking in inspiration for original jingles, what with all the problems laid out before you — power struggles, other issues. But Thursday and Friday put you in an incredibly creative mood, and you want to do something meaningful. Listen and be open to anything. Follow your instincts. Saturday and Sunday, someone teaches you something interesting.

SCORPIO

You’re flooded with thoughts of the past on Monday. You may be thinking about world history or about personal history — whatever the case, you’re sentimental about it. Chalk up the bummer feeling to the emotional vicissitudes of everyday life. And chalk this up to the same: Tuesday and Wednesday are nothing but fun. Good times and great conversations. On Thursday and Friday, you’re inundated with work projects. Getting as much done as possible before the weekend is smart. Saturday and Sunday, you’ll want to spend all your time staring into someone’s eyes.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way — this is truer than ever on Monday. Let your determination make the naysayers step back. But be pleasant about it. As you initiate new projects in one realm of your life, another realm — your home life — seems to take a turn for the worse, especially on Wednesday. The problems are not as bad as they seem, though, and Thursday and Friday provide you with plenty of time for unadulterated pleasure. Music or theater figures prominently. Saturday and Sunday, as much as you’d like to stay in the art-appreciation mindset, fitness is crucial.

You know that feeling when your favorite song comes on the radio? That enthusiastic, elated feeling? That’s what Monday is like, but on a bigger scale, obviously, because it doesn’t last only three minutes; it lasts all day. Tuesday and Wednesday, apply yourself to a project that has eluded you for a long time. The breakthrough won’t come until you’re already a few steps into it. Then, Thursday and Friday, be purely creative. If you’ve been writing songs, write more. Indulge your impulses. Get work done some other time. That said, on Saturday and Sunday, if your family needs you, be there.

You’re a train conductor on Monday, and the most important thing is that you stay on the tracks. Keeping to your schedule is important, too. You’re a vital link in a much bigger system and there’s a lot riding on you, so be disciplined. Thankfully, Tuesday and Wednesday offer chances to have fun. Maybe you’ll meet an intelligent traveler who takes a liking to you. Romance could occur. Thursday and Friday, you’re constantly sidetracked — though in a dreamy, pleasant way. (Just make sure you’re not in anyone else’s way.) This weekend, you find yourself in bohemian environs. Cool.

Like a certain out-of-season mythical holiday figure, you’re drawing up lists and checking them twice on Monday. The problem is that nothing is clear at the moment, so try as you might to categorize and strategize, it just doesn’t work. Tuesday and Wednesday, look for other ways of organizing your life. Consider the ideas presented in the context of friendly debate. Remember that you stand to learn something. Thursday and Friday, deep thinking turns into intense dreaming. Make yourself heard on Saturday and Sunday.

VIRGO

The romance of Sunday extends into Monday and starts your week on what may be the best foot possible. It’s the foot you use to tango. It’s excellent when romance has a creative dimension to it, isn’t it? Tuesday and Wednesday, the urge to clean house overcomes you — it’s a happy, productive urge. If, while you’re cleaning, someone calls to ask for your advice on something, don’t take the opportunity to be critical. Be purely constructive. Thursday and Friday, others won’t be as organized as you (surprise, surprise), but don’t let it get to you. This weekend, your spirits are high.

SAGITTARIUS

Saving money can be a source of pleasure, a challenge, a game of sorts. Rather than buying wrapping paper and a card, write a message to someone on a piece of paper and wrap your present in the note. You know, that kind of thing. Tuesday and Wednesday, extend your creativity by communicating with perfect strangers — you never know with whom you might hit it off. Thursday and Friday, you won’t be hitting it off with many people, what with the bizarre waves of weariness crashing upon you. In the latter half of the week, Saturday and Sunday are your social days.

PISCES

By asking someone for a favor on Monday, you may be doing them a favor without knowing it. So, if they say yes, don’t feel guilty. As a way of expressing your thanks (to them and to the world at large), make your services available — for free — on Tuesday and Wednesday. Friends helping friends is a beautiful kind of economy. Then, Thursday and Friday, the time comes to do yourself a favor. Maybe this means splurging at a spa, or maybe it means something more modest, like buying a book you’ve had your eye on. This weekend is a perfect time for reading.

Google made its ambitions for the wearable market clear yesterday when it unveiled a new operating system for powering smartwatches: Android Wear. Now, the first designs from selected hardware partners are starting to emerge with both LG and Motorola releasing pictures of their upcoming gadgets. Both companies have a long history of working with Google and it seems likely that these devices will be as close to the search giant’s vision of the smartwatch as you’re likely to come by. LG previously built two of the company's Nexus smartphones while Motorola

The question is, how will LG and Motorola's offerings compare to the current crop of smartwatches? In terms of checking boxes, there’s not a lot of new functionality but the deciding factor will be how well all these features come together. Will the touchscreens be responsive? How long with the battery last? Will syncing be a hassle or seamless? None of this is easy to predict, but if these devices really do have Google’s blessing then we can at least expect an improvement over what’s currently on the market. What's more, it seems that it's technology like this (rather than the oops-we-created-the-futureyou-dreaded, aka Google Glass) that will be leading wearables forward.

Rooney wonder goal sets United up for another victory Six days ago, Manchester United were being humiliated by Liverpool at Old Trafford. But on Saturday against West Ham -- and despite the absence of Robin van Persie -- they were on cruise control, riding a pair of goals from Wayne Rooney (including what might go down as the goal of the season) to a routine, comfortable 2-0 win. The first half -- and probably the whole match -- was overshadowed by Rooney's wonder-goal. Challenging James Tomkins for a bouncing ball on the halfway line, Rooney rolled his opponent, spotted Adrian off his line, and blasted a perfect 55-yard shot home to give the visitors the lead. It has been coming, too. For all the talk of Manchester United's issues this season, they're still dangerous on their day, and David Moyes' side had had West Ham on the back foot for most of the opening spell. The Hammers replied by pushing up, and Mohamed Diamé might have done better when he worked his way through the visitors' makeshift defence only to delay his shot too long and coughed up possession, but Manchester United

Barcelona Wins Another Classico!

Real Madrid 3-4 FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona won a seven-goal thriller at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, cutting Real Madrid's lead in La Liga to just a single point. Lionel Messi was undoubtedly the man of the match as he scored a hat trick and assisted the other goal. After a first half of epic proportions found Sunday’s El Clasico knotted up at 2-2, La Liga giants Barcelona and hosts Real Madrid doubled down on the excitement in a second half befitting of the hype. The first tally of the second half found Ronaldo winning a controversial penalty after some boot-to-boot contact with Dani Alves that appeared to occur just outside the box. He finished low and hard to the left of Valdes to restore Madrid’s lead, 3-2 in the 55th.

But the PK shoe was on the other foot eight minutes later as Sergio Ramos picked up a red card for Real Madrid. If the first decision carried controversy, this one was that and then some, as Neymar was free of Ramos when he appeared to trip over his own two feet, literally, inside the box. Lionel Messi finished and it was 3-3. Barca won the match’s third penalty in the 84th minute, when Xavi collided with Xabi Alonso inside the box. Messi converted his hat trick but more importantly launched Blaugrana within a point of both Madrid teams. Barcelona came into this match four points behind Real Madrid, but thanks to Lionel Messi's heroics, that lead has been slimmed down to just one point. Barcelona had to suffer, trailing at two points in the match, but in the end, they pulled the big win out of their seemingly endless bag of tricks over 10-man Real Madrid. Anything but three points for FC Barcelona would have dealt a serious blow to their title chances. A loss all but would have eliminated them, opening up a 7 point gap. A draw, while better, was not what the Blaugrana were aiming for. Thanks to key men such as Messi and Andres Iniesta, Barcelona have taken a big step towards retaining the Liga title.

had West Ham right where they wanted them -pressing up the pitch and leaving space behind into which they could surge. The visitors' second came on the counterattack. With West Ham screaming for a penalty at one end of the pitch, Ashley Young surged up their left flank, and although the winger's cross wasn't good enough to find Shinji Kagawa at the back post, Mark Noble made a hash of the attempted clearance, hitting the ball off Rooney's ankles and in to make it 2-0 to Manchester United. Rooney's brace turned out to be more than enough for Manchester United to secure the points. Down by two, West Ham didn't have it in them to push for a comeback draw, and the second half was an extraordinarily quiet affair. With the points wrapped up, Moyes had the chance to rest the likes of Rooney and Juan Mata with 15 minutes still left to play -- the focus now is on the Manchester derby in midweek. If the Red Devils can get a win there, perhaps some of the sting will be taken out of the season.

FA Allows 3G Phil Taylor wins pitches in FA Cup Second PDC ProTour title

The Football Association has confirmed artificial pitches will be allowed in every round of the FA Cup from next season. Under current rules, 3G (third generation) surfaces are banned from the first round of the competition and in professional league from the Conference upwards. The decision to allow 3G ("third generation") surfaces from next season will be welcomed by clubs who rely on their more sustainable running costs. Artificial surfaces were outlawed from English professional football almost 20 years ago. "Clubs are increasingly seeing the benefits of using 3G surfaces across the football pyramid and clubs who play on those surfaces can now retain home advantage in the competition," FA general secretary Alex Horne said. "The value of 3G pitches has been clearly demonstrated during the recent wet weather where leagues within the grassroots game have migrated to them to address fixture backlogs."

Phil Taylor won his second PDC ProTour title of 2014 with an imperious showing to claim victory in Players Championship 4 in Crawley on Sunday, whitewashing Ian White in the final. The 16-time world champion was in stunning form throughout the day, winning six of his seven matches with ton-plus averages and ending the day with an overall average of 106.59 - not to mention missing double 18 for a nine-dart finish against Michael Smith. Taylor opened the day with a 109.98 average as he whitewashed Brian Woods, and then overcame Mareno Michels and Paul Nicholson before defeating Vincent van der Voort with a stunning 118.42 average to reach the quarter-finals. There, he avenged his world championship defeat to Michael Smith with a 6-1 win, which included missing double 18 for a nine-darter before he returned to land double nine for a ten-dart winning leg. He then saw off Mervyn King in the semi-finals with a 6-2 triumph before sweeping past Stoke rival White in the decider to take the £10,000 first prize.

Chelsea hit Arsenal for six in Wenger's 1,000th game

Chelsea ripped apart Premier League title rivals Arsenal in a 6-0 mauling at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to ensure Arsene Wenger's 1,000th game turned into a nightmare for him and blundering referee Andre Marriner. Goals from Samuel Eto'o, Andre Schuerrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar (2) and Mohamed Salah coupled with Marriner's daft decision to send off Kieran Gibbs for a handball by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will ensure Wenger remembers the day for all the wrong reasons. The visitors had the first chance with Olivier Giroud forcing a smart save from Petr Cech after four minutes but seconds later they fell behind. The sending-off did little to affect the destination of the points, however, as Arsenal were already 2-0 down when Gibbs was dismissed for his team mate's indiscretion and Hazard stepped up to covert the resulting penalty after just 17 minutes. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho extended his unbeaten record against his bitter managerial rival to 11 games and the league leaders moved seven points clear of third-placed Arsenal having played a game more.

Second-placed Liverpool, who are also seven points adrift of Chelsea with two games in hand. This was Arsenal's biggest defeat since they were thrashed 8-2 by Manchester United in 2011 and will feature high on Wenger's list of worst performances in his 17-1/2 years in charge. It was the second time in six weeks that Arsenal had visited a major title rival and left with their tails between their legs after their 5-1 thrashing by Liverpool last month. In a similar vein to that encounter, their defence was all at sea in the early stages, allowing Chelsea to effectively wrap up the points within minutes of the kickoff.

"We started incredibly, Seven minutes gone we were 2-0 up, it's game over. We started very strong. I sent the message across that it was very important that we really want Arsenal to feel not comfortable. J. Mourinho
