An 18-year-old Icelandic teen was killed while riding on a rollercoaster at Terra Mitica and a child of around 4 years of age has been seriously injured on Monday after apparently falling from a statue at Terra Natura. The 18-year-old is thought to have been flung from the ride “Inferno” early reports from national newspaper initially reported the teen was British, however, Tuesday morning a police spokesman said: “He is from Iceland and not British as

some reports have said.” A shocked witness to the horror, Lynn Alexander from Glasgow had just collected her teenage daughters from the ride when the incident happened. “We turned around and saw a group of people shouting ‘drop, drop’ and pointing. Then it became apparent what happened and everyone was in shock,” she told British newspaper The Mirror. “The park got everyone off the ride but it seemed to take ages. Then

Continued from page 1 we saw the teenager’s family and they were obviously distraught.” Inferno is the newest attraction at Terra Mitica, which joined the fleet in 2007. It's a roller coaster that gives 360 degree spins and reaches 60 miles per hour. Terra Mitica released a statement confirming that the attraction has an official certification and was confirmed the “optimal functioning of the attraction with the highest level of security”. The certification, which was conducted by an external amusement park safety company, was conducted prior to the park opening for the summer season in April. The company reemphasized Tuesday, that "the security system is very strict" and underlined that "harnesses are locked with two hydraulic cylinders with electric opening and, therefore, may only be opened when standing." They have also reported that they have contacted the German company that built the attraction and for their engineers to investigate what happened and find the causes of the accident.

Welcome Readers...

Before I mention sport my focus to this week’s welcome note is all about SUN PROTECTION it’s been a record month for high temperatures so far in July and the trend for this month is set as being a very hot summer in 2014. The danger is the UV rays especially in direct sun and on the beach where there is almost no shelter at all, you can get burnt literally in a few minutes. With a light breeze the beach is the most common place for people to get caught out, thinking it will be ok its not to sunny as there is a breeze it always feels cooler but in fact it’s the worst time as you just don't notice it so much. Factor 50 sun block is the only way to protect yourself from the strong summer UV

rays, it is quite simple if you don’t cover yourself properly then you can only expect to get burnt. I love the beach and taking my baby son it’s a time we spend together that is wonderful and where you get the best memories of your kids growing up, days on the beach are one of those for the photo album. So without wanting to put a damper on the situation I just cannot stress enough to protect yourself and most importantly the children with a high factor sun block. I applied the sun block factor 50 to my son but of course like most adults only managed to do my own easy to reach parts therefore missing the middle of my back and also the back of my legs. I can't tell you how uncom-

fortable I am now with itchy sun burn and tight skin there really isn't anything worse! So please be warned cover up with a good UV block and enjoy the sun, don’t not suffer it, and avoid too long in direct sun as you could also get sun stroke that makes you extremely unwell and can even put you in hospital for treatment. To lighten the mood I watched one of my favourite annual events on Sunday, the Men's Wimbledon Final an epic five sets between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. For sports fans in general it was a fantastic weekend with the British F1 GP and the quarter finals of the World Cup a full weekend of thrills and spills, for me it was absolutely fantastic to watch. With the World Cup final in sight for the coming weekend I think we will all be a little lost when it is finished as I think it all goes a little quiet for a month or so, well I suppose there are a number of women that

might be a bit happier. ITV APOLOGISES FOR BENIDORM REPEAT FEATURING ROLF HARRIS REFERENCES ITV has apologised after a repeat episode of Benidorm referencing Rolf Harris was broadcast a day after the star was convicted of indecent assault. The episode ended with Tim Healy’s character Les singing karaoke to Harris’ 1969 hit “Two Little Boys”, which was introduced as a “classic Rolf Harris number”. In one scene, character Jacqueline, played by Janine Duvitski, talked about a rock star and asked: “Didn’t his wife have an affair with Rolf Harris?” The repeat was followed immediately by the ITV News, which included the latest story about the performer’s offences. In a statement, ITV said: “This was a repeat episode of Benidorm and we wish to apologise for this oversight.” The repeat was pulled from being

aired an hour later on ITV+1. Benidorm writer Derren Litten also apologised for the ill-timed repeat, writing on Twitter: “Extremely unfortunate timing of a Benidorm repeat tonight. Apologies to anyone who was offend-

ed.” He continued: “An apology was appropriate as ITV went from a song made famous by Rolf Harris straight into the news with that headline.” However, he added that “Two Little Boys” was not written by Harris. “It was a song written in 1902 about the American civil war. First made popular by Harry Lauder,” he wrote. Rolf Harris was found guilty on all 12 counts of indecent assault from 1968 and 1986 and was sentenced last Friday to five years and nine months in prison, He will also sign the Sex Offenders' Register.Last year, the BBC was forced to apologise after broadcasting a repeat episode of children’s show The Tweenies which featured one of the characters dressed as Jimmy Savile.

PIZZERIA TOSCANA Calle Gerona, 3 Benidorm. Reservations: 966 80 87 07 One of Benidorm's oldest and most popular Italian restaurants. I have been eating here for many years now and remember going with my cousins as a special treat after work. Their pasta is delicious and one of my favourite dishes is the meat Tortellini with ham and mushrooms, covered in a creamy sauce and sprinkled with fresh grated parmesan. The salads are also an excellent choice, but you will probably be best sharing as they are huge, only the best, and freshest ingredients are used to add to these beautifully presented platters.

A fine selection of meat and fish is also available, freshly cut and cooked on the coals ("brasa" in Spanish) for those who love that charcoal grilled taste. The peppercorn sauce that I order with my fillet is positively scrumptious. However what does set this restaurant aside from most, is their authentic "wood burning" pizza oven, which turns even the simplest of Margaritas, into one of the tastiest pizzas I've had to date! Toscana is a bright and comfortable restaurant boasting a wide selection of the finest beers and wines. Big groups are always welcome, just call ahead if

you want to reserve for any special occasion, they will even be happy to make a cake for you! With the same owners for over 18 years and having some of the best reviews around town, Toscana should be next on your list when deciding where to go for your next meal out. They did an all you can eat menu for 15.95 euros a person which is great value, a similar meal in the area of the Uk I live in would cost at least double that. “Yummy yummy steak house”

“Enjoyable top quality Italian with fabulous sea view”

Reviewed 17 May 2013 Situated on the quieter Pontente beach front of Benidorm the restaurant is simply furnished but has outdoor seating along with stunning views across the beach to the sea. Our party enjoyed delicious homemade lasagne and pasta dishes and there was a great selection of starters. When we visited in May the restaurant closes from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. Staff were friendly and food is prepared in an open kitchen. Not the cheapest italian in the area, but then it is right on the sea front, but the quality of food is clearly a cut above the average. We all came away smiling and satisfied.

DENIA

One of Denia’s greatest assets is its huge stretch of wide, sandy, dune covered beaches, which offer refreshing bathing and a wide array of water sports or a cool beer and a snack in one of the many beach bars along the sands. Situated 85km north of Alicante, Denia has a real Spanish feel about it, and is a favourite holiday destination for Spaniards from inland. The old town has an interesting castle which dates right back to the 11th century. Sitting atop a hilltop right in the middle of the town, the castle gardens offer grassy picnic areas and observation points with incredible views across Denia and the Mediterranean. Within the castle you will find the Palau del Governador with its museum. Along with the other interesting museums in Denia, the

Express), run by FGV. This is not a specific tourist railway; it provides transport throughout and year and is geared to commuter use. This and the huge fishing fleet have made Denia a very prosperous city over the past years. The colourful fishing boats which bop up and down in the town harbour make a beautiful, relaxing scene, and have been the subject of many an artist. If you like shopping, the main road of Calle de Marques de Campo offers a huge variety of stores . And designer boutiques are dotted along the tree-lined avenue Carrer Marques de Campo. Make sure you test some of the excellent cakes and sweets of local confectionery

Museo Etnologico will give you further details on the rich history and culture of the area. Alternatively you can take a stroll through the Barrios Antiguos – the old town – to the Plaza de la Constituçion, which is dominated by the Baroque Iglesia de la Asuncion church. Look out, too, for the colourful fisherman shacks, just off the beach promenade. With about 29,000 inhabitants, Denia does not only make its living from tourism, it possesses one of the most important harbours in the area, with ferry connections to Ibiza and Mallorca. The ferry to Ibiza and the other Balearic Islands departs daily. The city also serves as the northern terminus for a picturesque metre gauge railway line through the mountains from Alicante (popularly known as the Limón

and bakery shops, Denia is famous for them. Denia is situated between Gandia to the north and Javea in the south, and is one of the most visited cities in the area, especially in the summer. Both Gandia and Javea are also interesting towns to visit, and both have fishing pasts which are still evident. You can travel to both places by boat, and even carry on to Altea and Benidorm should you so wish to. If you just want to relax on the golden sands, you have a choice of either the beaches north of the harbor, which tend to be livelier, while the southern ones offer up peace and seclusion. Les Deveses and Les Marines, both within 15 minutes’ drive to the north of Denia – are Blue Flag winners,

too. You’ll find sunbeds and parasols to rent, while the seafront promenade has a great selection of bars, cafés and restaurants. The bonfire festival is celebrated each March. Huge paper mache statues, called fallas are set up throughout the town, and then set ablaze. The Bous a la Mar (meaning "Bulls at the Sea" in Valenciano) is held in July. The highlight of this week long festival is watching bulls run down the main street Marqués de Campo, only to be chased into the Mediterranean sea by those daring enough to enter a makeshift bull ring with them. Since 1974 Denia has been home to painter and sculptor Joan Castejón. The town honored him as Adoptive Son of

It’s a positive week for financial matters, and with Venus in your solar chart encouraging you to have a flutter or two, it’s nice to know lady luck is on your side. The sun in your sign brings exciting new opportunities, and if there’s a chance to travel, grab it fast.

Leo -

Create the right impression at work and at home by showing others you feel positive about the future, and want to make the kind of changes that would aid and abet all concerned. You’re energetic and eager, to help so take the initiative with confidence. You’ll be fine.

You’re heading skywards this week as the lunar high boosts you into overdrive, and into the realms of new actions and possibilities. You’re about to be the centre of attention, but with your presence and know how, you’ll eat up the attention and will show the rest how its done.

PIPERS OF THE TRENCHES Around 2,500 pipers from Scotland, England, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand served in the First World War and within a year a thousand of them were dead. This film uncovers stories of bravery as descendants of those pipers visit the Somme and Gallipoli, the battlefields where their unarmed relatives accompanied their comrades over the top.

THE MEN WHO MADE US SPEND

Jacques Peretti investigates the methods used to persuade people to buy consumer goods and confronts those behind bestselling products and successful sales strategies. In the first edition, he examines how product lifespans hold the key to consumerism and explores the origins of planned obsolescence, revealing how a group of electrical manufacturers organised a light-bulb cartel in the 1920s.

10,000 people Visit DOG OF THE WEEK Looking for love and not a happy tail! Medieval Market More than 10,000 people passed through the 10th Medieval Market of La Nucia during the weekend, the event took place on Friday 4th and went on until Sunday and was one of the main events marking the 309th anniversary of the founding of La Nucia (1705-2014).There were 70 authentic crafts stalls and the streets were decorated for the occasion which delighted the thousands of visitors of all nationalities who walked through the old town of La Nucia enjoying the crafts, music, fun, street theatre the and games for children. To complete the atmosphere there were medieval troubadours, stilt walkers, clowns, pages, musicians, jugglers and other medieval characters who walked the streets and entertained on the corners, the evenings were even more magnificent with entertainers juggling and eating fire and contortionists, the night time really made you feel you were travelling back in time.

Please meet our three new arrivals. Dumped at Benidorm Pound covered in fleas and ticks and only about 6 months old. Add in the fact that they are scared of people and you begin to wonder what start in life they have had! It must have been a terrible time for them since the day that they were born and yet these dogs still look at you with that powerful mixture of fear and hope. A cold stark concrete pen with no blanket and no bed looks inviting to them. They lay down and looked at peace for the first time perhaps ever and then we managed to get our first real look at them. Their tails have been shorn off. Their ears hacked at, right back, with short strokes as though a pair of scissors were used. You raise a hand near them and they run to the furthest corner to hide in a group huddle just hoping not to be the one pulled out for further torture. We call ourselves humans as we are the only species that supposedly shows ‘humanity’. Well for these poor pups I hope that a cold stark life in a pound with volunteers who will try to socialize them, will prove to them that not all humans are the same. Maybe in time these lovely dogs will get the chance to know a loving home, where the only hand raised near then is to offer a treat or a lead for a pleasant walk. I probably hope for too much but maybe one day if we all just cared…… .life could be different! For more dogs please check out our facebook page Benidorm Dog

Pound needs your help to raise funds to treat our dogs in need. We need you to help us walk our dogs and socialise them to be ready to move into a new home. You can donate unwanted items to our stall on a Saturday at El Cisne. Donate funds using paypal at yeso1977@hotmail.com. How about spending an hour or two with us walking the dogs any day between Monday and Saturday 10am to 1pm. We love meeting you and so do the dogs. Call Maria on 0034 677 37 33 96. If you can bring leads along then that would be fantastic too. Another way to help is to become a cyber buddy for a dog. We have so many dogs that a lot don’t ever leave the pound and end up dead one morning on a cold concrete floor. A cyber buddy changes that and you can help from anywhere in the world. It’s easy to do and makes a huge difference to a dog finding a new forever home. It takes just 2-3 minutes a day for you!

QUPA now in Altea

The team at Qupa, guaranteed medical treatments. Qupa have three medical centres, they are located in Los Montesinos, Murcia and now also in Altea, that offer an alternative treatment to surgery for varicose veins and fistula pain. The Qupa vascular team, and the Angio-proctological surgery unit, offer an alternative option to surgery for varicose veins, and anal pathologies, through established medical treatments with guaranteed results. Treating the unsightly and painful veins that used to be treated in an operating room, with high risk, surgical intervention and often complications. However, Qupas vascular team reinforces its pioneering physicians, by performing treatments without surgery. "In the treatment of varicose veins, we rejuvenate the veins instead

of destroying them, because it isn't necessary to destroy a part of your circulatory system, just to get rid of varicose veins", says Dr. Juan Mariano Perez Adab p.l.n 30/03844, specialist in general surgery, digestive apparatus and accredited cardiovascular surgery. This medical treatment is less aggressive than surgery and it offers better results, for both physical appearances and for your health. Another of the many specialties that the team of Qupa offer during the 1st year of treatment are price capped quotations, and unlimited revisions during that treatment. This ensures the successful involvement and patient satisfaction. Also as anal pathologies, including fistula pain, we have seen the rise in cases over the recent years, due to the current way of life. For this, the vas-

cular team at Qupa provides new treatment discovered by Israeli doctor, Dr.Yariv Malimovka, the most experienced medic in this team of surgeons. We use a conventional form of treatment that consists of two injections into the affected area, with results in just 15 days. To prevent the first injection being painful, the patient has the option of a light sedation during the treatment, so the next injection is not felt. The vascular team at Qupa ensures optimal results in treating varicose veins and fistula pain, by having the most professional team that can guarantee results. With treatment that doesn't come with a pricey surprise. For more information you can contact us on 650 409 877 or find us in Clínica la Mar,C/ La Mar, 121 Altea.

HAMMY WINS BRITISH GP

The World Championship fight is back on. Lewis Hamilton has won the British GP to close within four points of the summit after World Championship leader Nico Rosberg retired from the lead of the race.

thank you so much," Hamilton told the crowd from the podium. "We have the greatest fans here. It was you guys who spurred me on. I don't want to see a team-mate fail, I want a one-two, but I really needed this result."

Finally, Britain has a success story to celebrate this summer with an emotional Hamilton, in the depths of despair just 24 hours previously, close to tears in the immediate aftermath of arguably one of the most imporant - and popular - wins of his career. "It's you guys who spurred me on so

He certainly did. But while a jubilant Silverstone crowd applauded their home hero, the pity was that Rosberg’s broken gearbox had denied them a grandstand finish with a fast-charging Hamilton rapidly closing in on his teammate prior to his retirement. Albeit in part due to the worsening

The 34-year-old crashed heavily on the opening lap of Sunday's race to bring out the red flag which caused an hour's suspension of the event while organisers completed trackside repairs. With the impact measuring a massive 47G, Raikkonen was immediately taken to circuit's medical centre for a mandatory check-up. Starting the race from 18th place, Raikkonen was forced wide entering the Wellington Straight on the opening lap and on his return to the track over the grass hit a bump which unstabled the car with dramatic consequences. Pitched into a heavy nose-first

impact with the outside guardrail, the Finn came spinning back across the track in front of the oncoming field and then was then clouted by former teammate Felipe Massa’s own spinning Williams, the Brazilian forced into take sudden evasive action in order to try and avoid the Ferrari. Raikkonen came to rest in the barriers on the other side of the track and while he was able to extricate himself from the car, the 34-year-old hobbled away from the scene assisted by trackside marshals from where he was taken to Silverstone medical centre. "At turn 5, I went off the track and

condition of Rosberg’s gearbox, a pumped-up Hamilton had eaten almost five seconds out of Rosberg’s lead in as many laps before the German's stricken Silver Arrows crawled to a terminal halt. LEWIS WANTED NICO DUEL “I was gutted not to have a wheel-towheel race,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1. “I went to the prime tyre and he was on the options and yet I was catching him at the time. I knew then that at the end of the race on the option tyre I was going to be in a position to fight to him and I was so excited for that. But it wasn’t meant to be this weekend. He’ll come back strongly at the next race and I really hope we can continue battling.” "I don’t want anything bad for my team-mate. I want him to be at his best and me to be at my best so we can really see the difference.” Speaking in the post-race press conference, Hamilton's confident belief that he was the faster driver on the day was abundantly clear. "I really felt I had the pace on Nico, that I was hunting him down like never before. I have the pace, I just have to put the laps together, and when I do I think that the opportunities will come," he said.

GOOD WEEK TWO WICKETS FOR FRED ON RETURN

Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff took two wickets on his return to competitive cricket as Lancashire beat Worcestershire by 50 runs to move top of the NatWest T20 Blast North Division. Flintoff, 36, was listed to bat at number eight and was not required as his side piled up 229-4 at New Road.

BAD WEEK DI MARIA OUT OF SEMI-FINAL

Kimi crashes out

while trying to get back on, I must have hit a kerb. I then lost control of the car and ended in the barriers," said Raikkonen in the team's official press release. Despite the verocity of the accident and the sight of the Finn walking gingerly away from his stricken F14 T, a Ferrari spokesman confirmed after the race that the Finn had sustained no more than bruises to his leg and ankle. "Fortunately, he is okay, with no serious injuries and that’s the most important thing," added technical chief Pat Fry.

Angel Di Maria will miss Argentina's semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday after hobbling out of their match with Belgium over the weekend. Team doctor Daniel Martinez said: "Angel has a Grade One strain. Of course he won't play in Argentina's next game.

NEYMAR FEARED CAREER WAS OVER

coach Luiz Felipe Scolari claims Neymar feared he was paralysed shortly after he was injured during the 2-1 World Cup quarter-final victory over Colombia on Friday. Neymar has been ruled out for between three and six weeks after he was hit in the lower back during an aerial challenge with Colombia defender Juan Zuniga in the latter stages of the game in Fortaleza. The 22-year-old forward informed Brazil defender Marcelo he had no sensation in the lower part of his body as he lay on the turf moments

after the challenge. Scans revealed Neymar fractured a vertebra following the collision, and the player, who is now back at home, is expected to make a full recovery and be fit for the start of the domestic season with Barcelona. "Marcelo ran up to Neymar and asked him how he was feeling and he told him: 'I can't feel my legs.'," Scolari said. The Brazil boss is hopeful Neymar will enjoy the remainder of the competition with the rest of the squad.

"He will be with us if he can, on the bench or in the stands," the former Chelsea manager said. "We have already asked him to do this. It all will depend on how he is in the upcoming days. If he can do it, I am certain that he will." And Brazil team doctor Jose Luiz Runco has confirmed Neymar should be back in the groove in around six weeks. "He does not have any neurological injury that would compromise his life as an athlete or a human being," Runco said.

TRIBUTES TO DI STEFANO

Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano, regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, passed away at the age of 88 on Monday afternoon, the news came less than 48 hours after he suffered a heart attack on Saturday and had been in an induced coma in Madrid's Gregorio Maranon hospital. Clubs and players from across the world have also paid tribute to the Argentine-born player known as 'La Saeta Rubia' (the blond arrow), who was instrumental in establishing Real Madrid among the aristocrats of European football as they won the first five staging’s of the European

Cup in which he scored in each final between 1956 and 1960. Cristiano Ronaldo ‘Don Alfredo leaves us, but his memory will last forever in our hearts. Legends never die. Thanks for everything Maestro. #EternoAlfredo’, tweeted the Portugal captain. Sir Bobby Charlton "I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Alfredo Di Stefano's passing," Sir Bobby told ManUtd.com. "As one of the stars of the legendary Real Madrid team, I think Alfredo was one of the best players I ever came across and an extremely intelligent footballer”. Sir Alex Ferguson “Di Stefano was

without question in that group of great, great players". He recalled Di Stefano's "wonderful balance and poise" when he watched him at Hampden Park in the 1960 European Cup final. Pele, former Brazil star (via Twitter) “Back when we played, Santos and Real Madrid were for many years’ primary rivals, for having the best football teams in the world. Today, the openness between Latin American players and European clubs is very much due to the work of Alfredo Di Stefano. He was a trailblazer, and most of all, he was a legend of the game. God rest his soul.”
