RAYS II CHIPPY AVENIDA MEDITERRANEO 58 The British visitors and many locals enjoy a regular feast of the famous favourite from back home FISH & CHIPS. June & Steve from Leeds are the owners of Rays ll since 1985 and continue to put a big smile on the faces of their customers by serving top quality fish and chips.

host of British favourites that include homemade apple crumble, trifle, cheesecake treacle or jam sponge and custard, chocolate fudge cake with hot chocolate sauce are just some of the desserts available. June and Steve gave me some of the history

So what makes Rays ll stand out from the rest and makes the real difference to the quality? So I went along to talk to June and Steve to find out more. June explained "the prime Icelandic Cod is skinless and boneless the best chunky fish fillets cooked fresh for each order. Also we use only high grade sunflower seed oil making your fish and chips vertically cholesterol free". So what about the chips I asked "Chips are not just chips you can find all sorts of chips around thin, fat literally hundreds of types, we our proud of our chips at Rays 11 you get fresh potato chips not frozen and they are cooked fresh to perfection". The menu includes A very special offer of White Fillet Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas for only - 3.95€. Other special menus include 5.65€ with a choice of 7 desserts. because I had like most people who have been to Benidorm noticed that there are three Fish and Chip Restaurants called Rays. Rays 1 is in the Old Town and was the first Rays Chippy in Benidorm but is not the same owners as Rays 11. The original Rays team together with June and Steve included the three restaurants until they made them independent. June and Steve are the owners of Rays 11 and you can easily find them just behind EuroTabaco on the main Avenida Mediterraneo in the Rincon only one street back from the beach front. You can stop by at Rays for snacks, sandwiches & filled rolls and its not just Fish and Chips there are other menu choices that include Liver & Onions, Homemade Faggots, Homemade Pies, Steak and Kidney Puddings, Burgers, Sausages, Fish Fingers, Fresh Salads with Coleslaw, Chilli Con Carne and many more home cooked specials.

There are so many choices its amazing and something for everyone which is great if your in a group or as a family. Rays ll are famous for the quality of the fish so for me I had to try it, the choise from Haddock or Cod served with bread & butter mushy peas tea or coffee or a larger shandy for only 7.95€ I thought was extremely good value. The batter was golden and crispy and when cutting through to the chunky white fillet you could see how soft and tender the fish was. It taste amazing and together with the mushy peas and delicious chunky chips I was appreciating every moment. The portion size was generous in fact I had no space for a dessert although I had noticed that the menu has a

TaPaS in THe oLd ToWn

It is essentially a style of eating rather than a form of cooking. Tapas mean sociability, friends and family. The Spanish, in general, won’t drink without eating something as well. Happy hour in Spain is not a half price drink hour. It’s a time when you can have a free small tapa with every drink ordered. Not all bars participate in this modern custom but it is certainly becoming more popular. Many cuisines offer foods meant to awaken the appetite. Antipasti, hors d’oeuvres and mezes are among countless names of dishes typically eaten just before a meal. In some trendy restaurants they turn an assortment of small dishes into the main

meal itself. In Spain, however, eating tapas is a separate dining experience. In fact, the term tapas and its various regional equivalents have come to imply the act of going out bar hopping, or the art of eating while standing. After completing the first round of lively conversation and small plates, the group moves on to the next bar, often only footsteps away. There is no end to the variety of tapas available. Every village, town or city has their own variety of small bites of Spanish flavours. Some of these tapas are common to all districts. Even if the name is slightly different, the recipe will be the same.

moorS and CHriSTian FeSTiVaL in aLTea Moors and Christian (Moros y Cristianos) Festivals are held in many towns and cities throughout Spain but most predominantly in the southern Valencian Community. The festivals commemorate the battles which took place for the control of Spain during the period known as Reconquista (from the 8th to the 15th century). One of these festivals on the Costa Blanca is that held at the end of September in Altea. This picturesque town is an easy drive north of Benidorm, around 10 minutes along the N332. You can park in the new part of town and walk up to the winding, white-washed streets of the old picturesque village.

celebrations get started a week before hand, and the festival runs through until Tuesday 30th September. Sunday is the main day of celebration but there are activities going on throughout the weekend. The 23rd and the 24th are local bank holidays. The ‘opposing forces’ of “Christians” and “Moors” (Moslems) parade through the streets dressed in impressive costumes, painstakingly created for the occasion. The costumes of the “Christians” comprise fur, leather and armour while the “Moors” wear Arabic-style clothes with swirling scimitars and axes. All accompanied by marching bands playing rousing music reminiscent of the period. (Play the video for an example).

The festival starts on Saturday 27th September although some Mock battles then ensue and everyone has a great time although the ending is of course the same each year! As you might expect, just like any Spanish Fiesta worthy of the name, there is food, wine

GUardamar deL SeGUra

This popular town is renowned for its many kilometres of fine sandy beaches. It has a busy high street full of all kinds of shops as well as a busy market to keep even the most dedicated shoppers happy. The Reina Sofia Park is a great place for the children with its floodlit play area and the nearby children's funfair and night market (both summer only) make for a good evening out. Don't forget to stop at the marina or visit the tourist office to find out more about Guardamar and to book yourself on the tourist train.

SPaniSH ProPerTY PriCeS riSe For FirST Time in Six YearS The upbeat data was issued Monday as Spain's finance minister gave a tentative projection of higher growth for the Spanish economy, which emerged a year ago from its second recession in five years. Spain's national statistics institute said sec-

ond-quarter housing prices had increased 0.8% on the year, compared with a 1.6% drop in annual terms in the first quarter. On a quarterly basis housing prices rose 1.7% over their level during the first three months of the year, the institute said. The increases can be read as the strongest signal yet that the collapse of real-estate prices that began in 2008 has bottomed out, but not as evidence of a recovery, said Beatriz Toribio, head of research at Fotocasa. "What we see is a trend towards price stabilization," she said. "But the property market is definitely not in a broad-based rebound." Housing prices have declined 35% in Spain as a whole over the past six years. The economy has been gaining traction since it emerged

from a nine-quarter-long recession in the second half of last year, triggering more appetite for Spanish assets such as property.

France and Italy registered slumps in output.

But Ms. Toribio said domestic demand for housing in Spain is still flimsy, as many would-be Spanish buyers lack jobs and cash reserves and wouldn't qualify for mortgages. That leaves foreign investors leading the demand for housing and stronger price rebounds in areas where they focus their interest, she said. Those areas include central districts of Madrid and Barcelona and parts of the southern Mediterranean coast. Spain's economy was one of the best performers in the eurozone in the second quarter, even as major trading partners such as

On Monday, Finance Minister Luis de Guindos said the government is planning to raise its 1.2% growth projection for the year and its 1.8% projections for 2015.

Barclays Bank has agreed to sell part of its Spanish business for ÂŁ633m to the country's third largest lender CaixaBank. The sale includes Barclays' retail, wealth management and corporate banking business in Spain. In a statement, Caixa said the deal involved 270 branches and approximately 555,000 new clients. Barclays is reorganising its business by cutting jobs and selling off parts of its European operations.

In May, it announced plans to cut 19,000 jobs by 2016, of which 9,000 will be in the UK, as well as to create a "bad bank", which included its retail banking operations in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France.

The idea behind the "bad bank" was to group together businesses no longer considered central to Barclays, with a view to selling them off or listing them on the stock market. "We were clear [in our update in May] that this business, while not central to Barclays' strategy, could be attractive to another owner - and today's announcement reflects that perspective," said Antony Jenkins, chief executive of Barclays. "Under the ownership of CaixaBank, a leader in retail banking in Spain, these businesses will have a greater opportunity to grow and thrive," he continued. The deal does not include Barclays' Spanish credit card operations or its investment banking business. "This acquisition will enable us to enhance our personal and private banking businesses in Spain, strengthening our counselling offer to our customers," said the chief executive of CaixaBank Gonzalo Gortazar.

ProPerTY + YoUr WeekLY GUide To ProPerT in THe CoSTaS Good News for the Brits and non Spaniards inheriting Property in Spain The European Court of Justice ruled against Spain on Wednesday in a case that could reduce the amount of inheritance tax the country can charge foreigners living in Spain, currently higher than that charged Spaniards.

cent fall in the first quarter, the first annual rise in six years, data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Monday. The indicator is the latest sign of the country's economic recovery.

More than 12 percent of Spain's total population were born elsewhere, one of the highest percentage of foreign residents in European Union countries, with most from Romania, Morocco and Britain.

House prices plummeted in Spain after the bursting of a decade-long property bubble. House prices last rose year-on-year in the first quarter of 2008, according to the INE data.

The court said Spanish legislation was discriminatory and there was no reason why inheritance tax should be charged at a higher rate for non-Spaniards than for Spaniards.

The prices of newly built houses rose most, up 1.9 percent, while "secondhand" houses rose 0.2 percent, the highest increase since the fourth quarter of 2007.

The European Commission referred the case to the court in 2012 after considering that the legislation was incompatible with free circulation of people and money within the EU.

Earlier this month data from real estate website Fotocasa.es showed a monthly increase of 1 percent, the largest rise in eight years.

The law applies different rates of taxation to inheritances or gifts of property in Spain depending on whether the recipient is Spanish. While national legislation makes no specific distinction based on residency, inheritance tax rates for Spanish residents are regulated at a regional level.

Fotocasa, which is considered to offer more up-to-date information than INE, said house prices have fallen 43.9 percent since they hit a peak of 2.952 euros per square metre in April 2007. do YoU WanTTo bUY a ProPerTY Here in SPain?

“Fantastic ” reviewed 29 august 2014 Great location & food is by far best Indian in Benidorm. The nan breads are top notch. Reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

“Lovely meal... Strange desserts” reviewed 9 august 2014 Went here with friends during our stay as we were craving a nice Indian curry! The starter and main was very nice and we ended up going here twice in the time that we stayed. The only issue is that we ordered ice cream and raspberry sauce and we ended up with something that looked and tasted like mashed potatoes with coffee poured over it!

“lovely” reviewed 29 July 2014 Went here for an Indian meal.. treated like royalty and the food was amazing xx Will be back here next year

“Yet another great meal.. :-)” reviewed 19 July 2014 My husband & I found this wee gem last year, while on holiday with our family.. We all thought the food was outstanding (specially the chicken cheese tikka) & the staff were most welcoming.. We found this restaurant, very authentic & clean.. Visited this restaurant again at the beginning of July this year & again, it didn't disappoint.. In fact, the manager recognised us from last year.. Same staff, same excellent food.. Would certainly recommend others to try this wee gem.. You won't be disappointed..

“Food and service was excellent!” reviewed 2 august 2014 We stayed at the Halley apartments for 2 weeks and for the majority of our stay we ate in this bar. The food and portion sizes were excellent and the service was brilliant. All staff were very polite and friendly! I would highly recommend their Chicken curry! It is now closed until the 16th August which I think they should have waited until later in the year but I would highly recommend this place when staying in Benidorm.

“Fantastic callum lucy”

“excellent salad!”

reviewed 17 august 2014 We have been coming to this bar for years, steve & christine are the nicest and friendly people you could meet. Their food is to die for, all fresh and homemade, I can recommend all of it. There drink prices are also good, if you are in benidorm pop in you wont be disappointed

reviewed 2 September 2014 We ate here one night and I ordered the chicken and goat's cheese salad which was one of the best salads I have ever had! My husband's burger was very good and the chicken satay from the children's menu was excellent. The service was a little slow, there was no drinks menu and when we ordered bread we were told they had run out, but overall the food was very good and reasonably priced.

“Lovely breakfast ”” reviewed 16 august 2014 The Geordie Pride serves a lovely breakfast at a reasonable price. Staff are helpful and pleasant. What more could you want after a night out in Benidorm.

“Simply superb” reviewed 22 July 2014 Been here a few times in Benidorm now and I kept making concerted efforts to come back! The Scottish breakfast is superb and the best I have had in the town (and I've tried a few). Lovely friendly staff. It's a small place but you can sit either in and out and enjoy yourself. This place restored my faith in Benidorm food after visits to atrocious places like John and Josephs. Definetely worth the effort to eat here. Note they close on a Wednesday.

“british food abroad”

reviewed 27 may 2014 When you're homesick for some home British food, this is the place to go. Lovely food, cheap prices and the welcome is as warm as the weather! All in all a lovely little place to eat. Will definately be calling in when I return to Benidorm

“Great again !!” reviewed 15 august 2014 I have been coming to Albir and Small World for years , the menu may not change but neither does the quality of the food or service . Try the chicken sate and grandmas poffertjes you wont be dissapointed.

“Wonderful dutch-owned cafe” We really enjoyed the satay at this lovely restaurant. It was referred to us by one of the staff at Marco Polo Expeditions.

“kids love it and so do we” reviewed 22 July 2014 Good food and great atmosphere! Special arrangements for kids and friendly staff. Not the best steak, but lovely pastas, pancakes and more!

“out of this world”

reviewed 23 June 2014 we went here last week for a meal and the food is out of this “best home cooked food in benidorm” would i had the chicken on stick in peanut sate sauce and omg reviewed 27 april 2014 it was amazing my hubby had stake and that was perfectly The place to go if you want home cooked food and great done. the stuff are so welcoming and nice and the restaurant its friendly relaxing atmosphere. Health & Family Confusion...... GeriaTriC Sex and SexUaLLY it’s not always the first sign TranSmiTTed inFeCTionS of dementia!

24

Confusion is a symptom which has many causes. We can all relate to having episodes of ‘confusion’ such as going upstairs only to find that we have no idea what we are doing up there or being unable to remember a word that we really should know or somebody’s name! However, true confusion that has a medical cause can be very distressing for the confused person themselves and those around this person.Symptoms of confusion can vary from mild to severe and include:-disorganised thoughts-disorientation-problems making decisions-difficulty concentrating-problems performing tasks-unusual aggression-inability to recognize familiar objects or people Depending upon the cause, Confusion may develop suddenly or gradually over a long period of time. When an older person shows symptoms of confusion, family, friends and often the person themselves assume that the cause is dementia. The affected person will often resist visiting the Doctor for fear that dementia will be confirmed. Many people are unaware that confusion may have a simple treatable cause such as a urinary tract infection or vitamin B12 deficiency! Once treated, the person will return to his or her normal self again Other causes include: - Fluid and electrolyte imbalance

Figures published by the Health Protection Agency, have shown a rise in people in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s having sex with new partners over the last 10 years. More and more people are going into new relationships following divorce or the loss of a spouse. Also, before the days of drugs to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence), the older generation, who are most likely to suffer with erectile dysfunction, simply lost their sex life. There are many facts and theories as to why older people are enjoying such sexual freedom and good for them, sex is a healthy activity! However (isn’t there always a ́however`?!) This sexual freedom has caused a sharp rise in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in older people.

• Almost 3 in 10 respondents (28%) said they had sex at least once a week, including almost half of those who were single but had a regular partner, and 36% of those who were married. • 85% of men and 61% of women said sex was important to their quality of life. • Just 12% of single men who were dating and 32% of single women who were dating reported always using condoms during sex in 2009.

Figures showed that: ● The 45 to 64 year-old age group saw the biggest rise in syphilis, herpes, chlamydia and genital warts between 2000 and 2009 ● They also saw the second-biggest rise in gonorrhea cases, exceeded only by the over 65s! ● Cases of syphilis in 45 to 64 year-olds rose ten-fold from 52 in 2000 to 503 in 2009. ● In the over 65s, cases of syphilis more than quadrupled from just 7 in 2000 to 32 ● Gonorrhoea fell in all age groups between 2000 and 2009 except for the over 45s. a 2010 survey called “Sex, romance, and relationships,” interviewed middle-aged and older people about their sex lives and found that:

- Deficiencies such as B12, thiamine, niacin, Vitamin C - Infections including urine and chest infections - Low blood sugar levels - Medications - Hypothermia - Hypoxia (low levels of oxygen ) - Sleep deprivation - Fever - Illness in the elderly - Illness combined with neurological disease - Seizures - Head injury - Concussion - Alcohol excess - Brain tumours If you are concerned about a person who seems confused or even concerned about yourself, seek help promptly from your Family Doctor.

UmbiLiCaL HerniaS

A hernia occurs when an inside part of the body ‘pops’ through a weakness in surrounding tissue or muscle. Umbilical hernias (near the naval or ‘belly button’) occur in 10% of infants and young children. They are especially common in babies who are born prematurely. What causes an umbilical hernia?During pregnancy, the umbilical cord passes through an opening in the baby's abdominal wall. This opening should close before birth, but in some cases the muscles do not seal completely. This leaves a weak spot in the surrounding muscle wall (abdominal wall). An umbilical hernia can develop when fatty tissue or a part of the bowel pokes through. It appears as a lump that may get bigger when the child laughs, coughs, cries or goes to the toilet. It may shrink when the child is relaxed or lying Fortunately for the infant, an umbilical hernia is not painful. In 85% of cases it goes back in and the muscles reseal before the child's first birthday. Should it not resolve by the time the child is 4 years surgery An umbilical hernia repair is a simple procedure performed under general anaesthetic (the

child will be asleep) where the bulge is put back into place. The weak spot is closed with stitches and if the hernia is large, mesh may be used to strengthen the area. After the operation, the bulge will disappear and the belly button should look normal. If the hernia was large, some excess skin may remain after the operation, but the child will usually ‘grow into it’.As with any

surgical procedure there are some risks but all will be explained by the surgeon prior to the operation. In about 1% of cases a small part of bowel can get stuck outside the abdomen. This can cause pain and vomiting, and could damage the child's bowel. In these cases, immediate surgery will be needed.Umbilical Hernias in Adults Occasionally an umbilical hernia can occur in adults. Contributing factors are being overweight, lifting heavy objects, a persistent cough or in cases of multiple pregnancy. Management is the same as with infants.

Are you taking medication? Are you a lover of grapefruit? If so, are you aware that grapefruit and grapefruit containing products and certain other citrus fruits can interact with a range of prescription and over the counter (OTC) medications? This interaction was discovered completely by accident when researchers were investigating whether alcohol interacted with the drug felodipine. The alcohol was mixed with grapefruit juice simply to mask the taste of alcohol for the study. Researchers discovered that blood levels of felodipine were increased several times compared to previous studies where no grapefruit juice was used. It is important to be aware if the drugs that you are taking are affected as some can cause potentially dangerous problems. Certain chemicals that grapefruit products and citrus fruits contain can interfere with the enzyme CYP3A4 that breaks down various medications in your digestive system. This can lead to a dangerous build up of the drug causing overdose and serious side effects. The compounds thought to cause this problem are called Foranocoumarins and can block digestive enzymes in excess of 24 hours meaning that grapefruit must be completely avoided . Pomelos and Seville oranges, a type of bitter orange often used to make marmalades and compotes, may have a similar effect . The majority of medications do not interact with grapefruit juice. However, grapefruit juice does have an effect on more than 50 different drugs.

If you are being treated for anyof the following conditions, check with your Doctor or Pharmacist to find out it is safe for you to consume grapefruit or other citrus fruits • Abnormal heart rhythm # • Allergies • Anxiety • Asthma and COPD • Blood clots • BPH (enlarged prostate) • Cancer • Cough • Depression • Epilepsy • Erectile dysfunction • Heart disease • High blood pressure • High cholesterol • HIV/AIDS • Hormonal conditions • Infection-viral, bacterial and fungal • Pain

CHiLdHood obeSiTY THe SHoCkinG FaCTS Like children’s waistlines, the problem of childhood obesity is getting BIGGER AND BIGGER!!! Facts from the most recent large scale survey in the U.K. reveal that: • 25% of boys and 33% of girls aged between two and 19 years are overweight or obese • Obesity currently costs the country around £2 billion annually • Obesity shortens child’s lives by nine years, due to the associated health probems. Some health experts even believe we’ll soon see parents outliving their children. Health risks associated with childhood obesity include heart disease, high blood pressure (certain studies show that overweight teenagers were eight and a half times more likely to develop high blood pressure and almost 2 and a half times as likely to have high blood cholesterol levels), certain cancers, joint problems, psychological problems and diabetes. Diabetes UK believes there are currently around 100 children with the condition, although some experts believe the figure could be as high as 1,400 based on the number of

overweight a n d obese schoolchildren there are in the UK. Experts relate t h i s solely to t h e increase in childh o o d obesity . One of t h e biggest concerns is that parents are getting so used to seeing overweight children they don’t recognise their own children are obese. Unfortunately, there’s no mystery as to why children are getting so fat:• Poor diet containing too much fat, salt, junk food etc. and too little fresh fruit and vegetables • Lack of exercise, computer based activities being the favourite pastime of most children. Unfortunately for some, problems start early in life. A survey by Mother & Baby magazine revealed that nine out of 10 toddlers eat junk food, with chocolate, biscuits, crisps, fish fingers, chips, cake and chicken nuggets appearing in their top 10 favourite foods. In an attempt to stem the problem of childhood obesity the most important thing is to encourage eating habits from an early age.

If you allow yourself to be inundated with fairly low key tasks today, it could hamper your efforts in doing what pleases you most. The lunar low isn't helping, so don't feel bad about letting others take the strain. You'll do the same for them when the time comes. Libra (September 24th-october 23rd) Success this week is all about staying focused and keeping things sharp. It's time to finally come to terms with old issues from the past, so stand and face them once and for all and you'll move ahead lighter and brighter. Everyone deserves a second chance. SCorPio (october 24th-november 22nd) It's your strength and sheer determination that will get you through setbacks and hurdles this week, be they over work or love. You'll see home and hearth as a safe vantage point and a refuge from the pressures of the outside world. You've a lot to be thankful for. SaGiTTariUS (november 23rd-december 21st) A sudden lack of confidence rocks you on your heels, but once you realise it's a storm in a teacup, and quite temporary, you'll bounce back quickly and will move ahead with strength and determination. You're working hard to get what you want, and fate will be kind. CaPriCorn (december 22nd-January 20th) Relationships and friendships seem to take on a new depth and intensity this week, but maybe that's a good thing as you'll be able to broach subjects you were wary of even mentioning in the past. Time to lay old ghosts to rest, then its onwards and upwards. aQUariUS (January 21st-February 19th) There seems to be a fair amount of restrictions over your movements this week, and this will irritate and annoy you no end. Talking to others has never been a problem for you, so use this eloquence to get you what you want over love money or work. PiSCeS (February 20th-march 20th) Things finally seem to be slotting into place at last. Your finances are stable and growing bit by bit, work matters seem to have stabilised, and love and romance is going along exciting new avenues. You cant believe your luck. Its true, you know, so enjoy.

ToP 5 TaTToo STYLeS Before you head to the tattoo shop, spend some time going over popular types of tattoo art styles to ensure you pick a tattoo design that fits your personal preferences and taste. While you may not know which tattoo style you fancy, the more you explore art techniques you're bound to see a bit of pattern in your interests. Treat your body like you would any other form of fine art and be sure you explore all different art stles and interpretations before you make a permanent mark. While tribal and old school tattoos are some of the more popular forms, black and grey portraits tattoos are a timeless choice if you like fine details. Once you've narrowed down your art style, you can begin to find an artist who specializes in that type of tattooing. From there you can explore design ideas to further enhance your body piece and enrich its meaning. 1. Fine line black and grey Fine line black and grey tattoos originated in the Chicano communities of East LA during the 1970s. The use of a single-needle created fine lines with smooth and subtle shading in varied shades of black and grey. Once infamous amongst prison mates, today these artsy sketches include roses, memorial and portrait pieces. 2. biomechanical For the hardcore sci-fi or industrial types, biomechanical tattoos are a tough choice. Paired with ripped apart flesh or robotic parts, these types of tattoos look best when placed on muscled parts of the body. Think of your legs, arms, or even a neck tattoo, and then get inspired by fantastical machinery for a tattoo design. You may choose to draw the design yourself-or shop around for a skilled biomechanical tattoo artist.

3. asian Loved throughout the world for their colorful and graceful beauty and designs, Asian tattoos include language symbols to full body art depictions of koi fish, cherry blossom tattoos and dragon and tiger tattoos. Geisha women are yet another popular tattoo design if you want to honor the pinups of the Eastern world. 4. Tribal Depicting rich culture and meaning from Native American history, tribal tattoos became a very popular armband piece in the 1990s and lost much of their significance in the process. True tribal tattoos tattooing practices are often considered rites of passage and may involve monks, blessings, and more painful hand-poked tattooing methods. Rich in spiritual meaning, tribal tattoos mark one part of life to the next. 5. Traditional old School Traditional and old school tattoos are often used interchangeably and their designs include eagle tattoos, pin-up girls, ships and anchors. From memorial pieces to love and glory tattoos, one of the most popular artists that specialized in creating this type of tattoo style is Norman Keith Collins, also known as Sailor Jerry. You can read more about Sailor Jerry and explore the history of old school tattoos here.

aLFaZ FanTaSY FooTbaLL LeaGUe sponsored by Just when you think it's safe to play Fantasy Football along comes a couple of England games to spoil our Weekend. After a poor World Cup campaign lets hope for a successful European Championship performance. The break gives us a chance to look back at this Season's Fantasy so far. There was a lot of activity before the Transfer Window closed especially if you were a Manchester United Fan. Unfortunately most of their signings came to late for our Fantasy Managers to include them in their Teams.Don't forget if one of your Players moved from one Premier League club to another such has Danny Welbeck it doesn't effect the points gained so far in the Fantasy because he has stayed in the Premier League. Two Teams have had the privilege of topping the Fantasy and they are Terry's Cisne Jacks City and Jarrod's We R Leeds. The U.K.T.V. Spain Junior League has also had Teams at the top Rocky's Mini Spurs for 2 Weeks and the present Leaders Bradley's Team Killers 2000.(where do these young uns get the names from ). Jarrod's Team We R Leeds are also top of our Golden Boot League which is sponsored by Leonard Knowles Construction they took over the top spot from Mike's Team The Shed. The previous Week Neil's Team 7 Palms Playa Poniente was in pole position. Our Mark Carter Ladies Section is normally a very competitive League and this Year is no acception with Pauline's Vodka Army leading the way with a 9 point advantage over Rachel's Team Blue Murder. Our first Winner of our Premier Imports Draw for August is Wyn whose Team Wyndhams "B " was 1st out of the Hat. He's a lucky devil he won a case of wine last Season. Shame he is a Chelsea Fan ! One of the biggest problems this Season for our Fantasy Managers was who would Jose Mourinho chose between Cech and Courtios, well in the end he came down on the side of Courtois which I think was the right decision . Most Fantasy Managers steered clear of the problem which

meant only 15 selected Courtois and only 7 picked Cech. The most selected Goalkeeper was Manchester United's David De Degea with 50 votes 1 infront of Everton's Tim Howard who has had a dreadful start to the Season scoring a minus 6 so far.Top Keeper up to now is Hull's McGregor who has already saved a Penalty and kept a clean sheet. Keith West was the only Manager with the nous to select this Player. Most selected Defender for the 2nd Season running is Everton's Leighton Baines with no fewer than 77 Managers picking Him. Chelsea's Gary Cahill was the 2nd most selected with 56 votes. Manchester United's Juan Mata gained the most votes in Midfield with 59 Managers fancying him (can't see it myself ). Liverpool's in form Raheem Sterling came 2nd to the Spanish Maestro with 57 picks. It will be interesting to see how Liverpool Players respond this Season with more pressure on them to do well. The most selected Player this Season is Chelsea's new signing Diego Costa with 95 selections,Wayne Rooney is nearest one to him with 87 votes. Diego hasn't let anybody down yet with 21 points to his name joint top forward with Everton's underated Steven Naismith both on 21 points one behind the highest scorer so far Chelsea's Ivanovic who had 20 managers on his side. Overall it's been a reasonable start to the Season with 81 goals flying into the back of the net in the 30 games played in he Premier League. We have had 15 clean sheets and 103 yellow cards,9 more than last Year and 5 red ones.Last Year we had 9 penalties at this stage last Season but this time only 4 in 30 games.Your not telling me that in 30 matches only 4 fouls have been in the penalty area. Behave! Well that's just a summary of the Fantasy League so far.I'm sure there will be a lot more action after this International Break.

Good Week baLe-d oUT

Gareth bale proved to be the key man for Wales, helping them come from behind to beat andorra, who took a shock lead within five minutes. bale twice found the back of the net in his country's first european Qualifier, coupling a neat header with a deft free kick to help his team claim a muchneeded win against the team ranked 199th in the world. ian rush praised Gareth bale's performance against andorra, but says Wales are too reliant on the real madrid man. “He was absolutely fantastic,” the former Liverpool striker told Sky Sports, “i don’t think anyone else in the world could have done what he did tonight.”

bad Week ConCern For ramSeY

aaron ramsey is an injury concern for arsenal after hobbling off towards the end of Wales’ victory in andorra. The midfielder, 23, was substituted in the 89th minute after a knock to his ankle, which will be assessed on Wednesday ahead of arsenal's clash with manchester City on Saturday. Wales boss Chris Coleman said after his side won 2-1 in their opening european Qualifier: “aaron got a kick and there was a twist in his ankle. ramsey has been in devastating form already this season, with two goals in three Premier League games, and he was influential on Tuesday as Gareth bale scored twice to give Wales all three points on the iberian peninsula.

Sir Bobby Charlton is confident that Louis van Gaal will soon be presiding over a successful Manchester United team, describing the current campaign as ‘a great adventure.’ United entertain Queens Park Rangers on Sunday desperate to claim their first competitive victory of the season. The club’s most recent highprofile summer signings – Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao – could all make their home debuts this weekend and Charlton is feeling upbeat. Speaking at a conference for football’s global leaders, Charlton said: “It seems strange that Manchester United is not involved in European football for a season. “It’s crazy but maybe it can make things easier for us. We have started with some new players, we have not been playing well but we will play well.“I think that it’s going to be a great adventure of how we pull ourselves back around and get back to the way it used to be.” As for new manager Van Gaal, he added: “He has given me and most of us fans some good news and it is good news. “We won’t struggle, definitely, we won’t struggle anymore. We are set fair. "It is just such a strange environment the way that it’s all happened, that Manchester United is out of the news, but it won’t be for very long.”

Lewis Hamilton made a very big statement about his championship intentions in monza by dominating nico rosberg in both qualifying and the race. His poor start was confirmed by the team as a pure car problem, but this was one of those calm and happy weekends for Lewis and so he simply refocused and got on with the job for the rest of the race. His racer's instinct clinched it by politely ignoring a team radio proposal to hang loose in his teammate's slipstream for a while, far enough behind to pick up a tow and presumably save fuel, while not close enough to slide around in turbulent air and damage his tyres or overheat the engine, and then attack at the end. Instead he used the grip of the fresh hard compound tyres to attack and shortly afterwards, as Rosberg faltered for the second time on the brakes into turn one, Hamilton took an easy and commanding lead. His response was simply and effectively 'let my team mate choke on the fumes' Some inevitably suggested Rosberg did it on purpose as part of the post Spa 'deal'. I've only ever known drivers yield like that by pulling over on the pit straight, hand aloft, so that the whole world knows what happened. I can't really see why he'd make himself look silly with intentional errors to give up a 14point turnaround in the championship battle. Three of the remaining six races traditionally throw up a few challenges the lengthy Singapore race, spectacular Suzuka, and the often crazy Interlagos in Brazil. And Sochi is totally unknown. There's a very long way to go yet and reliability and the Abu Dhabi double points bonanza will affect it all too. It was another good race, particularly for Monza. In fact if we hadn't have had so many great races this season we may even have been raving about it. The great overtakes from Daniel Ricciardo, especially his trademark dummy into the second chicane, where thrilling in the closing

stages as he made the best of his fresh tyres having anonymously but smartly been looking after the initial set in this one-stop race. The side-byside action with Button and Perez pretty much everywhere but especially in the Lesmo corners even had the drivers buzzing with excitement. This new lenient stance from the Stewards has unleashed the drivers and they're much more inclined to have a go at overtaking. For this reason I would not have penalised Kevin Magnussen for his wheel to wheel action with Valtteri Bottas, but I can easily see why it was questioned as Bottas was effectively ahead at one point in the braking zone, although Magnussen has a right to release the brake a little and fight the corner. The Magnussen situation is interesting as he endeavours to establish himself as tough racer. He was rightly penalised for running Alonso out of space on the Kemmel straight in Spa, and he does have an unnerving habit of moving around the race track rather dramatically and sometimes a little late, but he's fighting for his career and his boss likes what he sees. Psychologically he's establishing the tough combat racer nicely but he needs to back it off a notch because the Stewards and the other drivers are onto him. Many of the cars were heavily discarding carbon dust off the front brakes throughout, especially the McLarens and Sergio Perez in the Force India. Daniil Kyvat lost his brakes near the end too and his avoidance driving was brilliant. I asked Jenson if he noticed this dust on track and the answer was very definitely yes, having just been cleaning his face and commenting that his balaclava and overalls were discoloured too. I was often concerned about this during my F1 and sports car days when looking like a coal miner after heavy braking races but I'm assured it's inert and luckily the balaclava and your inherent breathing system protection do a good job.

FanS raGe aT PoTenTiaL ConSPiraCY THeorieS Conspiracy theories dominated the back pages of monday’s papers following Lewis Hamilton’s comeback victory at the italian Grand Prix. Twice Nico Rosberg missed the first chicane at Monza, allowing Hamilton to take the lead of the race - and provoking uproar on social media. It was deliberate! Adding to the clamour, however, was the voice of three-time World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who said: “I thought it was a bit too easy. I thought he could have at least made an effort to get round the corner. I first thought, ‘That’s wise’, because he knew it wasn’t a difficult thing to believe; the second time I thought: ‘Hello what’s going on here?’”Conspiracy theorists flooded social media with suggestions that this was payback for the infamous collision in Belgium a fortnight ago caused by Rosberg.’However, dismissing the conspiracy theories he added: ‘It was a pity that such a crucial victory for Hamilton should be overshadowed yet again in a tumultuous season.’The TV camera caught Mercedes boss Toto Wolff smil-

ing on the pit wall. The cynics took this as a sign that he had ordered Rosberg to give way to make up for having crashed into Hamilton in the previous race in Spa, and was delighted to see the crafty plan carried out so adroitly. 'Why go to such lengths to fix the result when there are so many easier ways of doing it? They could have issued an order over the radio or fumbled a pit stop?

PoTenTiaL 2015 CaLendar Leaked A potential 2015 Formula 1 calendar has been leaked featuring 20 races and a return to Mexico for the first time since 1992. The draft, however, suggests that there will again be no place for India, which was supposedly set for an early season slot having been dropped at the end of 2013. If correct, the 2015 campaign would start in Melbourne as has been the case every year bar two since 1996, but once again there would be a two-week break between the race in Australia and the Malaysia GP. The British Grand Prix is set for its traditional slot on July 5, with Mexico’s return pencilled in

for October 25 as a back-to-back race with the United States Grand Prix in Texas. There is no mention of a second race in the States in New Jersey though. The Italian Grand Prix also keeps its early September slot despite speculation that the race at Monza could be axed. However, 1996 World Champion Damon Hill thinks the rumoured schedule will not cause too many headaches. “It is only one more than this year so it is manageable I think,” he added.

SCHUmi GoeS Home

The F1 champion suffered severe brain damage after hitting his head on a rock while skiing in the exclusive French ski resort of Meribel. He was immediately taken to the Grenoble University Hospital where he underwent two operations to remove haematomas from the brain and reduce swelling, before being transferred to the CHUV Hospital in Lausanne nearer to his home. Speaking publicly for the first time in over a month, Schumacher’s manager Sabine

Kehm confirmed that the seven-time Formula One world champion had returned home having made progress in the “past week and months.” “Henceforth, Michael’s rehabilitation will

take place at his home,” said Kehm. “Considering the severe injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.

W in n i n G Start england took their first step towards the 2016 european Championships in France with a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Switzerland in basel on monday. Danny Welbeck struck at either end of the second-half as England made a successful start to their Group E campaign. Captain Wayne Rooney was the catalyst in an excellent counter-attacking move which ended in Raheem Sterling sliding a precision ball towards the back post, where the on-rushing Welbeck made no mistake as he fired beyond Yann Sommer to break the deadlock on 59 minutes.
