Dear Readers

A welcome drop of rain was seen in most areas around Marina Baxia over the last couple of days, a chance to clear the air and reduce the humidity if the storm clouds would actually break, so far it's only a few drops of rain and a little more than just a down pour at the most. I actually noticed a few cooler nights in the last week but Sunday was for me a very muggy night and I was back to using the air con otherwise I’m sure I wouldn’t of had much sleep at all. It's the last Buzz of the month and yes already September 2014 comes close to an end and by next Wednesday I will be welcoming you into the first day of October and it will be exactly 12 weeks to Christmas Eve :( Sorry but it had to said "It will soon be Christmas" the favourite old saying that we all seem to hate because it means oh…my…Not again it only seems like yesterday and here we are shopping for gifts, deciding where we will be or who to invite this year. News From Page 1 Tourism has experienced continued growth and deeper diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. ‎Modern tourism is closely linked to development and includes more new destinations for tourists. These dynamics turned tourism into a key driver for socio-‎economic progress.‎ Tourism has become one of the major players in ‎international commerce, and represents at the same time one of the main income ‎sources for many developing countries. Tourism in Spain today is a major contributor to the national economic life contributing with 6.4% of Spain's GDP and ever since the 1960s and 1970s, when the country became a popular destination for winter holidays, especially with the tourists from the British Isles, Germany, France, Scandinavia, Italy and the Benelux. Spain has held strong position in world's tourism, being among the largest markets for holidays. In 2007, Spain became the second most visited country in the world after France. That year, almost 60 million foreign visitors came to visit Spain, according to the World Tourism Organization, which has its headquarters in Madrid. Last year we celebrated World Tourism day along Calle Gerona which was organised by the Marina Hotel, the town hall closed off the street and there was music and entertainment

into the early hours, there was also a GIANT Paella for all to enjoy at no cost. This year we will be celebrating World Tourism day in the Heart of Benidorm’s Old Town as we celebrate a gastronic delight, the Tapas, for full information see our Old Town pages on 14 and 15. There we also be a charity fair held at El Cisne Rastro see the poster on page 13. Benidorm is the hub of tourism not just in Alicante but the whole of the Costa Blanca, it still relies heavily on the British tourist trade but now as the years go by Benidorm and the surrounding towns and villages are filling up with a thriving international community with many holiday makers and also expats coming from Holland, Germany, France, Russia, Romania,Italy and many more! What also makes Benidorm one of the best places to visit is the range of things to see and do with some of the best beaches in the Costa Blanca along with the theme and water parks, including a zoo, theres golf resorts alongside some of the best hotels in Spain. Benidorm also has fantastic connections to all nearby towns and those a bit further away such as Valencia, although this isnt it for Benidorm with so much potential it is continuously expanding and over the coming decades will have even more on offer.

NEWS FREE TOURS SHUTDOWN

BENNIDORM town hall have decided on new regulations in regards to touting and free tours onthe towns streets. This comes after more pressure ont he town hall from official tour operators and tourism companies some of which offer free tours but in a safe enviroment with authorised guides. It may come as common sense to most of us but make sure you go to a travel shop or official operator and don’t have you arm twisted by a so called guide hanging on the street corner, these people may have accomplises in the group that will be looking for prime oppertunities to pick your pocket and if that isnt enoughthey generally end the tour with very high pressure sales, no matter what they tell you if it sounds too good to be true , well it probably is! The new regultions stops the advertising, circulation and operations of these unautorised tours. A minor offence such as distributing leafllets and flyers for the

tours comes with a fine of a maximum of 750 euros with the more serious offence carries a maximum fine of up to 1500 euros. If caught the offenders will also have their details passed on to the tax and social security offices by the authorities as it is extremly common for these people to be working cash in hand and known to be commiting similar offences, companies will of course be investigated for offences such as tax fraud and evasion.

BENIDORM THANKS MONARCH TRAVEL GROUP The councillor for Tourism in Benidorm, Gema Amor, has announced the protagonists of the Tourism Awards 'Ciudad de Benidorm 2014' , a distinction that is part of the celebration of the World Tourism Day, which will be presented on September 27. In the international category the award is for the Monarch Group, airlines and tour operators, "a British company that for decades has chosen our destination and we want to thank for it." The councillor stressed that the Foundation Visit Benidorm and the department of Tourism has prepared a program of activities to celebrate the World Tourism Day on September 27. The president of Hosbec, Antonio Mayor, has praised the importance of Benidorm on the

World Tourism Day, because "it is a unique city that has given us an absolute role in all media, thanks to its tourism and urban model and when people think of tourism think about Benidorm as a prototype and unique city. "

LYNN BRINGS A BIT MORE SUNSHINE TO BENIDORM BENIDORM is normally known for fun and frivolity but North shopkeeper Lynn Mcdearmid has turned her hand to a more serious Spanish side-line. Lynn found a new line of work selling wigs when moving to Spain but noticed when taking on her new business she could do something more so grew her business and reaches out to cancer and alopecia sufferers in the Benidorm and surrounding areas. Lynn moved to Benidorm 6 years ago with sons Kristopher and Callum after running a bakery in Hartlepool for almost 20 years. She was then put in touch with an elderly woman who was running a wig shop and was looking for a Spanish speaker to help her. She said “I first came to Spain with the family and we loved it and decided to look for work. We moved to Benidorm and just stayed here. “The lady who ran the wig shop was very-old fashioned and I decided to take on the business myself when she moved back to the Isle of Man “I did everything I could to take it into the 21st Century and make it more modern. It was only a small business back then but because I could speak Spanish I was able to spread the word.” Among her networking efforts in the Costa Blanca she went on trips to local hospitals where she realised she could help people – particularly women – cope with hair loss as a result of chemotherapy treatments and baldness conditions. Lynn said. I loved working with wigs straight away. I wish I could have done it all my life”. “I like to help people. I cry most days but it is really happy too when customers come back and have funny stories and even better, have recovered. Thankfully I haven’t lost many of my customers and I hope that continues to be the case. “It is very rewarding. Young girls might come

into the shop with alopecia and have no selfconfidence, but a wig can give them that back. It is incredible what a difference a wig can make. A woman does not want to go out with no hair. Rarely do I get men here.” Wigs R US is based in Benidorm’s Indoor Market and also attracts a different clientele. “ It is really hot here for people on holiday and sometime they cannot be bothered doing their hair for an evening so they buy a wig and all they have to do is shake it and put it on” Lynn added

MOTHER TO SUE FOR BABY'S DEATH THE mother of a baby who died at Alicante airport on the carousel is taking legal action. The woman, who was holidaying with her family from America, had put her five-month-old daughter, in the car seat on the stationery conveyor belt, when the weight caused the carousel to start moving. The infant died from injuries after falling between a gap in the two moving belt in September 2013. According to a US paper, the family are suing the Dutch company who supply luggage handling systems to airports. They are seeking damages for negligence, design defects and no proper warning meth-

ods. An enquiry into the incident confirmed that although the mother rushed to rescue her daughter within seconds, there was no hope of saving the child. Following the enquiry, the Government stated that the carousel had functioned correctly and the accident was the responsibility of the child’s mother.

EL ITALIANO

THE ITALIAN JOB

If you like to eat Italian then you will absolutely love this place, its Italian pure authenticity and homemade food includes the best tasting Pasta and Pizza you will experience anywhere. We went along to meet Vincenzo, Davide and the team and to taste their food and experience the ambiance of the open terrace restaurant in the heart of Benidorm's centre.

Our order consisted of a mixture of Pizzas, Pastas and Sirloin Steak, It was difficult to choose from such a fantastic menu but I couldn’t have been tempted away from the Pizza and Pasta not even for a juicy sirloin steak but we all had something different to try and the portion sizes were large enough for us all to sample what others had chosen much to my relief. Everything looked so good I was ecstatic to be able to taste the other menu choices, Italian food is my passion I can live on it and some people who know me say that have never met anyone else who loves Pizza and Pasta as much as I do. One of my favourite pasta dishes if cooked correctly is Spaghetti Carbonara, the problem when eating out in restaurants is that unless you know the method of cooking and what the ingredients are you are often faced with a dish that simply does not live up to ones expectations. Carbonara sauce can be made so many different ways but the correct ingredients are with Pancetta, Egg, Onion, Cream & Parmesan Cheese. To my delight this was exactly how the chefs at El Italiano prepare the sauce and the richness of the cheesy cream sauce was probably amongst the best I had ever tasted anywhere.

topped with Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Parma Ham, Rocket & fresh Parmesan. The crusty bread base was cooked to perfection and the toppings were a tasty combination. One of us had to eat from the grill and the El Italiano menu would not be complete without a choice of steaks and fish. The choice of meats that include chicken and ribs as well as steaks, which would of course be one of the most popular amongst the

Recent Reviews Sean D In the space of 14 days we went there 3 times. the food was cooked to perfection and its also a great location to people watch. The other pasta dish ordered was Fagottini stuffed with Cheese & Pear in Four Cheeses Sauce a modern stylish dish of filled pasta parcels. The combination of cheeses was extremely well balanced with the taste of the Pear. Together we shared a stone baked Pizza from the huge choice on offer, amongst the names of the Pizza’s included "Don Vincenzo" and "Daniele" the names of the brothers who own the restaurant. My choice was the "El Italiano" that was generously

Brits. I noticed that there were a number of tables arranged next to us that turned out to be a very well behaved Hen Party of 24, I also noticed that the food that was delivered to the table consisted of mainly steaks and meat dishes that all looked incredibly appetising. Fish being a favourite of Span and of course all Mediteranian countries, from the taste of Italy the fish options were Sole with Marnier sauce, Grilled Swordfish, Grilled Salmon and a Special dish of the Day. The team were all taken by the quality and presentation of the dishes and agreed that El Italiano would be their first choice and all would highly recommend the restaurant. Danielle, Vinchenzo, Davide and their team welcome our readers and have given all VISTA CARD holders 10% off the bill as well as some other fantastic special offers for May with "Kids Eat Free" & 50% off Pizzas on Thursday's.

Mr & Mrs Lawson we went once again after having good food last year and once again the food was lovely! my steak was cooked to perfection with a lot of flavour as were the other 3 meals our party had! will be definitely going back for another meal before we leave for England. THE BLUES BROTHERS EXPERIENCE The Blues Brothers Experience - Benidorm are fast becoming Benidorm’s most popular act. Indeed they are accumulating a fan base throughout the Costa Blanca and beyond, with a guaranteed full house at every show outside of the town and having already reached the point where they have declined work as far away as Madrid, France and the UK due to the commitments already in the diary. That’s quite an achievement considering the show didn´t exist just 9 months ago. Derek Blevins (54) (who performs solo as Dickie Ray), and David Young (27) only met in December 2013. Both had been performing solo shows around Benidorm for a few years. The Blues Brothers have possibly inspired the most tribute acts throughout the world with the exceptions of Elvis and Abba. It could be very easy to believe “if you´ve seen one you´ve seen them all”. Think again! This one is different...very different. The show is loved by all ages from very young kids to grandparents. All the rules governing a traditional Blues Brothers tribute have been thrown out. Derek told us “I felt that The Blues Brothers shows throughout the world have all become very similar. Most tribute shows are based around years of hits recorded by top artists. The Blues Brothers on the other hand is based around just two movies. For that reason all the others seem to be singing the same songs and performing the same comedy routines. It´s like watching the same play, just performed by a different cast.I felt it needed something new. My idea was to capture the essence of the much loved characters Jake and Elwood Blues and apply their “couldn´t care less” attitude to create a completely new show. Yes the old favourites such as Rawhide and Everybody Needs Somebody are still there, but there are always surprises, sometimes for us as well, as the audience are encouraged to be part of the show. Not just watch it. It´s not a show, it´s a party. ” Derek from Northern Ireland had been performing as a solo artist with a massive repertoire of songs covering almost every genre, having spent almost his entire life in music. Starting at the age of 3 he has performed in bands throughout Ireland after joining his first band at the age of just 14. David, a self-taught dancer from Scotland, had been performing throughout the summer in Benidorm as Michael Jackson and taking his show back to Scotland for the winter season. Tracy from Essex is the third member of the team. Working tirelessly in the background not only managing and promoting the show, but also on occasions makes an appearance on stage in the

role of Sister Mary. Fans of the movie will remember it was Sister Mary who initially sent the Blues Brothers on their “Mission from God”. Tracy can also be found at most shows taking candid photos of the audience as they join in with the show. A nice surprise for the audience when they learn their enjoyable evening has been captured on camera and the photographs are available and always free of charge. The show originated almost by accident. Derek teamed up with a friend in Benidorm to play the part of Jake Blues in an existing Blues Brothers show, initially standing in to cover a period of illness for the artist who normally played the part. It soon became obvious that the roll was going to be more permanent, however things changed when “Elwood” decided to move to Belgium. Derek was left with a show, which still had work in the diary and no Elwood. Derek, however, saw this as an opportunity to bring his own ideas into the show. Decided Elwood should be replaced by a professional dancer and contacted David in Scotland. Derek and David had never actually met, but Derek had admired his dancing abilities, having seen him perform in Benidorm throughout the previous summer seasons. David

loved the idea of trying something new and immediately flew back to Benidorm. From that point the two instantly gelled. David arrived in Benidorm on 23rd December and they performed their first show on 24th December, without a rehearsal. A member of the audience commented on that first night “it was a very polished show”. Something the guys still smile about today. Since then rehearsals have never been part of the daily work routine.

“The show is built around the audience and we can´t rehearse it when they´re not there”. So next time you see a sign for a Blue Brothers tribute show, look again. If it says The Blues Brothers Experience Benidorm. Then no, you haven´t seen it before. This is the one they are all talking about. You can catch the fun in Benidorm at Tropical Bar, Jokers, Heartbreak Hotel, The Med Playa Hotels, Riviera Music Lounge, Helios Hotel, Ambassador Hotel and Jail Rock. and for contact details For full details of times and shows, visit the Facebook page www.Facebook/The-Blues-Brothers-Experience

Fly Like A Bird Surely one of the things that man has always wanted to experience, is to feel the freedom of flying like a bird? Well this is possible with the super activity of Parasailing across the bays of Benidorm. The air of anticipation is really acute from the moment you step onto the specially designed boat. As it pulls away from the quay you are expertly and quickly fitted with safety harnesses. One fits snugly around the torso and another around your bottom, which effectively becomes your seat for the flight. The local experienced boat driv-

er, soon finds the best position offshore ready to release the parachute, which then fills with air and billows ready to lift you. Suddenly it's all systems go! You are secured to the lines while sitting comfortably on the deck and within seconds - 'whoosh' you're airborne! The rush of adrenaline at this point is just amazing and by the time you have overcome the initial thrill of the ascent, you begin to relax, aware that you really are flying. With a panoramic views of the whole town, the bays and the mountains spread out before you - and from as high as the iconic skyscrapers of Benidorm itself, you are now effectively at your

cruising altitude!. Just when you think, is that it? There comes an air of contented solitude and then the next unexpected sense that hits you is the silence - Really quite surreal! You can see your boat and the deep blue Mediterranean Sea way beneath you. You can see all the people busy on the beach and promenade. You can see everything, but you hear nothing. Except that is for the pounding of the air in the chute and your own stimulated thoughts echoing around inside your head powered by so many emotions. It's just a so wonderfully 'mad'. You are not only flying high, you are on one of the most natural 'highs' you will have ever experienced. After about 20 minutes of pure enjoyment alone or with your partner in the air, you are pulled slowly back to the boat for your gentle landing and indeed back to reality. Having said that, the reality actually takes a good few hours to kick in. The feelings of the flight and the whole trip that has blasted your senses, just lingers for hours. You will feel both liberated and elated and I for one would do it again tomorrow! - Oh why for once can't it be 'Groundhog Day' today! U3A MARINA BAIXA TREASURE HUNT The U3A Marina BAIXA Treasure Hunt has become an annual event much anticipated for an enjoyable evening. This is a wonderful way to discover things that are so easily missed on a normal visit to the interesting villages and towns in the area. 40 members of the U3A met in the municipal car park of Villajoyosa where the Thursday market is held. Rob Parker the Treasure hunt organiser gave the teams consisting of 2 members the 30 clues who were then dispatched at 2 minute intervals, this is the ploy to stop contestants from following other teams and using the clues they have discovered. It is a funny sight to see contestants suddenly looking at different things to put the other competitors off the fact they have discovered a clue. The evening concluded at the restaurant Bruguer in Villajoyosa run by Anna and Fernando who closed the bar in order to cater for the U3A diners. A sumptuous meal specially prepared for the group was served followed by Valor chocolates and coffee to finish of a wonderful warm evening. The results of the Treasure Hunt were announced and the evening produced 2 teams of winners Diedre and TJ Singh and Isabelle and Phil Roffe who had discovered 29 of the clues correctly. Thanks to Rob for all the hard work that he willingly puts into providing wonderful social occasions for the U3A Marina Baixa. For more information on the U3A Marina Baixa visit the website – www.u3amarinabaixa.com Facebook – U3A Marina Baixa. The General Meetings of the U3A Marina Baixa are held at the Social Centre Albir on the 4th Monday each month at 10.30am for 11.00am start. The next meeting will be on the 22nd September when the speaker will be Roger Massingham his subject Aspects of Spain. If you do not have internet access contact the secretary Joan Flint telephone 96 586 1226 – Mobile 663 637 167.

ALDI - NEW STORE OPENS

ALDI, one of Europe's largest food retailers opened another store in La Nucia last Wednesday 17th September. The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of the town Bernabé Cano, and the sales manager of ALDI Miguel Coloma. The opening day at the supermarket was extremely busy and customers were participating in the events and activities organised

to mark the occasion of the new opening. The new supermarket in La Nucia boasts 1,000 square metres and has 150 parking spaces. The store is located in the Avenida de Sorolla, and opens to the public Monday through to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:30 and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm. The Mayor proceeded to the formal ribbon cutting, and then were the speeches where the sales manager of ALDI highlighted the importance of this new store and expressed his confidence that it will be welcomed by the local residents of the area. Throughout the day numerous clients attended to shop and view the product range on offer and test the quality of the wide range of products. Shoppers were able to taste dishes prepared from ALDI products and you were invited to participate in the promotion events. The products available fall into many categories such as food and drink, pharmaceutical, hygiene and household items. More than 1,200 lines with everything that customers need for their daily consumption: fresh, packaged, regional, eco-friendly and always with a strong commitment to quality. ALDI aim for very high quality at the best prices. Aldi is a supermarket that states there are no offers, because it always offers the best price. Their product range is strong and

are from the highest quality that speaks for themselves. This new opening is part of the development plan of ALDI in the Valencian Community, where already he has 53 stores, 32 of them in the province of Alicante. The implementation of the shop of La Nucia, which has been financed with its own resources, will contribute to the economic revitalization of the town.

ALDI GOING NATURAL

To mark the celebration of the recent opening ALDI supermarket giants are makimg a dramatic impact for the sale of natural products. The recent opening of the ALDI store in Albir next to McDonalds N332 and also the new store that opened last week in La Nucia that was the 53rd store to open in the Valencia Community. The local press representatives were invited along to witness the event and also to experience the range of products on sale. A gift bag with a selection of natural products were handed out to us all as thanks for attending the opening event. The interest for me was to taste and experience the products so that I could tell the readers of the Weekly Buzz Newspaper all about it. The first product that I could recommend you try was the Natural Coffee “MARKUS", ground roasted 100% natural Arabic coffee that if you love the taste of coffee then you will love the superb aroma and flavour. The next trial product was a bio drink of soybean and rice, this product is an ideal replacement for milk and would suit anyone with allergy to lactose and dairy milk products. It is very nutritious and great for children and for healthy diets. We then had a snack bag of dried mixed nuts that contained Cashew nuts, Almonds, Walnuts and Hazelnuts. The tasty snack contained no additives or preservatives. Then our tastes were turned to a "Creme of Quince" a fruit jelly making an ideal accompaniment to any cheese, Jamoń or in general use for canapés (tapas) with a 55% fruit based jelly. My favourite taste came next, an Organic Red Wine made with a 100% organic Monastrell grape, fabulous with fish, red meat, salads and rice and pasta dishes. The wine is from DO JUMILLA ALTORANZA a certified producer of organic wines that eliminates any use of chemicals or pester-sides. The wine offers a dry smooth wine with a slight spice in the flavour. To taste with the wine we had a smooth natural Cheese called "VALBLANC" a creamy goat’s

cheese that is mild in flavour and goes well with a selection of biscuits. The next product was a glass jar containing tuna fish preserved in olive oil, there was also another fish product that was a tinned fillet of tuna in sunflower oil, and both of these products are ideal ingredients for salads, snacks and tapas. The final product was a jar pickled natural buds of white asparagus. Again this makes an ideal ingredient for the preparation of salads or canapés / tapas. For me this was the first time I had experienced the taste of natural products and could appreciate the reasons why now so many more people are using healthier natural product ideas. Having the choice is great and I would probably now after having the benefit of the tastes be able to use more of these natural products in my own home for the future. The ALDI supermarket chain now have 32 stores in the Alicante province in a bid to provide all local areas with the opportunity to shop locally. Both local stores in La Nucia and Albir are easily accessible from the N332.

TRAVEL AROUND

SELLA The ancient mountain village of Sella (419m/1375ft) is located 18Km inland from the coastal town of Villajoyosa on the Spanish Costa Blanca. This small and authentic village is surrounded by magnificent mountain peaks and ridges, almond terraces, forested valley trails and dramatic gorges, making it a perfect location for walkers. Sella is also famous for having some of the best rock climbing in Europe.

In the 19th century cholera was widespread in Spain and even small rural villages did not escape. The worst epidemic here in Sella was in 1885 and lasted for 19 days - 18 people died and 45 were seriously infected. At this time the main route between Villajoyosa and Alcoy passed through Sella, so, to minimize the spread of the disease (and probably from a traveller’s perspective, to minimize any chance of contracting it!) an alternative route that bypassed the village was created. Sella is very convenient in terms of accommodation, transport and cost. It is only about a one hour drive from Alicante airport. Benidorm is only 40 minutes away by car. The Costa Blanca has a wide choice of all types of accommodation according to your taste and budget, ranging from package deals in Benidorm hotels to apartments and villas in Sella, Finestrat and Villa Joyosa. As there is a lot of climbing outside the main valley it is definitely worth hiring a car to make the most of your holiday.

The Cholera Walk The Cholera Walk is a short circular walk which retraces much of the ancient bypass and takes you past the main spring and picnic area (Font Mayor) so if it’s a nice day, consider a picnic. Alternatively you could seek refreshments at one of the local bars or restaurants. Along the way there are many viewpoints and historical locations, one of our favourites is the old bridge, until the arrival of motor cars and when the new bridge was built in the 1920’s, this ancient bridge was the main route into the village of Sella for anyone

coming up from the coast. Also note, as you look down at the bridge from the main road there are the remains of another construction on the right hand side. Two stone archways are clearly visible; this is believed to be all that remains of an ancient watermill that once stood on this site. As you approach the village, you cannot fail to notice the mighty Puig Campana mountain (that’s Valencian for Bell Peak) which although is some way off, from this angle it appears to look down over Sella like some mighty guardian. Wherever you are in the area it’s easy to distinguish the Puig Campana, firstly because of its huge mass and secondly because of the notch. The notch is called Roldan’s Notch and the story (apparently true) is that a giant called Roldan use to live on the mountain. Roldan had a very beautiful wife, in fact she was so beautiful that it angered the Gods and they were so jealous of her beauty that they condemned her to die at sunset! Roldan, who loved his wife very much, was furious. As sunset approached, he could no longer control his anger and he kicked the top of the mountain, creating the notch that we see today. By creating the notch, it meant that as the sun went down, a ray of sunlight was visible for an extra few minutes, thus giving Roldan and his wife an extra couple of minutes together before she died. The piece of rock that he kicked out landed in the sea and is what we now call Benidorm Island. It is possible to walk up onto the summit of the Puig Campana (1408m/4619ft) but you should allow a full day for this little outing and consider a guide. The walk will bring you into the village, and you will find yourself at The Plaza Mayor (main square) which is in the heart of the village. This is where the local game, Pelota (handball) is played and also where, during fiestas, most of the celebrations take place there is a small market here on Wednesdays and Fridays as well as 2 Banks with an ATM (good to know), a Small Shop/Butcher, Tobacconist, the Doctors Surgery, the Sella Town Hall, Postbox and a Public Telephone. What we didn’t mention because you really can’t miss it is Sella Church This small but beautifully decorated Church of Santa Ana is also in the Plaza Mayor and if the doors are open it warrants a look inside.

Rock Climbing Sella is one of the main crags in the Costa Blanca region. This extensive area offers many different types of climbing. Easy and mid-grade sport routes are found at the most popular main crags in the centre of the valley, whilst mid to harder grade routes are concentrated in steeper sectors like the famous Wild Side. There are also mostly bolted multi-pitch climbs in Pared de Rosaria as well as entirely traditional routes in Puig Campana. All of this on great quality limestone!

Have you got a location that you would like to hear about? Then why don’t you tell us?! Email the teambuzz@vistacostablanca.com Most of Sella’s routes are up to 30 m of slabby or vertical, fingery and technical climbing on little crimps and holes. The Costa Blanca’s sunny weather makes it a brilliant climbing destination throughout the year. However, the best time to visit is from September until April. The most popular sectors in Sella have a Southerly orientation which makes them a perfect destination on sunny winter days. Although the steep Sector Wild Side hardly ever gets the sun, summertime will generally be too hot unless you head for the Northfacing crags like Pared de Rosaria.

RENTING IS A GREAT START TO A NEW LIFE IN SPAIN Many people decide to rent a property in Spain in the first instance and there are a number of reasons why this can be a good idea. With such amazing deals on offer to rent a property and with the fact you can get so much more value for your monthly budget renting it is always a great way to start your new life living in Spain and whilst you find your feet in your new home and get used to the way of life, allowing you to search for your perfect permanent home. There are a number of rental opportunities from low cost apartments in town centres or to villas by the sea, so you should be able to find a rental that suits your budget. What’s more, you can start looking whilst still in the UK, Property Plus not only provides news and information each week but also displays a host of available rental properties on line at www.viatacostablanca.com There are three main types of rental contracts Short-term rental – less than three months Temporary rental – more than three months, but less than one year Long-term rental contracts – one-year minimum with the right to stay up to five years. After the first year, if you wish to end the contract, you will need to give two months’ notice to the owner in writing. Short-term contracts are usually holiday lets and will be charged by the week. You might find good deals in the winter months, but be aware that the rents will be far greater during the high season. Temporary rental contracts are less common, as holiday rentals bring in higher revenue, but if you are happy

to stay for between three and 11 months, this might be best. Rents for long-term lets are charged monthly and rental prices vary from region to region. Rentals are calculated on square metre. Car parking may be included or available at an extra cost. You should always view the property before you sign any contract, and if you don’t speak Spanish, try to take an independent Spanish speaker with you. If it is advertised as furnished, check what is actually included in the rental. Look carefully at the condition both inside and outside, and ask to see an official gas safety check certificate, which is issued every five years. Renting a property in Spain is not very different from renting elsewhere. You will need to have a Spanish bank account and your passport, and if you are working, you will need an NIE (tax identification) number. In these times of economic difficulty, landlords will require some proof that youhave the funds to pay the rent, and may ask for references. Spanish Law requires the tenant to give the landlord one month’s rent in cash as a deposit against damage, and in some cases more may be legally requested. Landlords are responsible for any major repair to the property and its infrastructure. Tenants are expected to pay for small things, like a washing machine repair; if the machine needs replacing, the landlord pays. Literally millions of people rent property in Spain and you can

feel confident that the law is weighted on the side of the tenant (except in cases of failure to pay the rent). Renting is a good way to spend time in your chosen area without capital outlay. Most foreigners go on to purchase a property, but some prefer to continue renting, as they don’t have to worry about maintenance and have the freedom to move elsewhere without having to sell their home first. On a final note all of the above is meant as a guide to the main points you need to consider when renting in Spain. As with all matters that are this important, we recommend that you consult a legal professional before you sign any contracts. We can put you in touch with a reputable lawyer who you can consult on all your legal matters. E mail us Info@vistacostablanca.com

PMR-

WE CAN HELP WITH YOUR ENERGY EFFICIENCY CERTIFICATES

As you will be aware, from 1st June 2013, a new Energy Efficiency Law for properties came into force, which will affect all sellers, landlords, buyers and tenants. This new law means that any properties sold or rented after 1st June will be required to have a Certificate confirming the energy efficiency of the home. The Certificate is valid for 10 years and will only need renewing on a voluntary basis, if modifications or alterations are made to a property within this time. PMR Property Management & Rental have been very proactive with the new Law and have enlisted the help of Alicante based Architects and been able to negotiate a great price for our Owners. Our Architect will visit the property and test the heating, refrigeration, hot water and lighting to ascertain the amount of energy consumed when these items are used. In addition, he will test the Co2 emissions of the home, which must also be listed. There is no obligation for any Owner to make alterations or upgrades to the property at this time but the architect will be happy to advise an Owner of how their grading may be raised should it be of interest.

It is important that Owners realize that this is not a recommendation, it is COMPULSORY and Owners can face fines if they fail to comply. Tenants should also be aware of this when they are looking for their new home and should always be given a copy of the Certificate when they sign the Contract. You should note that this Law does not affect owners or tenants who signed an agreement prior to the 1st June 2013 and they will continue to be unaffected if a renewal Contract is signed with the same tenant for the same property, it is just for new Contracts. PMR are happy to organize an Energy Certificate for any owner and for a limited period they can offer a special price of just 175€ +IVA plus 10€ for the registration. Just call PMR and they will make all the arrangements, you can visit in person at their Alfaz offices or by telephone on 966 260 877 or from the UK 0203 411 7758. SPANISH PROPERTY MARKET UPDATE

Over the past seven years, Spanish property prices have fallen dramatically – especially in the areas where the banks are offloading repossessed homes very cheaply.

Towards the end of 2013, property prices were beginning to stabalise and are were even rising in some districts of Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in the more up market areas on the coast. Current prices are now at levels last seen in 2003 – before the meteoric construction boom, which fuelled the higher prices – but on average are still around 31.07% lower than they were in 2007; in many places this is closer to 50% - so excellent deals still abound! During 2013 there was a large increase in foreign buyers, Brits as well as French, Russians, Belgians, Germans and Scandinavians. Experts suggest this may account for the stabilising market, as with Spanish unemployment remaining around 26% and wage cuts still common, the home market remains stagnant. Many local authorities have put together initiatives solely to attract overseas buyers. In Comunidad de Valencia, a team was sent over to Scandinavia specifically to find buyers interested in the Spanish market – to great success. Areas such as Alicante, Murcia, Estepona and Valencia, as well as the Costa Brava, are still the most popular, as British buyers seek sun and the Mediterranean lifestyle. Costa Brava in particular is home to a number of bargains, thanks to the declining house prices. More recently it would appear that older expats living in the smaller coastal villages have moved to smaller properties in local larger towns – making it easier for them to access the local amenities – and these vacated properties have been sold to younger expats seeking sea views. Also as a result of the property crash, new rules governing agencies for estate agencies have been introduced, tightening up controls. Those that have been able to get through this are generally professional and most have English-speaking staff – making it incredibly easy to buy a property in Spain. IVA (VAT) on property purchases has risen to 10% in some autonomous regions, although this has not had much of an effect on the market. The biggest issue with the Spanish property market at the current time is that Spaniards are not buying property – and prices will remain low until this changes. Properties offloaded onto the market by the banks are at extremely low prices, and really Spain is relying on foreign buyers to kick-start property sales. If you are looking for a property in the bigger cities or smarter coastal areas, now is the time to buy as the market

has stabalised here. However, in areas such as Andalusia and La Rioja, they are still falling substantially. The next six months are crucial for assessing if the market is recovering, but in the mean time we expect there will be excellent bargains for some time to come.

The Fitch Ratings service has issued a new report on the Spain home market, which offers a rosier perspective than many of its peers. Fitch concludes the home price declines are “coming to an end” and there are “clear signs” the market has hit the bottom. Fitch bases its findings on the increased activity from financial institutions. “The house price and mortgage market stabilisation reflects Spain’s macroeconomic recovery and banks’ increasing willingness to lend,” Fitch said in a statement. After analysing 8,000 foreclosed loans, Fitch concluded that declines in repossessed property valuations has peaked at 70 per cent below original levels and “the price range at which mortgage servicers are selling repossessed properties has also narrowed considerably.” Fitch says prices may rise in “single digits” in the next quarters, which is much more optimistic view than recent reports, which suggest any real recovery may still be a year away. Fitch acknowledges the overhang of supply and Spain’s continued struggles with a lagging economy and unemployment will continue to dampen any recovery. But the analyst argues the market fundamentals have improved. “These findings are reflective of a new market consensus helped by improved price transparency and drastic economic adjustments that have affected both supply and demand,” Fitch reports. Stablisation at these levels reflects Fitch’s initial forecast of a 40 per cent peak-to-trough house price decline, “and a ratio of the average house price to the annual net household income of approximately five times, which is close to the historic mean.”

GET EXPERT LEGAL ADVICE WHEN BUYING A PROPERTY IN SPAIN This is really important if you aren’t a fluent Spanish speaker, as they will be able to guide you through the details of the transaction, so that you fully understand the contract and supporting documentation. It is incredibly important to make sure you don’t confuse a solicitor, employed by you alone to protect your interests, with a notary. While Spanish notaries are legally trained and mandatory for any property transaction in Spain, they are employed by the government and so officially do not act for either the buyer or vendor. The role of a notary is to oversee and rubberstamp the paperwork in a property transaction, check all necessary taxes are paid and register the property with the Spanish Land Registry. Your independent solicitor will ensure your contract and property are exactly how you, their client want them, and that you are protected from any charges left over from the previous owner, such as mortgage costs, estate or municipal taxes, and any other claims. It is not compulsory to use a solicitor when buying in Spain, but for a relatively small fee, doing so could save you a lot

of money in the long run and will bring peace of mind. Your solicitor can check any paperwork or payment terms before you sign a contract, and can also arrange for a survey to be carried out. They will review the sale agreement, verify titles and carry out other checks to ensure that you’re protected. Independent solicitor fees will vary but, will typically be between €1,000-€2,000, depending on the property and firm. We have partnered with a trustworthy, highly recommended law firm with experienced solicitors who are perfectly placed to assist Weekly Buzz readers throughout their buying journey. For any arising issues, including local legislation, taxation and inheritance laws, our recommended law firm are on hand to answer any questions you may have, and are authorised to offer professional legal advice on all legal matters. If you would like to be contacted by our recommended law firm, simply send us an email at info@vistacostablanca.com and they will be in touch as soon as possible!

SHOCKING INCREASE ELECTRICITY RATES HIGHER THAN EVER

After the discount that had to be applied over the rates that had been charged to Spanish consumers during the first three months of this year, which most of us have received in July, August has brought another increase in the tariff, resulting in electricity rates being higher than ever. Calculating the average tariff over August, an average consumer now pays 1,4% more than in August 2013. And it looks like we will be condemned to pay quantities ever higher for the consumption of energy, as the Government refuses to approve a system that allows the rates to be established by calculating the real costs involved in generating energy. Consumer organisation Facua compared prices in 2013 and 2014 and below you find a summary of their findings. In the first eight months of this year, the monthly rate for each kWh consumed was 13,93 cts in January, 12,76 in February, 12,76 in March (the re-calculated tariff, discount included), 12,12 in April, 14,17 in May, 15,22 in June, 14,83 in July and 15,37 in August. And with regards to the fixed tariff for each kW contracted, this has come from 3,78 euro in August last year, when the Ministry approved a rise of 62,8% with respect to the tariff of 2,32 euro which had been established in April 2012. In February of this year another rise of 17,9%

has been approved, resulting in the 4,46 euro that you will find on your bill now. In just over a year, an increase of 92,2%. In April this year Facua denounced the Spanish Government with the European Comission. The denuncia contains several elements, one of which the clear discrimination in calculating the price for consumed kWh for those with the new digital meters, and those without. Another, the non-transparant, unnecessarily complicated way to calculate the prices and information regarding the tariff to be billed only given in retrospect, not in accordance with European consumer law at all. Facua hopes the European Commission will intervene and will start court procedings against the Spanish Government, leading to the paralisation of the present chaotic tariff calculation model.

Reviewed 18 September 2014 Been to this restaurant twice on my last trip to Benidorm, and during our week stay went a further two times. Food amazing, reasonably prices, staff so helpful. 4 courses 12 euros. Wine lovely too. Will defiantly be returning when we are next back in Benidorm :)

Reviewed 3 September 2014 On my many Holidays to Benidorm I love to have my English Sunday Carvery (for when you are missing home cooked food) at Monroes. Great value, tasty and will always take a trip there whenever I return :-)

“Wonderful Restaraunt - Jamaican Super Ribs Superb””

“Great night x”sound.” Reviewed 17 September 2014 Having previously taken in the ambiance of this fantastic restaurant earlier in the year myself and my partner had no hesitation on booking a meal at Christopher's again on a visit to Benidorms fantastic old town last week, the Food once more was second to none and you won't be allowed to leave hungry that's for sure! Great food/staff/ and atmosphere perfect for eating, would highly recommend a visit to this fab eaterie if heading to old town Benidorm 10/10 Thanks for a great night AGAIN x Les & Karen

“First Class”

“Fish Friday” Reviewed 19 July 2014 Went to Monroes Benidorm yesterday with my wife. I had the fish and chips and she had Blue cheese burger, both meals were good, the lager was expensive at 3 Euros a pint however but that won't stop us from going back. The staff that we saw were both very friendly.

“Excellent Benidorm Carvery” Reviewed 27 May 2014 Been to Monroes on many an occasion and with large groups too from Linedancing. Always superb service. Always lovely fresh veggies and meats. Could do with stuffing balls as well, just my opinion but excellent. They do a lovely pie menu too and lots of other items but their carvery is good.

Reviewed 11 September 2014 The food was excellent and very reasonably priced, Good banter with the owner, and we would certainly go back

“well worth a visit” Reviewed 6 September 2014 Used to go here when it was Deja Vu.Christopher took it over and the standard is very good. Good selection of food, well presented, friendly atmosphere and at a reasonable price. It is well worth a visit if you are in the old town

“Just perfect”" Reviewed 25 August 2014 We had previously visited this restaurant when it was called deja vu, we had really enjoyed it and returned on our recent trip, we were disappointed that it had obviously been taken over, but decided to try it anyway, we were so glad that we did. We had a beautifully cooked meal with the most wonderful and friendly service. The restaurant is now owned by the chef who was there when it was deja vu, so the high quality food still remains, but in a beautiful contemporary environment. My husband said that the chicken he had was the best cooked piece of chicken he's ever eaten. My steak was cooked to perfection and all the side dishes were beautiful. The cheesecake I could have eaten all day, it is rare to find a dessert that is obviously freshly made rather than purchased in and this made it all the more enjoyable. I would recommend this restaurant and wish that we were able to go back!

“Re-Opening!” Reviewed 5 May 2014 Went to Monroes Benidorm and found it closed - gutted, but have since found out they are re-opening on Sunday May 11th. They will be doing Carvery on Wednesday and Sundays all day and the rest of the week have a great sounding new summer menú, with Ribs, Steaks and Homemade Burgers etc. If you pop along they are there with any information you might need. So glad they are opening again, Best Meal in Benidorm!

“Good food” Reviewed 12 April 2014 Called in here to try their homemade pie and boy i was not dissapointed.I had the steak and kidney pudding.it was filled to the top with juicy s & k also mashed potatoe.roast potatoes sprouts cabbage carrots and gravy i think it was only about 6€.great value for money

HAVE YOUR SAY!

Reviewed 12 September 2014 My partner and I always head to the La Roca Restaraunt whenever we visit Benidorm / Albir. The Restaurant serves up the most superb ribs although the steaks are also to die for. The great sea views from the terrace and excellent friendly service only add to an always great experience. We shall be back on 1 March 2015 :)

“Quality food ,”” Reviewed 3 September 2014 My wife and I ventured to the sea front on the third day of our trip and chose la Roca after a quick search on trip adviser. It was quite late so we just had a main each. I had the ribs which were plentiful and beautifully Cooked and Rose had the tenderloin steak again nice size and perfectly cooked. Reasonable value for what we had would go back again.

“La Roca Rocks!” Reviewed 13 August 2014 There are many quality restaurants in Albir but La Roca must rank as one of the very best. The eatery is run by a family who are rightly proud of the fine authentic cuisine they serve. The service is excellent as is the menu choice - I opted for the spare ribs which they advertise to be a speciality. They certainly were, accompanied with a choice of sauce (I was very pleased I tried the chilli and ginger). Other memorable meals in our party were the superb fish soup and the steak which was cooked perfectly, all beautifully presented and very reasonable priced considering the quality. It was especially nice to chat with and pass on our compliments to the chef who took the trouble to get our feedback after the meal and that typified the classy but friendly service. We are certainly looking forward to a return visit!

“Whoa!” Reviewed 1 August 2014 The Food was lovely, the restaurant was Authentic and colorful and the staff was full of good spirit. The menu card served a huge variety of tasty Foods and for dessert we ordered the sorbet con cava (Highly recommendable!). All in all definitly Worth the visit, it is stationed near a road, but only a few cars passed by, during Our visit.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd) You may have had a few hurdles to clear last week, but treat this week as a new page, and greet each scenario with a smile on your face. It wont take you long to bounce back, as long as you don't allow others to try your patience. Maybe a quiet weekend is best. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd) As the week begins, throw yourself into completing tasks at work as quickly as you can as it will leave you more free time to be with loved ones. Its important to find a balance between work and love as they're both equally important and equally demanding in your life. SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st) You have the ability to relate to others on an intellectual level, so seek out the people you see as clever and astute and bounce some of your ideas off them. Stop looking back to the past. It's time to move on. If you let nostalgia get in the way you'll reach stalemate again. CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th) You tend to work better if you're in control of whatever you're doing, but others may feel you're lording over them at work, so make sure you let them know you're doing them a favour by taking the lead, as it means you'll also take the fall if anything goes wrong. It wont though.be surprised by the rewards. AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

BUG BITES - MOSQUITOS & SPIDERS

During the hottest months of the year plagues of mosquitoes arrive. Only the females of the species are responsible for the irritating bites that humans and other mammals suffer: they use the protein in our blood to harvest their eggs. These insects’ bites are not dangerous in Spain, for they don’t carry or spread diseases, but are nevertheless a nuisance to deal with. However, if you have a history of allergic reactions to mosquito bites, you may suffer from Skeeter Syndrome, a rare allergy to mosquito saliva. Symptoms, other than the usual bite, include: • Red lumps on the bite area • Swelling and large bumps on other parts of the body • Bruising and blistering • Angioedema and anaphylaxis (swelling of the face and neck). This can be fatal due to airway obstruction and subsequent suffocation. • Asthma • Infection To prevent allergic reactions, it is recommended you take antihistamines. If you do begin to suffer from any of these symptoms however, seek medical attention immediately

ing especially dangerous in children and the elderly. Normally, all you need to do is keep the wound clean with antiseptics, but if you suffer from any severe symptoms, again, seek medical attention immediately.

The MEDITERRANEAN BLACK WIDOW, usually found in open places, like on plants and rocks, is black with red spots on its abdomen. This species’ venom is a powerful neurotoxin, which has been known to kill small animals such as rabbits. Its venom is particularly powerful during the autumn, which, when bitten, produces a sharp pain which slowly increases, along with numbness in the limbs. This can be followed by spontaneous muscular contractions, especially in the abdomen, and laboured breathing. Once again, any of these symptoms require immediate medical attention Measuring between 1 and 3 cm, the WOLF SPIDER is the largest European spider. Although menacing looking, its bite is similar to that of a wasp: painful, but unworthy of medical attention. If in any doubt, always seek medical attention.

There are, of course, more serious bites to look out for. It is important to be able to distinguish a mosquito bite from a spider bite, for the latter can be more dangerous and require medical treatment. Although there are few life-threatening species in Spain, the following spiders may present some health risks: The bite of the BROWN SPIDER, also known as the “corner spider”, is considered one of the most dangerous spider bites in Spain. This spider inhabits dark and humid places, and is very commonly found in houses. It is not aggressive, but the bites usually occur because it tends to hide away in beds and in clothes. The bite may produce necrosis (death of skin cells) and a small wound, and can be extremely painful. More severe cases, though infrequent, have shown symptoms such as a fever and joint pain, becom-

BENIDORM DOG HOMING

What is Benidorm Dog Homing?

Benidorm dog pound is just outside this popular holiday resort. A very short taxi ride from the main hotels and we are always in need of volunteers to walk the dogs in our care. SPAP Benidorm is the agency that runs the pound to look after animals that are sent to it for protection. They have a policy to protect and not destroy animals. However the shelter provides extremely basic facilities, food is donated from hotels, medical care is limited and it is difficult to fully look after up to 300 or more animals. Benidorm Dog Homing are the volunteers who walk the dogs and give vital support. They are the people who take the active part in re-homing and re-introducing dogs back into homes. They also pay for additional medical treatment above that given by the pound and work hard to prevent illness and infections. Volunteers not only give their time but also donations to help in this work. The team has a wide variety of language skills to help them in their work and have a great knowledge of the system and rules that must be met for a dog to be helped to its forever home in any European country. With these skills the adoption process can be handled easily. This leaves you looking forward to your new loving friend, knowing that you have saved a life. You can help with donations using paypal to yeso1977@hotmail.com or contact us on facebook to find out more about our dogs in need!!

DIOR Born 2010 - Pound life AUG 2013 - HOME HUNTING He was left by his family and is a lovely dog. Height about 40cm. Has been castrated as was a bit lively but has settled down well now. KEEP YOUR DOG HEALTHY AND HAPPY

GROOM REGULARLY!

Grooming your puppy/dog All dogs will benefit from regular grooming, whether it is a short haired breed or one with a long or fluffy coat.Reasons for grooming – Remember ‘CHAIR’ Cleanliness – keeping your dog’s coat clean by removing dirt and dead hair helps encourage new hair growth and reduces the amount of hair deposited on household furniture Health – grooming helps to stimulate new coat growth and prevents the formation of knots which may lead to skin irritation Appearance – most owners take a pride in their dogs looking smart, and regular grooming will certainly help your dog to look his best Inspection – regular grooming is also a great way to check for parasites or any suspicious lumps and bumps Relationship – grooming is part of dog’s socialisation activities. Regular grooming helps create a bond between you and your dog, and acustoms the dog to being handled. Getting started It is important to groom your dog at a height which is comfortable for both you and your dog and for many dogs it may be advisable to groom your dog on a table. There are custom made grooming tables available, which might be a good investment if you have taken on a dog that needs a lot of grooming. But any sturdy table or work bench with a non-slip surface will suffice. Remember: never leave your dog unattended on the table even for the shortest moment. Start the grooming experience at an early age as part of your puppy’s socialisation programme and routines. Keep the sessions short to start off with – just a couple of minutes, gradually increasing the time spent on the table. Always make the experience positive, rewarding with praise and treats. Any struggling should be dealt with firmly but kindly as your puppy may be frustrated, mischievous or even afraid. Build up the experience and your puppy will come to accept his grooming routine and also being handled on the table, which will help for other activities such as veterinary visits. Finish the grooming routine before he gets bored or tired, so that each session ends on a positive note. Dog coat types. It’s worth bearing in mind that factors like neutering, age, poor diet and poor health can dramatically influence your dog’s coat.

Knots and matts A knot occurs where the coat is slightly tangled but it can be removed by careful brushing or combing out. Matts are formed when dead, loose undercoat hair becomes trapped by the top or guard hair, and starts to clump and twist together. If this matted coat becomes wet, the matting tightens and becomes almost solid. Do not attempt to remove matts unless trained in the procedure. Otherwise, refer to a professional groomer.

Care of ears, nails and eyes • Check the dog’s ears to see if they are clean. You can remove excess dirt from the inside of the ear flap with damp cotton wool. Never probe inside the ear as you may perforate the ear drum. Any odour is usually a sign there is something wrong and the dog should be taken to a vet. • If nails are excessively long remove the tip of the claw, taking care not to cut the quick or blood vessel. • If needed clean the eyes with clean, damp cotton wool using a separate piece for each eye. External Parasites A parasite is something that lives on another animal (the host) and gets its nourishment from the host. If left unchecked, the parasite causes disease or even death. The most common external parasites found on dogs are fleas and ticks. • Fleas are very small, brownish black, extremely agile creatures. Excessive scratching and self-biting can be symptoms of flea infestation. Even if no fleas are to be seen the presence of shiny black specks like coal dust (flea excreta) is a sure indica-

tion of the presence of fleas (dab the specks with a damp piece of cotton wool and if it goes pink it confirms the presence of fleas; these are the remains of a digested blood meal from the host). • Ticks are largish grey pea shaped parasites that can be 3 to 4mm in length. They attach themselves to other animals in order to have a blood meal. There is evidence that ticks are also a threat to human health as they can spread Lyme disease. There is now a wide range of proprietary powders, sprays, ‘spoton’ treatments and anti-flea and tick collars available. A dedicated pet care professional will be happy to advise on suitable products. Other skin problems R i n g w o r m : Ringworm is a fungal disease, affecting the skin, nails and hair. Circular lesions appear causing hair loss, which become scaly and crusty. Ringworm is contagious and is a zoonotic condition (transmissible to humans).

Toby Jones takes the lead role in this feature-length fact-based drama from writer Peter Bowker (Occupation, Eric and Ernie), inspired by the life of Neil Baldwin. Although he was diagnosed as having learning difficulties, Neil has constantly confounded people's expectations during a colourful career that has seen him work as a circus clown and a kit man for Stoke City, and recently led to him being awarded an honorary degree by Keele University in recognition of his contributions to campus life. Overall there were 36 goals,5 clean sheets,51 yellow cards (most so far this season) and 3 red ones going into this Weeks Fantasy League. Swansea's Bony became Referee Jonathan Moss's 3rd Player he has sent off this Season. He has only refereed 4 games. At last we got some penalties awarded I was going to give up on them. Why Referees don't give penalties for all the holding and pushing at Corners is unbelievable Jeff! Steve's Team Cowden Red Devils kept hold of the Number One spot in the Fantasy League for the 2nd Week running even though he was coming under a lot of pressure from John's Team Cracker United who jumped up 16 places to 2nd place after top scoring this Week with 41 points Two Burnley Defenders Mee & Trippier kept a clean sheet to help him reach that total. Jarrod's Team We R Leeds are in 3rd place 1 point infront of Pauline's Vodka Army.At the other end of the scale Les's Team Have not Got a Clue look destined for a tough Season ahead as they are already slipping away from Chris's Magpies Forever the distance 15 points. Rocky's Mini Spurs have returned to the Summit of our U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League after a couple of Weeks away. Bradley's Team Killer 2000 kept the spot warm for them and have dropped to 3rd spot allowing Gino's Pack to move into 2nd place.Down at the foot of the Table Adam's Team What's the Point have taken over the bottom spot from Calum's Ree's Red Devils who have day light between them 10 points the gap. GOOD WEEK It’s Hammy's Time

LEWIS HAMILTON had to work hard - but his brilliant nightshift in Singapore has his title bid back on track. Brit Hammy was just 0.007secs quicker than his team-mate Nico Rosberg as Mercedes claimed their seventh front-row lockout of the season so far. And it took all of Hamilton's talents on the bumpy Marina Bay street circuit to secure top spot after braking too late into the first corner on his final charge. Hammy's time was 1min 45.681secs, with Rosberg clocking 1:45.688. Four-time world champ Sebastian Vettel has won this race for the past three years but he could only manage fourth behind his Australian team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

BAD WEEK HUMILIATED

Manchester United are off to their worst start in the history of the Premier League. That's official. Never before since the top flight broke away have they taken so few points from their opening five matches, and not since the first Premier League season in 1992-93 have they been so low in the table. It had seemed like the club had turned the corner when they splashed out around £165m in the transfer window, beat Queens Park Rangers 4-0 and then took 2-0 and 31 leads at Leicester City. United fans thought they had seen it all last year with the turmoil of the David Moyes reign. His tenure broke numerous unwanted records and ended numerous proud streaks. But now the club is at it again.

MALONEY - BOXING RETURN?

SPORT

37

Kellie Maloney is contemplating a return to boxing promotion and management. Previously known as Frank, the former manager of Lennox Lewis stunned the boxing world last month by revealing she is undergoing gender reassignment. However, Maloney, who guided Lewis as he became undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, told Ringside Special she may not be finished with the sport, despite retiring from boxing promotion and management in 2013. “Things have changed a lot for me, obviously, but the one thing I do miss is the boxing world,” she said. “I miss the characters, the banter, the dealmaking and I’m contemplating should I return or not. “Boxing was a passion for me and I still think it could be. Of everything from my previous life I’m actually missing the boxing world. Thirty years of my life were spent in the greatest sport there is, the hardest sport there is, one full of characters and you can’t just wipe that out of your life.” Asked how her sex change would affect her ability to manage or promote fighters, Maloney says she is now far more tolerant – and would be a better negotiator than she was in the past.

Maloney, who also managed Paul Ingle and Scott Harrison to world titles and promoted David Haye as he became cruiserweight champion, said: “I think Kellie would be a lot more tolerant than Frank was and probably negotiate better. “I’ve learnt a lot about myself, I’ve learnt a lot about the world and I’ve learnt a lot about human beings.

COOK SET TO

KOMPANY HAILS LAMPARD STRIKE STAY AS CAPTAIN

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says Frank Lampard's equaliser against Chelsea could prove a pivotal moment in this season's title race. Lampard's dramatic strike, against a club where he spent 13 glorious seasons, kept City within five points of the early season pacesetters. "Ever since I've been at this club, seasons have been decided on small events like this one so I will never underestimate what it could mean to our season. It could be crucial," said Kompany, who has won two Premier League titles with City. Kompany said the 36-year-old's surprise move to the Etihad, on loan from MLS side New York City, had been a major boost for the club. "Frank brings quality. The goal he scored you would have seen from him for the last 15 years in the Premier League," he said. "He is clever and still extremely motivated. "He brings experience. It is not a word you make up, it is something that helps and it is like his goal: keeping your head cool in a moment when you are under pressure and down to 10 men - how many players would have scored that goal? "He has proven it himself in only a few minutes, which is good. Ultimately you play so many competitions you need all the guys to be there and he is another who will clearly make our team

Alastair Cook is expected to be confirmed as England's one-day captain, through to the end of the World Cup, on Wednesday. Cook's place in the limited overs set-up has been under intense scrutiny after series losses to Sri Lanka and India this summer. The opener has struggled for form, as he did for much of the Test series against India, but will continue to take charge of the side in Sri Lanka later this year and at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

stronger." Lampard will return to New York for the start of the MLS season in January but the prospect of a second spell on loan at the Etihad next season could still be on the cards. "That is not for me to judge," said Kompany. "I think he has his personal plans as well, but I can base things on what I see day in, day out on the training ground and he is one of the better players. "That is as simple as it is. The rest is not up to me."

SPORT

EUROPE v USA From Back Page... Featuring 24 of the best players from the United States and Europe, the Ryder Cup is different than nearly every tournament you're used to seeing on the weekend. Say goodbye to stroke play, goodbye to the four-round format and goodbye to someone you've never heard of toppling everyone. And welcome to match play. The format has been kind to the Europeans, who have won seven of the last nine Ryder Cups. The last two events have seen Europe win by the thinnest margin possible—14.5 to 13.5. But with Tiger Woods not playing, world No. 1 Rory McIlroy firing on all cylinders and Scotland's Gleneagles Hotel playing host, the odds are in the defending champs' favor. Europe is a 20/27 favorite coming into the week, per Odds Shark. United States captain Tom Watson will have to cross his fingers that rookies like Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed and struggling veterans like Phil Mickelson find their footing. Along with McIlroy, European captain Paul McGinley boasts Ryder Cup giants Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter. Friday undoubtedly marks one of the biggest days on the golfing calendar. But what in the world does any of this gibberish mean?

What Is Match Play? Match play is like regular golf, only except without that whole war of attrition thing. You can shoot a 78 on one day and still have a chance of winning your match. In match play, each hole is a mini-game in itself. Players go head-to-head in pairs or as singles in what amounts to a bestof-18 format. The player with the lowest score wins each hole. In the event of a tie, the hole is halved and no one receives a point. The players continue until it is mathematically impossible for one party to catch up. In Ryder Cup format, there are 28 matches, each of which is worth up to one point. Ties are decided by 0.5 points for each team. For the United States to win, it has to have at least 14.5 points. In the event of a 14-14 tie, Europe retains the championship. All 28 matches are played regardless of the mathematical likelihood of one team prevailing. (E.g. The U.S. could be up 27-0 but the 28th match would still need to be played.)

Players and How They Were Chosen Ryder Cup teams feature 12 players from the United States and 12 players from Europe. There is an ongoing qualification process in the two years between Ryder Cups. Players are ranked based on their performance in major championships and regular events, with golf's four biggest contests carrying more weight. The nine highest-scoring players in 2013 and 2014 are automatically chosen. The final three players are called captain's picks. While given their full discretion to pick whomever they want, most captains keep their selections pretty close to how the players were ranked. The lowest-ranked player this year is Hunter Mahan, who was 25th in the Ryder Cup standings but has a 3-2-3 all-time record at the event. Lee Westwood, one of the better Ryder Cup players of his generation, is the lowestranked European at No. 19. EUROPE: Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Sergio García, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn, Graeme McDowell, Stephen Gallacher, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood.

McDowell on McIlroy

Day 3

Graeme McDowell says there are no problems between him and Rory McIlroy and explained Europe's Ryder Cup team might be better without them playing together all the time. Captain Paul McGinley talked on Monday about splitting the Northern Irish players up after they played six matches together at Celtic Manor in 2010 and Medinah two years ago. There had been talk of a falling out between the pair, but McDowell categorically denied that on Tuesday and went on to explain why the team might benefit from them playing with different partners at Gleneagles after winning only 2 1/2 points from six matches as a partnership. "There's no doubt our personal issues have been well documented the last couple of years," he said, referring to McIlroy's ongoing legal battle with his former management company Horizon, who still represent McDowell."I believe we've both come out of the other end of that probably better friends than we were going into it. Our personal issues are not a problem this weekend, that's a fact.

No more teams. Every man for himself. All 12 players are thrown into head-to-head matchups, each worth one point.

"I think tactically, Rory and my golf dynamic has changed significantly from

USA: Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Zach Johnson, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Hunter Mahan

How Each Day Works Day 1 and Day 2 The first two days of Ryder Cup play are the same. There are eight matches total, worth one point apiece. Each of the matches require two-man teams from the United States and Europe. There are four four-ball matches—ones in which all four players play individual rounds. The best ball of the four players competing wins the hole. (It is halved if the teams tie.) The matches follow a standard match-play format. There are also four foursome matches—ones in which the partners alternate shots. Again, the team with the lowest score wins each hole and the hole is halved in the case of a tie. The matches follow standard match-play format. Note: Because of the number of matches, of course, there are some players who are going to play twice.

the first time we ever played together when perhaps (there was) the older brother-younger brother leadership role I had with him. That's changed. He's the world's No 1 player, he's a four-time major champion. The dynamic between him and I has changed forever. He would now be the leader of the two of us and perhaps that dynamic doesn't work as well as it did in the past. "Perhaps I am the kind of guy that needs that leadership role, or at least to feel on a level with the guy I am playing with."

'Up for it' But McDowell says there is still a chance he and McIlroy will line up together at some point this weekend, especially in the foursomes format. "I'll be the first to admit at Medinah a couple of years ago, and Rory and I have spoken about this, I found the better ball format very difficult. He likes to go first, I let him at it, and then I go second. He hits it 350 yards down the middle and I put my

tee down thinking there's not a lot of point me hitting this tee-shot," McDowell said. "I stand there throwing myself at it and it didn't help my game much playing betterball with him. Foursomes I think is a bit different. I think we can still play foursomes pretty well together. I love playing off his tee shot, as anyone would. 350 down the middle works anywhere, any week." You can watch all the build up to Gleneagles on SKY, they have changed Sky Sports 4 into adedicated Ryder Cup channel for the event.
