EASY JET FLYING HIGH

From front page...for the winter sea-

son, compared to last winter the month on month figures are 10% less flights that are scheduled. More and more people are having to dig deep to afford flights this winter to fly back to the UK to visit their families and friends. Christmas time always sees a hike in flight costs but this year the prices are in excess of 200€. For some winter sun seekers disappointment came when Thomas Cook cancelled all winter flights to Alicante for the 2014 / 2015 season, the holiday makers that had made bookings were told that they can either cancel or amend their bookings. The cancelled holidays were found to be available with other airlines and tour operators at the same hotels but with price increases in excess of £300. The cut back in flights and the hike in holiday prices in the Costa Blanca are pushing winter holiday makers to the Canary Islands, Turkey, Egypt and even the Caribbean are being offered with eye catching prices. Other countries effected by the cut backs in flights are Germany and Norway. In total Alicante Airport has lost 13 direct links including flights to Blackpool, Exeter, and also with British Airways cancelling the London Heathrow service. Ryan Air have cut almost half of its operations from 44 to only 26 routes until April 2015.

this week a massive increase in their profits from the last 12 months up to the end of September 2014 with an increase of £103 million from the previous year of £478 million that has increased this year to a staggering £581 million. Much of Easy Jet profits have been generated by adding new routes and the acquisition of additional slots at Gatwick Airport. This winter Easy Jet has added three new routes from Scottish Airports that include routes to Morocco and Portugal carrying a total of about 34,000 holiday makers this winter, the question for business owners who rely on winter travellers coming to Benidorm and destinations around the Costa Blanca is why have we seen cuts in flights from Alicante Airport whilst other winter holiday destinations see cheaper prices an increase in flights? Could it be that Spain is pricing it's self out of the market?

Whilst we see the travel industry making cuts in Spain, Easy Jet announce only

FANTASTIC FIESTAS!

A bumper year for the British visitors during fiestas week with most hotels full in the centre of Benidorm. Visitors for the British shows a further increase in attendance and also visitors have stayed longer with the average number of days being seven or more where in the past the average stay was around four days. The prices of the flights this year have yet risen again for the return leg of the journey reaching in excess of 300€ With airlines taking advantage of the key dates of travel the emphasis for keeping the cost low is to book as early as possible. Fancy Dress Day, which always takes place the day after the official Benidorm fiesta ends saw an estimated 30,000 people most of which were wearing fancy dress. The weather turned out to be a day of sunshine without any rain at all which was a surprise for most people as the rest of the week was ghastly with rain falling most days. What was than previous years was the fact that the events and activities were spread along Calle Gerona from what was the main hub of Brit day which was at the cross roads with Andy's Bar, Tiki City, Yorkshire Pride and the Hotel Marina to now continue down to Morgans Tavern, The Western Saloon and as far as

The Flash Hotel. Police had cordoned off the street from traffic on the Saturday the 8th being the first day of fiestas. The street had outside bars and events organised by the Ambassador Hotel Group. The party was set up to kick start the week long party. However what we saw was empty bars and cafés due to the fact that the visitors had not yet arrived in numbers for the first weekend and in fact the week got busier during the following week. Fancy dress day saw a total street closure for Calle Gerona but also in addition this year Calle Lepanto was also closed to traffic, considering the swarms of people walking and filling the complete street there would have been no chance of getting any traffic through anyway! People started congregating from around noon, the wonderful costumes came together to create a rainbow of colour as far as the eye could see. The Western Saloon made a giant free paella, which was cooked in front of the crowds attracting people to stay around the area and not go too far. So instead of everyone heading to the Square people were spread out, although the entire area was absolutely rammed from the Western Saloon all the way down to Jumping Jacks. The bars along the whole of Calle Gerona were blasting out music and providing live entertainment. There was a

fantastic party atmosphere throughout the day and long into the night.

The fancy dress costumes were incredible so many new and original ideas with a lot of thought going into them. This fancy dress party is the biggest in Europe and seems to get bigger and better each year.

LEARN THE LINGO

Get legal advice and learn the language! say Brits at Iceland Getting clear legal advice and learning some basic Spanish were the top tips from British shoppers in Iceland stores in Spain when asked by the British Consulate. Other tips when asked “what is your advice for someone moving to Spain?” included “do your homework” and “try renting before you buy.” A team from the British Consulate and overseas healthcare team spoke to more than 100 Brits at three Iceland stores on the Costa Blanca this month. As well as asking shoppers questions about their life in Spain, the team also gave advice on a range of issues, from access to healthcare to how to register as a resident. The Consulate encouraged the Brits they spoke to, to plan for the future and to follow them on their “Brits living in Spain” Facebook page or @BritsliveSpain Twitter channel for more useful and up-to-date tips and advice. Part of a programme of events held in branches of the Iceland Supermarket across the region, it was an opportunity for customers who might not normally

come into contact with the British Consulate to share their knowledge and experience of life in Spain in order to help other British nationals thinking of making the move. Vice Consul Liz Bell who attended the Torrevieja store said: “It was great to meet so many people and hear from them what helps make life a success in Spain. I was really encouraged to see that the top tips were around being properly registered as residents here in Spain, getting on the padrón and making sure healthcare is sorted. Iceland Overseas Supermarkets have been really supportive of our programme and our thanks go to them for enabling us to work within their stores hear what their customers have to say”.

SAN JOSE CHURCH, ALFAZ DEL PI JEWELLERY STOLEN Two statues at the church had a gold bangle and a ring stolen, the bangle has been stolen before but returned after a few days which is what the priest is hoping will happen this time.

Father Schiller said that although the jewellery is not worth a great deal the value is sentimental, the bracelet was donated by a local family 50 years ago he was also doubtful that they could be sold.

The Blues BroThers

experience - Benidorm

These guys are fast becoming Benidorm’s most popular act. Indeed they are accumulating a fan base throughout the Costa Blanca and beyond, with a guaranteed full house at every show outside of the town and haveing already reached the point where they have declined work as far away as Madrid, France and the UK due to the commitments already in the diary. That’s quite an achievement considering the show didn´t exist just 9 months ago. Derek Blevins (54) (who performs solo as Dickie Ray), and David Young (27) only met in December 2013. Both had been performing solo shows around Benidorm for a few years. The Blues Brothers have possibly inspired the most tribute acts throughout the world with the exceptions of Elvis and Abba. It could be very easy to believe “if you´ve seen one you´ve seen them all”. Think again! This one is different...very different. The show is loved by all ages from very young kids to grandparents. All the rules governing a traditional Blues Brothers tribute have been thrown out. Derek told us “I felt that The Blues Brothers shows throughout the world have all become very similar. Most tribute shows are based around years of hits recorded by top artists. The Blues Brothers on the other hand is based around just two movies. For that reason all the others seem to be singing the same songs and performing the same comedy routines. It´s like watching the same play, just performed by a different cast. I felt it needed something new. My idea was to capture the essence of the much loved characters Jake and Elwood Blues and apply their “couldn´t care less” attitude to create a completely new show. Yes the old favourites such as Rawhide and Everybody Needs Somebody are still there, but there are always surprises, sometimes for us as well, as the audience are encouraged to be part of the show. Not just watch it. It´s not a show, it´s a party. ” Derek from Northern Ireland had been performing as a solo artist with a massive repertoire of songs covering almost every genre, having spent almost his entire life in music. Starting at the age of 3 he has performed in bands throughout Ireland after joining his first band at the age of just 14. David, a self taught dancer from Scotland, had been performing throughout the summer in Benidorm as Michael Jackson and taking his show back to Scotland for the winter season. Tracy from Essex is the third member of the team. Working tirelessly in the background not only managing and promoting the show, but also on occasions makes an

appearance on stage in the role of Sister Mary. Fans of the movie will remember it was Sister Mary who initially sent the Blues Brothers on their “Mission from God”. Tracy can also be found at most shows taking candid photos of the audience as they join in with the show. A nice surprise for the audience when they learn their enjoyable evening has been captured on camera and the photographs are available and always free of charge. The show originated almost by accident. Derek teamed up with a friend in Benidorm to play the part of Jake Blues in an existing Blues Brothers show, initially standing in to cover a period of illness for the artist who normally played the part. It soon became obvious that the roll was going to be more permanent, however things changed when “Elwood” decided to move to Belgium. Derek was left with a show, which still had work in the diary and no Elwood. Derek, however, saw this as an opportunity to bring his own ideas into the show. Decided Elwood should be replaced by a professional dancer and contacted David in Scotland. Derek and David had never actually met, but Derek had admired his dancing abilities, having seen him perform in Benidorm throughout the previous summer seasons. David loved the idea of trying something new and immediately flew back to Benidorm. From that point the two instantly gelled. David arrived in Benidorm on 23rd December and they performed their first show on 24th December, without a rehearsal. A member of the audience commented on that first night “it was a very polished show”. Something the guys still smile about today. Since then rehearsals have never been part of the daily work routine. “The show is built around the audience and we can´t rehearse it when they´re not there”. So next time you see a sign for a Blue Brothers tribute show, look again. If it says The Blues Brothers Experience Benidorm. Then no, you haven´t seen it before. This is the one they are all talking about. You can catch the fun in Benidorm at Tropical Bar, Jokers, Heartbreak Hotel, The Med Playa Hotels, Riviera Music Lounge, Helios Hotel, Ambassador Hotel and Jail Rock. For full details of times and shows, and for contact details visit the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Blues-BrothersExperienceBenidorm/152109584955083

19th - 25th November 2014

NUEVo ALcAZAR LA NUcIA If you like good food then you will absolutely love this place, it’s tranquil, spacious and so inviting. The cuisine offers a wide range of international dishes that has all of the favourites from around Europe. The Buzz team went along to meet

Christopher the owner and his team to discover more about the cuisine at Restaurant Nuevo Alcazar. The setting is combined of a large terrace featuring a centre piece water feature, together with an open dining room leading out onto the terrace also the main restaurant that is split over two levels. The decor is attractive colonial style with decorative pillars and leather upholstered furniture. The table setting is stylish and is complemented with a service that is impeccable. Our choice of starters were Carpaccio of Beef Rossini served with goose liver gratin and truffle oil dressing. The other plate was a Trio of Seafood that combined North Sea Shrimps with king prawns and scampi each served individually onto a salad. The choice of starters on the menu were extensive and there was a selection of Cold and Warm options also a selection of homemade soups. As the temperature of the evening was in the high twenties and my summer appetite had arrived, I wanted to enjoy a healthy lighter dish, so the Seafood Trio was a perfect choice. It was fresh and cool and with a tasty tangy dressing, presented well and extremely enjoyable. The Carpaccio of beef Rossini was a mouthwatering combination that melted away in your mouth and in fact the toast served on the side had been forgotten as the meat was so good it really wasn't needed and was only remembered after we had finished. For main course I was tempted by the variety of fish dishes but unfortunately on this occasion the fish on the menu will have to wait until next time. Although I would like to mention that the menu offers the best choice of fish that you will find anywhere in the Costa Blanca., there was turbot, cod, monkfish and salmon that all play a big part in the menu as well as others. I decided on the Fillet of Steak with a red wine sauce and goose liver pate, the Rack of Lamb was tempting but I love my steaks, I had it cooked medium which came out fabu-

lous and it was served with a cauliflower and complemented with a potato cake. The other main was Fillet of Pork with cognac and cream sauce with onion and pear, with a choice of sautĂŠ potatoes and French fries were served on the side. The portion sizes were generous and we were absolutely delighted with the quality of the food. There is also fresh lobster on the menu with five varieties to choose from, a Children's menu that has been designed with a variety of the younger generations favourites. The chef, Javier Boccalandro and his team combine the French, Belgian, and Mediterranean cuisines into enticing dishes, prepared with only the best fresh ingredients, they are used to serving a full restaurant of nearly 200 covers most evenings with the visitors coming from far around and have been coming back over and over through the years. I had noticed there was a table arrangement in the restaurant which was prepared for a party that seated 20 and after talking with Christophe he explained that they hosted a variety of parties most evenings. They also have their own extensive wine cellar that holds over 100 Spanish and French wines that simply compliment the excellent service and exceptional setting. This magnificent building is located on the CV70 on the roundabout number six coming from Benidorm towards La Nucia. We were mostly impressed with the quality of the cooking together with the presentation of the dishes. A first class recommendation from us at the Buzz Newspaper.

SOUL-FULL STREET PARTY @ THE PIG The Pig n’ Whistle music pub saw an amazing turnout for their Northern Soul all dayer last Wednesday, with literally hundreds of people descending on Calle Del Pal as early as 11am. People were turning up for hours and hours throughout the afternoon, one lady described that she had lived in the area for tens of years and never seen such an influx of people, she also wished the team good luck with all the cleaning up the next day while casting a smile. What followed was 8 hours of pure totally filled dance floors, with people dressed to impress. In both the bar and the street it was jam packed of people enjoying themselves. Lee and Helen would like to thank everyone involved especially Karen Payton and her Benidorm Facebook

Group, for promotion, DJ’s and music contribution... Also not forgetting the legendary PNW crew that were amaz-

ing keeping calm throughout with compliments all day of how fast everyone was getting served even though numbers were rising by the hour.

Most important Lee and Helen would like to thank the people who attended the event, for been patient, polite and respectful to both the pub and general public. “It would not have happened without you” they said. The atmosphere was as one Northern Soul veteran described like the good old days, back in the day. Fiestas as a whole for the PNW were amazing and blew all expectations out of the water, they are now planning with the people that took part in this year’s fiesta for 2015, which will be one party you should not miss. They also along the way raised money for the royal British legion in form of poppies, as remembrance Sunday fell in fiesta weekend, also Christies Children’s cancer charity and Karen Payton’s chosen charity Brain Tumour Trust. All totals will be published in a future editorial as some have not yet been collected in as are in sealed boxes. A big well done from The Weekly Buzz team to Lee and Helen for their hard work, your PNW hosts 365 days a year.

HYDROGEN TOYOTA FCV TO BE CALLED MIRAI

Toyota's new hydrogen fuel cell-powered FCV will be called the Mirai when it goes on sale in summer 2015. The Mirai will launch in Japan in April 2015, before arriving in Europe and the US in the summer. The name means 'future' in Japanese. The FCV has two hydrogen fuel tanks and a range of about 440 miles. The FCV’s fuel cell stack develops the electrical equivalent of about 135bhp. Toyota says the FCV 'delivers a performance and cruising speed similar to that of a petrol-engined car and it can be refuelled in roughly three minutes'. Toyota hopes to popularise hydrogen as a fuel just as it has pioneered hybrid

technology in the past 16 years. No pricing has been revealed, but Japanese versions of the car cost around £45,000. WORDS FROM TOYOTA “The need for an alternative to fossil fuel is real. And in time, hydrogen will be our most sustainable option. Not only because hydrogen can be produced from renewables like solar and wind but also because the only emission from the tailpipe is water vapor. So what was once seen as a pipe dream now has more potential than ever.” “Over the next year, the debate around hydrogen will intensify. Some are still writing hydrogen fuel off as anything from impractical to unsafe. But as history shows, progress has always been fueled by skepticism. So all questions marks are welcomed.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPERTY SURVEYS WHY DO I NEED A SURVEY? Unfortunately, there are many examples of residential buildings that have been built with poor construction details or where quality control has been lacking during construction. Structural defects in domestic buildings are not uncommon, even those built in recent years. There are also many new properties which have stood empty for several years as a result of the worldwide economic crisis. In Spain the residential property market has perhaps been the most affected and many properties remain incomplete or those that remain unsold have not been maintained in the intervening years. The majority of overseas purchasers do not bother with a survey and are not encouraged to undertake one by many agents. In our experience many agents will actively discourage the use of a surveyor or even deny that we are present in Spain.

Do not be dissuaded – we can usually arrange for a Chartered Surveyor be undertake a survey within three working days of the appointment and to produce the associated report within three days of the inspection visit. It is essential when buying in Spain to have a survey undertaken. We strongly advise that this is undertaken before a deposit is placed to reserve a property (unless the deposit is fully refundable in the event that an adverse report is obtained). The report will provide a general opinion on quality and condition of the fabric of the building and will highlight evident defects. This information is essential in making an informed decision on a purchase and can often assist with price negotiations.

past a builder may have been have been tempted to under-declare the true size of the property that was constructed in order to pay less tax on the declared building cost. Conversely, in recent years developers have sometimes constructed smaller properties than specified when they were originally bought off-plan. A survey can help to identify obvious errors relating to the property descriptions which may not otherwise be detected during the normal legal checks. It is also not uncommon for extensions or swimming pools to be added to properties, perhaps without the correct legal authority, and a survey can help to highlight such discrepancies prior to purchase.

It is also important to understand how a survey can assist your legal adviser during the purchase. It is not uncommon in Spain for the legal documents relating to a property to be incorrect or out of date. For example, in the

FINDING THE RIGHT HOME IN SPAIN

The hardest part of buying a home in Spain is probably choosing the property that had the best physical features that have been examined in detail. Taking your time when looking around so you can compare the different possibilities that the market has to offer. Examine the physical features of the property in detail to make sure that there are no problems that would later come to light. Estate agents make up an important factor when finding the right home because the agent should provide you with the different possibilities that suit your budget and requirements. Examine the property's physical features, take time to look over the property yourself. Check the condition of its installed equipment and it's general upkeep, the amount of light it gets, the views and the neighbourhood. Taking notice of the noise levels day and night and meeting the neighbours. If anything seems wrong then do not hesitate to bring this to the attention of the Estate Agent and to hear their explanations and then make a decision to employ a professional such as an architect or surveyor to make a report on your behalf.

Installed equipment should have service records and maintenance schedules, also taking copies of the utility bills so that you can examine the usual costs and calculate the total running costs of the property.

For new build property the seller should provide you with the general plans, floor space and the general description. Together with the description of the services (power, water, gas, heating systems, warrantee and fire safety. The details of the materials used in the build should also be made available with full information of the insulation of sound and heat. If the property is a flat or as part of a community area the annual costs should be declared as well as the details of the community association agreement.

“Thai restaurant Altea”

“Great British grub”

Reviewed 14 October 2014 We are coming back since several years in Altea and surroundings, visited different Chino - Ino restaurants. We had luck this time to find on the seaside a Thai restaurant. The menu for Western people is a bit confusing, the Thai dishes are only translated into Spanish and for most tourists a real handicap. However the cuisine is very good and fresh. They use day fresh vegetables, fish and meat. As most Thai restaurants the staff is very friendly and helpful. The Tom yang kung missed some fresh herbs but it is made to Western norms and not the real fresh smoothness of real Thai food. Food however is great and a great relief to have a Thai restaurant with high quality in Altea.

Reviewed 15 November 2014 Like other reviews have mentioned, you can easily walk past this place. Once we found it we practically went every day.The home made pies were fantastic and i tried most of them. I can recommend the pork pies too. The quiche, fish and sandwiches were also top quality and all freshly made. As others have mentioned the chips are thick, hand cut and fried to order. The price is amazing for the quality food on offer. All the staff were friendly and although busy, made you feel very welcome. This will be a regular stop when we next go to Benidorm

Reviewed 12 November 2014 While we were in Moraira today we really fancied a nice fish and chip lunch.Well this was spot on Nice batter and great chips . Highly recommend and we will most def be back soon. The place was busy but not over-packed so the service was very attentive and the seating not cramped. My other half had Steak pie again very good and full of meat Very good value for money !

“Best fish and chips in Moraira” Reviewed 4 November 2014 Had Sunday lunch here on a lovely October afternoon. We went for the VIP special menu at E21.95. A good cava as an aperitif, bread and ali oli, my personal choice was then goats cheese, plaice with gratin potatoes and chocolate mousse all accompanied by a half bottle of rose wine. Fantastic value. We sat out on the terrace but the interior had a really nice decor for cooler days or nights. The service was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. My niece is in a wheelchair and the restaurant had good and easy access at the entrance via a ramp. I found it by reading the good reviews on TA by regular contributors and so once more was not disappointed.

“What can I say” Reviewed 30 October 2014 All the previous reviews were spot on, it was a lovely meal and even though we arrived late, half an hour before they closed for the afternoon, were only to happy to let us take the time we needed to finish our meal, even offering dessert when we finished. Thank you it was a lovely meal and very fulfilling.

“Great Fish and Chips” Reviewed 23 October 2014 Coming from Yorkshire i know more than a little about fish and chips and these are by far the best in the area. Great value, great service - its doesn't do pizza, curry (except curry sauce of course) or other things it does just exactly what is says on the tin!

“REAL THAI FOOD” Reviewed 18 August 2014 I had been looking for a genuine Thai restaurant in our area. Looking through Tripadvisor I saw the Siam Beach and read the reviews. To be safe I phoned and booked a table for my wife and I. We were met with a warm friendly greeting from our hosts and served a delicious meal. True Thai food (heaven). The other reviewers were spot on with their comments. We also had a beautiful view of the sea whilst eating. I found the Siam Beach restaurant to be friendly, helpful and the food superb, with the added bonus of the sea view. Will definitely be back. The price was reasonable considering it was an a la carte menu.

“Fantastic, genuine thai food and excellent service” Reviewed 1 July 2014 First time in this restaurant with the family (2 adults and two girls age 4 and 6). We had chicken satay, gambas tempura, fried rice with pineapple (served in a pineapple), tom kha gai, pad thai and green curry. Fried banana with vanilla ice for the kids as desert. Friendly and efficient service. Best thai food we have eaten, both inside and outside Thailand. Will recommend this restaurant to all friends going to

“Proper Chips !” Reviewed 7 November 2014 We stayed at the nearby Rocamar hotel and despite walking past this café everyday unfortunately did not notice it until the last evening, food and drink is priced just right but the chips are amazing, really great place to eat. The young waitress was lovely, polite and attentive. My only advice (if I may) would be to somehow advertise what you do a little better, I spent 5 days walking past and thinking you were just a bakery / pie shop type of place, did not realise how extensive your menu was. Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work.

“A taste of home” Reviewed 2 November 2014 Fantastic food at great prices - if you're in Benidorm old town, give Michael's a try. A great variety of English food, all homemade. Also, the location is interesting - good for watching the world go by. Friendly staff, they make everyone feel welcome. We enjoy all types of cuisine, but sometimes on holiday, it's lovely to eat food like you would have at home. We've holidayed in Benidorm several times, and always make time for lunch at Michael's. Well worth a visit!

“simply brilliant” Reviewed 2 November 2014 visited cafe michael twice in two days.. Love it... Great food at extremely good prices... If you find yourself in old town benidorm give it a try.. You wont be dissapointed

or living in the area. And we will surely be back.

NORWAY'S RICHEST MAN BANS STAFF XMAS PARTIES

Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke - officially Norway's richest man - has cancelled his company's Christmas parties, affecting thousands of dejected staff, it was reported on Monday. The move by Aker Solutions, owned by Røkke, is because the firm's bosses fear the festivities would be in poor taste. Aker is set to let many staff go this year and next. Scrapping the Christmas parties will take place across all the oil and gas company's offices in Stavanger, Ă…lesund, Kristiansund, Trondheim and Bergen. The Aker offices in Aberdeen, northeast Scotland, have cancelled their Christmas party this year, "sympathy" to the hundreds of Norway people affected by the cutbacks, said

the Aberdeen Press and Journal. The move is to the dismay of 2,000 staff in the Scotland branch. Aker has blamed a decline in Norway's offshore "maintenance and modifications market" as to why hundreds of people will lose their jobs. A spokeswomen for Aker Solutions said to the Press and Journal: “We have cancelled Christmas parties this year across the company in sympathy with employees who’ve been affected by the slowdown in the Norwegian maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) market.â€? Business magnate Kjell Inge Røkke, who has controlled Aker is Norway's richest person, with a fortune of almost 11.8 billion kroner ($1.8 billion).

NORWAY BEAT AZERBAIJAN

Norway won their third match in Group H with a 1-0 victory away from home against Azerbaijan, on Sunday. The Nordic nation took the lead in the 25th minute with a goal from HĂĽvard Nordtveit. The 24-year-old defender headed the ball into the net from a Stefan Johansen cross. The first-half was a scrappy affair, littered with fouls and freekicks and Norway was content with most of the best chances, culminating in the goal ahead of the half-time whistle. The second-half saw Azerbaijan pushing for an

equalizer as Norway sought to put the game out of their opponent's reach. Neither team created many clear-cut chances and Norway won the match, happy to take away the three points. After the match, goal scorer Nordtveit, said to MAX: "We knew it was going to become a tough match. We came here to take three points, and it's truly wonderful that we got them." Norway's next Euro 2016 qualifier match is away to Croatia on March 28th next year.

CRYPTIC CROSSWORD

WEEKLY HOROSCOPES wE27

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

The lunar low does nothing for your energy levels this week, so slowing down the action is the order of the day. Personal success at home is not well marked, but if you’re patient and think before you speak, you’ll minimise any damage you could cause by thoughtlessness. TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st) Both business and material matters take an upward shift, bringing you plenty of potential for excitement and being under the spotlight. Strike while the iron is hot, but make sure children and family members are on board with your plans for the future. GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st) Find something exciting to do that will blow away any cobwebs and make you feel more alive. Mid week a feeling of insecurity will take you by surprise, but look around you and you’ll see that things are actually running smoothly. Don’t waste your time trying to please others. CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd) Being a team player will certainly work well for you this week. It’s not always easy for you to work closely with others as you’re a natural loner according to your astrological make up, but when you make the effort, it opens up a whole new world to you. Enjoy. LEO (July 24th-August 23rd) Your main success this week will be in your domestic scene. Its not that you wont make an impression in your professional life, you will, its just that you’re focusing the majority of your attention on home, heath and health. Start planning some DIY or alterations.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd) Keep yourself busy this week by tying up loose ends in work and play. This will not only give you the feeling of bringing things to satisfactory conclusions, but will give you more time to focus on new projects, new love affairs, new friendships. I’d go for it. LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd) It’ll be hard for you to feel comfortable in just about any area today, but your confidence should grow as the week moves ahead. The lunar high offers you plenty of opportunities to redress the balance and you’ll move ahead to bigger and better things. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd) You’ll make the most progress via work and efficiency. Its not so much what you do that matters, but the attitude you take towards it. No one can deny that your original practical skills are innovative, but remember to inject some of your personality into the equation too. SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st) You’re now in the enviable position of being able to call the shots over future plans or career changes, so focus more on the practical than the emotional. You have the scope to make this a really fulfilling period so expect to be busy every day this week. CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th) It’s a testing time for professional and personal relationships. You feel you achieve more as a solo unit but others don’t, and that’s where the problems may lie. Appease emotional partners or family members by telling them you’ll always be there for them. You will. AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

Scribble Pad…

It’s a great week for expanding your social circle and making new friends in business, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Channel your energy into changes you want to make around the home, but try to make compromises over unimportant issues. PISCES (February 20th-March 20th) If setbacks arise this week, your best plan of action is to go with the flow and trust that fate will lead you in the right direction. Focus on what you can achieve and don’t take silly chances with things in uncharted territory. You’re coming into an expensive season so watch your money.

In another local town Alfaz del Pi, the local dog pound has been forced to close at the order of the Major. Dogs were suffering in there and were being killed because the pound was full. It was a horrific place to visit and we do need to move forward with finding a way to run a dog pound in this town successfully. The problem now is that we have a large number and we are talking over 100! Dogs and on top of that cats....to find urgent new homes for to keep them safe from the gas chamber that will kill them. The options are limited. Kind people who will take one or two. Then there is Benidorm Dog Pound! This last week we have seen an explosion of dogs dumped with us, dogs whose hearts are broken after being left in the pound knowing that love is lost. Where we used to have 2 dogs in a cage we now have 5 and it is only going to get worse as we try to help out the dogs on the verge of death from Alfaz pound. The problems are many with taking in this amount. Dogs will be crammed into cages far to small for 5 at a time. We won't get to see the dogs easily and spot the ill ones so that we can help them. Living in cramped conditions turns them into packs, meaning they are harder to socialise. So many in a pen and too few volunteers means we cant get them out for a walk. This is getting desperate and we need your help now and you can do this in many ways. Turn up and walk the dogs. Many of you are now here for a few months and just 2 -3 hours of your time is invaluable for our dogs. Donations are vital as we now will have more emergency trips to the vets for treatment as the dogs become less socialised and more unhappy towards each other. We need building materials to help section off a large plot of land into smaller sections so we can get dogs out of their pens and into an area they can run ----the volunteers will do the building work we just need the tools. Here is a way you can help us and spread the word and get donations in.....buy a t-shirt! 30 ordered and over 365 dollars raised BUT ONLY IF we get 40 ordered.

CRYPTIC CROSS WORD

Just like people, pets’ cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, body fat stores, activity level, and health. Be aware of your pet’s tolerance for cold weather, and adjust accordingly. You will probably need to shorten your dog’s walks in very cold weather to protect you both from weather-associated health risks. Arthritic and elderly pets may have more difficulty walking on snow and ice and may be more prone to slipping and falling. Long-haired or thick-coated dogs tend to be more cold-tolerant, but are still at risk in cold weather. Short-haired pets feel the cold faster because they have less protection, and short-legged pets may become cold faster because their bellies and bodies are more likely to come into contact with snow-covered ground. Pets with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, or hormonal imbalances (such as Cushing’s disease) may have a harder time regulating their body temperature, and may be more susceptible to problems from temperature extremes. The same goes for very young and very old pets. If you need help determining your pet’s temperature limits, consult your veterinarian. Provide choices: Just like you, pets prefer comfortable sleeping places and may change their location based on their need for more or less warmth. Give them some safe options to allow them to vary their sleeping place to adjust to their needs. Stay inside. Cats and dogs should be kept inside during cold weather. It’s a common belief that dogs and cats are resistant than people to cold weather because of their fur, but it’s untrue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia and should be kept inside. Longer-haired and thick-coated dog breeds, such as huskies and other dogs bred for colder climates, are more tolerant of cold weather; but no pet should be left outside for long periods of time in below-freezing weather. Make some noise: A warm vehicle engine can be an appealing heat source for outdoor and feral cats, but it’s deadly. Check underneath your car, bang on the hood, and honk the horn before starting the engine to encourage feline hitchhikers to abandon their roost under the hood. Check the paws: Check your dog’s paws frequently for signs of cold-weather injury or damage, such as cracked paw pads or bleeding. During a walk, a sudden lameness may be due to an injury or may be due to ice accumulation between his/her toes. You may be able to reduce the chance of iceball accumulation by clipping the hair between your dog’s toes.

CYTOMEGALOVIRUS (CMV)

CMV is a common viral infection spread through bodily fluids, such as saliva and urine. It can be passed on through close bodily contact. For example, the infection can be found in small droplets of saliva which are spread from one person to another when an infected person coughs or sneezes. CMV is part of the herpes family of viruses. As with most other herpes-type viruses, once you are infected with CMV, it will remain inactive in your body for the rest of your life. CMV causes few symptoms in most people.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CMV The different types of CMV infection are: • Primary CMV - where someone develops a CMV infection for the first time • Reoccurring CMV - a previously inactive CMV infection is reactivated, often because the immune system (the body’s natural defence against infection and illness) is weakened • Re-infection with CMV - an infection with a different strain of virus • Congenital CMV - a CMV infection develops when a woman is pregnant and infects the unborn baby

If a woman becomes infected with CMV for the first time during pregnancy, there is a risk that she may pass the infection on to her unborn baby. Infection in the unborn baby is known as congenital CMV. It is estimated that 1 to 4 babies in every 200 will be born with congenital CMV. Only 1 in 10 babies who are born with congenital CMV have symptoms at birth. For them, however, the infection can be serious, even fatal. It is estimated that between 10-30% of very young babies (less than 28 days) with a CMV infection will die. The risk can be much higher in premature babies. Babies that do survive may develop long-term problems, such as learning difficulties and hearing loss. A few babies who are born with congenital CMV but have no symptoms at birth will experience hearing loss that develops over their first few years of life.

ALFAZ FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE Sponsored by As the Premier League takes a rest due to the 3rd International Break of the Season it gives us a chance to look at last Week's K.O.Cup Competition and also which Players have been the most impressive so far in this Season's Fantasy. There was 5 drawn ties in the 2nd Round of our K.O.Cup Competition involving Sponge Bob XI (31) v Golden Girls(31),Coblanca XI (23) v The Camels(23),Foxy Filberts(29)v Barca Forever(29),No Bad Losers(20)v Malpus Mayhem(20) and Power Blueboys(10)v Punky Roosters(10).The Replays will take place this coming Week.5 of our Junior Teams made it through to the next Round while a couple of them are still involved in Replays. One being the current Leaders of our U.K.T.V. SPAIN Junior League Lily's Sponge Bob XI. Eleven Ladies Teams have progressed to the 3rd Round with a possibility of making it 14 as Ann's Golden Girls,Debbie's Foxy Filberts and Claire's Malpus Mayhem have all got to try again this Week. The current Leaders of our Mark Carter Ladies Section Sharon's Team Shaztastic moved smoothly in the next Round by beating John the Manc by 32-23. The Team at the Summit of the Fantasy Vince's Bars a Loner went out in the last Round to last Season's Winners of this Competition Tich's Team Blue Tigers which now makes Steve's Cowden Red Devils favourites for this Season K.O.Cup as they disposed of Big Andy's Albir Hotspurs by 22-19.The lowest placed Team in the Fantasy Ian's Team Rock Bottom(245th) produced the shock of the Round by beating Dave's Team Always Believe in Gold by 20-16.Dave's Team was 149 places above Ian's Team. My Local over in England The Packet managed to get 4 Teams into the next Round and they are Doey & Coey's Team Parkwyddn,Ray's Pool Sharks,Steve's Team Salford Side and Mark's Village Reds. the New Year. Looking back on how the Players have fared so far in this Season's Fantasy League the top Goalkeeper is Swansea's Fabianski with 31 points 4 points in front of Manchester City's Joe Hart.6 Managers selected this bargain buy at only 2.3 Million. The top Defender is England's new Recruit Southampton's Nathan Clyne who has scored a massive 46 point haul.He was also a bargain at 3.1 Million but only 2 Mangers fancied him.In Mid-Field Chelsea's Cec Fabregas leads the way with 44 points most of them coming from assists.Only 1 point behind is Swansea's Sigursson and West Ham's Downing who are both having an exceptional Season.10 managers selected the in form Icelandic and only 1 picked Downing. Shame on you Hammer Supporters! Top Scorer and top Player so far in this Season's Fantasy League is Manchester City's ace Marksman Sergio Aguero with 73 points to his name.Southampton's Pelle is in 2nd place with a tally of 64 points and I can tell you now only 1 Manager selected the surprise Hit Man from Holland and that is the current leading Manager of the Fantasy League Vince. Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez is in 3rd spot with 58 points. The little Argentinian is also top Scorer in our Golden Boot League which is sponsored by Leonard Knowles Construction with 60 points which is 10 infront of Chelsea's Diego Costa. Well I'm sure when the Premier League gets going again a lot of Fantasy Managers will be glad to see the return of some of their Players such as Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge,West Ham's Andy Carroll and Arsenal's Giroud all back in training again.Everton's Ross Barkley and Arsenal's Theo Walcott are both back playing again after a long lay off. As we head towards the Christmas Fixtures I'm sure there will be plenty of changes in the coming Weeks. So far this Season has been the most competitive since the Fantasy League began 21 Seasons ago.

CATERHAM TO RACE IN ABU DHABI

Caterham will return to the Formula 1 grid at next week’s Abu Dhabi GP after raising sufficient funds through their bold crowdfunding scheme.

37

GOOD WEEK THE POWER WINS AGAIN

The Leafield-based outfit went into administration ahead of the U.S./Brazil double-header three weeks ago amid an ownership dispute and spiralling debts. Since then administrators Smith & Williamson have been trying to raise sufficient funds to initially ensure Caterham's participation in next week's season finale and, in a long-term goal, the team's outright survival. Last week, administrators launched a crowdfunding scheme with the aim of raising £2.35 million to get the team to Abu Dhabi, and while they were around £1 million short of their target as of Thursday night, further pledges on Friday mean that shortfall has halved ahead of the midnight deadline. Caterham's joint administrator Finbarr O’Connell has

nonetheless confirmed the team will be racing in Abu Dhabi, a feat he believes will increase the likelihood of one of the prospective buyers stepping forward to keep them on the grid in 2015.

DOUBLE POINTS COULD GO

Phil Taylor won his sixth Grand Slam of Darts title with a 16-13 victory over Dave Chisnall at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. 'The Power' sunk double 10 to lift the £100,000 winner’s cheque, while Chisnall received £50,000 for his efforts. After holding off Chisnall’s spirited fight-back , Mardle thinks Taylor is now the man to beat at the World Championships “Taylor has averaged over 100 in every single game, 114.65 against Christian Kist, he was the dominant force in this Grand Slam. He deserved that final.”

BAD WEEK

MODRIC FACING THREE MONTHS OUT Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that he is open to idea of dropping Formula 1’s highly-controversial double points rule for the 2015 season. The shock announcement last winter that double points would be awarded in the 2014 season finale in Abu Dhabi – which takes place this weekend – provoked immediate outcry from fans, with the idea also seemingly garnering little public support amongst the teams despite the motion originally carrying their support prior to its insertion into the Sporting Regulations. Ecclestone, keen to ensure there was no repeat of 2013 when Sebastian Vettel wrapped up the title with three races to spare, was credited with devising the concept – although F1’s commercial chief has since stressed that he wanted the final three rounds of the campaign to feature double points. And now ahead of the title-deciding race dubbed ‘Abu Double’ on Sunday, Ecclestone has told The Independent: “I’m not going to propose the three races again.

SCHUMACHER’S WEBSITE RE-LAUNCHED Michael Schumacher’s website has been relaunched to mark the 20th anniversary of his first World Championship, carrying a message to wellwishers from the seventimes World Champion’s family. ‘Your wishes give us strength,’ reads the message on www.michaelschumacher.de. ‘Still we receive wishes for Michael to get well soon every day, and still we are stunned by the sheer amount of sympathies.

‘We can only always thank you for facing this fight together with him and us. We remain confident and hope the best for Michael. Your strength is helping us to keep supporting him.’ The 45-year-old is continuing his rehabilitation at home after suffering severe head injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.

Luka Modric faces three months on the sidelines with a thigh injury, the Croatian Football Federation has announced. The 29-year-old sustained the problem midway through the first half of Croatia's Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy. The news will come as a blow to Real Madrid, who revealed the former Tottenham and Dinamo Zagreb man had suffered a "tear of the left proximal rectus femoris tendon" on Monday, although they did not put a timescale on his recovery.

MCLAREN DELAY LINE-UP DECISION

McLaren will not confirm the identity of their 2015 driver line-up until after the current season. The long-awaited announcement had been expected before this weekend’s season-ending Abu Dhabi GP. Instead, the Woking-based outfit have revealed they will only disclose their 2015 line-up after December 1st. ' Selecting the optimal driver line-up for a Formula 1 team is clearly an important process, and it is therefore one that requires precise and prolonged analysis,' a McLaren statement read. 'That being the case, and in order to

avoid distracting the race team from its primary objective during the final Grand Prix weekend of the season, which is to secure the best possible on-track results, we have decided to defer our final deliberations relating to our 2015 driver lineup until a date no earlier than Monday December 1st.' Despite the unexpected postponement, the team are still expected to announce that Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, seven years after leaving the team, will return to Woking in order to spearhead their reunion with Honda.

ENGLAND WIN SCOTLAND SHOWDOWN

Wayne Rooney struck twice in the second half to make it seven goals in his last seven internationals and help England silence Celtic Park with an entertaining 3-1 victory over Scotland. fter half an hour of a predictably frantic first half, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nodded home a precision long ball from the impressive Jack Wilshere before Rooney's effort early in the second half put England in sight of a routine victory. It was not all plain sailing for Roy Hodgson's visitors as a neatly-worked late goal from Andy Robertson ignited Scottish hope again - but a swift and emphatic reply from Rooney ensured England remain unbeaten north of the border since 1985.

HASKELL SAYS ENGLAND SHOULD BE BEATING THE REST

James Haskell believes England should be beating the All Blacks, and that no one in the side is happy with being "plucky runners-up". Haskell, who is expected to replace Tom Wood at blindside flanker against Samoa on Saturday, said England should be toppling the southern hemisphere giants. Successive defeats by New Zealand and South Africa mean that England are left trying to salvage a victory from the two remaining QBE internationals against Samoa and Australia. Haskell is set to win his 51st cap at Twickenham, and said no-one in the England side would be happy as "runners-up". This side has now developed to a point where we have beaten the world champions and where we ultimately should be beating these teams and be right up there," Haskell said. "It's very easy to see us as plucky runners-up, but not one person in this entire

environment has ever said that is the case. "No one is satisfied to only be pushing those teams close. We realise we want to be beating them, we should be beating them and we are doing all the things in our power to make that happen." With England's losing streak now at five matches, fans are looking for a turnaround before the World Cup begins in 10 months time. "Just because we lost on Saturday doesn't mean we're going to lose at the World Cup," Haskell said. "Frankly, players don't sit here now talking about the World Cup, what we're going to do when we get there and how we're going to do it, because the rugby landscape changes dramatically from month to month. "It would be great to have those wins in the bank, but my view is they don't have any bearing."

UNITED REVENUE HUGE DROP

WORLD CUP ROW FIFA CALLS FOR CRIMINAL PROBE

ding process did not justify reviewing the December 2010 votes by FIFA's executive committee. On Tuesday, Eckert said in an interview released by FIFA that he submitted his advice of a criminal complaint "more or less at the same time" as his 42-page summary was published. He said the complaint concerns "suspected unlawful activity in connection with Switzerland." No details were given as to which financial or business

laws might have been broken. A FIFA statement noted that "in isolated cases, international transfers of assets with connections to Switzerland took place, which merit examination by the criminal prosecution authorities." Eckert maintains "there is insufficient incriminating evidence" to question the FIFA board's choice of Russia and Qatar in December 2010. Still, "there are indications of potential illegal or irregular conduct in certain areas," he said.

FIFA filed a criminal complaint against unnamed individuals on Tuesday over the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding contests won by Russia and Qatar. FIFA said president Sepp Blatter asked Switzerland's attorney general to investigate the behavior of the unnamed people involved in the bid campaigns. In an apparent move to avert criticism of FIFA, Blatter acted on a request by FIFA ethics judge Joachim Eckert, whose summary last week of an investigation by American prosecutor Michael Garcia was widely denounced as a "whitewash" of Russia, Qatar and FIFA officials. Eckert concluded that any corrupt acts in the 11-nation bid-

The criminal complaint is the latest twist in a chaotic drama playing out since Thursday. Garcia has himself appealed to FIFA, challenging Eckert's decision to close the case against Russia and Qatar, and stating that his team's 430-page investigation reports were misrepresented by the German judge. Garcia and Eckert are expected to meet Thursday at an undisclosed location.

Manchester United's first-quarter revenue fell 9.9% compared with the same period last year, figures have revealed. United's overall income for the first three months of the financial year was £88.7m, down £9.8m, but the club did record a profit of £8.9m. Failure to qualify for this season's Champions League meant big reduc-

tions in both broadcasting and matchday revenue, down 13% and 21.8% respectively, while money from commerical activity was down 5.2%. But the lack of European football did not prevent United securing a record kit deal during the quarter, and chief executive Ed Woodward predicted further "growth opportunities" as the financial year progresses.
