dear Readers

It's been a cold, but sunny, week and there is one thing that I've noticed in recent days and that is the sun is considerably warmer during the daytime with temperatures on Sunday hitting 20 degrees. Sitting in a sunny spot and enjoying the warmth, you can actually feel quite comfortable without any jacket or jumper. It's amazing to see that in the middle of January. There are so many residents and visitors who enjoy the feel good factor of getting out in the warm winter sun, enjoying a walk along the seafront, the sun reflecting on the amazing blue turquoise sea and with such wonderful views across the coast line. On Sunday morning I will be climbing up the lighthouse in Albir. For me and hundreds of other walkers, the lighthouse is the most visited site in the area and the view is breath-taking.

For the last week of the month we are blessed with more clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine, we can say goodbye to another January and welcome February - the month of Love. So if you feel in the mood for romance, then now is the time to start to make your plans. I hope to give you some great ideas for gifts, and places to visit for Valentine's Day on the 14th, so keep reading to see what we can recommend. With Easter arriving in early April, we can look forward to the much warmer and longer days.

For sports lovers right now there has been plenty of action and drama with the huge upsets in the FA Cup, as well as some great tennis to watch from the Australian Open. With so many great bars along the coast, it is nice to find time to sit and relax, watch the weekend sport and enjoy a few drinks with your friends. If you’re in the car, at work or relaxing at home, please tune in to Overseas FM which has recently expanded their transmission in Costa Blanca with additional coverage in Benidorm and the surrounding areas on 93.4 FM (105.4 FM for Calpe, Bennisa, Moraira and Javea). SUPPORTS GAy COMMUNITIES

From Page 1... It happened to a Romanian man who was travelling on the TRAM and was caught at the Finestrat Shopping Centre stop with no ticket. He gave his personal details to the FGV officer without any objection and received a document to pay the amount of the ticket, plus an additional fine of €50. He did not pay this fine and then received a second letter, which he did not even read. The FVG decided to take him to Court and he was ordered to pay the price of the ticket plus a fine of €2 per day for 30 days (total amount €61.35) or €1.35 plus 15 days imprisonment. He will also have to pay interest on the unpaid ticket. Another twist to the story is that this “gentleman” could not appear at the Court, because he was already imprisoned in Castellon, so he had to give evidence by video. In summary, for a €1.35 ticket, the FGV instigated judicial proceedings, which will cost much more than the original value.

FlU EPIdEMIC STRIKES SPAIN The number of flu cases in Spain has tripled over the course of a week, causing 20 deaths across the country, with the number of cases set to rise even further in the coming weeks. Spain is in the grip of a flu epidemic, with figures well surpassing the average expected at this time of year, according to the latest figures released by Spain´s influenza monitoring service.

There have been 212.8 cases per every 100,000 people, three times more than the 88.9 per 100,000 cases registered last week. All ages have being affected but the number of cases in under-15s has increased especially rapidly, according to Spanish daily, 20 minutos.

There have been “an excess of flu-related deaths” for this time of year, concentrated on the over-64s, the

statement says. The worst-hit areas are currently Asturias, Castile and León, the west of Castile La Mancha and the north of Andalusia.

King Felipe VI of Spain has become the first Monarch in the world to feature on the cover of a magazine for gay, bisexual and transsexual readers. The photo on the front page of RAGAP is in recognition of the new King's special award, which will be granted at the LGBT wing of the international FITUR tourism fair held in Madrid at the end of January. Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letizia, arranged a national conference for representatives of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual communities last June, and spoke to

leaders of nationwide associations working to support those of minority sexual orientations and people who have undergone, or wish to undergo, gender reassignment surgery. This is the first time that such a meeting has been called by reigning Monarchs – not only in Spain, but anywhere on the planet - and HRHs Felipe and Letizia pledged to help in any way they could to promote equal rights and visibility for these communities. Now, the King will be given a 'rainbow-coloured' award at the FITUR LGBT fair in recognition of his support.

12 ARRESTED FOR DISTRIBUTING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY 4

The Spanish ‘Policia Nacional’ have arrested 12 people in Alicante for distributing child pornography on the Internet.

The ‘Policia Nacional’ explained that one of the men arrested had produced some videos which showed him sexually abusing two girls of his own family and also ‘hidden camera’ videos recorded on public roads showing various parts of children’s anatomy. These images, obtained without the victim’s permission, are known online as "candid".

Another of those arrested offered himself on the Internet as a babysitter for child-

care and was already working with children as an activities monitor. This man was also trying to contact children on the Internet under different virtual personalities, using techniques of ‘grooming’ to gain the trust of children.

Among those arrested are accountants, teachers, workers, truckers and even a retired 71 year-old man. In addition to the arrests, the ‘Policia Nacional’ raided 14 houses and removed 36 hard drives, 8 laptops, 19 pen-drives and 13 mobile phones. The material is being analysed by cyber officers in order to identify and locate potential new victims of abuse or sexual harassment. The operation was carried out by officers of the Grupo de Delitos Tecnológicos de la Brigada Provincial de Policía Judicial de Alicante y Unidad de Investigación Tecnológica de la Comisaría General de Policía Judicial.

FATHER STABS DAUGHTER’S RAPIST A father from lorca (Murcia) stabbed his 11-year-old daughter's rapist in the early hours of Wednesday morning and left him fighting for his life in hospital. Officers heard that the child's parents, both Ecuadorian, had left the house for work on Tuesday 30 minutes before their daughter was due to set off for school and that the accused, of the same nationality, had taken advantage of their absence to gain entry to the family home. He claimed he was a family friend and had been sent round to look after the schoolgirl while her parents were at work and until she set off for school. The 36-year-old man then raped her and left the property. He returned the same time – around 8.00AM – the next morning, believing the parents to be out of the house and with the intention of repeating the attack, but the mother and father were at home and had been told by their daughter what had happened. The girl's father stabbed him in a fit of rage. Whilst the rapist is being treated in hospital, National Police are investigating the incident, but the 11-year-old's father has not been arrested as yet.

SPAIN MINIMUM WAGE TOO LOW The Spanish minimum wage of €648.60 ($730) a month is not sufficient to ensure a decent standard of living, the Council of Europe has said in a new report. Around 200,000 Spanish workers earn the country's minimum wage (SMI) which comes in at €9,079.37 a year.

After seeing a freeze in 2014, the SMI was bumped up in 2015 — by €3.30 a month, with major unions describing the 0.5 percent rise as "unjust" and "insufficient" when it comes to regaining purchasing power lost during the country's economic crisis.

Unions said Spain was falling down in terms of its obligations in terms of the European Social Charter, which recommends a minimum wage of 60 percent of the average wage.

That cut-off would see Spain with an SMI of over €900 a month: the average annual salary in Spain in 2012 was €22,726, according to Spain's national statistics agency, the INE.

Now the Council of Europe — a group which has no law making powers — has agreed, saying Spain's minimum wage "for workers in the private sector does not secure a decent standard of living".

GREAT SUCCESS FOR AlbIR dOGGy dAy OUT

The money raised from the 1st dog Festival at Albir golf course on January 18th is the first step in an ongoing process to help abandoned dogs. The Alfaz del Pi Dogs Owners Association (APPA), in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, organized the festival which brought together more than 600 people. Vanessa Pareja, spokeswoman of APPA, said: “This 1st Dogs and Adoptions Festival has been a success; people are becoming more aware of the importance of caring about our pets and not abandoning them”. The event was organised to provide new homes for dogs living in shelters and foster homes, and of the 15 animals that were presented at the golf course, happily 9 of them were rehomed. FISHER’S HOUSE TO BE DEMOLISHED

The Spanish Superior Court has ordered that a property in Alfaz del Pi be demolished because of a breach of the rules when improvements were made. The house was built in the 60s inside the Natural Park in the Amerador and is called ‘The fisher’s house’ by the locals.

It is a landmark building on the edge of the cliff next to the lighthouse at Albir and can be seen by everyone. The Town Hall has tried its best to help the building survive and will keep all legal options open, however the deadline for any other preventative actions ends on the 20th February.

FIGHT FOR FREE TRAM TRAVEl FOR AVE TRAIN PASSENGERS Isabel bonig, Head of Infrastructures of the Conselleria, visited Calpe in order to open an exhibition on the “Centenary of the TRAM”, and to discuss the its future, which is an important way of communication for the districts of la Marina. During her visit, the Mayor of Calpe, Cesar Sanchez, asked her about the possibility of giving free tickets for TRAM Linea 9 to passengers of the AVE Train (High Speed Spanish Trains). A surprised Bonig said that she could not see any profit in AVE Train passengers disembarking at Alicante with a free ticket for travel on Linea 9 between Benidorm and Denia. This was a bit of a disappointment as TRAM Linea 1 (Alicante to Benidorm) already has this option running, with all the tourism advantages that it brings. She argued that the distance the trains must cover from Benidorm to Denia is too large for them to make a profit. However, that is not the opinion of many towns. They consider that AVE users arriving from Madrid and other Spanish provinces would love to have a free ticket, and then Altea and Marina Alta towns (a total of 18 stops) such as Calpe, Benissa, Gata de Gorgos, Teulada, La

benidorm (the ‘Mediterranean Manhattan’) will look even more like New york in the future. The skyline will stay the same, but the Council has decided that every time it repairs or creates new pavement, it will now use printed concrete. The Mayor, Augustin Navarro, announced that Benidorm will follow the example of

large cities such as New York and Paris, who have used this type of concrete for decades. It has the advantage of being cheaper and easier to work with. ‘La Cala’ is the first area using this material, which is also easier to clean, however not everyone is happy… there are already locals complaining about the material and the chosen colour.

MOlOTOV COCKTAIl ATTACK ON GyPSy lANE

last year a 56-year-old man tried to kill a couple whilst they slept at their home in the ‘Partida de Armanello’ (Gypsy lane) close to the outdoor market in benidorm. The aggressor used some kind of ‘Molotov cocktail’ (glass bottles filled with petrol) to burn the house, but the couple escaped and there was no damage to the property. Ten months later, the Alicante Provincial Court has sentenced the man to eight years in prison and ordered him to pay €1,200 to each victim.

FANCy A CRUISE? ITS EASy WITH FREd OlSEN ANd bENI CONNECT LOCAL COMPANY BENICONNECT JOINS HANDS WITH FRED OLSEN CRUISE LINES 28th Jan - 3rd Feb

After attending the recent event in Benidorm organised by Beniconnect together with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, I was able to understand why taking a holiday cruise is so popular. The event had an overwhelming response with an audience of over 300 attendees.

I was able to learn so much about the amazing and unique facts of taking a cruise with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. The most important factor for me was that the Cruise Line firm is a family run business that operates with one main aim, and that is to “know each and every individual passenger and make sure they have a wonderful cruise experience”. A company that cares about its customers has now collaborated with another local family run Travel Agency, Beniconnect. The presentation for the travel industry and press officials was held at the Benidorm Casino Mediterraneo last Tuesday evening. This was followed by the public event on Wednesday morning, both hosted by Kate Wooldrige, Sales Manager of Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, Gema Amor, and the Director General of Tourism from Valencia, Sebastian Fernandez Miralles, also attended on Tuesday and the welcome speech was given by Juan José Perez Parker, Director of Beniconnect.

The presentation was very informative and highlighted the benefits on offer from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. Their principles and suc-

cess is built from being “hands on” in every step of the organisation. The business is based in the UK with headquarters in Norway. The fleet of four fantastic cruise ships are kept in the UK, where 90% of their passengers are from. The new collaboration with Beniconnect will give extra benefits to those who want to join the ships from Spain, as well as having a range of other specific cruises available, without having to fly on to the departure port.

The British ex-pat market brings a huge potential to the business and with the personal touch that is offered with a traditional experience. The four ships offer all of the luxury and ambiance that anyone could wish for and are

13

much smaller than the massive ships you normally see. The “Balmoral” can accommodate 1349 passengers and is the largest of the fleet, and the smallest “The Black Watch” has a modest 800 passengers. The ships can be docked at much smaller ports, which mean many more locations. The entire crew speaks English, together with all of its announcements, and the currency on board is UK sterling.

Beniconnect is the exclusive partner and can offer full information to anyone who is interested in the amazing range of Fred Olsen Cruises. Contact Beniconnect on 965 850 790 or look at their web site www.beniconnect.com

TRAVEL AROUND Benissa 28th Jan - 3rd Feb

Benissa has a surprise at every corner. A landscape full of contrasts, surroundings full of history, endless leisure possibilities and the friendliness of its people, are all an invitation to enjoy everything this town has to offer. It is a true pleasure to take a stroll through Benissa's perfectly conserved Historical Centre and discover the living museum that is comprised of the buildings of the old town. Cobbled narrow streets, hundred-year-old walls and ancient stately homes that take us back to the medieval era. HISTORy Years of Iberian, Roman, Arab and Christian history have formed the character of this town named Benissa. Going back thousands of years, remains like small cave paintings have been discovered that suggest the area was inhabited in the Prehistoric era. Coins and amphoras are signs of Roman presence in our lands. Nevertheless the origin of Benissa’s name (Banu-Issa) is considered to be Arabic. Even today most of the rural areas of the municipality conserve their Arabic names. This confirms the historian’s theory that points to the presence of an important Arabic population when James 1st “the Conqueror” arrived at Benissa in 1248. After the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 the land was repopulated by settlers from the Pyrenees, Catalonia and Aragon. It was in this era that the town’s walls were built. Today only small traces of these walls remain.

PURISSIMA xIQUETA PARISH CHURCH

During the first decade of the 20th century (1902) work began on the construction of the new parish church dedicated to the Puríssima Xiqueta that celebrated the centenary of the laying of its foundation stone in 2002. Thanks to several private donations and the contributions of all the citizens of Benissa the new church was consecrated in 1929, and some years later replaced the San Pedro Apóstol as parish church. The building is of neo-gothic style with three naves that stands our for its central dome of great beauty, a skylight over the centre of the transept, and the altar, with the shrine containing the painted tablet with the image the Puríssima Xiqueta that is believed to have be painted by the artist Juan de Juanes. During the feast in honour of the Purísima Xiqueta, celebrated every year on the 4th Sunday of April, the shrine is lowered from its place on the altar with the help of an ingenious hydraulic system so that the image can be carried through the streets in the procession. This emotive ceremony is known “La Baixada de la Puríssima” (The lowering of the Virgin) MEdITERRANEAN GASTRONOMy

Benissa can also be known by way of its flavours and scents. The Valencian gastronomy is completed here through its original and tasty dishes, its spices, seafood, fruits and vegetables, and a special care which turns the food on your table into a special morsel. Names such as “Borreta de melva”, “Bull amb ceba”, “Mullador de pelleta”, “Sang amb ceba”, “Putxero de polp”, “Mullador de sagatxo”, “Coques al calfó i amb mullador” whet everybody’s appetite. The variety of rice dishes is nearly endless. Specially remarkable are “arròs al forn”, “arròs amb fava pelada”, “arròs amb fessols i naps”, “arròs de senyoret”, “arròs a banda” and many more. Hand-made sausages deserve a special mentioned. They have carried both Benissa’s and the Marina’s names all over the nation thanks to their delicious flavours and to the ancient recipes still used by local butchers. ECOlOGICAl COAST PATH Benissa has a 4km long rocky coastline with cliffs and small coves surrounded by pine trees. An ecotrail runs along the coastline and can be enjoyed throughout the year thanks to the mild climate. The Paseo Ecológico (EcoTrail) is the best trip along the coast of Benissa. The starting point is the “Tourist Info Benissa Playa - Aula de la Mar” (Tourist Office Sea Rooms) services that operate in the “Casa dels Cent Vents” (House of the Hundred Winds). The trail consists of two routes: south and north, and runs all along the coast with information panels describing local customs and history, the varied flora and geographical aspects of the coastline, and offers an easy and attractive walk.

How to get to benissa Car: Road access is easy and quick. AP-7 motorway exit 63 leads to the N-332 main road. Fly: Direct flights to Alicante & Valencia (“El Altet” airport 80 Km and “Manises” airport 110 Km.) Train: Railways stations at Alicante and Valencia that, via Madrid and Barcelona, communicate with any destination.

CRYPTIC CROSSWORD

wE25 WEEKLY HOROSCOPES ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

You feel its time to get plans up and running now. You’ve talked them through form every angle, and you’ve patiently weighed up all pros and cons. Now it’s time for action. You’re like a coiled spring waiting to erupt, so try to remain mellow as you seem a tad uptight.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

There have been a lot of new projects milling about in your brain for a while now, so maybe its time to dust them off, get the ball rolling and put them into practice. You’re moving in the right direction and others are more than happy to help. Result!! GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

Try not to argue for your limitations today or you may unearth even more. Try to stay focused and confident and go after goals with gusto. With the moon in your twelfth house, life will be quieter than usual, but it won’t be long before it all balances out. CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

Life is finally levelling out in all areas, so work money health and love should all be going in the right direction. Get mundane tasks out of the way as fast as you can, and it then leaves you the rest of the day to do all of the things that appeal to you most. Enjoy. lEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

It’s an emotionally challenging day where you’ll swing from extreme highs to extreme lows in the blink of an eye, but yet you’ll still enjoy it. You don t mind a little upheaval in your life, and you certainly won’t be backing down from heated arguments. Go Leo.

Scribble Pad...

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

You could experience a confidence crisis today if new projects you’ve involved in, that you don’t really understand, lack and sort of major progress. Your creative potential is good, especially round the home zone, so maybe a hobby could become an earner. lIbRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

Routines feel too restrictive today and you’d rather have the freedom to pursue whatever it is that takes your fancy at any given time. It’s hard to concentrate on what you feel are irrelevant issues so you won’t, but just be careful or you may miss a vital clue.

SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

Keeping hopes and dreams realistic has always been hard for you as you like to reach for the stars in everything you do, but if you rein it in today there’s no reason why dreams cant come true. There’s a bright future ahead of you, so take it at a slower pace and enjoy the ride.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-december 21st)

As you take time out to think about your hopes dreams and long term goals, you’ll be more than happy to let the responsibilities of your life slip a bit today. It’s a temporary respite. Why not meet a friend for lunch and go shopping in the afternoon. Be frivolous tonight. CAPRICORN (december 22nd-January 20th)

Enjoy the positive friendly actions of others today, and be glad they’re in your life. You’re a bit quieter and more subdued than you’ve been in a while today, but there’s no doubting your sincerity. When it comes to love talk though, you’ll lay it on with a shovel. AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

It’s just as well you’re quite organised today because you’ll be so busy you’ll hardly have time to breathe. Neither will you be able to give certain matters as much attention as you’d wish. Try to avoid disputes that have nothing to do with you. Have a quiet night.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

You’re happy to spend as much time as you can with loved ones today, and others’ invitations will only bore you. I’m sure like me, you’d rather put your feet up in front of the fire instead of waiting in the cold night air for a taxi after a night on the town.

consumption figures were the same as before – the reader questioned the sales staff at the dealership, but immediately ran into a brick wall.

A spokesman for the importer has been unable to shed any further light on the subject either, suggesting firstly that the Euro 6 engines may not be available in RHD market Touaregs, and also indicating any LCT savings might be offset by higher landed costs anyway. In the UK, the Touareg is marketed with SCR and coasting function, but the CO2 emissions of 173g/km for the loweroutput diesel V6 amount to 7.45L/100km – even higher than the Euro 5 150 TDI engine in Australia.

Volkswagen has dropped the 4XMotion variant from the local lineup. Prices have risen $4000 (now $67,990) for the base-grade Touareg 150 TDI and by $1200 for the higher-output V6 TDI model – now $81,990. The V8 TDI R-Line model continues to be priced at $114,990. Equipment has been reportedly upgraded, although Volkswagen is yet to release official information, but is expected to do so within a few days.

Getting your adult dog vaccinated may be more controversial than you think. Some people, including many vets, believe adult pets are overvaccinated and think that too many vaccinations pose health risks. Others believe vaccinations should be performed yearly to keep dangerous diseases like distemper from getting a hold on the pet population like they did in decades past.

None

Your adult dog may not need annual vaccinations and can instead have titer tests — tests that check a dog’s immunity levels — to determine exactly which vaccinations are needed. One exception is the rabies vaccine, which is regulated by law and may be required every one to three years, depending on where you live and the type of rabies vaccine the vet uses.

THREAdWORMS 28th Jan - 3rd Feb

Threadworms are small, thin, white, thread-like worms between 2 mm and 13 mm long. They infect human intestines. They are common in children, but anyone of any age can be affected.

Threadworm infection is not normally harmful, the main problem being troublesome itching and disturbed sleep. Sometimes the affected area can become sore. In severe cases the child may develop tummy pain, loss of appetite and weight loss. In girls, eggs may be laid in the tube to the bladder and cause problems passing urine or bedwetting.

Threadworms live for about 5-6 weeks in the intestines .During the night, the female worms lay tiny eggs around the anus (back passage). The eggs are only visible with a microscope, but cause itching around the anus. The sufferer then scratches around the anus to relieve the itching without realising during sleep. During scratching, eggs get on to the fingers and under the nails. The eggs are then transferred to the mouth from the fingers. This creates a cycle of infection that goes on and on.

In addition to this, threadworm eggs can survive for up to two weeks outside the body. They can live in clothing and bedding, end up in carpets and even tooth-

brushes! Treatment for threadworms is a combination of medication and hygiene measures. All household members, including adults and those without symptoms, must be treated. See your Family doctor for treatment and take note of the following instructions: - Wash nightwear, bed linen, towels, and cuddly toys. This can be done at normal temperatures so long as the washing is well rinsed. - Vacuum and damp-dust your home. Throw out the cloth after use. Pay particular attention to bedrooms, including vacuuming mattresses. - Thoroughly clean the bathroom and throw out the cloth after use. - Wear close-fitting underpants or knickers in bed to help prevent scratching. Wearing cotton gloves to bed can also help. - Every morning shower or have a bath to get rid of any eggs laid overnight. You must do this straight away after getting up from bed. - Change and wash nightwear every day. Anybody can catch threadworms. Although part of the treatment is strict hygiene measures, this is solely to break the life cycle of the worms and does not mean that sufferers are in any way unclean!

CHICKEN POx IN PREGNANCY

29

Chicken pox (caused by the varicella zoster virus) is extremely infectious, the air borne virus easily passing from person to person. A person with chicken pox is infectious from 2 days before the rash appears until all the lesions have crusted over (usually 5-7 days after the appearance of the rash).

Chicken pox will affect approximately 3 in 1000 pregnant women and may have consequences for both the mother and the fetus. The infection always tends to be more severe in adults than in children and for the pregnant woman it can be very unpleasant. The most common complication for pregnant women who develop chicken pox is pneumonia. This affects 10% of cases of which 1% will actually die. Another serious (but uncommon) complication is encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). Very rarely the virus may affect the heart muscle, the liver, the pancreas, the kidneys and the eyes. For the unborn baby the risk of complications will vary depending on the ges-

tation of the fetus. If the mother becomes infected during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, the baby will have a 1 in 200 chance of developing Fetal Varicella Syndrome (FVS) which can cause fetal abnormalities. Between 13 and 20 weeks the risk rises to 1 in 50. After 20 weeks the risk of FVS is very low and not documented after 28 weeks. Between 28 and 36 weeks gestation the virus stays in the baby’s body (without symptoms) but may become active in the first few years of life presenting as shingles. After 36 weeks gestation a baby may be born already infected with chicken pox.

If a pregnant woman knows she is not immune to chicken pox and is in contact with the virus she should consult her doctor as soon as possible.

There is a vaccine available that protects against Varicella which should be considered by all non-immune women before they become pregnant (at least 1 month prior to conception) or in the post natal period.

PACQUIAO V MAyWEATHER GOOd WEEK FIGHT AlMOST CERTAIN AUSTRAlIA REACH 28th Jan - 3rd Feb

ASIAN CUP FINAl

Manny Pacquiao is almost certain his showdown with Floyd Mayweather will happen this spring - but warned of the consequences if it doesn't.

Pacquiao's advisors claim to have agreed to fight Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2 having accepted the terms and conditions laid out by the American.Mayweather's team, amid talk of a rematch with Miguel Cotto, insist there is no contract drawn up but are expected to make an announcement this weekend on Super Bowl Sunday. And Pacquiao - who claims he will gladly accept a smaller percentage of the purse to force the fight through - hinted it was now or never for potentially the richest fight in boxing history.

"I think it will happen, I believe that," he told Ringside Special, which you can see at 10.15pm on Wednesday January 28 on Sky Sports 1. "If this doesn't happen now I don't think it will, so now is the time. "If you ask me what the percentage is, it's 80-20 [that it will happen].I

think he's got pressure. He's got no alibi - blood testing is no longer a problem, Bob Arum the promoter is no longer a problem, now there are no more problems. "The fans are pressuring him. I tell them we have agreed everything, the rules and regulations are not a problem. "And if you want it higher, I am happy with that. I will take 40 [per cent of the purse] to 60. I'm OK with that - for the sake of the fans. "We are just waiting for you to sign the contract." Pacquiao and Mayweather were on

course to fight as far back as 2011 before the issue of blood testing came between them, when Mayweather claimed that while he was happy to be tested randomly, his rival was not. But with Pacquiao now adamant it will not get in the way of a massive showdown, the Filipino believes his rival's legacy will be damaged if they do not square up in the ring.

"If he doesn't want to fight in his boxing career it is bad for him," he said. "But if he wants to fight, that is the best thing he can do."

AlFAZ FANTASy SPONSOREd by FOOTbAll lEAGUE Wow ! what a fantastic Weekend in the F.A.Cup 4th Round with 4 out of the top 6 Premier League Teams being knocked out means this Season's Fantasy League is blown wide open mainly because a lot top Players have gone out and will lose the extra points which could have been had if they had stayed in. There was 1 Monday Night Game and 12 F.A.Cup Ties involving Premier League Teams all contributing to this Week's Fantasy which produced 32 goals,10 clean sheets,27 yellow cards and 3 red ones. The 3 Players dismissed were 2 from Swansea Sigurdsson and Bartley and Sunderland's Jack Rodwell. Although there were 32 goals, most of them were scored by Players who are not in the Premier League which kept this Week's average score down to only 14 points(2nd lowest of the Season ). Despite all the mayhem in the F.A.Cup Dennis's Team The Potters managed to hold on to the top place in the Fantasy League even though his advantage was cut to 29 points by Dean's well traveled Globe Trotters. Two Teams are level in 3rd place with Keith's Team Max & Paddy and Lenny's Spreaders both 12 points behind the Globe Trotters. There was one stage before Christmas where Les's Team Have Not Got a Clue trailed the nearest Team at the bottom by over 50 points but now would you believe Jeff they are now only 1 point behind Danny's Team Boro Man Dan. There was only 10 Players who scored points in our Golden Boot League which is sponsored Leonard Knowles Construction. Keith's Team Max & Paddy didn't score a point but they still managed to keep a strong 39 point advantage over Vince's Team Bars a Loner.Neil's Blue Moon Rising and Micky's Team Woodside are locked in joint 4th spot after moving up several places to challenge the top 3. At the foot of the Table 2 Teams are sharing the load of holding everybody else up and they are Winnie's Le Hombre Rioja and Colin's Bentley Boys. Lesley's Side Laws Lads extended their lead at the top of our Mark Carter Ladies Section to 41 points over Sharon's team Shaztastic while at the other end of the scale Gil's Kippax lost ground on Winnie's Le Hombre Rioja and they are now 23 points adrift at the bottom. Our U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League is shaping up to be the most open and exciting for Years. So far 5 different have reached the Summit. At the moment Harley's Ginger Ninja have regained the top spot and are only 2 points infront of Scott's

Team Dog Dale. Last Weeks Leaders Sponge Bob XI have slipped down to 3rd and are just 8 points ahead of Super Rhys.Down in the basement Adam's Team What's the Point closed the gap on Calum's Rees Red Devils to only 9 points. Two of our Ladies Teams have the privilege of going into our Monthly Premier Imports Draw for a case of fine Wine and they are Lyndsey's Juke Box Dream who was this Weeks top scorer with a tally of 35 points and Jeanette's Jin's Dream Team who got the lowest score of minus 1. Manager of the Month for January is being kindly sponsored by Danny at Sarita's Restaurant in Albir who provide the best Indian Cuisine in the area and with one week to go Scott's Emm You Eff See have a small 3 point advantage over Harley's Ginger Ninja. Two Teams are in joint 3rd place 6 points behind the Leaders and they are Dean's Globe Trotters and Tom's Benidorm Trotters. Janski's Jewels and The Bulgars are also well in contention in 5th & 6th place. The Fastest Moving Team this Week is Lyndsey's Juke Box Dream who climbed up 24 places to No 97 which qualifies her for a super Good Olde English Breakfast for 2 at Rafters sponsored by Happy Gooner Kate. At the time of going to Press I have not had time to collate all the F.A.Cup points so by the time you read this I'm sure the up to date League Table will be up on our website which is www.alfazffl.com also don't forget this Week the 4th Round of our very popular K.O.Cup Competition take place with the pick of the Ties being Dani's Brendan's Boys taking on Keith's Team Max & Paddy which is a real Liverpool v Chelsea clash for the Managers.Keep in touch with what's going on in the Fantasy League by visiting our Website or if you can't access a computer you can always pop into Hepburns or The Local in Albir and get all the latest News and Results.

Hosts Australia reached the final of the Asian Cup after a 20 victory over United Arab Emirates at Hunter Stadium in Newcastle. both goals came inside the opening 15 minutes as Trent Sainsbury headed home from a corner before Jason davidson doubled the advantage with his first international goal. The Socceroos meanwhile will bid to win the tournament for the first time when they take on South Korea - who are yet to concede a goal - in Saturday's decider at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

FARREll OUT OF ENGlANd OPENER

Fly-half Owen Farrell has been ruled out of England’s opening Six Nations match with Wales next Friday because of injury. The Saracens star hurt his knee during his club's Champions Cup defeat to Clermont Auvergne on Sunday.

England coach Stuart lancaster has three other flyhalves in his squad ahead the Wales showdown George Ford, who is likely to start, Stephen Myler and danny Cipriani.

MURRAy EASES INTO SEMIS

38

The British No 1 looked in scintillating form as he eased his way to his 15th Grand Slam semi-final 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 and set up a clash with Czech Tomas Berdych, who had earlier dispatched Rafael Nadal in similar fashion.

The victory improved Murray's record against Australian players to 11-0 and saw him produce 13 aces and just one double fault, with the only minor blip coming when he let a break of serve slip in the third set.

Murray used all his experience to gain the upper hand in the first set. Playing in his 22nd Grand Slam quarter-final and 16th in succession, Murray baited his 19-year-old opponent into unforced errors on his way to taking the opening set 6-3 in front of a 15,000-strong crowd at the Rod Laver Arena. Both players held serve comfortably in the

opening exchanges, but Murray soon had the edge in longer rallies and began to show his dominance.

The sixth seed deliberately took the pace off the ball forcing Kyrgios to make backto-back forehand errors to lose his serve in the sixth game.Andy Murray reached his fifth Australian Open semi-final in six years after a dominant straight-sets victory over Nick Kyrgios in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Tomas berdych ended a 17-match losing streak to shock an out-ofsorts third seed Rafael Nadal in straight sets to reach the semifinals at the Australian Open on Tuesday.

The Czech won three of his first four meetings with the 14-time Grand Slam champion but had not tasted victory over the Spaniard since 2006, his 17 straight defeats equalling a record in the open era. The seventh seed came through in straight sets 6-2 6-0 7-6 (7-5) and will face either Britain's Andy Murray or Australian Nick Krygios for a place in the final. Only Bjorn Borg over Vitas Gerulaitis and Ivan Lendl against Tim Mayotte

had chalked up 17-match head-tohead winning streaks on the ATP Tour.

Nadal's performance was so ordinary that he narrowly avoided crashing to his worst Grand Slam result on the number of games won. He won only six games against Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-final at the 2009 US Open.

The world No 3 also failed to win a game in the second set for his first 'bagel' at a Grand Slam since against Roger Federer in the 2006 Wimbledon final and Andy Roddick in the second round at the 2004 US Open.

This was the 30th Grand Slam since he was 'bageled' by Federer nine years ago.

CHElSEA I N TO C U P FINAl

28th Jan - 3rd Feb

branislav Ivanovic kept his head as Chelsea edged a frenetic, ill-tempered clash with liverpool to advance to the Capital One Cup final. An Ivanovic header in the fourth minute of extra-time proved the difference as Chelsea responded from the humiliating FA Cup defeat to League One Bradford to advance to a first final of Jose Mourinho's second spell as boss.

A 1-1 first-leg draw at Anfield meant it was all down to the Stamford Bridge clash and the 10 victory for Mourinho means he has now won four of his five contests with Brendan Rodgers, once his protege and now a bitter rival.

It is now between Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur who play – 7.45pm Wednesday Night for the last place at Wembley.

FA CUP 5TH ROUNd dRAW

bradford's reward for knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup is a fifthround showdown with either Sunderland or Fulham.

The League One side battled back from two goals down to secure a famous 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge and Monday’s draw handed them home advantage against the winner of the fourth-round replay.

Bradford's co-chairman Mark Lawn believes that neither Sunderland nor Fulham will fancy the trip to West Yorkshire.

"We're at home. I think we can win at home," he told Sky Sports News HQ. "They won't want to come down here and get this lot (the fans) bouncing - and they can get this stadium bouncing. I don't think Sunderland or Fulham will want to come to Valley Parade."

If Manchester United can get past Cambridge in their replay, they will travel to the winners of Preston and Sheffield United, while

holders Arsenal host Middlesbrough - the Sky Bet Championship highfliers who won at Manchester City on Saturday.

Liverpool and Bolton will replay for the right to go to Crystal Palace, while Leicester and Aston Villa meet in a Midlands derby. West Brom face West Ham at home, while Stoke will travel to Blackburn after defeating Rochdale 4-1 in Monday's tie.

Derby play host to Reading in an all-Championship affair to round off the draw, but it is the enduring appeal of Bradford that is likely to hold the headlines.

League Cup finalists two years ago, they are making further waves this year and their stunning win at Chelsea will be spoken of for years to come.

The last time they faced Sunderland saw them lose 3-0 in December 2003, while they have to go all the way back to 1994 to find their last meeting with Fulham, a goalless draw.
