OUT AND ABOUT

Dear Readers

April showers seems to be the theme over the past few days, but I can now announce the latest weather forecast is a full on mix of sun, sun and more sun. May Day this coming Friday, is a national holiday across the regions, so you may find a number of local shops and services closed, including banks and public offices.

For most Spanish people (and also the British Ex Pats working here) it is a day's holiday to enjoy and is an ideal way to start the month of May, a long weekend that many locals will extend with an extra day making a “long” weekend. The Spanish word for this common practice is “Puente”, which translated means “Bridge”.

To help you choose where to go and what to do this weekend, we have included some of the latest restaurant reviews on pages 30 and 31. Plus for the best deals, discounts and promotions see our website at www.vistacostablanca.com, where you can see all of the VISTA CARD news. In addition, we also have some fantastic and exciting news for you to read next week, with even more ways to introduce our readers to the best bargains in town.

Please don't forget that if you are involved in any organisation or charity, or if you can tell us about any local events (especially charity fundraising) or if there are any summer BBQ's going on, please get in touch. Our email is buzz@vistacostablanca.com. Meantime, I hope you enjoy this weeks news and enjoy the extra pages, including our weekly edition of "Property Plus", eight pages dedicated to buying, selling and renting in the Costa Blanca.

Our recent expansion into more areas across the North Costa Blanca is part of our ongoing plan to reach out to more and more British Ex-Pats, and to be the best and most read local newspaper.

Happy reading!

NEARLY 20% OF THE POPULATION OF ALICANTE PROVINCE ARE FOREIGNERS

FROM FRONT PAGE... However, they have also seen a net decline of over 50% in numbers, with 46,000 having left Alicante province alone during the last 3 years. In second place are the Rumanians, with 27,000 nationals living in Alicante, although in their case, their numbers have dropped by 20% over the past 3 years.

In spite of the number of Spanish nationals in the region increasing by 6,966, the overall loss is again due to the emigration of foreign nationals. British, Rumanians, Germans, Ecuadorians and Colombians left in droves, with an average of 60 foreigners leaving Alicante each day during 2014.

Currently, 362,733 foreigners reside in the province, making up 19.6% of the population, which, in comparison to other Spanish provinces, still represents a high proportion of non-

Spanish. Indeed, in 58 Alicante municipalities, more than 20% of the inhabitants are immigrants. Population in Comunidad Valenciana falls as foreigners go home

On January 1st this year, the census counted 46,600,949 inhabitants in Spain, of which 41,882,085 were Spanish and 4,718,864 were foreign nationals. Amongst the foreign population, EU citizens decreased by 114,304 to 1.94 million, whilst the number of non-EU nationals fell by 190,319 to 2.77 million. The biggest losses by ethnic group were observed amongst the Rumanians (45,864), Ecuadorians (42,636) and Columbians (30,919), whilst the number of Russians, Chinese and Ukrainians rose, by 3,126, 5,310, and 2,317, respectively.

Spain or deceased, while the number of Spaniards returning to Spain after living abroad over the past year was only 134,231 (0.3%) resulting in a 170,392 head decrease in the population of Spain.

This fall in population nationally is reflected in the Comunidad Valenciana which has now registered two consecutive years of population decrease to 4.9 million people. Alicante province is now home to a total of 1,852,921 people, 15,526 less than a year ago. This number represents a steeper decline than both Valencia and Castellon put together, losing 6,819 and 5,328 individuals, respectively.

Unemployment and a lack of job security are thought to be the primary contributing factors for this loss of foreigners, who have either left for other Spanish regions or returned to their country of origin.

FALSE INSURANCE CLAIMS EVERY MINUTE An employee of a company falls from a forklift truck owned and maintained by another firm. The employer of the injured man files a claim.

The insurer, in this case AIG, is puzzled, and sends one of its investigators to look into the matter. The detective uncovers a fraud with an unusual history: the administrator of the company had been having a long-running affair with the head of the company that owned the forklift truck, which not only didn’t have insurance, but was also employing immigrants without papers and used defective machinery. The pair cooked up a scheme to free her of any legal responsibility for the accident, thus avoiding the possibility of the authorities discovering what she had been doing.

This clearly illustrates that the fall in population is caused by the fact that 304,623 foreigners have either left

ed in 2014, which would have cost Spain’s insurance companies around €426 million according to a report published this month by UNESPA, which represents 30 companies in the sector. In recognition of his efforts, the investigator who uncovered the

involving several people. A Spanish fishing vessel sank off the coast of Africa in near perfect weather conditions and while at anchor. The crew was rescued by a nearby ship. The insurers, Mapfre, noted that the vessel had gone down in less than three hours, which is unusually quick. The company then discovered that the boat h a d undergone major repairs six years earlier that had destabilized it, although the ship owner denied this.

“Every minute and 16 seconds a false insurance claim is made in Spain”

This is just one of the 156,000 attempts at insurance fraud detect-

aforementioned scam was a runner up in UNESPA’s annual awards.

The report shows that the majority of insurance fraud is for less than €500, and that since the crisis began in 2008, growing numbers of people, as opposed to businesses, have tried to fool their insurers. There are even criminal gangs in operation who are prepared to fake car accidents.

Other frauds reported by UNESPA were even more complicated,

“We shouldn’t generalize. We’re not pursuing something widespread here, but there are actions that damage society as a whole,” says Juan Antonio Fernández of the Pelayo insurance company. At the same time, as UNESPA’s Eduardo González points out: “Every minute and 16 seconds a false insurance claim is made in Spain.”

3.6% OF PATIENTS’ TEST POSITIVE FOR BREAST AND COLON CANCER By Russell Ash

Almost 5,500 people aged between 50 and 69 have participated in the Colorectal Cancer Prevention Program since it was established in 2013.

The program is there to detect problems before any symptoms appear and during 2014 it helped to diagnose pre-cancer adenomas in 220 people and colorectal cancer in 18 others.

About 18,000 people from Villajoyosa, Callosa d’En Sarria, La Nucia and Alfaz del Pi have been invited to

participate in this program, which will expand to every health centre over the region, according to the Valencian Regional Government.

In 2014, around 7,700 women participated in the Breast Cancer Prevention Program, which registered 3.11 tumours in every thousand women checked, so it detected breast tumours in 240 women.

The figures are worrying because they checked a total of 13,200 people and almost 500 tested positive, which means a percentage of 3.6% which is a high number of affected people.

LANDSLIDES CLOSE DENIA’S CASTLE TUNNEL April 29th – May 5th 2015

Last Monday, the Town Hall of Denia had to close the tunnel which crosses under the castle, after landslides occurred in the ‘Ronda de Muralles’ area. They have installed security fences and informative posters to dissuade visitors from entering the tunnel.

A local engineer has visited the area in order to evaluate the situation and the risks. This episode reopens the debate on the need to invest money in improving the fortress, which has been not receiving much attention lately.

This tunnel is really important because it allows residents to cross from the town’s northern area to the ‘Calle La Mar’ and town centre. It was built during the

Ten years ago the Valencian Regional Government considered the Sierra Gelada Mountains as a Natural Park to protect the environment. This year it is going to be awarded as the ‘Natural Park of June 2015’. At a general meeting last Thursay, the Regional Head of Environment, Maite Camins, explained the award to representatives of the surrounding towns (Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi and Altea).

The Sierra Gelada (Iced Mountains) is so called because of its orientation (which creates a colder microclimate) and because of the optical effect caused by the moonlight on the limestone.

It is home to valuable vegetation from Mediterranean forests, and the sea grass meadows. It is also home to many seabirds.

NO MORE MOORING AT SECOND CHANCE THE CALA DE LA MINA CHARITY THANKS YOU

The area of ‘Cala de la Mina’ in Albir is one of the most used places to anchor boats and jet-skis and this is putting the preservation of the natural environment at risk.

The Town Hall of Alfaz del Pi wants to stop this problem (which increases during the summer season) and will ban the access of motorboats.

Extra buoys 200 metres off the coast will be added to those already placed every summer. These prevent boat and jet-skis approaching the beaches and keeps bathers safe.

This line will be extended to the ‘Cala de la Mina’ reaching the Albir Lighthouse cape.

The Mayor of Alfaz del Pi, Vicente Arques, explained that this measure will protect and preserve this natural area and its fauna and flora, especially the Mediterranean Sea grasses (Posidonia Oceanica) which has been affected by the pollution of motorboats in the past.

Other activities, such as snorkelling, diving, kayaking and paddle surfing will be allowed and promoted by the Alfaz del Pi Town Hall. The athletes who practise these sports will have the enjoyment of a new reserved area without any danger. By closing the ‘Cala de la Mina’, a new marine nature reserve will be created. WILLY LEEMAN JOINS ROAD CV-751 IS OPEN EUROPEAN TEAM

Tell us about yourself?

I am Belgian. I was born in a village near Antwerp, the second child of a working–class family with nine children. I have been married twice. I have two children from my first marriage and my second wife and I have another three children. I also have four grandchildren. When I finished my studies, I worked as a Civil Servant with the Belgian Ministry of Justice in the Commercial Court of Saint Niklaas.

In 1967 I began to work in the consular service of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked in the consulate of the following countries – Germany (Bonn), Brazil, (Río de Janeiro & Brasilia), Portugal (Lisbon), Argentina (Buenos Aires), Spain (Barcelona), Cuba (La Havana), South Africa (Cape Town), Colombia (Bogotá), Mexico and again in Colombia. After that I was Consul in Alicante from 2008 to 2011. Since then I have lived in Alfaz.

Why did you decide to join the European Team in Alfaz?

I was introduced to the European Team through a Belgian friend. The European Team is part of the PP of Alfaz. It seemed to me that to be able bring improvements to the town in which we live is an interesting concept, knowing that, through our efforts, we can make it a better place.

tion of this community comes from other countries.

Are you excited about this project?

It is my dream to be able to make positive changes for Alfaz del Pi in Europe and I would like to realize this dream.

What will your work be in the new government if PP wins the elections?

Positions cannot be awarded until we have attained our goal so this question seems to me to be a little premature. First of all let us work to win but, hypothetically, I see myself in a role in tourism working with foreigners or working in connection with the European Union. My long professional experience in Foreign Affairs, my contacts and the fact that I speak six languages could be of great assistance and an added bonus.

How can citizens of other nationalities be helped?

Simply by attending to their needs in their own language, if this is what they want. The language barrier can be a problem when dealing with the municipal authorities. We have to bear in mind that 50% of the popula-

Will you travel in the European Union?

If we win the elections and the Mayor asks me to do some work in Brussels to get funds for our town, I will do so with pleasure. It is a big responsibility.

We must never be afraid of taking responsibilities. If we want to be successful we must believe in what we are doing. If we worry about what can go wrong we start with a negative attitude. A positive attitude can move mountains.

What are Maite Huerta’s most valuable qualities?

She is a charismatic person with a decisive approach. She fights for her ideals and her political ideas to make Alfaz a better place. Her slogan is “Change for the Better” and with her strong spirit and the help of her team she will bring about this change and the people of Alfaz will see a great improvement.

By Russell Ash

Last Friday (April 24th) the CV-751 which connects Altea and Alfaz del Pi was finally opened to traffic. The road has been resurfaced in order to improve its safety.

In the area between ‘Pintor Sorolla’ and ‘Miguel Angel’ streets, the curves and cambers have been softened and the existing watercourse at the intersection with the gorge has been eliminated, where the slope of the road has

been raised by about 5 metres.

The infrastructure of the gorge’s canalisation has also been improved in order to maximise the transversal drainage from the road, and significantly mitigate the effects of torrential rain.

These improvement works have cost €425.000 and have been paid for by the Alicante Province Government.

TWO DUTCH DRUG TRAFFICKERS CONVICTED

The two drug traffickers were arrested with more than four kilograms of amphetamines and fined a total of 133,320 euros.

Prosecutors asked for eight years in prison for each of the accused, but the sentence was reduced to 6½ years because the two men confessed. A woman who was also involved has been acquitted.

The accused are Dutch nationals and the men are aged 29 and 47.

The events date back to

June 2014, when the police started monitoring the three suspects.

Police Investigators planted a surveillance camera in their home, where they discovered that people continually went in and out of the property.

June 20 last year the Police conducted house searches and the arrests followed.

They found many packets of ecstasy pills plus other substances in the house, and also in the car of one of those arrested.

SCOOTER SAFETY

Eighteen months ago the Town Hall of Benidorm approved a new law to regularise mobility scooters, in order to avoid tourists using them for fun when they were drunk. This decision was taken after the constant problems caused by groups of drunken tourists driving the scooters like maniacs and having races.

Their behaviour was putting the safety of pedestrians at risk and also themselves because on many occa-

sions they were driving illegally on the road instead of the pedestrian areas.

The use of mobility scooters was limited to people aged 55 or over and to those who could certify a health risk or disability.

The companies who rent these vehicles have to be registered and must ask their clients to comply with these provisos. The fine for non compliance is between €50 to €90.

The opposition party (PP) said that there are still many problems “almost every day”, adding that in the Poniente area there are still intoxicated young people racing these scooters.

The Head of Mobility Department, M. Carmen Martinez, replied that only a few incidents have happened and that the Department is satisfied with the appliance of the new law. She added: “the opposition party has not said anything for over one year and they are talking now about a particular case”. By Fred Archer

HAPPY FEET! April 29th – May 5th 2015

By Fred Archer

For almost three years drinking water has been used at the 36 foot wash locations at ‘Mal Pas’ and ‘Parque de Elche’ in Benidorm and during this time over 50 million litres has been wasted. The rest of the Poniente beach and all the Levante beach foot wash showers are already using sea water. In fact, these 36 feet washing facilities were using sea water in the past but the improvement works of the third phase at the ‘Paseo de Poniente’ caused the disablement of the water pump, , they were temporary connected to the drinking water network but it has obviously been longer than only a temporary solution, as

the PP (the opposition party in Benidorm) claimed.

The Town Hall blames it on the Valencian Regional Government for their delay in authorizing the new pump replacement at the beach of ‘Mal Pas’. Now the Town Hall has the corresponding authorization, according to the head of PP in Benidorm, Lourdes Caselles, and the Head of Water Department, Jose Marcet, said it was only received two weeks ago and they will start the improvement works next week. He added that the all the foot wash facilities in Benidorm will use sea water before the summer.

€5,000 RAiSEd foR MABS

MABS Spring Ball organisers raised €5,000 for the cancer support charity smashing the €2,500 that they had hoped to collect from the stylish event. Director of MABS, Sue Reula, said: “We are constantly amazed by the support and generosity of the community and local businesses. We decided a Spring Ball was a good way to combine fundraising with a dash of style.”

The evening included top entertainment, a plush meal, followed by an auction, organised by Vince Heckman of Thermo Casa. They included a pair of autographed boxing shorts by legend Thomas 'The Hit Man' Hearns'. John H Stracey, British former world champ, took to the stage to join in the fun.

The first act were Il Divo as they performed their classic operatic repertoire, finishing with a rendition of Nessun Dorma earning them a thunderous applause. Next on stage was Charlyne with her

selection of Carpenters’ songs.

MABS’s Maria Killer and Sheila Fearon finished by selling raffle tickets with gifts from a lengthy list of sponsors: Sheila said: “We cannot thank the sponsors enough.” Sue Reula made a visual presentation of a brief history of MABS and the vital work the charity performs, and why more funding is needed for its maintenance and the upkeep of MABS hospice, which was opened last year. Sue said, “Every penny we raise goes to those who need it,” prompting an emotional standing ovation.

Steven Euesden picked the lucky ticket and a very happy Patricia Price collected the 32” LCD TV. It was definitely a ‘night to remember.

10 EXTRA POLICE FOR BENIDORM BEACHES April 29th – May 5th 2015

By Fred Archer

The Town Hall of Benidorm has approved the contracting of 10 extra police officers during the summer to increase safety on the beaches. They were supposed to start during the Easter holidays, but it was delayed due to processing problems. The Town Hall sent the proposal to the Valencian Regional Government on March 3rd this year, but they still have not received any formal answer, so they decided to go ahead in order to avoid the risk of not having any extra officers before the summer.

The Head of Safety Department, Jose Marcet, explained that they took this decision “because they are the exact same contracts as last year, and there was no objection”. Marcet also said that

Benidorm needs the extra officers to avoid problems of two years ago when illegal massagers, sellers and pickpockets roamed the beaches. This situation didn’t happened last year, as Marcet explained, thanks to the extra officers contracted exclusively to keep the beaches safe.

Awesome PArty

Back in January our fantastic friends from the "Costa Blanca españa Harley Davison Bikers club" invested an awesome €3,365 in our relleu self sufficiency project, thus helping to support “make a smile” change the lives of 24 challenged youngsters, and a whole load of kids in care.

Recently our biker friends were invited to come and see for themselves what we had spent their money on!!

After a walk through our magic self sufficiency project feeding lambs, baby goats, our happy chickens' pens, the lush veggie green-

houses and our strawberry plots, it was back to the main house to 'get the party started'.

The fabulous Gatecrash band rocked and rolled us all afternoon, while those kings of the BBQ Shop Calpe, Wayne and Steve cooked up a storm. An amazing day spent with some pretty amazing folk. A super big thank you to everyone, a very special thank you to our sponsors VillaMir Javea and that nice lady from The Bed Centre.

On a personal note, I have always been very proud of the work that our warriors are involved with but no more than when our Jr. Warriors made the day for “Make A Smile”. By Tony Grande

COSTA BLANCA'S GOT TALENT!

Costa Blanca's got talent, sponsored by Sunshine FM, has been running since January and has finally come to an end. Talented singers, dancers and variety acts travelled many miles to take part. Each round was held at The Emerald Isle, La Florida, Orihuela Costa, Alicante.

This year's winner, Nicolle York, has been through 7 rounds of competition, performing two songs each week, with one contestant eliminated from each group at each stage. The singers and musicians who got through the semi-finals were given 2 weeks to perform their own version of 'Once In My Life' by Stevie Wonder and a number of their own choice. Nicolle also sang and played keyboard to 'Jar of Hearts', originally by Cristina Perry.

U3A WINE GROUP

She gave 2 outstanding faultless performances and beat large bands and 7 others in the final. She won €2500 and a trophy! Nicolle is 16 and lives in Javea, currently

studying for her A levels, including Music and intends to continue her Music studies at university.

THE wine flowed as usual at Javea U3A’s monthly wine appreciation group (WAGs) on Wednesday (April 22).

Forty-one members gathered at La Cocina restaurant in Javea Port to sample a selection of white, rose and red wines chosen and presented by members Glynis and Michael Ballantyne.

In June the group will take a day trip to Bodegas Daniel Belda. For details about the wine tasting group and other Javea U3A activities, go to the website www.u3ajavea.org

The Ballantynes revealed that they had “tried out” their choice of wines on friends a couple of days before the meeting – and the results were interesting, with the cheaper wines proving just as acceptable as the more expensive ones!

Glynis and Michael were also enthusiastic about “a new toy” they had discovered during their research – a smart phone app which rated and awarded points for the wines. They and their friends were delighted to compare their findings with those of other tasters who had used the app and contributed to the testings! Group leader Geoff Woodward thanked Glynis and Michael for their enlightening and humorous presentation and much applause ensued. A very tasty lunch was then served and enjoyed by all May’s tasting will be presented by Alan Hunton.

JAVEA BOWLS CLUB IN SEVILLE

Sixteen members of Javea Green Bowls Club went on a four day trip to Seville with Beniconnect and had a fabulous time. The group can be seen enjoying the sunshine in the Plaza de Espana.

The famous Seville Feria was probably the highlight of the trip, with the spectacle of thousands of Spanish ladies in national dress and the horses and carriages was amazing. We were also treated to a boat ride on the river and visits every night to the City centre. I almost forgot but we managed to sneak the odd gin and tonic during our rest times!

This is the first of many Social events that can be found at the Inn on the Green, please visit us for more information.

U3A’S HISTORY GROUP MAKES HISTORY The group held its inaugural meeting in founder Sally Wells’ home on April 14, 2005. The speaker was Angela Chantry – and exactly 10 years to the day later, it was fitting that Angela was again the speaker.

She presented a biography of Eva Peron, following a brief history of the group given by current group leader Peter Atkinson. During its 10 years the group has heard 83 talks from 24 different speakers and, if the current pattern continues, will hear its 100th in the spring of 2017.

For the last six years the group has met at the Casa de Cultura in the pueblo. There are nine meetings per annum, monthly from October to June, and each one is open to all members of the Jávea U3A.

Details of forthcoming meetings are always on the website www.u3ajavea.org; or contact group leader Peter Atkinson for more information or to be added to his email list. CHAOTIC WEEKEND CHOIR RECORDS FOR THE TRAIN THEIR FIRST CD

Last weekend was a catalogue of “bad luck” on the railway. Firstly, the TRAM service between Olla de Altea and Teulada was closed due to maintenance works. There was a replacement bus service, but travellers suffered a 40 minute delay due to traffic on the N-332 road.

By Russell Ash

Then the only train to cover the journey between Benidorm and Olla de Altea broke down, so all the travelers who caught the bus in Teulada Train on its way through the Mascarat tunnels (Altea) to join the train in Olla de the broken train, so the maintenance work Altea, couldn’t board that train either. was halted too... Then the speaker system in the broken down train did not work, so commuters on The Railway Union also complained that that service were left in the dark about the the train stations at Benissa, Albir, Alfaz delay. Finally, the maintenance workers del Pi, Cami Coves and Disco have been had to leave their positions to go and fix left without any service.

Recently The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir recorded its first CD.

The album, kindly produced by Darrell Clayton was recorded live at the Ermita San Josep in Benissa.

The recording includes 12 choir favorites including Anthem from Chess, You Raise Me Up, Senzenina with Claire HarknessPost and many more.

There will be a limited number produced initially, so if anyone wants to preorder a copy please contact the choir through our website www.costablancamalevoicechoir.wikidot.com, or our facebook page 'Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir'.

COSTA BLANCA PROPERTY PRICE DROP SLOWS BUT STILL CONTINUES

As the Spanish property market at last approaches price stability after seven years of crisis, leading valuation firm Tinsa has published its quarterly report for the first three months of this year, concluding that across the Alicante property prices fall less sharply than elsewhere in Spain country the rate of annual decline has slowed to just 3.1%. However, the province of Alicante is one of six where the year-on-year price comparison shows a decrease of under 1%, and while this doesn't quite place the Costa Blanca in the select of group of Teruel, Palencia, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Balearics and La Coruña, where prices are actually reported to have risen, it does at least provide grounds for optimism. In the other two provinces of the region of Valencia, meanwhile, prices are reported by Tinsa to have fallen by 4.4% in Valencia and 4.5% in Castellón since the first quarter of 2014. A similar situation is reported in terms of the city of Alicante, where prices fell by only 2.2% between early

Alicante. Again the Alicante figures look the best of the three in terms of the three provincial capitals, with an accumulated depreciation of 40.6% comparing favourably to those of Valencia (54.6%) and Castellón (52.1%).

2014 and early 2015, as opposed to declines of 7.5% and 11.1% in the provincial capitals of Valencia and Castellón respectively. Since the peak of the real estate boom in Spain at the end of 2007, Tinsa now reports that property prices in the Comunidad Valenciana as a whole have dropped by 47.9%, with the decrease estimated at 50.9% in the province of Valencia, 48.8% in Castellón and 43.3% in

THE FIVE BIGGEST MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN RENTING OUT A HOLIDAY RENTAL

With a growing number of holidaymakers choosing to take selfcatering breaks, the holiday letting sector is a rapidly expanding business area. 1. DON’T PRICE YOURSELF OUT OF THE MARKET. Make sure you research the rental price of comparable properties and alternative accommodation in the area

2. DON’T FURNISH FOR YOU Your property is a business, so keep furnishings simple, avoid clutter and remove personal items. Ensure the property meets health and safety requirements, and consider what practical items guests can expect.

3. DON’T LEAVE BOOKINGS TO CHANCE Having your own website is great, but the competition can be tough. Using a reputable holiday rental website, like OwnersDirect.co.uk, can be a cost-effective way to get exposure to millions of travellers and manage booking enquiries. Great photos and truthful descriptions are vital, as is correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Selling the dream

is important and photos are a great away of doing this.

4. DON’T SCRIMP - HAVE A LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE If you don’t live nearby, invest in having someone on hand locally who can ‘meet and greet’ your guests. Having someone to deal with problems immediately, such as a cleaner and handyman, can be invaluable.

5. DON’T FORGET TO COVER YOURSELF Firstly, ensure you are allowed to let your property on a short-term basis and that you understand applicable taxation laws, as you must declare income earned from holiday lets. You also need holiday rental liability insurance and ideally a booking contract to confirm details of the reservation, deposit/refund/cancellation policies and terms and conditions of tenancy.

MARBELLA LEADS SPAIN'S PROPERTY MARKET RECOVERY April 29th – May 5th2015

Newly released figures from the Spanish National Statistics Institute have shown that the exclusive Costa del Sol resort of Marbella is leading the country’s property market recovery, with sales increasing by 28 percent in 2014. The increase means that property sales in Marbella are now 12 percent higher than their 2007 peak. In fact, figures from the Ministry of Development show that sales in Marbella have increased faster than in any other city over the last year.

The new figures mark the third year of growth for Marbella, delighting the city’s

property sector professionals, workers and business owners in this quality resort area, and leaving the crisis firmly behind. Christopher Clover, Managing Director of Panorama Properties Marbella, the area’s longest established real estate agency, comments,

“We’ve had a busy three years and it has been gratifying to see the property market pick up so swiftly, just as we projected it would. Marbella’s charms are plentiful. The coastline in the region is simply stunning and the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the town offers something for everyone.

vistacostablanca.com

The streets of the old town provide a real flavour of the true Spanish style of architecture, intermingled with tiny shops and restaurants whose exteriors are covered with blossoming Bougainvillea throughout the summer months.” Despite its reputation as a playground for the rich and famous (George Clooney is rumoured to have purchased a home there last year), Marbella has retained a sense of family values that make it a popular holiday spot for those with young children, as well as older age groups.

27

As well as its stunning scenery, fantastic weather and gourmet restaurants, the city enjoys easy access to a range of the Costa del Sol’s attractions. High end golf resorts, the ‘white village’ of Mijas and the beautiful Benahavis Mountains are all readily available, while those who prefer to simply soak up the sun can enjoy the area’s golden sands and warm sea.

With such attractions to offer, it is clear to see why Marbella’s resounding popularity has lead to property transactions there increasing faster than in any other region.

Denia is very much a family resort and one of the most popular tourist destinations on the northern Costa Blanca. A quiet little town that was once the centre of the region's raisin growing industry. Although tourism has taken over, raisins are still grown here and remain to be a local delicacy. The main avenue in Dénia is the Marques de Campo where you can sit and watch the world go by. In the Plaza de Constitucion you will find a wonderful 17th century church. The area around Dénia has been voted the third healthiest place to live by the World Health Organisation.

What to see in Dénia

Dénia is an old town with a long history. Right back to Roman times it was an important centre. As such there's no wonder that there are remains of ancient civilizations everywhere. One of the most important monuments in Dénia is the castle. You can read all about Denia Castle and see a video here. The castle also houses a museum. It was built in the 11th century and has been remodelled several times over the years. You can find the castle at the top end of Denia, close to the town hall. Access is via a maze of narrow streets. The main seafront in Dénia is an attractive road with ample parking and facilities to stop and eat and drink. From the seafront, small roads lead into the town.

Behind the first line of buildings are a series of small patios where you will find some superb restaurants amid the little fishermens' houses, all painted different colours. There are some quirky restaurants in this area that make a pleasant change from the seafront.

The Marina Dénia is not only one of the most important ports along this coast of Spain but it also has a wonderful marina.

The marina has been totally refurbished over recent years and now provides a stunning location to walk, sail and enjoy the facilities there. The waterside is surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants with a sprinkling of shops and offices. To the side of the marina is a small bay beach. Calle Marques de Campos is the main shopping street. Here you will find most of the major banks as well as designer shops such as Mango.

Barrios Antiguos (Old quarter) This is where you will find the town hall, churches, museums and lots of narrow streets. Every street is diffrerent and there are some quaint little shops. The Town Hall in Dénia is a fine example of a classical building, built around 1620. There is a unique stone inscription on the wall dedicated to a Roman Dénia of the 2nd century, Titus Junius. You can find the town hall at the foot of the castle in the historic part of town. The town hall have several staff that speak English and are very helpful. Take a ticket from the information desk when you arrive then wait for your number to be called. Recent works on the square in front of the town hall have revealed Roman foundations.

Beneath the castle is the old Air Raid Tunnel which was built between 1937 and 1938 as a defense during the Spanish Civil War. It was constructed by the residents of Dénia and war refugees. (March 2011 - the area is being refurbished). Shopping and markets in Dénia Monday is the main market day in Dénia (8am2pm). There is also an antiques market on Fridays (pictured right). Both are located in front of Jaume I Square. The fresh fish market is located in the port and has a daily auction at 5pm.

The indoor market in the centre of town is open daily. There's also a morning fruit and veg market outside.

Finding your way around Dénia The backdrop to Dénia is the Montgo mountain with its natural park (Parque Natural del Montgo) where you can take amazing walks. Behind the mountain you will find the little villages of Jesus Pobre and Pedreguer.

Dénia is divided into clear areas (Terminos). The old town centre is the Casco Urbano. To the left of Dénia is the Las Marinas area and to the right is Las Rotas. Some of the larger urbanizations in Dénia include La Sella (surrounding the golf course). Most of the street parking in

Dénia is free, however, where spaces are marked with blue lines, you need to purchase a ticket from the machines and display in your windscreen. 127 minutes for 1€ is the maximum stay. One of the nicest avenues in Dénia is Marques de Campo. The trees on either side meet in the middle, offering a shade in the summer. There are some nice shops on this street as well as some fine cafes and restaurants. The N°11 Bar is particularly nice. The historic part of Dénia is best seen on foot as the streets are very narrow with limited parking. You will find several plazas in which to rest.

INDIA GATE - BENIDORM

Navi & Jasmine welcome you to enjoy the best authentic Indian cuisine in Benidorm independently voted by visitors and locals in Benidorm India Gate has been frequently visited from people living in all areas across the whole region of Costa Blanca for the last 10 years. Situated in Calle Gerona at the Old Town end, this street has now become known as "the food street" and is one of the most popular places to visit for dining out in the centre of Benidorm. The road is closed to traffic and the restaurants are able to place tables outside their premises into the road. A perfect location for warm relaxing evening that you can enjoy outdoors.

Indian food is certainly one of my favourites and for me the whole experience of eating Indian food is actually having the meal in a restaurant that offers the ambiance and pleasure of the authentic hospitality offered by the Indian culture. It is the amazing aromas coming from the busy kitchen together with the stylish table ware that is used for serving the food. India Gate have made every effort to be original and inventive with their serving methods and creativity of the menu.

The popadoms are served with a selection of dips that demonstrate the quality and perfection of the food on offer in this amazing restaurant. Spicy onion, tangy sweet Mango Chutney, Minty Yogurt and traditional Lime Pickle

you certainly get your taste buds buzzing. I normally choose a curry with a sauce and have my favourites such as a Madras or Pathia both of these are fairly hot and spicy but this time I had made a change a decision made because of the fact that I had seen a number of customers eating grills and the sizzling steaming hot grill plates were being delivered from the kitchen and the amazing smells just got the better of me. So my choice was to have a Tandoori Mixed Grill together with a side dish of Spinich and Cheese (Sagg Panir) and a Taka Dhal (lentils) and of course a Nan Bread. My colleagues ordered a Cheesy Chicken and a Chicken Tika Masala both served with rice. When our food was served the large sizzling grill was placed next to me that had an outstanding quantity of food displayed, Chicken, Lamb, King Prawn and Salmon Tika together with onions and peppers, the tarka dal and Spinach with Cheese were perfect accompaniments and I really did enjoy my meal. My colleagues both had amazing curries served in stylish individual pots that have a burner within the base that keeps the food simmering away. India Gate is always busy and it is very rare to s e e e m p t y tables although I recommend you make a reservation you would normally get seated if you are just turning up. The wealth of experience of the Indian chef and his kitchen team

1

9-* 2&78-2&1

are the reasons that this restaurant needs very little help from me recommending the authentic indian food as it is common knowledge that the cuisine is the best you can get and people travel from all over the region to dine here. The VISTA CARD allows a 10% discount on the bill so when you visit India Gate tell Navi or his staff that you have read the food review in the Buzz and would like to use the VISTA CARD offer, you can also collect you card on arrival.

CRYPTIC CROSSWORD

wE33 WEEKLY HOROSCOPES ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

You’re focused and hard working, so keep it up and this may be the week your drive for success eventually improves your financial situation. You’ve got the gift of the gab and could talk anyone in, or out, of anything, ultimately helping you in your quest for success TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

By and large you’re more optimistic than most, so you never let anything or anyone hold you back, or hold you down, and this week is no exception, Try to keep a happy balance between work and home though, as spending too much time on one will annoy the other.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

If things aren’t going too well in the career zone, they’ll be going great guns at home, and vice versa. Your challenge is to try to balance both equally, so that each makes you smile at the same time. Keep your ego under control at the weekend. No one likes a show off.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

It’s only by letting go and expressing yourself creatively that others will get to see the real you. Yes you’re a team player, and yes you prefer to work to someone else’s rules as it removes any responsibility for decisions that need to be made, but live dangerously this week.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

You’re flavour of the month and you cant seem to put a foot wrong this week, so others will be drawn to you like bees to a honey pot. Use your fan club to help you with the more menial tedious tasks you hate. They won’t mind and neither will you, not surprisingly.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

Professional matters seem to be going in the right direction, and being in the right place at the right time certainly wont do you any harm this week. Don’t make sweeping changes just yet. Let everyone get used to your agendas slowly and they’ll be more willing to change.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

Although you’re known to be a peace loving sign, there’s nothing you like more than a good argument, but only if you hold all the cards and you have the power to call a halt. Don’t be tempted to argue this week as the odds aren’t stacked in your favour this time. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

Although you’ll have a busy week professionally, that’s not to say you cant make some time for your personal and social life or intimate liasons with lovers. It’s all about getting the right balance. The end of the week brings good news over money matters SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

There’s a feeling of restlessness building up within you as you hate having nothing constructive to do. Turn your attention to home based issues and it wont be long before you’ve got your hands full and wish you’d never started. Worrying about the future doesn’t help. CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

Your popularity is high this week, so use this to you advantage in work and play. The strong position of Mars makes you look strong and confident, so others will be happy to do your bidding. Not everything will run smoothly though, so be prepared to adapt plans AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

Don’t be tempted to take risks over money matters as the odds are not stacked in your favour this week. Stick to the tried and tested and although boring, it wont cause you sleepless night. Go out on a limb socially and you could meet someone new who thinks you’re great.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

Life as you know it seems to be jogging along nicely, but as usual you’ll be looking for more. Have you thought about holidays yet? Maybe it’s all you’ve thought about. A trip to the travel agent seems to be on the cards. You’re already lost in sun, sand and sangria.

Cojonudos Fried Quail Eggs with Chorizo or Morcilla “Cojonudos” are a simple, but tasty “tapa” made by top-

ping a slice of baguette with a fried quail egg and a slice of fried chorizo sausage. “Cojonudos” loosely translated means “awesome” and judging by their popularity in tapas bars, they must be! Their “sister tapa” is the “cojonuda,” made with a small slice of morcilla (blood sausage) instead of chorizo sausage. Quail eggs are about a third of the size of chicken eggs, are mottled grey and white. They are available by the dozen in many supermarkets in Spain and have become a very fashionable ingredient in “tapa” dishes and main coursesand they are also sometimes served with a little strip of red, spicy pepper.

This "cojonudo" recipe makes 4-6 servings as an appeIngredients tizer.Note: If you 1 dozen quail eggs cannot find quail 12 slices of a baguette eggs in a market 12 Slices of Spanish chorizo near you, fry a (Spanish) virgin olive oil for frying chicken egg and lay it on a larger piece of bread.Arrange the slices of baguette on a large dinner plate or serving platter. In a medium-sized frying pan, pour a few tablespoons of olive oil and heat on medium. When hot, fry quail eggs 2 at a time. Be careful not to over-heat the pan because the eggs will burn easily.

As you remove each egg, place on top of a slice of baguette.Note: The egg shells are harder than the shells of chicken eggs. If you attempt to crack them open using your thumbs, you will probably end up with both your thumbs in a broken yoke. So, we recommend that you crack them open by giving them a quick, sharp tap with the blade of a small knife. Remove the knife and separate the halves.Cut chorizo into slices about 1/4-inch thick. In the same pan where you fried the eggs, lightly fry the chorizo slices on medium heat. Remove the slices one at a time and place atop a slice of bread with egg. This dish is best served hot immediately after removing the eggs and chorizo from the frying pan.

Variation – Cojonudas Make the cojonudas the same way you would the cojonudos. Instead of chorizo sausage, fry “morcilla” sausage, sliced about 1/3-inch thick.

AUDI CREATES NEW E-DIESEL FROM JUST AIR & WATER! T h e L a t e s t B U Z Z f r o m t h e M o t o r i n g Wo r l d

Audi is making a new fuel for internal combustion engines that has the potential to make a big dent when it comes to climate change – that's because the synthetic diesel is made from just water and carbon dioxide.

E-Diesel, Being Tested In An Audi A8 TDI

"If we get the first sales order, we will be ready to commercialize our technology," von Olshausen says.

The company's pilot plant, which is operated by German startup Sunfire in Dresden, produced its first batches of the "e-diesel" this month. German Federal Minister of Education and Research Johanna Wanka put a few liters of the fuel in her work car, an Audi A8, to commemorate the accomplishment.

The base fuel is referred to as "blue crude," and begins by taking electricity from renewable sources like wind, solar or hydropower and using it to produce hydrogen from water via reversible electrolysis. The hydrogen is then mixed with CO2 that has been converted into CO in two chemical processes and the resulting reactions produce a liquid made from long-chain hydrocarbons – this is blue crude, which is then refined to create the end product, the synthetic e-diesel.

Audi says that the carbon dioxide used in the process is currently supplied by a biogas facility but, further adding to the green impacts of the process, some of the CO2 is captured directly from the ambient air, taking the greenhouse gas out of the atmosphere.

as is often done with biodiesel fuels already. The Dresden pilot plant is set to produce about 42 gallons (160 l) of synthetic diesel per day in the coming months, and the two companies say the next step is to build a bigger plant.

Sunfire anticipates that the market price for the synthetic diesel could be between 1 and 1.5 Euros per liter, which would be nearly competitive or a little more expensive than current diesel prices in Europe, but the actual figure will be largely dependent on the price of electricity.

Sunfire claims that analysis shows the properties of the synthetic diesel are superior to fossil fuel, and that its lack of sulphur and fossil-based oil makes it more environmentally friendly. The overall energy efficiency of the fuel creation process using renewable power is around 70 percent, according to Audi.

"The engine runs quieter and fewer pollutants are being created," says Sunfire CTO Christian von Olshausen.

The fuel can be combined with conventional diesel fuel,

Audi and its partners, including Climeworks, began working on this project back in 2012. Last November, they opened a new e-diesel plant in Dresden, Germany and the first usable batch was produced earlier this week.

The initial batch yielded five liters, which was put to the test in an Audi A8 TDI. Audi hopes using CO2 as a raw material will eventually become a viable and widespread option. For now, the automaker plans to produce around 800 gallons of the e-diesel in the coming months for further testing.

STAY FIT AND HEALTHY DURING SUMMER

The summer is here and so is heat, sweat, tanning, perpetual thirst and a lack of appetite! Health wise, this season brings with a lot of gastrointestinal problems like vomiting, diarrhoea, food poisoning and others like heat stroke, dehydration and dizziness.

A proper diet, that maintains the optimal hydration level in the body along with a good electrolyte balance, helps to protect from all these problems. The summer heat raises the body temperature that leads to excessive sweating, loss of water, as well as loss of electrolytes like sodium and potassium. If the body continues to lose water and electrolytes through sweat and urination, the body’s equilibrium will be disturbed and could even lead to a stroke and coma.

The importance of water in your summer diet

Therefore, the diet consumed should be such that it replenishes all the losses and helps maintain an optimal body temperature. The most important constituent of your diet in the summer is water. Water constitutes 60% of the human body. If the body continues to lose water through sweating and urination, the total water in the body would reduce, which in turn would lead to thickening of blood, making it difficult to flow. This causes palpitation, heavy breathing and affects all organs of the body.

Therefore, keeping the body optimally hydrated is extremely important during the summer season.

This can be done by having plain water, nimbu-paani, coconut water, lassi, cold milk, iced tea, aam panna... the list is long. But cold-drinks, a favourite amongst young and old, are best avoided. Colas or carbonated beverages contain caffeine, which is acidic in nature and acts like a diuretic. It quenches your thirst momentarily, but being a diuretic, it enhances water and electrolyte losses from the body in the form of urine.

Summer vegetables and fruits

Nature has a bounty of different fruits and vegetables that are just apt for the summer. That is why vegetables like ghia, tori, karela, tinda (different types of gourds); cucumber; kakdi; pumpkin; tomatoes; lady finger; mint and fruits like water melon; musk melon; mango and litchi are available in the summers. The reason our elders use to force us to eat all these “boring vegetables in the summer was because all these vegetables are high in water content and are light on the stomach and easy to digest.

WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?

Sleep apnea is a condition that affects the way you breathe while sleeping. This potentially dangerous condition is often left undiagnosed, as the symptoms can be fairly unremarkable.

What’s Apnea?

An individual experiences pauses or shallowness in breathing while asleep. Each pause is termed 'apnea’ and can extend for up to twenty seconds at a time. An apnea can occur at frequencies of up to thirty times an hour.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

Snoring suggests the possibility of sleep apnea; however it’s wrong to deduct that all snorers suffer from this sleep disorder. Often the individual is unaware of the condition unless intimated by a bed partner. Symptoms like daytime sleepiness, exhaustion, morning headaches, increased frequency in nocturnal urinary patterns and disturbed sleep patterns are often overlooked as a consequence of the person’s lifestyle

Types of Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is diagnosed based on clinical observation and diagnostic tests. No blood tests can positively identify the condition. The condition may fall under the following • Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) • Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) • Complex or Mixed Sleep Apnea.•

Mixed Sleep Apnea, as the name suggests, is a combination of CSA and OSA

Treatment apnea

of

sleep

Treatments range from use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device and certain throat exercise to medication and corrective surgeries.

CPAP is a medical device that maintains a clear airway by means of continuous flow of pressurized air during sleep. Though this is an effective treatment, it is uncomfortable and many patients opt for alternate treatments. Medicines to improve respiration are also prescribed to treat this condition. It’s also found that sleeping on one's side rather than back helps treat sleep apnea.

A crucial aspect of sleep apnea is that patients undergoing any other medical treatment or surgery must inform the medical practitioner of the situation beforehand. Certain emergency and anaesthetic procedures are tailored for individual’s suffering from sleep apnea. This ensures their safety and reduces threat to life during medical treatment.

Though not easily diagnosed and quite volatile in its effects, sleep apnea is a treatable condition and modern day medical techniques offer patients a number of treatment options.

HOW TO TEACH YOUR DOG NOT TO PULL ON THE LEAD

have fewer opportunities to catch a whiff of something enticing, and she’ll be less inclined to stop and eliminate every few steps. Additionally, you are far more interesting to your dog when you move quickly.

You’ve probably seen dogs at shows or on TV who prance alongside their handlers, staring up with rapt attention. These dogs have received extensive training in precision heeling. It’s impressive but demanding work. Precision heeling demands constant attention from both dog and handler and is not appropriate for long periods of time, like for your daily walks around the block or to the park. Even dogs trained to heel need to learn to walk on leash without pulling when they’re not formally heeling.

You can use various methods to teach dogs to walk without pulling on leash. No single method works for all dogs. Here are some overall guidelines before we look at several methods: ing. In fact, you’ll succeed more quickly if you find a way to tire your dog out before taking him on a training walk. • Until your dog learns to walk without pulling, consider all Dogs pull, in part, because they’re full of excess energy. walks training sessions. Use highly desirable treats that your dog doesn’t get at other times. Soft treats are best so your dog can eat them quickly and continue training. Most dogs love wieners, cheese, cooked chicken or ham, small jerky treats or freeze-dried liver. Chop all treats into small peanut-sized cubes. • Walk at a quick pace. If your dog trots or runs, she’ll

• If you expect your dog to control herself while walking on leash, you must also expect her to control herself before you go for a walk. If she gets wildly excited as you prepare for a walk, you need to focus on that first. Walk to the door and pick up the leash. If your dog races around, barks, whines, spins or jumps up, just stand completely still. Do and say absolutely nothing until your dog calms down a bit. As soon as she has all four paws on the floor, slowly reach toward her to clip on the leash. If she starts to bounce around or jump up on you, quickly bring your hands (and the leash) back toward your body. Wait until your dog has all four paws on the floor again. Then slowly reach toward her again to attach her leash. Repeat this sequence until your dog can stand in front of you, without jumping up or running around, while you clip on her leash. This may seem like a tedious exercise at first, but if you’re consistent, your hard work will pay off. Eventually, your dog will learn to stand still while you attach her leash.

BARNET SET FOR BENIDORM

BARNET will toast the Vanarama Conference title in the sun later this week with Benidorm the chosen destination for the champions.

Martin Allen's men pipped Bristol Rovers to automatic promotion last Saturday as a 2-0 win over Gateshead put them one point ahead of Darrell Clarke's men at the summit and returned them to the Football League after a two-year absence. Rovers, meanwhile, put on an impressive attacking display to oust Alfreton Town 7-0 in their last league game of the season. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Allen, whose been in charge

of Barnet four times over the years, said: "Nobody expected us to do it. The bookmakers never said we would do it. The pundits and the experts said we would be nowhere near it.

Meanwhile, after a rocky relationship with the club, Allen added: "I think I owed the supporters something. Walking out of the relationship, ditching them, going for money, which is what I have done. I never made any secret of that. "My future? I'm going to Benidorm on Wednesday. The only thing I've got to think about at the moment is what sun factor to use in Benidorm."

ALFAZ FANTASY SPONSORED BY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Goals were in short supply in this Weeks Alfaz Fantasy Football League as the Premier League Teams fight for survival, there were 9 clean sheets,3 no score games which included another so called Master Class from Mourinho's Chelsea.Everton secured their biggest win over Manchester United for 23 years while Manchester City moved back into the 2nd spot after pinching the points off relegation threatened Aston Villa. There was a full Premier League programme this Week which gave the Alfaz Fantasy League only 22 goals,9 clean sheets,29 yellow cards and I'm glad to say our beloved Referees kept their red cards in their pockets for a change. Two Players contributed to those clean sheets when Burnley's Matt Taylor and Q.P.R.'s free scoring Charlie Austin both missed Penalties. At the top of the Alfaz Fantasy League Dennis's Team The Potters look a good bet with BETFRED to win the 21st A.F.F.L. Trophy. They now have a formidable 73 point lead over Steve's Team Themuttsnutz.com.Super Rhys slipped one place to 3rd and have a 14 point cushion over Keith's Max & Paddy. Down

at the foot of the Table Boro Man Dan moved a little closer to Gil's Kippax, only 11 points separate them while Les's Team Have Not Got a Clue escaped from the relegation Zone by scoring 27 points 26 coming from his Defenders. The Golden Boot League which is sponsored by Leonard Knowles Construction is looking like a one Horse race with Keith's Max & Paddy taking a 43 point advantage over Super Rhys. Karen's Florida Pearls remain in 3rd position just ahead of Abbey's Brigade. After spending a few Weeks away Dave's Team Casa Stretford Ender have returned to the bottom spot and are 7 points behind Sonny's Curry Potters. In the U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League Super Rhys improved their lead at the top over Harley's Ginger Ninja and Dog Dale,at the bottom Calum's Rees-RedDevils only managed to score 3 points this Week which leaves them trailing Leo's Power Blueboys by 85 points. Game Over ! For the last 4 Weeks Lesley's Law's Lads have been fighting off the challenge from Sarah's Team The Dons at the top of our Mark Carter Ladies Section. At the moment they have a slight 11 point advantage whilst at the other end of the Table Gil's Kippax lost ground to Kate's Mixed Bunch. 51 points was the maximum score this Week by Vince's Team Bars a Loner who started the Season with a flourish but have slipped down in recent Weeks. The lowest scoring Team was Marcus's Salford Sausages with a minus 3 score. They both go into our Monthly Premier Imports

Draw for a case of fine Wine. Manager of the Month for April has been kindly sponsored by The 2 C's Bar Restaurant in Alfaz who have a lovely sunny Terrace and provide good wholesome Food at reasonable prices. The lucky Winner this Month is Steve's Team Themuttsnutz.com who just pipped Rob's Scunny F.C. by 5 points.Gary's Cockney Army came 3rd 4 points ahead of Sue's Super Suze. The Rafters Weekly Breakfast sponsored by Kate goes to Tom's Team It's my Time who moved up 22 places to No 102.(watch out for the nose bleeds Tom) In our F.A.Cup League Gary's Cockney Army marched straight to the Summit and have camped out there with a narrow 4 advantage over Steve's Salford Side.Al's Team Har Joe and Andy's Lofty's Lion were both knocked off the top spot and have now run out of Players in the F.A.Cup are in joint 3rd place. Dave's Rhuddlan Reds are in 8th place and could make up ground on the Leaders if his 3 Arsenal Players perform well in the F.A.Cup Final.Eric's City Slickers are stuck at the bottom and have no Players left in the F.A.Cup. Wooden Spoon on the way. We have 2 Lady Managers and 1 Junior Manager who have made it through to the Semi-Finals of our K.O.Cup Competition. Pam's People cruised through to the Semi's by disposing of Waynus F.C. by 36-10.Our other Lady Manager Ann saw her Team Golden Girls edged through by beating one our Junior Teams Dog Dale by 32-25. The best performance came from our other Junior Team Teigar's Tigers who knocked out the Favourites Max & Paddy with a very narrow 30-28 victory. The other Team to reach the Semi's was Jocky's Allsorts who just scraped through against Cowden Red Devils by 21-19. The Draw for the SemiFinals will soon be up on our website which is www.alfazffl.com you will also be able to follow your Team in the last Weeks of the Season or if you can't access a computer why not call into Hepburns or The Local In Albir and get all the latest Tables and Results.

The Swede was initially taken on a five-week trial, but Murray is looking forward to working more closely with the 43-year-old.

very well with him," Murray told Sky Sports News HQ.

"As a coach, I don’t know him that well, because we only spent a few days together in Barcelona last week. But he’s a very calm guy.

"He has a good way about him. As a player, he had a very good work ethic. His mentality on the court was very good and he obviously has a lot of experience of singles and doubles, which is good.

WIMBLEDON BANS SELFIE STICKS We were on the tour for quite a few years together and I always got on

"We’ll see this week how it goes but I get on well with him."

Wimbledon has become the latest venue to ban selfie sticks.

Boris Johnson, Beyonce and Barack Obama - who used one during a video promotion at the White House - are among those seen with the devices.

The backlash against the phenomenon continues as the All England Lawn Tennis Club became the latest high-profile venue to ban the popular accessory.

However, they have met increasing resistance in recent months

The news will come as a blow to tennis fans hoping to get the perfect selfie at the championships.

A ticketholders' guide for this year's tournament says: "In common with many other major sports and entertainment events and cultural attractions, The Championships will not allow 'selfie sticks' into the grounds." A spokesman for the AELTC said the move was brought in partly because of the "nuisance

value" but "primarily so it doesn't interfere with spectators' enjoyment".

Selfie sticks proved immensely popular among those swept up in the phenomenon of taking pictures of themselves using smartphones.

Earlier this year they were banned from the National Gallery. The venue in Trafalgar Square, central London, placed the devices in the same category as tripods, which are already prohibited, and the move prompted other cultural venues to consider following suit.

Tottenham Hotspur banned them from White Hart Lane after a complaint from a fan, while they have also been barred at a number of galleries and museums in the US and France.

WATFORD AND BOURNEMOUTH CLINCH PROMOTION

Watford and Bournemouth has clinched two of the three promotion spots to the English Premier League next season. For Watford, this will be their first season in the EPL since 2007.

For Bournemouth, this will be their first time in the top division in their entire 116 year history dating back to 1899. Bournemouth technically hasn’t clinched promotion but Bournemouth needs to lose and Middlesbrough needs to win and make up a 20 goal differential in order in the final game to get that promotion spot instead of Bournemouth.

Watford went through some trials and tribulations this season. They are on their fourth manager. They went through three managers in a span of five weeks and hired Slavisa Jokanovic to close out the season back in October.

Even after all of those changes, Watford managed to stay close to the top of the table all season. Watford was able to clinch promotion this past weekend after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0. Watford is a point ahead of Bournemouth for the Championship title as they play Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
