The days when the Marina Alta was considered one of the most water wealthy areas in the Valencian region seem to be a distant memory. OUT AND ABOUT

Dear Readers

"The Heat Is On"... and we are experiencing summer weather early this year. The average temperature is normally 23-25 degrees, and so far we have seen daily highs of 30+ across most areas of the North Costa Blanca. It's fantastic for the tourists and holidaymakers, but for us locals who have to work, it's back to the whingeing about the heat now through until September.... Brits are never happy are they?

Speak for yourself you may say, but really it's been a long winter for us poor ex-pats, suffering the cold nights and now the real nightmare starts of sweaty nights and red hot sunny days. Oh well, we just have to be happy, it's raining again in the UK and none too warm either....

Talking more of “Heat”, the news of my week is the recent acquisition of the most popular radio station in the Costa Blanca - Heat FM Spain. Now part of the Weekly Buzz News Group, the station offers great live shows from morning until late into the evening (transmitted from our local studio in Moraira). There are new presenters from the UK, as well as “Shorty B's Big Breakfast show” from 8am during the week. Don’t miss Mr John Mair (a well known presenter on British Radio) on Saturdays and Sundays. Read our full press release on page 6.

Also take a look at page 30 for the very latest offers for the opening weekend of Aqua Natura Water Park, located just outside Benidorm. Win free tickets to the theme parks every weekday morning, by listening to our competition from 8am on 90.3 FM (Altea to Benidorm) and on 106.8 (Calpe to Denia).

Finally, a big thank you on behalf of the fund raisers at the Himalaya Tandoori Restaurant who laid on an amazing night of cuisine, with all proceeds donated to the Earthquake fund. It really was a fantastic dining experience - read full details on page 31, and check out our Facebook page for details and information on the success of this event

Please don't forget to visit our web site at www.vistacostablanca.com where you can see all of the latest VISTA CARD news.

Happy reading!

WATER RESERVES AT CRITICAL May 13th – May 19th 2015

vistacostablanca.com

Continued from page 1

As we look to the summer (which seems to have started early), the region could experience stricter water restrictions, which have already been implemented in some of the drier reas.

The water shortage prediction is based on the “state index”, a scale that measures monthly water reserves, which reads from 0.0 (lowest possible) to 1 (maximum). Classificaitons are... Emergency 0.0-0.15, Alert 0.15-0.29 Pre Alert 0.30 to 0.5. Normal 0.4-1. These figures help us understand how dramatic the situation is within the reservoirs and wells in the Marina Alta.

As you can see from the state index table, the situation improved in the Marina Alta after last summer. The index rose to 0.17, which was outside the “emergency” zone for the first time.

The Marina Baixa had a wonderful winter in terms of weather, but not for water reserves, dropping by 50% leaving the area on “Alert” for this summer.

According to the Special Plan of Alert and Temporary Drought (PES), when an area is in a state of emergency, it means that the region may face restrictions with regards to agricultural irrigation and urban supply. In fact, there are already supply problems in some municipalities such as Jalón. On the coast, Benissa has set aside a budget of 200,000 euros to buy water, because their volumes are exhausted; and the Mayor of Teulada has admitted that during this summer they can not guarantee a supply.

the local government, the PP, and the council, also PP.

However all eyes are on the Dénia council as they must approve a consignment of 210,000 euros of funding from the Consortium, to execute the work required to return the water to Jalón.

Politically very little of this is broadcast, especially during this time of an election and at the start of another tourist season. True, the Water Consortium of Marina Alta is planning some emergency works, but there might be problems within the city of Dénia (the most populated town in the region), as there is now a battle between

SPANISH NURSES STILL CHOOSE THE NHS

Spain’s General Council for Nurses has released a report stating that only one region meets the EU average number of nurses.

Right now Spain has 508 nurses per 100,000 people which sees the country seriously lagging behind the EU average of 811 per 100,000.

Hospitals in the UK recruited 6,000 overseas nurses last year, a fourfold increase on the previous year with the largest number of recurits coming from Spain, Portugal, the Phillipines and Italy.

Regular recruitment fairs are held in cities across Spain where recruitment companies and managers boast about hiring around 50 nurses a time.

According to Eurostat, in 2011 Germany had 1,131 nurses per 100,000 while the United Kingdom had 804.

That puts Spain more on par with Poland (521 nurses per 100,000 people) or Romania (534 per 100,000).

The report reveals that the number of nurses varies considerably from region to region within Spain. With these numbers in mind the Spainish medical community has expressed its need for 141,783 more nurses to reach the EU average.

Thousands of people moved abroad for work after 2008, when the country was plunged into recession and unemployment figures dramatically increased, which could be the main reason for the lack of trained nursing staff.

AIRBUS MILITARY PLANE CRASHES 4

NEWS

By Russell Ash

Spanish authorities praised the bravery of farmworkers who helped pull two survivors from the burning wreckage of an Airbus A400M military transport plane that had crashed near Seville airport.

The plane, which was undergoing flight tests, destroyed a high-tension electricity pylon as it smashed into a field, killing four people on board. Airbus spokesman

vistacostablanca.com

Kieran Daly said it had been carrying six crew: two pilots, three flight test engineers and a technician.

Just one minute after leaving the ground, a pilot said that the plane was experiencing minor technical faults and reported that he would be remaining near the airport.

About three minutes later the pilot asked for permission to return to the airport and land, but didn’t state there was an emer-

gency. Almost immediately came the final communication received from the cockpit: “We aren’t going to make the runway.”

The pilot requested permission to use an alternative runway at San Pablo which would mean less distance for the stricken plane to travel, but some two minutes later, at almost exactly 1pm, the A400M smashed into the ground around one mile north of Seville’s airport.

The Spanish government announced on Sunday that the plane’s two black box flight recorders had been recovered.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy tweeted "A hero for us all” Local farmer Manuel Iglesias spoke to Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy in the Andalusian capital on Saturday. He and two other people saw that there were two crew members who had suffered serious injuries.

The three local men helped the two pilots – one of whom was described as semiconscious after the crash – escape from the wreckage through the plane’s smashed windows. One of the three rescuers is reported to have suffered burns.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy posted a photograph of himself on Twitter talking to Mr Iglesias, calling him “a hero for us all”.

The two injured men were described as being stable but in a serious condition on Sunday, by Seville hospital authorities. One has serious head injuries, burns and multiple fractures; the other has wounds to his upper body and abdomen.

Britain, Germany and Turkey temporarily grounded their A400M planes after the crash pending investigations, but France's air force spokesman Colonel Jean-Pascal Breton said “we don't have any reasons to ground the fleet at this stage.”

THE HEAT IS ON! 6

The owner of the Weekly Buzz Newspaper Marco Baiardo has recently purchased Heat FM Spain, expanding his media business even further with what has already been reported in recent months as the fastest growing and most successful media advertising business in Spain. Boasting five other media products within the product portfolio, including the Weekly Buzz Newspaper.

vistacostablanca.com

"Well the Brits just love their local read and in the most traditional fashion, with a morning coffee or with breakfast on the patio with the newspaper, it seems the perfect combination when living in the sun."

Press Release Heat FM Spain May 2015 Written by Janet Murphy

"The recent changes and implementation of our expansion plans will ensure that the Buzz team are the driving force in media advertising across the Costa Blanca." Speaking to former owners Gill and Phil Teague from Moraira, "it's now time to enjoy life and take things easy."

Gill explained "There was no way at all we were selling the business without giving it long and hard thought, Heat FM is our baby and it's a family business so for us we wanted the right buyer. Marco came along and we knew that he was capable to take the business further."

Talking to Marco I asked him what was behind the recent expansion plans, "I started here in 2011 and gradually have built the business. I have had to make the necessary changes within the business to suit the media industry in Spain, which is very different and very challenging, the focus has always been to give my customers what they want."

Phil who runs his own electrical business in the area added, "We are really heartbroken to have to say goodbye, but at the same time we are happy that Marco has taken over as we know that he will take this station to the highest level, that's what he does. It's all about him and his team they are a true winning formula."

Asking Marco what was next on his agenda, "to drive the business forward, together with new ideas and lots more hard work."

"In the recent months we have expanded our distribution of the Weekly Buzz Newspaper, doubling the number of weekly copies, and our intention is to make sure that readers can see the newspaper in their local area. There were so many complaints from readers of other newspapers who continually struggle to pick up their papers, so I guessed that it was just a matter of a shortfall in the number of copies being printed."

May 13th – May 19th 2015

"Now with the addition of Heat FM to our product range, we can provide a solid and consistent media platform for our advertisers to benefit from, bringing more customers through the door and that's what we do, together with the local readers to enjoy and be part of."

Heat FM is one of the most popular ex-pat radio stations in the North Costa Blanca. The Buzz team already promote Overseas FM as part of the Iceland store network, and will be continuing their business as normal. So there is something for everyone to enjoy and for business owners it's time for the good life and talk to the Buzz Media Group.

Listen to "Shorty B's Big Breakfast" daily from 8am, and kick start your day with Heat FM.

ARE YOU FEELING HOT? HEATWAVE HITS SPAIN

It just doesn’t let up, it appears someone turned the thermostat right up last week giving everyone an early taste of summer with temperatures soaring, but that seems to be just the start as you will need to brace yourself for a nationwide heatwave this week.

By Russell Ash

Temperatures are said to be “exceptionally high” for this time of year according to Spain’s national weather agency (Aemet) who has released a statement warning that the temperature could rise higher than 35 degrees in some places.

“An extraordinary rise in temperatures is forecast in northern areas of Cantabria and the Basque country that will see temperatures exceed 30C,” Aemet said in a statement.

The south of the country and the region of Extremadura will experience the hottest weather this week, with temperatures reaching the high 30s.

The cooler temperature will begin to sweep in over northern Spain, but the rest of the country will continue to bake, according to Aemet.

ANIMAL WELFARE PROTEST IN ALTEA By Fred Archer

This Sunday (17th of May) at 11.00am there will be a peaceful protest held entitled “Protectora: sí!, Perrera: no!”, organised by Altea’s animal protection organisation ADAA.

This organization has been fighting for an asylum to be built in Altea, which now seems to be happening, but the municipality wants it to be run by a private company.

That means it won’t be a Protectora (animal shelter), but a Perrera', (a company). The difference is that the first is run by a

Foundation, a non-profit organization, and the animals are not in danger of being put to sleep. The volunteers take care of the animals and actively seek new owners.

In a perrera, the animals whose owners don’t show up are put to sleep after 20 days. A perrera works for profit, and their care for animals is not ongoing.

The protesters do not want their tax money being used for the slaughter of animals, they want the municipality to invest in animal care, sterilization campaigns and looking for new owners.

All animal lovers from Altea are invited to meet at the roundabout on the north side of the boulevard (where the flags are) on Sunday 17th of May at 11.00am.

The animal protection hopes that many people will turn up, so that their wish for a Protectora to replace a Perrera can be achieved in Altea.

SNORKELING TOURS By Russell Ash

Greenwich diving, in collaboration with the Natural Park of the Serra Gelada, the Town Hall of Altea and C o a s t a l E c o l o g y Institute, will be holding snorkeling tours of the Bay of Altea, e v e r y Wednesday and Friday during the months of June, July, August and September. This initiative includes informative talks, which help us to understand our local sea life and enhance the environmental richness of the Bay of Altea. This activity is suitable for all ages, including children from age 10.

The routes have been created for the public, not just divers, and we can learn the value hidden in our local

waters, which fortunately remain in very good condition. Greenwich Diving has chosen four spectacular routes for you to choose, starting from one of Altea’s beaches. These areas have been chosen due to their rich environment and conservation. In the Island of l' Olla and the Mascarat Beach areas you can see great prairies of oceanic Posidonia (sea grass), present for over 300 years. With generally calm waters and good visibility, these routes offer a large biodoversity of marine and sea life, with each location offering something different. For more information about the activity, you can contact the Greenwich Diving Center at number 96 688 14 57 or visit greenwichdiving.com

EARTHQUAKE CHARITY DINNER

It gives me great pleasure to report that, on Sunday May 10th at the Himalaya Tandoori Moraira and on Monday 11th at the Himalaya Tandoori Altea, both restaurants were fully booked for the charity appeal to help the disaster in Nepal. In fact, the Altea restaurant had two sittings (one at 7pm and the other at 9pm) so that staff and owners could accommodate everyone who wanted to take part. The restaurants laid on a truly wonderful three course meal with drinks in order to encourage diners to give as much as possible. The larger tables collected amongst themselves and everyone posted their donation into a large money box. The volunteers supporting the event took note of individual donations, which have been posted onto the official web site http://www.prakashtiwari.net One of the raffle prizes was a meal for two and all the proceeds from the wonderful dining experience will go to the fund. The events were a fantastic success and again showed the solidarity between the ex-pat community in Spain,

ready and willing to help whenever they can. The restaurant owners and appeal volunteers were truly grateful for the tremendous response and were overwhelmed with the total amount of money raised 9,640€. Well done to everyone, and a big thank you to the owners and staff at the Himalaya Tandoori.

CHARITY EVENT FOR THE BRADFORD FIRE

Last Sunday, Foley's Bar hosted a charity event in aid of the Bradford FC disaster. The event was attended by over 250 people, and although they only had seats and space for 150, this was enough as people attended at different times throughout the day. At one point, the crowd was stretched up to the side of the road.

By Paul Thacker

Bradford Supporters with Paul Thacker in a Bradford shirt

They raised a huge total of 5,300€, just short of £4,000 at the current exchange rate. A large number of Bradford fans who were in Benidorm at the time attended the event, and there is a special mention for Wayne Wright (proprietor of Levis

Showboat) who's customers raised over a 1,000€. It was a really enjoyable and succesful day. The amount surpassed all expectations.

The Mayor, Agustin Navarro, stressed that “Benidorm is one of the few pioneers in Spanish towns and cities with an openness to Europe through tourism” and today “with our full integration into the European Union, we continue to spearhead the necessary Europeanism and remain an open, friendly and hospitable city”. BENIDORM OR BUST CAR RALLY By Russell Ash

The Benidorm or Bust car rally was again a big success, with not too many casualties. Along the way a gear box or two was lost, an engine completely gone and a team even managed to put petrol in their diesel car, just two miles from home! The journey was enjoyed by over 200 people and everyone met with their motors at the pre-arranged car park at 4.30pm on Saturday for pictures, b e f o r e enjoying a drive around town to show off their wonderful creations. Winners of the best car this year was won by The Heli-Van! Rob from the Heli-Van Team said on social media “Team 2 the heli-van are over the moon. We have only gone and won the overall prize for best car”.

Winner The Heli-Van

After the event, the teams gathered at a local bar to award prizes and share stories of their journery. Most of the cars (tragically) are sent off to be recycled.

Last year the Benidorm or Bust rally recieved some negative press, which was unjustified in regards to abandoned cars. We talked with one of the organisers Steve

and asked him about the negative press. “We had a lot of bad press last year. We had one car that was sold to an owner of a bar in town, but then later found out that she bought it so she could park it outside a bar she didnt like, but we had bad press saying we were dumping cars all over Benidorm. Your paper (The Buzz) was one of the ones not trying to get us stopped” he said. The event takes place each year and is a a low budget Cannonball Run for charity, with each team choosing their own charity to support, which normally raises money in the thousands (per team).

It is fantastic to see the cars that the teams have worked hard to make look as good as possible.

The website stands out due to the beautiful large format pictures, taken in cooperation with the Photo Club Ifach. The website has been set up in five languages: Spanish, Valencian, English, French and German. To be clear: the website of the municipality, with all practical information for citizens, remains as www.calp.es.

TERRACE REQUIREMENTS FOR RESTAURANT OWNERS For tourists, the website is www.calpe.es.

The Department of Planning and Land Protection would like to take advantage of the arrival of the summer season to remind restaurants, bars and cocktail bars of the necessary requirements for opening a terrace on public roads.

In this regard, they must never be higher than three metres and must respect existing trees.

It is essential to use quality tables and seats, and the furniture must not display advertising. Additionally, the legs must be covered in rubber, in order to minimize noise made when moving the furniture around.

The aim is to improve the appearance of Calp’s streets in order to turn the municipality into an excellent touristic area.

Due to this, and as outlined in a regulatory by-law concerning the fee for occupying public roads, the sunshades and awnings of the bars must be a natural white or clear beige colour and cannot show any type of advertising.

Additionally, the sunshades cannot be anchored in the pavement. They must have their own form of anchor on a squared metal sheet or with a mobile support.

Awnings must always be a minimum of 250 centimetres from the pavement and in terms of upper alignment, they cannot protrude onto the pavement by more than 20 centimetres.

Terraces located on pavements in parking zones and next to traffic must be set up on platforms. These platforms must have lighting and have a railing for pedestrian protection, it should be made of wood and be 1.10 metres high. The platform should also have reflectors on corners.

Furthermore, terraces must leave space for the movement of pedestrians and/or vehicles. This space will vary depending on the type of road (pedestrian, semipedestrian, traffic streets with pavements less than two metres wide, plazas and free spaces as well as one-way roads) and it is outlined in the by-law.

Restaurant owners interested in opening a terrace have to submit an application at least one month prior to installation of the terrace.

Lastly, for a more detailed look at the by-law requirements you can visit the Council’s website. By Russell Ash

PINE PLAGUE - JAVEA RAISES THE ALARM By Fred Archer

Forests in the Costa Blanca are becoming increasingly under threat, as the state of drought across the region continues, the piner borer beatles thrive, on the weakened trees. The pine borer (Tomicus destruens) has been killing thousands of pines throughout the region due to the drought which has led to a proliferation of this small beatle who are wreaking havoc in forested areas.

Javea town halll have now sounded the alarm after detecting and cutting down the first pines affeted by the pest in the Montgó natural park.

The municipal biologist, Ignasi Astor highlighted about the huge outbreak 2 years ago also in the time of drought, where the pines had weakened facilitating the spread of the insect. Since then measures have been taken by the council to help control the pest and prevent its rapid spread, which consist of cutting down any affected trees as quickly as possible in and around the mountain.

The problem, says Astor, is that some of the affected trees are on private land in which they cannot access without permission. The town hall is asking citizens to be vigilant for signs of Tomicus, and remove any effected trees as soon as possible.

NO HOTEL FOR LIGHTHOUSE

The application to convert the lighthouse at Cap de San Antoni into a hotel has been rejected unanimously by Javea town hall.

After a careful look into the detrimental effects the building would have on the urban surroundings, the private proposal was rejected.

ed in the headland between Montgó mountain and the sea and offers amazing panoramic views of the area. It was declared a nature reserve in 1993 and occupies an area of 110 hectares, situated opposite and to the north of Javea. After the town halls decision they also called for the suspension of any

building works related to the development of the lighthouse. Traffic light installations and other infrastructures have been stopped with immediate effect. During this suspended building period any current or finished refurbishments will be checked by the Municipal Technical Services Department.

The event commenced at 09:00am from the beach of l'Ampolla and concluded at 6:00pm.

U3A MORAIRA-TEULADA SPEAKER AT THE MONTHLY MEETING

Rarely do we send a write up to the newspapers about our speakers, but this month is an exception. Jeremy Kenton, a local Osteopath, came along to tell us why we shouldn’t really be walking upright. Apparently even though we evolved from “walking” on all fours, our spines didn’t follow suit and so many of us have back problems. However Jeremy made the talk so much fun and had all the members laughing, it was a real tonic to be so entertained on a Monday morning. Jeremy asked for “volunteers” and to this end local musician, Dave Peachey, stepped forward. He then stripped down to his underwear climbed on to a table, donned a lady member’s wedge heeled shoes, had my, very heavy, bag on one shoulder and proceeded to walk up and down

the table. All the while Jeremy was pointing out the pitfalls of heels and heavy bags while, I’m afraid, people laughed, though we could all see his point.

After Dave was relieved from his ordeal, three more people climbed on different tables and had to stand still while Jeremy continued his talk. This time it was to show how standing for long periods, in a queue for instance, affected us and most people end up slumped or standing on one leg.

Everything we do each day affects our spines especially if the action is repeated; driving, working on a computer or laptop, washing up, even loading the dishwasher is all bad for our health. When asked what we could do about it Jeremy said that as

these things are necessary simply be aware of what you are doing, how you are standing/sitting, change positions and take rests frequently.

It was an excellent presentation and we hope that all who listened gained some benefit from his expertise. Jill Cole, President, thanked Jeremy and he was presented with a gift of appreciation, with a hearty round of applause from the members.

The purchase of the new vehicle was funded by a single donation from The Asociación Benéfica de Teulada – a magnificent

achievement – but T.M. Lions separately donated 4,780.80 euros, being the cost of purchasing and installing a powered hoist at the rear of the mini bus to make it easier for anyone with mobility problems to get into and out of the vehicle.

The hand over ceremony was also attended by Sr Antoni Joan Bertomeu Vallés, the Alcalde of Teulada Moraira, who expressed his warm appreciation of the donation of the new mini bus to The Alzheimer Centre which is an important and well used facility within the Teulada Moraira area, and upon which a good number of local families rely for support.

6YRS AFTER PROPERTY CRASH, SPAIN BUILDS

When Spain's property bubble burst in 2008, the country was plunged into an economic crisis that threw millions of people out of work.

Now, after six hard years, and even though hundreds of thousands of properties stand empty, building has restarted in the country.

The decade before the crash saw an allout building frenzy in the eurozone's fourth-largest economy. Around 700,000 houses were built each year during the 2000s until the bubble burst, more than in Britain, France and Germany combined.

At the same time, municipal and local governments, flush with cash in part from the sale of building licences, undertook massive infrastructure projects, such as Huesca airport in the foothills of the Pyrenees in northeastern Spain, which opened in 2007 and is now mostly empty.

Nearly 1.9 million people worked in the building sector before the economic crisis. Now the sector employs fewer than 700,000.

But in recent months building firms have started hiring again. The sector created nearly 10,000 jobs in November, according to employment ministry figures published earlier in December.

Spain Builds Again

The slight uptick in the sector is not limited to public works, with the building of private homes up slightly as well. "The improvement in investment in the construction sector that has been noticed since the start of the year seems to have continued during recent months," the Bank of Spain wrote in its latest bulletin at the end of November.

Among the factors giving the sector a boost are low interest rates, easier household credit, a rise in the number of building permits issued and a return to modest economic growth, said Miguel Cardoso, chief economist at Spain's second-largest

Home building is up despite a huge stock of unsold homes because many of these empty dwellings are not in urban areas like Madrid and Barcelona where the economy is improving at a faster clip and demand is rising, Cardoso said.

Most of the empty new houses are found along Spain's extensive coastline or in the interior of the country that were intended as holiday homes or secondary residences, he added.

These encouraging signs will not translate into a rise in the construction sector's turnover for 2014, however.

bank BBVA.

"There are a series of factors that make us think that we have reached an inflection point," he said.

The number of building permits issued in Spain during the first nine months of 2014 rose by 5.7 per cent over the same period in 2013, according to BBVA.

Activity in the sector is expected to fall by 2.4 per cent in 2014 before finally rising in 2015, according to a forecast from the Catalan Institute of Construction Technology (Itec).

It predicts activity will rise 1.8 per cent in 2015 before growing by 5.0 per cent in 2017. That is good news for a sector that suffered such a huge fall.

If you are living and working in Spain, you will be liable to pay Spanish taxes on your income and assets and will need to file a Spanish tax return.

- you have capital gains and savings income of more than EUR 1,600 a year - it is your first year declaring tax residency in Spain.

Spain is divided into 12 autonomous regions, and taxes are split between state and regional governments, with each autonomous region deciding on its own tax rates and liabilities. The tax year runs from 1 January to 31 December.

Non-residents of Spain If you live in Spain for less than six months (183 days), you are classed as a non-resident and will only be taxed on the income earned in Spain. Your income is taxed at flat rates with no allowances or deductions. If you are a non-resident and own a property in Spain, whether or not you rent it out, you will need to submit a tax return and pay ‘imputed’ income tax on your property as well as local property taxes.

If you are resident in Spain you will be subject to Spanish taxation on your worldwide income. If you are a non-resident in Spain you will pay Spanish tax on Spanish income only, including potential income on Spanish property even if you don’t rent out your property. Other taxes include those on property, goods and services (VAT) and investment interest.

The information given here provides a general overview only; you should always get professional advice from a Spanish financial professional concerning your specific circumstances.

Who has to pay taxes in Spain?

Residents of Spain If you have been living in Spain for six months (183 days) or more of the calendar year (not necessarily consecutively) or you have your main ‘vital’ interests in Spain (for example, your family or business is in Spain), then you are classed as a Spanish resident for tax purposes.

As a Spanish resident, you will need to submit a Spanish tax return and pay Spanish income tax, at progressive scale rates, on your worldwide income if:

- your annual income from employment is over EUR 22,000. - you are self-employed or run your own business; - you receive rental income of over EUR 1,000 a year;

You will have to declare all overseas assets worth more than EUR 50,000 (using Modelo 720). Your taxable income is the income left after deductions for social security contributions, pension, personal allowance, professional costs, etc.

Dual taxation

Personal income tax is called Impuesto de Renta sobre las Personas Fisicas or IRPF. Taxes are split between state and region and while the state has reduced taxes and simplified the income bands, this has not happened right across Spain. Each region sets its own tax bands and rate of income tax, so how much income tax you pay depends on where you live. THE COST OF BUYING A HOUSE IN SPAIN

If you've been wondering about buying a house in Spain, now is the time. There is plenty of property out there and it's on the market at a very good price. Lots of Brits are taking advantage of this and it's good to see that the market is looking up. If you do decide to buy, you need to be clear just how much you can afford to spend. You must budget, not only for the cost of the property, but other factors as well. The process of buying a house involves additional expense. It can seem at times that everyone wants their cut. Don't let this put you off, however. With a few calculations you can build in the additional costs and still have plenty left for your home in Spain.

What costs can I expect? The additional costs that you can expect can be divided into four categories: * External costs * Taxes * Legal fees for the purchasing process * Banking procedures and money exchange External costs During the buying process you will need to sign in front of a Notary. The Notary is a professional within

the Spanish law system who legalises agreements and contracts. The scale of the Notary fee is fixed by law and starts at 800 euros. The actual amount to be paid will depend on the extent of the legal provision of the Title Deed. The Title Deed will then need to be inscribed in the Spanish Land Registry (Registro de la Propiedad). This is an official registry that protects the rights of the owners of a Spanish property. The fee normally starts at 400 euros but depends on the value of the property

. The cost of buying a house in Spain Taxes During the purchasing process there will be taxes to pay. Which taxes these are depends upon the type of property you buy.

New build properties are liable for IVA ( The Spanish equivalenmt of VAT) at 10%, plus stamp duty (AJD) at 1.5%. (NB this can vary depending on where your property is located.)

Resale properties are liable for ITP, which is transfer tax at 10%. Again, this depends on where your property is located.

Food Review - Himalaya Tandoori Altea Authentic Indian cuisine in Altea situated along the sea front just past the port of Altea. Nepalese food is certainly different as far as curry spices and tastes are concerned. One of my favourite foods is curry, so I was excited to try the difference between my usual curry experience and the Nepalese cuisine on offer at the Altea Himalaya. For me the whole experience of dining out is actually enjoying the meal in a restaurant that offers the ambiance and the pleasure of authentic hospitality.

Arriving at the restaurant you can immediately smell the amazing aromas coming from the busy kitchen, together with the stylish table layout. My visit was to take part in the appeal to help Nepal, with a special evening with all proceeds being given to the fund.

The mixed starter combined a selection of marinated meats, similar to traditional Indian tikka and kebab, but offered a smooth spicy coating over perfectly cooked meat, that was soft and juicy complemented with a mint dressing. Everyone on the table commented on how beautiful the food was and this was just the beginning of our meal, so we were all quite excited to get the main courses underway.

with the choice of spicy and hot, including lamb and chicken dishes, served together with the puffy tender nan bread and rice.

Considering the restaurant was full, the speed of service could not of been better. All of the food was hot and cooked fresh and we are all very impressed with the quality and presentation. The finale was a mixed sweet of fresh fruit and homemade ice cream that cut through the taste of the spices, and left a fresh palate and was a perfect complement to the rest of the meal The Buzz team highly recommend the Himalaya Tandoori, and if you are closer to Moraira they have a restaurant there too. Himalaya Tandoori Carrer Sant Pere 37, Altea 622 810 735 / 965 840 968 Open every day 6:00 pm – 12:00 am

The selection of curries includes a vegetarian option of cheese with peas. My choice was a spicy hot curry with sauce. The other guests were a little bit more careful

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY THE BUZZ

CRYPTIC CROSSWORD

wE35 WEEKLY HOROSCOPES ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

Off the cuff remarks made by someone further up the career ladder sets you thinking in radical new ways, so keep your eyes and ears open for any opportunity to adapt your way of working. You’re looking for new solutions to old problems. You may find them.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

This week's lunar high redresses the balance and will turn recent negativity on its head. You finally feel that luck is on your side, so just accept it, don’t question it. Your open honest communications make you everyone’s go to person, personally and professionally. GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

Now that you’re finally back on a winning streak, you’ll turn your attention to your flagging social life. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine as you catch up where you left off and will be back to speed in no time. Try to get some along time before the weekend. Time to think.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

You may have to cancel some social engagements with friends or partners this week in preference to doing something in your professional life. Others should realise how important your career is right now, and they do, so you feel quite bad about letting them down. LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

You’re getting bored and fed up with the same routine at both work and at home, but there’s a boost in your career on the way as long as you don’t push too hard for changes before you get it. Be patient and bide your time. You know what they say about all comes to he who waits.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

Now that your life is running smoothly and you’ve no challenges to face, you could feel a bit bored and redundant, so don’t make waves just because it’ll give your life a frisson of excitement. Others are more sensitive than you think to your supposedly witty asides. LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

You’re feeling footloose and fancy free and that’s wonderful if you’re single, as it puts you in the right frame of mind to get out there into the world to see what’s on offer. If on the other hand you’re partnered, the warning lights are flashing. Pay heed. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

The breakneck speed you’ve been working to suddenly grinds to a halt. Don’t get annoyed at this, albeit its been rather sudden. You couldn’t have kept up that pace for much longer if truth be known. Take time to gather your thoughts and work out where you go from here.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

You’re focused, positive and determined to do everything right this week, but minor things keep going wrong and you’re starting to stress. Added to the fact is that others you trusted keep letting you down, and your recipe for success seems to be crumbling. Breathe!

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

Life seems to be going along nicely for you, not too fast and not too slow, but someone is standing in the shadows watching your progress and seeing how flexible you can be in any given situation. Don’t worry, this is not a bad thing. You’re being sized up to be head hunted.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

You’ll finally manage to convey your true feelings to loved ones this week, and believe me, it’ll make all the difference. You can be such a closed book at times and you rarely give others any idea of how you’re feeling, so they feel they’re stumbling in the dark. Not any more.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

If you want to turn situations around in your favour this week you’re going to have to take your time, think it through properly, and proceed with caution. Yes, you’re going to have to take risks too, but just don’t allow then to be too extreme. Good luck.

FORMER TOP GEAR PRESENTERS FILMING T h e L a t e s t B U Z Z f r o m t h e M o t o r i n g Wo r l d

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has returned to his controversy-courting ways with a tongue-in-cheek tweet about killing a dog. The motoring journalist posted a picture of colleague James May standing over the seeminglydefunct animal with a rifle. Clarkson captioned the picture: "No animals were harmed in the making of this Interceptors scene. Apart from the dog." The photo was taken as the two men filmed new material, to be used in their upcoming live tour with Top Gear's third presenter, Richard Hammond, reveals the Daily Express. After being dismissed as host of BBC motoring show, the Top Gear Live stage shows have been rebranded Clarkson, Hammond and May Live. The three men will visit Belfast, Sheffield and London on the tour, starting in Northern Ireland on 22 May. The dog picture has been re-tweeted more than 8,000 times, says the Express. So far no concrete plans have been announced for the trios return to television, but the Daily Mirror reported last week that the three presenters visited ITV director Peter Fincham's west London home for "secret" talks on bringing a new version of Top Gear to the channel.

But according to the Daily Star, the trio were also spotted this week holding secret talks with producers from online video streaming service Netflix. The paper quotes a "television source" who said "they all met at the Covent Garden Hotel. It was a secret talk with some of the bosses from Netflix about a new show." A move to Netflix may be easier for Clarkson and co than signing with ITV, the Star says, because ITV's advertisers may get in the way of any potential deal: "Netflix are definitely the keenest to sign the trio. ITV get millions from car advertising. And they are worried Jeremy will upset one of the motoring manufacturers." Sky is also known to have made "repeated attempts" to poach the former Top Gear team, the Daily Telegraph reports. May and Hammond have ruled out a return to the BBC without Clarkson. Last month, May told The Guardian

that he had no intention of carrying on as a presenter of Top Gear without Clarkson, who had his c o n t r a c t dropped after he punched and verbally assaulted a producer. May told the paper it would be "lame" to co-present with "a surrogate Jeremy". J e r e m y Clarkson tweet sparks rumours of new show from former Top Gear team 08 May A tweet by Jeremy Clarkson featuring an image of a sports car with a film crew in the background set Twitter alight this week with speculation that the former Top Gear host is already working on a new car show. The photograph shows a bright yellow Chevrolet Corvette on a windswept racetrack. In the background, someone who looks like Richard Hammond stands next to a film crew with a camera. The tweet reads simply: "I took this today".

VOLKSWAGEN BETS BIG ON SEAT May 13th – May 19th 2015

The infusion represents the "largest industrial investment ever made" in Spain and will be used to create new infrastructure and models. Volkswagen was coy on specifics but confirmed the money will go to their industrial facilities in Spain, the Volkswagen plant in Navarra and to SEAT. There's no word on what new models we

In a statement, Volkswagen AG Board of Management member Dr. Francisco Javier García Sanz said “Spain is a key country within the Volkswagen Group’s strategy, this project is a guarantee for the future of the Group facilities in Spain, which are preparing themselves for the assignment of new models." COSTA BLANCA BOWLS RESULTS

vistacostablanca.com

The annual challenge between Javea and BBC ended with Javea's gents retaining the Walton Trophy and BBC's ladies regaining the Rose Bowl. Both matches were evenly balanced as the second legs started, but our ladies had the tough task of going to BBC to defend their lead. Despite winning four of the seven

matches they unfortunately lost by 12 shots overall and our congratulations go to Christine Mawson and her squad. The gents match proved to be very similar to the first leg, with Javea winning four of the matches

There was 1 Monday Night Game,2 F.A.Cup Semi-Finals and 7 Premier League Games at the Weekend which produced for the Alfaz Fantasy Football League 23 goals,6 clean sheets,35 yellow cards and 1 red one which was Burnley's Striker Barnes who picked up 2 yellows playing against Everton at Goodison Park. As the last Day of the Season creeps ever closer Dennis's Team The Potters crashed through the 1,000 points barrier while at the same time they seized the opportunity to stretch their advantage at the top of the League to a massive 75 points over Super Rhys. Steve's Team Themuttsnutz.com are only 5 points behind Super Rhys and have replaced Keith's Team Max & Paddy in 3rd place.Gary's Cockney Army are on the march and have jumped up 6 places to 9th spot which gives them a chance of a top 4 finish. At the foot of the Table Dan's Team Boro Man Dan are still in with a chance of escaping the dreaded Wooden Spoon as they are now only 11 points away from Les's Team Have Not Got a Clue.

In our Mark Carter Ladies Section Lesley's Team Laws Lads have clung on to the top spot for the 3rd Week running. They have a very fragile 4 point lead over Sarah's Team The Dons then comes Pauline's Vodka Army in 3rd place. This League is proving to be the most competitive with all top 5 Teams all in with a chance of lifting this prodigious Trophy. At the other end of the Table Gil's Kippax are still struggling to make up any ground on Kate's Team Mixed Bunch .the gap as now widened this Week to 37 points. Super Rhys are closing in on Max & Paddy in our Golden Boot League which is sponsored by Leonard Knowles Construction. They have managed to peg back the lead to only 33 points when at one time Max & Paddy had a 61 point advantage. The bottom of this Section is quite unpredictable as each Week we have a new Team with the task of holding everybody else up.This Week Jimmy's Team Simple have dropped in on the bottom spot.I think Jimmy is following in his Missus's footsteps who just happens to be bottom of our Ladies Section. In our U . K . T. V. S P A I N Junior Super Rhys have stepped on the gas and have increased their lead at the top to 49 points over Harley's Ginger Ninja. Sponge Bob XI have moved back into a top 3 place and are back in contention.Last Week I said that Calum's Team Rees-Red-Devils were nailed on to pick up the Wooden Spoon in this Section and so far they are showing no signs of proving

and extending their overall victory margin to 30 shots. Photos Javea Captain, Alan Phillips, (left)Trefor Evans, BBC Vice Captain.(right) and BBC Ladies! (above)

NICO REIGNS IN SPAIN May 6th – May 12th 2015

Nico Rosberg completed a "fantastic weekend" to put himself firmly in the title picture as he took his first win of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix

The German had struggled to get close to Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the opening four races of the year but was back to his best in Barcelona, winning from pole to close to 20 points behind the reigning champion.

A poor start from Hamilton instantly gave Rosberg the upper hand on a circuit notoriously bad for overtaking - with Sebastian Vettel also getting ahead of the Brit before the first corner.

Despite then suffering a long first pit stop, a switch to a three-stop strategy was enough for Hamilton to jump Vettel and take second place, with the German once again occupying the final step of the podium.

Rosberg never looked in danger of relinquishing the lead and won by 17.5 sec-

Professional Footballers' Association. Last year's runner-up in the drivers' championship had played second fiddle to Hamilton until this race but looked sharper in Bahrain three weeks ago and carried that into the opening European race of the campaign.

The Belgium international, who joined Chelsea from Lille for Ă‚ÂŁ32 million ($50 million, 45 million euros), topped the poll of more than 300 journalists with 53 percent of the vote. Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was the runner-up, with Chelsea captain John Terry third.

"It is seven points (more than Hamilton) and at one point I thought maybe Sebastian can keep Lewis behind, which on one side isn't good for the team, but in terms of my points it would have been better.

"Everyone brought upgrades here but still we're dominating in such a way and that's fantastic to see - more than in the last race."

AWARDS DOUBLE FOR HAZARD vistacostablanca.com

London on May 21. FWA chairman Andy Dunn, of the Sunday Mirror, said: "The list of truly world-class players on the Football Writers' Association roll of honour is a long one and Eden Hazard is a worthy addition.

"A creator, a goalscorer and the hardest of workers, Hazard has been a constant source of threat for the Barclays Premier League champions. "But it is not just his trickery, his pace, his artistry and his marksmanship that make Hazard such an invaluable component of Jose Mourinho's Chelsea squad, it is his durability.

"Hazard has started all 36 Premier League matches and, considering the particularly close attention he receives from opponents, that is a feat in itself," Dunn added.

NO PLANS TO RECALL PIETERSEN

Andrew Strauss, newly in place as England's director of cricket, has seemingly ended Kevin Pietersen's international career for a second time by ruling out a recall on the grounds of a lack of trust. While Strauss claimed that Pietersen was "not banned", he said the batsman England's leading run-scorer across all formats - would not be considered for selection during the forthcoming Ashes summer.

Having made a magnificent unbeaten triple-hundred for Surrey on Monday, Pietersen provided further fuel for those demanding he be recalled, saying: "I want my England place and I deserve my England place." But Strauss and the ECB's chief executive, Tom Harrison, met with Pietersen hours later to inform him that there was no way back, despite Colin Graves' remarks that if he scored runs in county cricket the selectors "can't ignore him".

Kevin Pietersen hit a superb triple century, a career-best, for Surrey on Monday. Pietersen, sacked by England last year but desperate for a recall, brought up his 300 with his 11th six against Leicestershire.

That is what England have chosen to do although, somewhat bafflingly, Strauss revealed that Pietersen had at the same time been offered a role as an advisor in limited-overs cricket - an opportunity Pietersen declined.

RICKIE FOWLER DELIVERS MAJOR PERFORMANCE

Fowler arrived at TPC Sawgrass for The Players Championship to news that his peers had voted him and Ian Poulter as the most overrated players in the game. Publicly he gave no indication the Sports Illustrated poll bothered him. Privately he was seething, those closest to him said, including swing coach Butch Harmon.

Using the stinging result of the survey as extra fuel, Fowler strung together a brilliant stretch of golf late on a hot, sun-drenched day to win the biggest tournament of his career.

With four birdies and an eagle in his last six holes — the final red number coming from 17 feet on 18 — and two more birdies in four holes in a playoff against Kevin Kisner and Sergio Garcia, Fowler won the Tour's flagship event with a 5footer on the fourth playoff hole as chants of Ric-kie, Ric-kie, Ric-kie roared through the fading sunlight.

Fowler, who will move up to a career-high No. 8 in the world rankings, needed just 17 strokes in the final six holes of regulation and finished with a 5-under-par 67 and at 12 under. Garcia, who led by two at the turn, made birdies at 16 and 17 and shot 68 to earn a spot in the playoff. Kisner, who lost earlier this year in a playoff at the RBC Heritage, also birdied 16 and 17 and shot 69 to get into the playoff. His birdie putt on the 72nd hole from 12 feet for the win burned the edge.

QPR CHALLENGE FFP

QPR – whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed when they lost 6-0 to Manchester City on Sunday – filed accounts in March showing a loss of £9.8m during their last season in the Football League.

CITY KO Q . P. R

Queens Park Rangers were KNOCKED OUT of the Premier League on Sunday after Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick in a crushing 6-0 defeat that sent them down after just one season in the top flight. QPR needed to win their remaining three fixtures to stand any chance of survival but defeat at the Etihad Stadium means the west London club are nine points adrift of 17thplaced Newcastle United with two games

remaining.

Second place City have now booked their place in next season's Champions League.

QPR, who will join Burnley in the Championship, have won just seven away points this season and were behind in the fourth minute when Aguero dinked over Robert Green before Aleksander Kolarov’s free kick doubled their lead in the 32nd minute.

But that figure was reached by writing off loans of £60m, a move that might not be permitted under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The club could have a fine of £58m hanging over them if they are found guilty of breaches, and it is possible QPR could be kicked out of the Football League altogether if they do not pay up, and have to start life again in the Conference.

Football League FFP regulations were introduced in 2012 to “reduce the levels of losses being incurred at some clubs and, over time, establish a league of financially self-sustaining professional football clubs”.

There is some leeway regarding certain losses, such as investment in youth infrastructure, but even though QPR’s owners are willing to write off the loans, operating losses brought about by high wages mean they could still fall foul of FFP.

But QPR are challenging the legality of the Football League rules.
