OUT AND ABOUT

Dear Readers

vistacostablanca.com

The hot weather has arrived and with soaring temperatures this week in the 30's, we really can say now it's Summer. I was moaning last week that the cloud covered skies that were above Aqua Natura spoilt our afternoon and we haven't seen a single cloud in the sky since. Well that's life! We still had a great time and can't wait to go back there soon to cool off. I am pleased now to announce the date for the Heat FM Summer Fiesta Launch Party 26th June 4pm 8pm being held at the Mint bar in Javea a perfect location overlooking the sea. The party will be live on air 90.3 FM Altea to Benidorm and on 106.8 Calpe to Denia. We will welcome everyone to come along and take part in the live competitions and have some fun with Heat FM in association with "The Weekly Buzz Newspaper."

You can also listen live on the web site www.heatfmspain.com or search for the App on your mobile. Every weekday you can take part in our daily competitions and most of all get to hear the very latest hits with the best hit music from all of the past decades.

Next week we will publish the HEAT FM Summer Fiesta schedule so please don't forget to pick up your Weekly Buzz Newspaper. It's going to be a busy month with so many events and activities for you to join in. Also with the 23rd being the celebrations of "San Juan" this typically is celebrated along the coast of the Costa Blanca with bonfires and supper on the beach. A large gathering of locals making a huge beach party and the center points that are seen every year are in Javea and also in La Cala Finestrat. Smaller local events are seen in most areas including Benidorm, Calpe, Albir and Altea. Paddling in the sea at midnight is the favorite tradition as well as the eating & drinking. Send us your photos and information of your San Juan party night experience and we will include this in the issue of the following day 24th June. Saturday the 27th is also a big event day at the International fair in Javea where Heat FM will be entertaining the guests and mixing with the visitors live on air.

I welcome your feedback on both the newspaper and the radio shows that kick off each day with "The Big Breakfast" hosted by Shorty B from 8am. My direct email is marco@vistacostablanca.com so please let me know thoughts and suggestions.

Freak Accidents in Denia vistacostablanca.com

Two drivers managed to get their cars into unusual accidents within 24 hours of each other in Denia.

The first of the strange incidents apparently took place during the early hours of Sunday which attracted the attention of neighbors and passers-by through the morning as they woke up to see a car parked in the middle of a restaurant terrace.

June 10th – June 16th 2015

The black Audi slammed into the boundary wall turning it into rubble, hitting an umbrella and coming to a halt in the middle of the terrace. The second incident took place in the city center first thing on Monday.

The driver rammed his car into the front of a local business, the driver apparently lost control as he started the car, which was parked in a bay in front of the commercial establishment, and damages in this incident however were only minor.

LIGHTS,CAMERA, ACTION! By Spencer Williams

Cameras were rolling at Camping Villamar on Monday as the Blakewell North team were filming for a new documentary which will be broadcast on Channel 5 next January. Curtis and Julie have spent the last 4 weeks in Benidorm, meeting expats that have upped sticks to live the dream.

They have been speaking to many Brits here and are following the handover of

Levi´s Showboat from Wayne and Des to the Coburn family, Ding Dong Val – the third highest selling Avon rep in Spain and on Monday were with Lesley Taylor at Villamar.

Aqua Lesley as she is best known is an aqua aerobics instructor and the crew filmed her taking one of her popular classes. She moved to Spain in 2002 and started working on the blanket trips, like her mother before her but left that behind and indulged in what is her passion – keeping fit. The Blakewell team will be in the resort until end of September so you may spot them around – they are still on the lookout for any interesting individuals to take part in the series, so if you fancy a go call Curtis or Julie on 604 186 639.

The eight-year-old boy was finally reunited with his mother, a month after he was discovered hidden inside a suitcase in an attempt to be smuggled into Spain to join his family.

Eight-year-old, Adou and his mother Lucie Ouattara were reunited on Monday in Spain's north African territory of Ceuta.

Adou had been cared for at a juvenile centre but his mother was allowed to pick him up after a court granted permission after conducting a DNA test to prove their relation.

It was an emotional meeting after Adou

was discovered last month by authorities curled up inside a suitcase at the border crossing in Ceuta.

However the story is not over as just two hours before meeting their son, Lucie had to pay her husband's bail of €5,000, so that the family could be together, as reported by Spanish newspaper El Pais.

The boy’s father Ali has been on remand in prison since the child was discovered, facing criminal charges for the smuggling attempt. Ali paid traffickers €5,000 which he believed would buy his son documentation and a way into Spain. Ali must still appear before court once a month and is barred from leaving the country, according to newspaper ABC.

The Department of Tourism has organized in collaboration with the Natural Park, Serra Gelada, a theatrical evening visit to l'Albir lighthouse to demonstrate what the life of the lighthouse keepers was like in the early twentieth century, an activity included in the program celebrating Serra Gelada winning the "Natural Park of the Month" award. Attendees will be sent on a trip back in time with Miquel Masanet, Albir lighthouse keeper, who will accompany them on the walk up and visit, telling stories of life in a lighthouse back in 1901.

Until the mid-nineteenth century, only 20 lighthouses illuminated the Spanish coast. It was then in 1847, during the reign of Elizabeth II, when the First General

Maritime Lighting Plan was approved and construction of most towers that you can see today on the Spanish coast began, Albir lighthouse was lit for the first time on April 30, 1863.

The lighthouse keepers had a difficult job, since throughout the day had multiple duties, such as ensuring the maintenance of the light and overall condition of the building, making meteorological readings, carrying out daily correspondence and records and of course operating the light.

Those interested in attending should send their registrations before June 12th through email to museovillaromana@lalfas.com. Places are limited. The organizers recommend comfortable shoes and to bring water. The activity will take place on Saturday June 13th, from 8pm to 10pm.

Employment Workshops Pave the Way

The renovation of the 'Carabineros de l'Albir' (Police Barracks/HQ) and green area that surrounds the building are thanks to the fantastic work of the municpilaties 'Employment Workshops'

By Spencer Williams

This paid training program of the European Social Fund (ESF) worth over 270,000 euros, has allowed 30 unemployed people in the town to be working for 6 months. "Thanks to these employment workshops we have created a green area outside the barracks, repopulated with native plants reproduced in the nursery of the Carrascos park, and we have also begun the rehabilitation of the building, strengthening the structure and renovating the

deck which was badly damaged, "said the mayor, Vicente Arques, after conducting a followup visit of the renovations. "These are programs that allow us, on the one hand, hiring unemployed people in the city and on the other, develop projects of cultural and historical heritage," he said.

The City of L'Alfas del Pi has requested a new employment workshop to continue the rehabilitation of the building. The police headquarters of l'Albir was built in 1829, was one of the first barracks built in the province of Alicante along with Altea and la Olla.

With this rehabilitation a significant part of the history of the town will be recovered, which at one point due to lack of maintenance, was in danger of totally disappearing.

SALT MARSH DRYING UP CALPE

The Las Salinas de Calpe, one of the most significant environmental emblems in Calpe is now clearly reflecting the rise in temperature and the issue of drought in the region.

By Spencer Williams

The salt marsh that you can find in the center of Calpe is considered a local beauty spot, but the warm weather is causing it to dry out, with the bottom of the marsh now being clearly visible in places.

An image of Les Salines released by the ACEC Tuesday shows how the water levels are dropping back from the bank, exposing the cracked bottom of the marshland. However, it's not just the lack of rain that’s causing the

dramatic drop in the water level, as it has been discovered that there has been a fault in the pump supplying sea water to the wetland which has now lost over 18,000 cubic meters of water. To make matters worse the backup pump has also been completely damaged leaving fears from the town hall and community that the local ecosystem could be damaged.

The town council has ensured that new pump will be installed to help recover the lost water which will take about five days. According to the newspaper 'informacion', this new pump will be injecting water into the lagoon at about 90 cubic meters of water per hour.

VOLUNTEERS AT THE READY By Spencer Williams

Volunteers are now at the ready and on the lookout for fires breaking out across the Javea area, they will be stationed at various view points to help keep an eye out across the widest area possible.

Traditionally in Javea and Denia the campaign is normally confined to July & August but after one of the biggest fires in the area that destroyed over 444 hectares a little more than a year again across the Montgo Park and several fires since the Civil Protection service has been brought into action early due to the above average temperatures and drought crisis.

The City Council has also given a brand new vehicle to the Civil Protection service to help the team carry

out their tasks.

Both the mayor and the Town Hall wanted to express its satisfaction with the efficiency and speed with which the Civil Defence volunteers have been involved in the last two fires, showing very high skills in their firefighting and work with the fire service that look after the park area. Plants Fighting Back

After the recent fires across Pego Mother Nature has been fighting back, recent pictures have been seen on social media of plants already growing in burnt out areas. One stunning picture taken by Facebook user ‘DanLin Pego’ shows how a house was saved from the destruction. The thrilling picture sends shivers down

your spine, as the experience of you or your house surrounded by a wall of flames would have been a terrifying experience. This is an amazing example of the skill and courage of

the Civil Protection Service and firefighters that protect the area and those who live in it.

TOTAL BLOW OUT U3A Rummikubs 1 By Spencer Williams

A British couple had a lucky escape last week after a tyre on their car blew out, which resulted in them rolling the car coming to a halt on its roof. The couple were driving down the Cami Cabanes in Javea at around 4pm on Thursday 4th June when the accident happened. As a result there were delays to local roads, with local police and Guardia Civil assisting, whilst the vehicle was recov-

ered, and the passengers taken to hospital for a checkup. Both were released with minor injuries

You can expect some hot competition among Javea U3A members this summer. When the heat is on, members of the association’s “Rummikubs 2” group just carry on playing. Here they are enjoying the sunshine on the ter-

race at Café Cortado in Javea Port, where they will be playing on Thursday afternoons throughout the summer. For details of the group and other Javea U3A activities, see the website www.U3Ajavea.

The Home Condition Report (HCR) 26

PROPERTY

1.- What is it? It is a document which certifies the actual condition, functioning, and sanitation of a property at the time of inspection by means of a written and photographic report, which is endorsed by the Spanish Association of Professional Home Inspectors (ASIPV), an autonomous and independent organisation.

2.- How did it start? Home inspection services started in Spain only 10 months ago, although they have been used in the United States since 1960 in order to provide an added guarantee in real estate transactions. Home inspection services are available in several countries in Europe, such as the United Kingdom, and are currently being implemented in others.

3.- What is its purpose? To provide peace of mind , and to protect the interests of sellers, buyers, owners, and tenants. 4.- Who needs a home condition report? Anyone who wants to buy, sell, or lease a property, or anyone who has already leased their property. 5.- Who issues a home condition report? The home condition report is issued by a home inspector, who is a qualified and independent professional licensed by the Ministry for Education and Culture. 6.- Why should I commission a home condition report before leasing, buying, or selling a property? It is the only tool available in the market which will help you to avoid disagreeable surprises when selling or buying of property. It also provides landlords and tenants with an added guarantee during rental transactions, and peace of mind.

vistacostablanca.com

June 10th – June 16th 2015

7.- What added value does the home condition report provide? It enables home sellers to speed up and facilitate the sale by giving them an added advantage over other properties, and also reassures potential buyers. It provides homebuyers with detailed and impartial information about the property, which enables them to take a more informed decision more quickly. It also enables buyers to negotiate the price. It allows landlords to claim for any damage caused to the rental property, as the report is attached to the rental agreement and signed by both parties. It also acts a deterrent, because the tenant knows that they have to vacate the property in the same condition as described in the report. It enables landlords who have already leased their property to be sure that it will be properly maintained and used during the rental period. It guarantees tenants that the landlord cannot claim for any damage that was already present before they moved in.

8.- What added value does the home condition report provide that the reviews and inventories performed by real estate agencies do not? The report is drawn up by a qualified professional home inspector, who has successfully completed the training and practical period required by the Association. The inspection is meticulous and exhaustive, and must comply with the standards and procedures laid down by the Association, while the inspectors should use the appropriate tools when necessary. This means that the contents of the report are much more than just an inventory, or a checklist. In addition, it is prepared by a third party who has no bias to either side.

Javea leads the rise of prices in Spain as International Buyers Top Sales

One study notes that the region is scarce Valencian geographies where there has been a rebound in the housing market and ensures that the houses in the hands of the banks are running out.

The new promoter activity is also reactivating in Denia, Calpe and Benissa.

What until now was a subjective feeling begins to endorse with data: the Marina Alta is one of the few regions of the community of Valencia that is picking up in the the first quarter of this year and the report prepared by Tinsa, which shows in the area between Denia and Villajoyosa, 60% of customers who bought a holiday home is of international origin. Buyers from the United Kingdom were recorded as having been the highest number

of purchases, followed by France and the Nordic countries. The sale of property to foreigners was 8.557 in 2010 then to 16.443 last year 2014.

The analysis provides two significant changes that are that last year saw the decline for the demand for the Russian market and instead broke out with the Chinese, which increased by 63%. Long ago investors in the Asian countries were interested in the Costa

Blanca along the coast, although in the number of acquisitions of buyers still is not very high, only 243 purchases in 2015 but with most dwellings types are town houses of more than 500,000 euros.

BISTRO AMICS - ALBIR

A place you can visit any time or for anything you fancy, well almost.... If you want to stop by for a drink or snack then no problem, and there is also a full menu available for lunch and dinner

served all day. Bistro Amics offers a warm welcome to all and is perfectly positioned on the main Avenida next door to the Sunday market. There are so many restaurants in Albir and the main Avenida offers a massive choice. You can literally walk past one after another with different cuisines, so really how does one choose? Well first and foremost recommendation is the best guidance, although sometimes it is down to curiosity and a mouth-watering menu. In this instance the multiple recommendations I received to visit Bistro Amics made me eager, and excited.

The busy front terrace offers a comfortable setting for a perfect lunch, although many visitors stop by for drinks and snacks. The restaurant is spacious and full of natural light, offering a quiet and a comfortable ambiance. Daily specials boards are displayed to add to the incredible choice of dishes found on the menu. After much deliberating, the soup of the day was top of my list. French Onion Soup that can sometimes fall below expectations, but not in this case. The rich flavour of the broth with the cheesy toast floating on top was a

great way to start my meal, and “10 out of 10” for the chef’s recipe. My main course was also from the daily specials, Dover Sole with a creamy lime sauce served with Mediterranean vegetables and a choice of jacket potato, chips or rice. The other main course had to be one of the recommended favourites "Spicy Pork Spare Ribs".

The food was delicious and the service from the owner Tracy and her team was impeccable. Our meal was complimented by a bottle of the house Rose which was as enjoyable as the food. The Cuban head chef incorporates a range of spices and sauces in his cooking style. The menu is quite different, with an offering of international dishes. There are tapas to

share, pasta dishes, homemade burgers, salads, meats that include a half shoulder of lamb, Moroccan roast chicken, Steaks and ribs.

A trip to Albir with its wonderful walk to the lighthouse, as well as shops and a delightful beach, should be combined with a visit to Bistro Amics. Tracy and her team are waiting to welcome you and from my experience you will be overwhelmed with the quality of their food. Reservations are now being taken for Valentine’s Day, so book early to avoid disappointment.

“Excellent value for money”

Reviewed 15 April 2015 We were disappointed to find that l'almacera in teulada had closed down, as having only discovered it at the end of last year's holiday, we were looking forward to going again. However, Toppers, run by the same people, offers excellent value for money meals. Have so far had breakfast and a delish curry, looking forward to next Wednesday, when we'll try fish n chips night. Ambience is nowhere near the same as its s cafe rather than a restaurant, but that doesn't detract from the lovely food, and the same warm welcome.

Reviewed 22 May 2015 We were delighted with our lunch today. I have lived in Spain for 32 years and never had such an excellent menu del dia. Every course was a delight and the portions were more than enough. Between 4 of us we had every one of the 3 starters. My husbands Carpaccio of beef would not have disgraced a 5-star establishment. My avocado and smoked chicken salad was beautifully presented and tasted so good. Our to friends had mushrooms stuffed with goats cheese. They thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had the steak which was cooked perfectly for him. The rest of us had fillet of pork.......wonderfully tender and more than enough. What can I say about the chocolate fondant pudding...............amazing the chocolate spilled out of the centre and the sponge was soft and lovely. This is a place that gets 100% from us. The setting is beautiful with views out to sea with the Penon de Calpe on the skyline. We will be back next week. It was excellent value for money with good food and perfect service from cheerful and happy staff.

CRYPTIC CROSSWORD

wE33 WEEKLY HOROSCOPES ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

Just because things are going well and life is running smoothly, it doesn’t give you a license to act like a prima donna. Consider the feelings of those around you and give out what you’d like to receive. The lunar high on Thursday brings new interesting people into your life.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

There’s no denying you have good ideas, coupled with assertive actions, but throwing in your lot with others will only enhance the process for all concerned, so it’s a win/win for everyone. Minor challenges will be quashed immediately as you move into a stress free weekend.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

If you don’t know what you’re supposed to be doing, or what is expected of you in a working scenario, don’t be tempted to wing it or you may end up with egg on your face. Asking others what they need from you isn’t a failing. In fact they’ll applaud your assertive approach.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

Don’t be too quick to jump to conclusions in the work and career zone as you may be way off the mark. Midweek incentives keep you moving in the right direction, and as your confidence grows, you’ll feel comfortable enough to make your own suggestions over work plans. LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

Instead of working out what you’re going to do next over work, money and social position, it would be nice to put your partner’s wants and needs before your own this week. You’re optimistic about where you could go as a couple, but you need to let them know as well you know.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

You seem very lacking in self discipline this week, which is unlike you, but it doesn’t actually matter, as your charm and uncanny knack of getting your own way will see you through to success in just about everything you do. Your work life and social life are buzzing this week.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

You can no longer ignore the fact that you’re not very good at organising personal money matters, and that’s why you usually end up frustrated and worried as bills start to come in. Use your powers of communication to find the information you need to help you sort it out. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

It’s one of those weeks where you feel like taking chances. You’ll stick out your neck at work by going after a promotion, you’ll take a gamble financially by investing in something new, but your biggest risk taker will be going for gold over relationships. Do I hear wedding bells?

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

You can’t quite put your finger on why, but you’re edgy and irritated and it’s starting to wear you down. Take a step back and try to think logically. Slow and steady wins the race, and once you find out where the hiccup is located, you’ll rectify it immediately and will get back to life running smoothly.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

If you’re finding it hard to get your ideas across to others, or if you find it hard to keep their attention, maybe you need to ask yourself why others are constantly changing the goal posts. It’s not conducive to moving ahead with confidence and direction is it? Put your foot down.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

You seem to have captivated everyone around you and they’re now eating out of your hand. Use this influence to bring them around to your point of view, as luck is on your side and you’re willing to take risks. Mixing business with pleasure is a good move for you this week. PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

Ask yourself if your high handed attitude is what’s stopping you getting along with others? I think it may have a lot to do with it. If only they realised you’re acting like this because you’ve lost confidence in yourself. Maybe coming clean would show others you’re only human.

‘Clueless’ British Motorists At Risk Driving Abroad

T h e L a t e s t B U Z Z f r o m t h e M o t o r i n g Wo r l d

British motorists are taking big risks on roads abroad, with only 50% of travellers checking road laws and regulations before getting behind the wheel overseas.

While driving on the right-hand side of the road is the main thing occupying our minds when we drive abroad, other local motoring laws are often overlooked.

Research by price comparison site Go Compare has revealed that one in 10 of travelling motorists believed the driving laws to be the same overseas as they are in the UK.

And this is just the start, as it also has been noted that 50% of drivers on holiday think they don’t need additional insurance, while 75% fail, do not bother or dont feel like they need to arrange breakdown cover before they go away.

When driving overseas you have to also be aware of certain differences and changes to road rules that are specific to the country you are in. In France, for example, motorists need to travel with a personal breathal-

yser, while bespectacled drivers in Spain must carry a spare pair of glasses.

Matt Oliver, car insurance spokesperson at Go Compare, said that drivers should check out local driving laws before travelling to avoid falling foul of the law.

“Speed limits, traffic signals and priorities, local rules on alcohol limits, the use of mobile phones and safety requirements differ from one country to the next. Many people could find themselves facing on-the-spot fines or run the risk of an otherwise avoidable accident if they fail to plan ahead.

“Gocompare.com has created an interactive European driving map to allow drivers to check the key motor-

ing rules and requirements of European countries they are planning to visit.

“It also allows drivers to print out the information they need to keep in their glove box, along with their phrasebook.”

For more information about driving abroad and getting the right insurance cover, see Go Compare’s driving abroad guide. http://www.gocompare.com/carinsurance/driving-abroad/

PAPER LICENSE AXED CAR HIR HAVOC

The abolition of the paper part of the driving licence on Monday, has seen havoc for people trying to use the new service.

An online service is replacing the paper counterpart, which shows a driver's record, including offences and endorsements.

Anyone having to show their driving record to car hire companies now needs to view their licence information online and generate a check code so details can be shared with third parties.

But the AA has said a number of its members had problems with the website, which was reportedly down for a time on its first day.

The DVLA said car rental companies in the UK and abroad were well aware of the changes, but the AA had anticipated "widespread confusion".

A survey by money.co.uk

suggested as many as 79% of people could arrive at a hire office with incorrect documents.

Transport Minister Lord Ahmad said replacing the paper counterpart with an online service "will save motorists money and reduce unnecessary red tape".

"It will also benefit employers and vehicle hire companies," he said. "Relying on the counterpart meant relying on a potentially out-of-date piece of paper."

But the AA warned against tearing up the paper section of the driving licence just yet, saying those hiring vehicles overseas should hold on to their counterpart as a "belt and braces" measure.

The changes do not apply in Northern Ireland, where licences still require the plastic photocard and paper counterpart sections.

Depending on the degree of the problem, patients may experience pain in the buttocks, thigh, calf or foot. Other symptoms may include aching, burning or weakness. Sometimes, claudication can affect the arms too.

Although it may be considered a disease, claudication is actually a symptom of disease. Most often, claudication is a symptom of peripheral vasuclar disease (PVD), a potentially serious, but treatable problem of the circulation caused by atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis means that the arteries are clogged with clumps of fat, cholesterol and other material, known atherosclerotic plaques. These plaques

can make the arteries narrow, reducing blood flow. You feel pain because your leg muscles are not getting enough oxygenated blood. Oxygen is the fuel that muscles need to work.

This is the same process that leads to angina but the heart muscle is starved of oxygen leading to pain. For

this reason, claudication is sometimes referred to as angina of the legs. You are more likely to develop atherosclerosis if you:

• Smoke • Have high cholesterol • Have high blood pressure • Have high levels of homocysteine • Are obese (a body mass index over 30) • Are diabetic • Are over 70 years of age • Are over 50 years of age and you also smoke or have diabetes • Have a family history of atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease or claudication Claudication can be treated with medications to reduce cholesterol, improve blood supply and keep the blood thin. Sometimes an angioplasty will be performed and the artery widened using a balloon or a stent put in place. In other cases, the blocked artery is replaced with a healthy blood vessel taken from another part of the body.

If you experience pain in your legs you should seek medical advice to find out exactly what is causing it and to rule out deep vein thrombosis (DVT) which requires urgent treatment.

DOES YOUR DOG SUFFER WITH HIP DYSPLASIA?

The hip joint is composed of the ball and the socket. The development of hip dysplasia is determined by an interaction of genetic and environmental factors, though there is a complicated pattern of inheritance for this disorder, with multiple genes involved. Hip dysplasia is the failure of the hip joints to develop normally (known as malformation), gradually deterio-

rating and leading to loss of function of the hip joints. Hip dysplasia is one of the most common skeletal diseases seen in dogs. Gender does not seem to be a factor, but some breeds are more likely to have the genetic predisposition for hip dysplasia than other breeds. Large and giant breeds are most commonly affected, including the Great Dane, Saint Bernard, L a b r a d o r Retriever, and German Shepherd. Rarely, small breed dogs can also be affected, but are less likely to show clinical signs.

Hip dysplasia often begins while a dog is still young and physically immature. Early onset usually develops after four months of age. There are also cases of later onset, where hip dysplasia develops later due to osteoarthritis, a form of joint inflammation (arthritis) that is characterized by chronic deterioration, or degeneration of the joint cartilage. Symptoms and Types - Symptoms depend on the

As part of surveying the physical symptoms and fluid work-ups, your veterinarian will also need a thorough history of your dog's health, onset of symptoms, and any possible incidents or injuries that may have contributed to your dog's symptoms. Any information you have on your dog's parentage will be helpful as well, as there may be a genetic link.

Just call our English speaking volunteer Maria on 677 37 33 96 with any questions and offers of help.

Causes - Influences on the development and progression of hip dysplasia are concurrent with both genetic and environmental factors: • Genetic susceptibility for hip looseness or laxity • Rapid weight gain and obesity • Nutritional factors • Pelvic-muscle mass

Diagnosis - Your veterinarian will perform a complete physical exam on your dog, including a blood chemical profile, a complete blood count, an electrolyte panel and a urinalysis. Inflammation due to joint disease may be noted in the complete blood count.

degree of joint looseness or laxity, the degree of joint inflammation, and the duration of the disease. • Early disease: signs are related to joint looseness or laxity • Later disease: signs are related to joint degeneration and osteoarthritis • Decreased activity • Difficulty rising • Reluctance to run, jump, or climb stairs • Intermittent or persistent hind-limb lameness, often worse after exercise “Bunny-hopping,” or swaying gait • Narrow stance in the hind limbs (back legs unnaturally close together) • Pain in hip joints • Joint looseness or laxity – characteristic of early disease; may not be seen in long-term hip dysplasia due to arthritic changes in the hip joint • Grating detected with joint movement • Decreased range of motion in the hip joints • Loss of muscle mass in thigh muscles • Enlargement of shoulder muscles due to more weight being exerted on front legs as dog tries to avoid weight on its hips, leading to extra work for the shoulder muscles and subsequent enlargement of these muscles

X-rays are crucial for visualizing the signs of hip dysplasia. Some of the possible findings may be degenerative disease of the spinal cord, lumbar vertebral instability, bilateral stifle disease and other bone diseases.

Maria Victoria Gorena - Sirenas Spain School and Events

Maria Victoria Gorena, the creator and owner of Sirenas Spain School & Events.

M e r m a i d Photoshoot

She is a Professor of Physical Education from Argentina and since 8 years of age, she specialised in synchronized swimming, water polo and swimming lessons. “I had been teaching swimming for more than 10 years to adults and kids. For the last year, I stopped teaching synchronized swimming because I was really stressed doing so many things at the same time.” Last February, my mother asked me why I stopped something that I love so much, that made me happy, and she told me a story about a lady in Germany that created mermaids. In that moment I realised that this was perfect for me. I contacted this lady in Germany and another mermaid in America who helped me to start up this idea. For the last two years I organised two synchronized swimming shows for Aqua Natura, Benidorm. So after that experience, I thought that Aqua Natura was the right place to do it!

This is for clients that really fancy being a Mermaid or Mermen but they are not good swimmers, or little girls that can’t swim yet. We Maria Victoria Gorena don’t leave them out! You can be a Mermaid for a while in a photoshoot session, where you will receive special make-up, hairstyle, accessories and the best pictures with your tail on! And it’s super fun!

We not only teach ”mermaiding”, we created a complete mermaid style with makeup, hairstyle, tattoos, etc, all as a real mermaid.

Mermaids Show

Aqua Natura gave me the opportunity to start with this great idea straight away because they knew that it would work, and from this, I created my own style of mermaid school that is unique in all of Spain.

What do we do?

We have 3 focuses:

responce - so good! They absolutely love it ! First they have so much fun, and from the beginning when we do the make up, the women feel pretty and more feminine, and that makes me feel so good!

Then, inside the water, they have fun, taking pictures under the water, playing with the tail, and if you are a

good swimmer, I highly recommend this cause you can do amazing things with the tail! Like a real Mermaid or Mermen.

Family

We’ve been having many families that want a Mermaid photo, just for the experience.

Mums with their kids, best friends, that want to share this experience, also stag parties, etc.

We are the only ones in Spain that do a show. Our Mermaids are professional synchronized swimmers and they are really Mermaids when they put on the tail! We are getting ready for June to start our new show in different hotels around the area. You can’t miss it!

We also offers birthday parties, Mermaids and Mermen parties and Mermaid shows.

We have been there since Aqua Natura opened on 15th May and since we started there, the people love it! I never thought that so many people would dream to be a Mermaid. Incredible! Its their dream for all of their life and they thank me for making it real. So in Sirenas Spain, we make dreams come true!

For more information, contact:

Facebook: Sirenas Spain School & Events. email: sirenasspains@gmail.com Website: (we are working on that, not ready yet) Contact number: 648134498- Vicky.

We are in Aqua Natura, Benidorm everyday during waterpark opening hours.

You can buy the tickets inside the park or in https://terranatura.experticket.com/

For bookings: You can call me for bookings and save your place, but to buy tickets, this has to be in the park or website.

Mermaid school

1. We created our own Mermaids, hairstyle with shell, star fish, pearls, crowns, etc. All the accessories are made by us. You can have a lovely Mermaid style. For Mermen we have tattoos.

2. Waterproof makeup that match with the color of the tail. (We have 5 differents colors) 3. Photo session as a Mermaid or Mermen

4. We teach you how to swim with the tail and you can live the experience to be a real Mermaid. At the swimming lesson, we teach how to breath properly, swimming in different positions, choreographies and underwater pictures!. We mix our knowledge of synchronized swimming and diving. And this summer we are planning a Mermaid camp for those who wants to learn more about Mermaiding and became a really mermaid.

Follow us in facebook for our events for this summer!

Children

They love make up and tattoos and having fun with the tail. We also improve their swimming skills and for those who are not good swimmers, we help them to do it better. Some kids said they are practicing to improve swimming so they can come to swim with the tail! SO cute!

Sporting Alfas Cricket Club 2nd Team Match Report

The Alfas 2nds met not so bright but very very early to make the trip down to Almanzora for their next league match looking for the win that would keep them top of the table and keep pressure on the opposition teams. With 4 of the team travelling down the night before, some at least would be well rested going into the game.

Arriving at Almanzora, we were all impressed with the pitch, lovely flat grass and a well fitted mat. With Almanzora winning the toss but only having 6 players at the start, their decision was made for them to bat and Alfas took the field but early inroads did not come as hoped. Both openers for Almanzora stood fast in the face of the opening spell and took the score past 30 before the change of bowlers started to work for Alfas.

Waqer got Winter to pop one back to him for a C&B to get the ball rolling. Second change bowler Dell then got new man Stanard to edge behind, Byrne taking it down the leg side. However, Murbasha, after surviving a strong LBW shout, got swinging and with Larkins at the other end put on another 30 before Larkins, trying to direct one with a slight dab through the slips could only end up

playing on off Dell. Shoiab joined Murbasha in the middle and took a liking to the bowling, while Murbasha fell to the next change, young laundon keeping the ball straight and Murbasha picking out Bash Ali in the Covers.

This is when the game went a bit Mental...As Samran came out to bat, Shioab having come late to the game, did not know that clearing the fence was a dot ball and not a 6 as he believed. He did however manage to pick out Byrne's car in the parking lot to lessen his frustration! At the other end, Samran was enjoying the benefits of Alfas long trip getting dropped 3 times in two overs before a catch was finally held. As the umpire raised his finger and Samran trudged off, Skipper Perman who took the catch showed Alfas play hard but fair and called Samran back, admitting that he touched the fence converting the catch to a 6 and giving Samran another life! However, after some entertaining fireworks, Laundon had had enough and got Samran to edge behind where he was held and the tail began to enter the fray. Howells hit a couple of quick 4's before edging behind for Byrne's 3rd catch of the day. Campy was stumped off Perman for 0 and when

last man, actually nÂş 9 for Almanzora chipped one to K. Perman off J. Perman for 0, Almanzora were all out for 141, including 25 wides!

Following a 30 minute break, Nix and McKinnstry strode out to the middle for Alfas to start the chase. Nix fell early to Murbasha for 8, clipping to Gully, K. Perman came in and played some nice shots for his 18 before he got castled by a straight one after 3 wides. McKinnstry and Waqer put on 68 for the 3rd wicket before McKinnstry got bowled by a full toss, bringing Byrne hobbling to the wicket a result of the keeper trying to trap a Dell full toss in the first innings instead of using the gloves. However, it was all Alfas needed and between Waqer and Byrne, they hit the remaining 40 needed to see the game out, Byrne nearly winning the game with a 6 but the ball was adjudged to have cleared the fence rather than, as Waqer repeatedly stated, going through it but two balls later Byrne hit a 4 to close off the match and send Alfas home with full points from the long trip

ances. Up front Manchester City's ace Marksman Sergio Aguero(203pts) held of the challenge of Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez(186pts) to be crowned top Fantasy League Player while West Brom's Saido Berahino(184pts) and Spurs Harry Kane(171pts) both proved to be incredible value for Money. Unfortunately only 4 Fantasy Managers had the nous to select them. Top Golden Boot Player was the Golden Boot Winner Sergio Aguero who finished up with 130 points 30 ahead of 3 Players Costa,Austin and Sanchez. Thanks once again for playing the 21st A.F.F.L. and we hope to be back in early July with a brand new Season so keep an eye on this Newspaper for all the details.

Busy Week In At Javea Bowls

What a week at Javea Bowls Club. On Monday Javea played Benitachell in the annual match for the Jubilee Trophy and Javea were able to retain the trophy with a sixteen points to twelve points victory.

This Competition has been going since 2002 and both Clubs have now won on seven occasions, so next year will have extra spice attached to it! Then on Saturday two of our t e a m s entered the inaugural Bonalba Triples competition with Gail Chick and Greg Sperring coming third, just being pipped on shot difference for second place by Alan Phillips, Pat and John Pittaway. Congratulations to Bonalba on a super tournament.

To cap the week off a Horse Race Meeting was held on the Green, with 70 people enjoying the fun. Six wooden horses on wheels with jockeys, are attached individually to a piece of string that has to be rolled in on a dowel over a course of 15 metres. Each race has six horses and the person doing it the quickest, wins the race. The best performing "jockey" was Roy Webb who won the final race which was the "Javea Gold Cup".

Canapes and a BBQ followed by strawberries and cream were enjoyed in the enclosure, it was great fun! Thanks to the team of organisers for their efforts. Our photo, attached, shows the horses and jockeys on the start line.

England Smash Kiwis 46

Jos Buttler and Joe Root’s rapid centuries helped smash England into the record books and to a 210run victory over New Zealand in the first ODI at Edgbaston, although Andrew Strauss was hailed as Englands saviour.

Strauss was, of course, appointed as England’s Director of Cricket last month and his introduction into the fold was pinpointed by many to be the reason for recent success. Buttler (129) and Root (104) smashed the second

and fourthfastest tons b y Englishmen in ODI cricket – 66 balls and 71 balls respectively – as the hosts clubbed their way to their highest oneday total of 408-9 after being put into bat by New Zealand.

Steve Finn (4-35) and Adil Rashid (4-55) then snared four wickets each – the former nabbing the prized scalp of Brendon

McCullum (10) – as England dismissed the Black Caps for 198 in 31.1 overs to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Rose Edged Out By Lingmerth David Lingmerth claimed his first PGA Tour title on Sunday after he triumphed over Justin Rose in a sudden death playoff to win The Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. Lingmerth carded a final round three-under 69 to finish on 15-under for the tournament, before edging Rose at the third playoff hole.

The Swede had held the second round lead before slipping off the pace on Saturday as Rose carved out a three-shot third round lead. But he surged back into contention on Sunday, and had a chance to potentially avoid a playoff, but failed to sink a nine-foot birdie putt on the last. Rose meanwhile would have considered himself

fortunate to be able to set up a playoff after a testing round of 72 culminated in his approach shot at the 18th hitting a fan on the head. However, the Englishman, who won at Muirfield Village in 2010, ensured he would remain in contention by producing an unbelievable recovery with a wedge which rolled just two feet wide of the cup and allowed him to save par.

The pair headed to the 18th for the opening play-

off hole where Rose sunk a 20-foot putt for par, a score that was matched by Lingmerth.

The players returned to the 18th once more for the second playoff hole, and again it was pars all round as the duo could not be separated. However, Lingmerth would eventually seal the victory on the third playoff hole, with his four-foot putt for par enough after Rose had bogeyed the hole after missing a 22-foot par putt.

Roof for Roland Garros

Roland Garros, the iconic home of the French Open, is to undergo a major controversial extension costing up to 400 million euros, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced on Tuesday.

"Today, the construction permits to extend Roland Garros were signed," Hidalgo told French news channel BFMTV.

The green light for the work was expected after French Prime minister Manuel Valls gave his backing to the project last week.

The work will see Roland Garros expand from 8.5 to 12.5 hectares, with the conversion of a hectare of botanical gardens, a move that has stirred up protests from conservationists who pledge to appeal the decision in the courts.

He eventually clocked 54.526km in the hour - demolishing the previous record of 52.937km set by fellow Briton Alex Dowsett last month.

The 34-year-old had enough strength to raise his bike above his head in celebration.

UCI confirms Wiggins'

Bike Was Legal,

WICKED WIGGINS

Sir Bradley Wiggins has set a new world record for distance covered in one hour described as cycling's "Holy Grail".

June 10th – June 16th 2015

The event, which was screened live on Sky Sports, sold out in just seven minutes. A raucous crowd cheered on their man throughout the hour - but Wiggins admitted afterwards he could not hear them.

"It's so difficult to block the noise out," he said. "They put a playlist of music together that I had to okay and I couldn't hear anything.

"I thank everyone for coming and putting their hands in their pocket." Ahead of the bid, Sir Bradley described the record as a "Holy Grail for cyclists" .

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has confirmed that the bike Sir Bradley Wiggins used to break the UCI Hour Record on Sunday was legal, quashing claims from the coach of former record-holder Alex Dowsett that it did not meet regulations.

Steve Collins, who coached Dowsett to the previous record of 52.937km, said the handlebar did not meet the criteria for permitted equipment in record attempts.

He told the BBC: “One of the sad bits about it was that Bradley's

bike wasn't in production. For attempts like that it should all be production available so you can buy it off the shelf. You can't get 3D-printed handlebars moulded to your own arms to make it easier for your own attempt.”

However, in a statement on Tuesday, the UCI, which officiates over the hour record, confirmed: “Bradley Wiggins’ bike and equipment were thoroughly assessed by UCI officials before and after the UCI Hour Record attempt and were judged to be fully compliant with UCI Regulations.”
