energy reform would settle a debt of 26bn euros (£22bn; $35bn), which has built up over years as a result of regulating energy costs and prices.

Experts said the new tax would extend the average time it would take for solar panels to pay for themselves from eight to 25 years, according to the solar lobby.

In the revised legeslation it also proposes a reduction in the paperwork required for the installation of a solar power system.

Large companies that still wish to produce their own electricity and become self sufficient will actually have to pay the new standing charge as well as the “Sunlight Tax”

Hottest July Since Records Began

by MICHELLE SIMON

July was the hottest month in Spain since records began, claims the meteorology director of the website eltiempo.es, José Antonio Maldonado, who has been the nation's most respected weatherman since the 1980s.

All the average temperatures were above what was considered 'normal' (the average over the period between 1981 and 2010) and the same thing happened with the average maximum temperatures in every provincial capital, except Pontevedra and Santander, which were slightly below this definition of 'normal'.

“Everyone thought the month of July was exceptionally hot because there was not one day when the high temperatures were not in the headlines all over Spain and, without having to consult the data, we knew that the temperatures were above continually normal across the immense majority of areas.

The heat wave started on June 26th and stayed for practically the whole next month, although there was the

Self Sufficient Business Would Be Charged Twice

odd interval of a few days in which the temperatures dropped slightly and this is why we speak of different heat waves although, really it is debatable whether there was not just one.

But whether there was one or several, the fact is that it was the hottest July based on data going back to 1920, with an average temperature in Spain of 26.5ºC, which exceeds the 26.2ºC in August 2003, when the heatwave started on July 30th and

finished on August 14th, which does not mean that the high temperatures did not continue for the following weeks.

In this latest episode the average temperatures that stand out were Seville with 28.2ºC, Córdoba with 28ºC, Jaén with 27.6ºC and Murcia with 27.2ºC. The hottest daytimes were in Córdoba with an average maximum temperature of 40.3ºC, Seville with 38.9ºC and Granada with 39.6ºC.”

BLA BLA CAR - BUSES TAKE LEGAL ACTION 4

NEWS

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

Spanish bus drivers are taking legal action against BlaBlaCar, the nation's most popular car-pooling site, over claims of unfair competition.

Confebus (An association of Spanish bus operators) announced they are taking BlaBlaCar, to court, arguing it provides "unfair competition" when it comes to transport in Spain.

The French-based car-pooling company has seen its popularity soar in Spain since it was founded five years ago and finds Spain its biggest market place after France.

BlaBlaCar will appear in court in Madrid on October 1st which happens to be the same court that banned Uber from operating in Spain in December 2014. They better do their home work though or they will face the same fate as Uber, who is currently facing legal battles from taxi unions across Europe. BlaBlaCar is a platform for drivers to offer car shares while Uber offers what is more like a taxi service. Drivers publish the journey they are about to take and how many

free seats are in their car, while people interested in making the same journey ask to take one of the seats, with all the travellers then sharing the cost of the journey. Passengers pay in advance via the online platform, with BlaBlaCar taking a 10 percent commission plus VAT from each journey.

BlaBlaCar has so far managed to avoid many of the regulatory issues that have plagued Uber because it ensures that, while drivers share the costs of the journey with their passengers, they do not make a profit.

However, Confebus begs to differ, alleging that many BlaBlaCar drivers are making journeys solely to make money from taking passengers from point A to B as well as not carrying a license that is necessary in Spain to transport passengers:

"Of course it's unfair competition," Confebus co-president Rafael Barbadillo told Spanish daily El Mundo. "They act as intermediaries, propose prices and receive a commission. The rules should be for everyone. We are either all in or all out," he said.

CHICKENPOX VACCINATION ADDED TO IMMUNISATIONS CALENDER

Health authorities in Valencia have agreed to include the chickenpox vaccine on the vaccination calendar for children.

The cost of vaccination will mean an expenditure of around â‚Ź6 million, with children receiving a first dose of the vaccine

aged between 12 and 15 months and a second aged three and four years.

Doctors have called for the immunisation to be included, as there is a high infection rate amonst children.

BULLFIGHTING SPARKS OUTRAGE August 14th - August 28th 2015

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

Bullfighting has become under increased scrutiny year after year with each protest gathering more and more followers.

Recently in a local English newspaper there was an article published which was promoting a bullfight with one of Spains most famous Matadors. This article came under attack with the majority of the expat community against this “tradition” because of its positive angle towards the promotion of the event and also the placement of the article in the paper which found itself next to two different adverts of organizations that look after the welfare of animals, PEPA Animal Charity and Paes animal welfare conference.

The article also boasted a reduced rate for children, which has been condemned as it can influence people into thinking that this so called sport is a family friendly event.

Bullrings are largely sustained by tourists who visit out of curiosity and a misguided belief that if they fail to visit this unique part of Spanish culture, their visit to Spain will not be complete.

The vast majority of tourists are appalled by what happens at a bullfight and leave after they see what happens to the first bull (three separate bulls are killed at bullfights, but spectators are not allowed to leave until the first one has ended).

However, the purchase of their ticket keeps the bullrings open.

Bull Ring Protest

"Torture is not culture," "Bullfighting abolition are just two of the slogans

vistacostablanca.com

that appeared on banners at a protest of over 200 people before the bull fighting event in Benidorm .

Protests need permission to go ahead in Spain because of the “GAG LAW”, which is in place to limit protests by laying out strict guidelines on when and where they can take place and penalising offenders with steep fines. In this case the protesters, had permission from the central government representatives.

Protestors believe they made a difference as only 1,800 people attended from a total possible capacity of 10,000.

August 14th - August 28th 2015

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

A team of Spanish experts have flown to the French island of Corsica to retrieve a masterpiece by Pablo Picasso that was smuggled out of Spain, where it is considered a national treasure.

A spokesman for Spain’s Civil Guard said four police experts in national heritage and several culture ministry officials flew to recover the painting, Head of a Young Woman, which is valued at ₏25m. The officer said they expect to return with the painting later on Tuesday.

The work is owned by Jaime BotĂn, whose family was involved in setting up the Santander banking group. â‚Ź25m Picasso and superyacht collide with Spanish export ban Read more The national court ruled in May that the painting could not be taken out of Spain, backing an earlier decision by the culture ministry. The ruling is under appeal before the supreme court.

On arrival, the painting is to be taken to Madrid’s Reina Sofia Museum, officials said. Corsican authorities said in a statement on 4 August that they had been tipped off about an attempted smuggling of the prized painting to Switzerland.

They said the oil painting, which comes from the Cubist master’s “pink period and features a woman with long black hair, was seized on 31 July when the captain was unable to produce a certificate.

On the boat, authorities say, a document was found in Spanish confirming that the work was of cultural interest and was banned from leaving

Mobiity Scooter Clampdown by MICHELLE SIMON

Ever since we can remember or was it since Madge...Mobility Scooters have been all the rage in Benidorm and that’s not because of the amount of people that actually need them!

Stag and Hen Dos as well as individuals spoiled it for everyone with their caress antics, may it be speeding down the promenade at high speeds, driving on two wheels or performing a wheelie, it led to the regulation of Mobility Scooters last year.

The rules introduced stopped any-

one renting a Mobility Scooter if they were under the age of 55 unless they had a medical condition, up until now the rules have not really been enforced until now, where the machines are being locked up by police and fines are being dished out left and right.

Last week over 25 fines were handed out, sparked after a street cleaner was hit by one, the cleaner went to the local hospital and luckily only suffered some heavy bruises. According to Spanish press, since the 15th July 47 scooter fines have been issued There are plenty of videos on YOUTUBE showing ridiculous behaviour.

BANG Out of Order

The owner of a villa in Javea, celebrating a birthday, and the head of an enterprise of pyrotechnics have both been reported by the local police for having a firework display just 30 meters from a forest area. According to a statement from the council, the municipal police have opened investigations to the homeowner in the La Cala del Cap de La Nao area and the businessman of a pyrotechnic company.

On the night of August 6th they set off the display near the forest area, ignoring the serious risk of fire.

A call received by the police at 11.26pm reported that powerful fireworks were being let off close to a forest area and although the patrol arrived after the show had finished, investigations continued the next day to find the source.

After knocking on doors in the neighbourhood it soon became clear where teh fireworks had been set off.

The Department of Public Safety have warned there would be "zero tolerance" for such behavior threatening the natural heritage and recalled that public awareness is vital to avoid the risk of fire in a dry, hot summer.

You May Well Chortle - Javea Players

Spend an evening with Lewis Carroll at the Javea players' Studio Theatre and you may well find yourself chortling.

Carroll, brilliantly portrayed by Kevin Moore in the one-man show, 'Crocodiles in Cream', is totally captivating, from time to time moving and often hilarious. And, after all, he did invent the word.

Lewis Carroll was the pen name Charles Dodgson used for his children's books; he used his real name for his mathematical books of which there were several. Charles excelled at mathematics and topped the list of those receiving First Class honours at Oxford university. In October 1855 Dodgson returned to Oxford as a Mathematics Lecturer and remained at Christ Church lecturing and writing on mathematics until 1881. Among his hobbies was photography and his greatest pleasure was photographing chil-

dren at which he excelled. He greatly enjoyed the company of children and loved making up stories for their enjoyment. Alice Liddell was one of the children he so entertained and she persuaded him to write some of his stories down. By chance the author Henry Kingsley during a visit to the Liddells picked up these stories and with some considerable effort persuaded Dodgson to publish them. And so, one hundred and fifty years ago, in 1865, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' was first published.

Charles Dodgson was good at charades, he sang, he told stories. Jokes, puzzles, games, questions-and-answers, tricks with numbers and words became for him a means of everyday amusement and for his family and friends a source of fun and diversion. He was, of course, a master of nonsense and his 'The Hunting of the Snark' is the longest and most sustained

nonsense poem in the English language. Spending an evening with with such a man is bound to be hugely entertaining.

Property Prices In Popular Parts Of Spain Due To Demand 26

PROPERTY

Enquiries from international buyers for property in Spain have reached record breaking levels at a time when prices are still falling but demand could push up values in popular areas. Spanish property portal Kyero, which lists more than 200,000 homes from 3,000 estate agents, said it has had its busiest ever quarter and properties prices from €50,000 to €100,000 are proving most popular.

The firm’s latest quarterly report shows that 28% of all enquiries were for properties at €100,000 or less and they are also proving popular with domestic buyers.

The report also suggests that prices could start rising because of the demand. Valuations company Tinsa has released data which shows that a total of 35 popular locations have seen price rises between the first quarter of 2014 and the same period in 2015.

The previous year saw just four of those areas register price increases. The upward movement indicates that those seeking properties in the €50,000 to €100,000 range might soon have to up their budget in order to get what they are looking for.

The Kyero research confirms that Spain's coastal areas are some of its most popular with second home buyers looking for a holiday home with easy access to beaches. Alicante, home of the Costa Blanca, is the most popular province, according to the Kyero report with 31% of all enquiries focusing on that region. Malaga was the second most popular area, accounting for 15% of total enquiries.

August 14th - August 28th 2015

‘Spain's beaches offer some fantastic, family friendly holidays and many of those buying here want to own a property within a short walk or drive of at least one beach. Apartments are by far the most popular choice, accounting for 39% of all enquiries during the last quarter, 10% ahead of villa enquiries,’ said Kyero founder Martin Dell.

‘Many families like the idea of owning an apartment that comes with a shared swimming pool that the condominium company maintains. It's less hassle and expense than owning a villa with its own pool,’ he added. The Kyero report also reveals that it is three bedroom properties that command the most interest, with 32% of all enquirers looking for properties of that size. Two bedroom properties came a close second, with 30% of total enquiries.

Meanwhile, the Tinsa data shows that overall the average price of new and used homes declined by 1.1% in the first half of 2015 compared to the same period of 2014 but the Mediterranean Coast and Islands standing have performed better. Prices in the Balearic and Canary Islands increased

by 4.4% in the first six months of the year, while prices on the Mediterranean Coast increased by 1.8% in the same period. The biggest falls in prices have been seen in cities with declines of up to 3.7%.

Since the peak of the market in 2007 average property prices have fallen by 41.8%. The Mediterranean Coast is the area where values have been adjusted most, with an accumulated decline of 48.6%, followed by the capitals and large cities and the metropolitan areas with accumulated falls of 45.7% and 45.1%, respectively.

New Crowdfunding Website Created For Property Investment In Spain 28

PROPERTY SERVICES

vistacostablanca.com

August 14th - August 28th 2015

THANKS to a new crowdfunding website, anyone with â‚Ź500 euros in their wallet can become a property tycoon.

Housers.es, created by two Madrid entrepreneurs Antonio Brusola and Alvaro Luna, allows anyone to invest a minimum of â‚Ź500 in a share of a home, building or renovation project.

Every investor receives a monthly return proportional to their investment, as well as a bonus commission on a sold apartment. The business encourages customers to

invest small quantities in multiple livings through their system, which reduces the risk of the investment.

The founders state that their website serves a dual purpose, to allow people who would not traditionally invest in property a stake in the market and to allow promoters of properties to not rely exclusively on banks for funding.

COUNTRY RIBS A PERFECT BEACH FRONT LOCATION

Our team visit to Country Ribs in Albir last weekend not only resulted in a delicious meal, but was an ideal opportunity to soak up the sun. The day offered uninterrupted sunshine in a idealic location, with stunning views out to the beach front and across to Calpe and the Rock of Ifach. Country Ribs is a perfect place for the whole family and is very popular with children, as the American Diner food is just the taste that most kids enjoy... ribs, burgers, pizza and even meals designed specifically for the little ones with a choice of meal deals that include a drink and desert.

The menu choice offers something for everyone and some of the most popular dishes that we noticed are the ranch style chicken and the juicy steaks. The plates are huge so be sure you visit with a healthy appetite. The menu has so much to offer plus a selection of specialities with six exciting COMBO style sharing options. The variety is really amazing.

My choice was the COUNTRY RHAPSODY, this caught my eye as it included Hungarian Goulash together with a mixture of Chicken, Lamb, Spare Ribs and Pork Kebabs. The serving was huge and filled with sides of potato wedges and chips. I can honestly say the amount of food in the COMBO was enough for 3 or 4 people.

Being meat lovers this combo was perfect. Lamb chops cooked over the BBQ, together with chicken breast, spare ribs and kebabs, plus the Hungarian Goulash strategically positioned in the centre of the display.

The team ordered a variety of other popular meals, grilled chicken, cheese and bacon burger and the star of the show was the full rack of baby back ribs with a choice of 4 tasty sauces. The size of the rack of ribs amazed me, it took over the plate. The meat was falling off the bone and was complemented with a tangy Jack Daniels & Coke sticky BBQ sauce, a smokey but sweet flavour.

Our bench style table had plenty of space to sit our group of five adults plus the high chair attached at the end.

The restaurant was taken over by families so it was great to see that there was no shortage of high chairs and the mums and dads could enjoy their meals, while the smaller ones were also taking part at the table.

Country Ribs is situated in Albir directly on the beach front and also in Benidorm opposite the Riviera Hotel. The restaurant chain has been impressing clients with the quality of their cuisine for many years and has built up a reputation as being the best American diner in the area. Your energy levels are as high as your charm, so now would be a good time to ask for a favour or a helping hand from someone you know and trust. Got a holiday planned? A change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered, so try to get away. LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

You’ve decided to take life in you stride, so the first thing you need to do is to get out of the stuffy house and into the fresh air. Once you blow away the cobwebs you’ll feel you can achieve anything, and with the right mental attitude, you can. SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

You’re so focused when it comes to getting things done, so professionally you’ll get situations moving in a very positive way. Get minor tedious jobs out of the way first, and it’ll leave you free to take your time with the bigger, more important issues. SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

When you’re on a roll like this, you like to keep going until you reach a conclusion to your project. Others however don’t see it like that, so they’ll urge you to rest up. You feel if you stop now you’ll lose your momentum. Try to find a happy compromise. CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

You have a complex nature which at times is even hard for you to understand, so how can you expect others to take on board what you maybe cannot. It’s a slow week where you’ll struggle to achieve your objectives. Tomorrow is another day. AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

Your energy is slowly but surely returning, so direct it into whatever you fancy. Your mind is sharp and you’re now coming to terms with issues that confused you in the past. The future has not yet been written so take the pen and make a mark. PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

It’s a new week and a new you. You embark on new projects with confidence and the desire to succeed, but not everyone shares your optimism for the future, so you’ll have to watch your back. Keep your ego under control at the weekend.

Ford S-MAX 2015 - Review T h e L a t e s t B U Z Z f r o m t h e M o t o r i n g Wo r l d

Continuing Ford's recent theme of unveiling its next generation products in concept form years before they hit the showrooms, the 2015 S-MAX has been unveiled before it takes centre stage at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It previews a more exciting-looking car, along with classleading technology, to replace the current S-MAX, which has proved so successful for its maker since its launch in 2006.

The styling, which has been overseen by Design Director, Martin Smith, continues themes laid-out with the original S-MAX, but with considerable evolution, including a dramatic front end that takes the swept-back headlamps and Aston Martin-style grille of the recently facelifted Fiesta, and extends them back even further.

Power units will include the new turbocharged petrol 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Ecoboost engine, which is an extension of the family of engines that started with the innovative 1.0-litre three-cylinder. Ecoboost production is in Bridgend, Wales. It's unconfirmed whether the smaller three-cylinder will also make it

chasing buyers of premiumbadged models, it's clear that's what the company hopes to achieve with the next generation S-MAX.

into the S-MAX range to complement the existing range of turbodiesels.

Inside, the concept is an equally stylish affair, which according to Ford, is tailored to existing S-MAX's buyers needs. And that means it's a luxury item, with some very interesting technological advances, reflecting the fact that 70 per cent of SMAX buyers buy the Titanium X-spec

model, and then option it further.

The adaptable interior continues to seat up to seven people, but in concept form, it's finshed in high-quality soft-touch materials including hand-finished suede- and leather-finished interior surfaces. There are also a number of carbonfibre inserts in the tastefully coloured interior - and although Ford won't directly speak about

The package of tech features will be extended from the current model, and will include much more of Ford's Sync technology. Primary to this will be the connectivity setup, which will allow occupants' smartphones and tablet devices, as well as laptops, to connect to the car by means of its wirelss hotspot. There will also be tablet and 'phone docking stations, and an extended package of smartphone-enabled apps (such as Google maps and Spotify), which will work seamlessly with the car's entertainment and navigations systems.

More intriguingly, the next-generation SMAX will also feature a number of healthmonitoring systems. Driver's heart rate and blood levels can be monitored by the car's seat-mounted sensors - and if any serious irregularities are detected, Ford's Sync system can alert the medical authorities - and in extreme emergencies it triggers active safety systems to bring the car to a safe stop.

Remove excess energy If you’ve ever tried to communicate with a hyper toddler, then you know how excited energy can be distracting. It’s no different with dogs. When your pup is raring to go, his only focus is on releasing all that pent-up energy inside, and he’s going to have a hard time listening to you. So remember to practice first exercise, then discipline, and then affection. A daily walk that truly drains all of your

Go back to basics Does your dog truly know the command? It can take hundreds or even thousands of repetitions for some dogs to learn a new skill. Practice makes perfect. You may need to focus on training again to ensure your dog really has it down.

dog’s energy will go a long way.

Be consistent If your dog is receiving different messages about his behavior, he won’t understand what you want from him. That’s also true if individual family members enforce different rules. Sit down as a family and discuss the rules, boundaries, and limitations you want to set for your dog. It can be helpful to write them down and display them somewhere prominent.

Master your energy Dogs listen to their pack leaders, and you can only be that leader if you are displaying calm-assertive energy. If you’re frantic or uncertain as you give a command, your dog will tune you out. Unfortunately, many of us aren’t really aware of the energy we are giving off. Have a friend

Stop relying on verbal commands Dogs don’t speak to one another; they use energy and body language to communicate. So it’s not surprising that they sometimes have trouble picking up on our verbal commands, particularly when they are bombarded by our constant yammering all day.

Even if they know a command, they may actually associate it more with a non-verbal cue you give at the same time — something you may not even realize you’re doing. 0$ (0 1$/+(, 2("(#$ (0what *0- may +-/$have "-++-, (, If your 1'$ dog#(0$ is listening to you,* consider +$, 0 1'$6 /$ +2"'presence. *$00 *()$*6 Are 1- "-,02*1 -"1-/ changed about your physical you holding a 4'$, 1'$6 /$ %$$*(,& #$./$00$# baby? Goodbye Soldado? Van Gerwen wins Matchplay title Michael van Gerwen claimed his first World Matchplay title after a convincing victory over James Wade in the final.

Erik Lamela tweets goodbye to Tottenham teammate Roberto Soldado and then deletes it

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado appears to be imminently leaving the club following a goodbye message from team-mate Erik Lamela.

Soldado, 30, has endured a torrid time since moving to White Hart Lane in 2013 and Sky sources reported

earlier this summer that he was one of several players the club had put up for sale.

The Dutchman bolstered his reputation as the world's best player with a dominant performance against Wade, firing in a string of blistering finishes on the way to an 18-12 win

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino recently insisted that the Spain international was still in his plans, but Soldado has also been pictured on social media at Gatwick airport on Thursday and reports in Spain believe he is set to join Villarreal.

England centre Henry Slade: Nerves will help me

Henry Slade believes his nervousness about playing for England will be a benefit when he runs out against France on Saturday night. The Exeter man will start alongside Sam Burgess in the centres for the final warm-up match before the

World Cup squad is finalised.

The game is likely to be an intense affair with so much at stake, and the side’s captain for the day, Northampton back row Tom Wood, has stated it will be treated like a “full-blooded Test match”.

Just 12 months ago, Van Gerwen had departed the stage in tears following a painful final defeat by Phil Taylor, but with his conqueror absent after a semifinal exit, Van Gerwen took out his angst on Wade at the Winter Gardens.

MORE MOURINHO MADNESS After only one weekend of the English Premier League season, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is in familiar territory: Embroiled in an irrational dispute and his conduct being denounced.

The unexpected target of Mourinho’s ire is the club doctor whose eagerness to race onto the field to treat an apparently injured Chelsea player incensed Mourinho.

Although Mourinho’s spats with referees and media outlets are commonplace, he is now being condemned by medical professionals for the “unjust” axing of Dr. Eva Carneiro from her matchday role on the Chelsea bench and giving the impression of not prioritizing players’ welfare.

The Premier League Doctors Group issued a strong defence on behalf of

Carneiro on Wednesday, saying the medics were clearly summoned by the referees to attend to Hazard.

Refusing to go onto the field would have breached the doctor’s duty to a patient, said Mark Gillett, the group’s chairman who is West Bromwich Albion’s performance director.
