Dear Readers Rain rain, go away, come again another day! I’ve actually forgotten how many days it has been without seeing a grey cloud or two which is very different than the usual blue skies we are used to here on the Costa Blanca! As we are all so used to living the outdoor life in the Spanish sunshine, the rain does put a slight dampener on life however I can’t moan too much; the cooler weather has been welcome after one of the hottest and most humid summers on record. The month of September is now in full swing and the sunshine will be back with us before too long as the forecast for the next weekend is wall-to-wall sunshine. So the short lived use of a blanket during the cooler nights will probably be put on hold for at least another few weeks yet. In other news, I am so looking forward to next week when Vicky joins the team at Heat FM. We also really didn’t appreciate how many people were missing the Max Factor show on the radio, the afternoons this summer have actually gone on too long without him. It’s great to see so many messages welcoming him back and participating in his daily fun and games. Every message of support is extremely encouraging to both the producers and myself at Heat FM Spain. The next big Heat FM event raising money for EMAUS charity is taking place on Sunday 20th September at the International Charities Fair at El Cisne on the N332 to Benidorm. Also we’ll be at Monroes in Pedreguer on Saturday 26th of September for a end of Summer BBQ from 6pm. Tune in Heat FM Spain on 106.8 from Calpe to Javea & 90.3 from Altea to Benidorm or listen live via our website www.heatfmspain.es. Please don’t forget that if you are involved in any organisation or charity and you want some free publicity, get in touch! If you can tell us about any local special occasions, charity fundraising events or if there are any end of summer BBQ’s going on please tell us about it! Email buzz@vistacostablanca.com

Happy reading and have a fantastic week.

Benidorm Pride 2015

by CRIS WEST

Both Benidorm old and new town is being tickled pink with the 5th annual gay pride hosted from 7th to 13th of September. This massive event sees the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) communitites and their allies travelling from all over the world to visit Benidorm’s popular gay scene. With more events than you can shake a rainbow flag at, this year promises to be the most outrageous yet! Benidorm council and various organisations have been working all year to bring a full schedule of day and night events for the whole week, to ensure there is always something keep you entertained. The festivities kicked off on Monday with a Gay T Dance on Levante beach, seeing locals and tourists getting to grips with Benidorm’s maze of old town bars and everything they have to offer. Each and every gay friendly venue is working together to pull out all the stops and hosting acts that cater to every taste. It is estimated that the ‘pink pound’ (money spent by the LGBT community) brings tens of thousands of euros into the Benidorm tourism industry each year and this year promises to be very different from the previous pride events. Benidorm pride has unfortunately got a checkered past with last minute event changes and cancelled events leaving people disappointed however the council has built learnt from these mistakes and is back, bigger than ever. Rather than staying in one area like previous years, 2015 sees events happening all over the Benidorm to help spread the tourism around and in even includes a ‘LGTBenidorm

Tourism day’ aimed to highlight the importance of the gay community to the area. However the most spectacular event is Saturday’s Pride Parade. This parade starts at 5pm from the Rincon de Loix and snakes

through the streets of Benidorm until reaching the purpose built stage in Julio Iglesias square just behind the Town hall. This stage will feature the best tribute acts from Benidorm with Cheryl, Lady Gaga, Adam Ant and Olly Murs to name a few as well as including parts of the breathtaking show from Benidorm Palace. The only time all year you’ll see them all on one stage! The Saturday fun then continues into the early hours of the morning with a ‘SaturGAY’ free party at OVAHE bar on Levante Beach. Benidorm hosts the most family friendly pride in Spain to celebrate everything in this diverse community. The parade itself features colorful floats from all the bars, clubs and organizations playing music and many individuals in their carefully put together fancy dress and drag. Events also include a daily tapas and

wine route at 8 pm acting to highlight some of the smaller Benidorm bars, but the real twist this year is the partnership of the pride festival and Benidorm’s biggest radio station Fresh Radio. The station promises head-

lining celebrities that includes Big Brother 2015’s winner Chloe! Whether you happen to be in and around Benidorm, or you’ve travelled in especially for this, you’ll want to check out the schedule as 2015 promises to be the biggest and most fabulous pride yet! Keep up to date with all the events at HYPERLINK “http://www.benidormpride. com” www.benidormpride.com and we will bring you coverage of all of the events exclusively in next week’s Buzz newspaper.exclusively in next week’s Buzz newspaper.

Artesano opens in Moraira

by CRIS WEST

Last week saw the opening of a brand new style of café in Moraira that doubles as an art gallery with a bar license and a fresh juice and smoothie bar. Artesano stands out on the Moraira-Calpe road, just behind the large car park as somewhere very different. Every aspect of Artesano’s design has carefully been thought out to look ultra chic yet comfortable, it would easily fit in London’s Soho with its varnished wooden paneling and modern furnishings. They also have both indoor and an outdoor terrace making it a popular any time of day and they can ensure you’re kept warm during the winter months. The concept was developed by partners Matthew and Ismael to fill a gap in the Costa Blanca’s art scene displaying works by local artists to enjoy and all is available to purchase. A range of photography, paintings, sculptures, and much more can be seen at Artesano, and will be changed each month. Not only does the café stand out for how it looks, but the menu is already creating quite a stir. Matthew said “we wanted to create something different where everyone can eat. We’ve comprised a healthy, filling and affordable menu that will keep you returning”. The menu boasts an abundance of tasty breakfast and lunch items

and includes a large range of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as gluten and lactose free. They also aren’t shy when it comes to alcohol and just one look at the well stocked bar will having your ordering another cocktail. However it’s the juices and smoothies that are proving some of the most popular items, Ismael said, “the juices are selling on reputation alone! People love having something tasty and filling that’s low in calories too.” The place was packed during the official launch party last week with family, friends and many interested customers who were treated to some songs by local singer Gill Henry as well as lots of free drinks and samples from Artesano’s extensive menu. During a teary opening speech, Matthew thanked everyone who came, but non-more than his builder, Rab Ronaldson for transforming what was a small storage area into the ultra modern space it is today. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, into good food, or simply a Moraira resident wanting something a bit different pop down to Artesano, opposite Moraira Park, underneath Justin’s Salon. You won’t be disappointed and Matthew and Ismael will ensure you want to go back for more. For opening times check out their website: www.artesanomoraira.com

Torrential Rain Causes Flash Floods

by SPENCER WILLIAMS Like most people on the Costa Blanca, it’s been difficult to remember the last time we saw rain and all summer we have been constantly reminded of the drought problems up and down the coast leaving many towns and villages without running water. However that took a dramatic turn for the worse last week with an unexpected storm system coming in from the Mediterranean that was literally electrifying. With fantastic displays of fork lightning across the region, reports of flooding quickly arose from around the Marina Alta

tre although was one of the areas worse affected with many homes totally uninhabitable. Other reported rainfall included Calpe with 24 litres, Benissa had 21.4 and Javea with 20.8 litres per square metre. Twitter and

cars being totally inaccessible with reports of some floating away. According to data provided by the different municipalities, Finestrat recorded the highest rainfall with water gauges registering over 70 litres per square metre followed closely by L’Alfas with 64.2 litres in the same period. Denia was clocked at 39.5 litres per square me-

region. With the speed and ferocity that the storm brought quickly subsiding, it appeared for a moment that Mother Nature had got it out of her system. However, it changed back just as rapid and stuck around for a whole week with most of the Costa Blanca getting another huge fall of rain all though Monday. Due to the speed that the storm came in, many people had been caught out by it and got into difficulties. Following the unusually hot summer, the roads were not used to the wet weather, which caused homes and businesses to flood, wide areas of power cuts and even

Facebook exploded with images from across the Costa Blanca of residents and tourists all getting involved making the most of the unusual situation. Many holidaymakers tried to enjoy the torrential downfall by taking videos of people on lilos and swimming in the temporary sluice filled rivers. Amongst the more serious videos, firefighters were seen being caught out by the unexpected storm causing a fire truck to tip onto its side in Benidorm, an area that was heavily flooded in the same place last October. We have of course provided many of the pictures from the Internet for your enjoyment.

JAVEA CONNECT MASQUERADE BALL

by CRIS WEST

Whether you’re new to Javea or you’ve lived here a while, undoubtedly you’ll have come across Javea Connect, the go-to page on Facebook for any information about Javea! Whether you’ve got items for sale, need details on the Spanish legal system or (the ever popular request for) opening times of local shops, simply join the group and ask away. With over 7000 members, someone will undoubtedly have the correct information for you. The group was created by Loraine Gostling in 2011 to help businesses grow and aid new visitors to the area. However now it’s outgrown it’s original purpose and is now also helping owners to find lost pets, locating homes

for needy expats and Loraine and her assistant Gwenda Robinson wants to use the group to raise money and awareness for charity too! “The Masquerade Ball is a golden opportunity to put down those keyboards and mobiles for a night, put on a disguise for a couple of hours and meet “mask to mask” for one exciting evening” said organiser LoraineThe Javea Connect Masquerade Ball will be on the 12th September at the Dance Club in Toscamar, Javea, starting at 8.00pm. Since many of the members of this group have never actually met, the evening will start with everyone wearing masks for a disguise before a big reveal later on. You can finally put a face to the profile picture and not have to pass on message via the medium of the Internet. The dress code insists on

masks as well as red, white and black. The evening is aiming to raise awareness and money for various charities in the area (chosen by the attendees on the night) from funds raised by the tickets, charged at 20 euros each as well as a raffle. All prizes have been graciously donated by local businesses. However, it’s not all about the charities and what’s been dubbed as ‘the social event of the year’ promises to have something for everyone with a full buffet, live music from Strikland and DJ Steve Solo and much more. The event is not only for Javea Connect members and promises to be a fantastic opportunity to make friends as well as promising business connections. Tickets are available from selected businesses throughout Javea. For a full list, sign up

U3A Vall del Pop 3rd September Talk by Author Robert Bauval

Robert Bauval, born and raised in Egypt, is the author of fifteen bestselling books on the mysteries of the ancient world. On 3rd of September the Polivalent Centre in Murla was filled to capacity with members of several U3As from across the region plus members of the public, all eager to hear Robert, who had been asked to condense some of his vast knowledge into a presentation. The all too brief hour concentrated on the significance of the Giza Pyramids and their relation to the night skies above – specifically the three belt stars in the constellation of Orion and the brightest star, Sirius. His book, The Orion Mystery, reached No.1 in the bestseller lists and has since been translated into thirty languages. Robert’s ‘Orion Correlation Theory’, along with the accompanying BBC documentary ‘The Great Pyramid – Gateway to the Stars’, took the world by storm back in 1994. Frankly, it is amazing that no one has spotted it before. Back in around 3,000 BC there wasn’t much else to watch at night but the vast sky above. No light pollution then to hide the constellations and sheer beauty of the Milky Way. No wonder they thought the perfect way to honour their ‘gods’ above, was to build the pyramids below in a way that reflected what they saw when they looked up to the heavens. Robert brought us the ‘cosmic’ perspective on how

and why the Great Pyramid was conceived and designed, radically changing our understanding of the ancient Egyptian mind-set. He has faced huge challenges in trying to get his revolutionary research accepted amongst Egyptologists. Big pyramids attract big egos! He addressed the questions often asked by the general public. Why were they built? Were they just tombs or something much deeper? We now have the technology to understand more clearly how they were built and are finally beginning to understand the spiritual influences and astral theology behind their creation. The significance of the Great Pyramid’s internal construction – the shafts, and how they point to the various constellations is still being hotly debated within academic circles. Robert’s brother, Jean-Paul, then gave us the ‘maths’, presenting all the internal dimensions of the Great Pyramid to reveal the metaphysical nature of the structure, where the prime numbers 11 and 14 predominate. The fascinating part is how advanced and mathematically perfect it all is! Finally, Robert took us back into what the Egyptians called the ‘First Time’ (around 10,500 BC), when the constellation of Leo rose on the eastern horizon at dawn, directly in line with the gaze of the Sphinx. He brought his presentation to a close by posing the

question, was the great lion carved from the bedrock of the Giza plateau to commemorate the dawn of the age of Leo, thousands of years before the time of the pharaohs? Robert will be making a further presentation on 7th September to members of the U3A Vall del Pop Egyptology Group, which is led by David Rohl, another renowned Egyptologist who brought Robert to Jalon.

The 70th Anniversary of Tomatina

by CRIS WEST

2015 marks the 70th anniversary of Tomatina, the tomato throwing festival in the Spanish town of Buñol. This internationaly famed messy event sees thousands of revelers from all over the world travelling to this usually sleepy town to take advantage of this once a year spectacular. Due to the immense success of this festival, in 2013 the town council had to start ticketing the event to limit the amount of people coming to just 20,000. Years previous to this saw numbers of over 50,000 people turning up on the day to participate. The story of Tomatina dates back to August 1945 where a group of young people went to Buñol’s town square to see a parade and in the excitement, managed to knock a musician off his float. The angry musician started to throw anything in his path at the group and unfortunately (or fortunately as the case may be) came across a vegetable stall stocking tomatoes… and the rest is history! The event starts early on in the day with local residents trying to climb a greased pole to reach a prime cut of meat, but due to the height of this pole Car is covered in tomatoes. Inset: couple are completely soaked in a river of toms! and the amount of grease added, it is very rarely reached. The official throwOnce the second gun shot sounds, no with water cannons. The Costa Blanca Property Guide has arrived!

There’s a new girl on the block, and a new magazine on the stands! The Costa Blanca Property Guide hits the streets with a bang this week. The Guide is an essential tool for your property search, showcasing properties for sale & rent as well as being packed with advice from reputable agents, lawyers, removal firms and even real life stories from people who have made the move to our wonderful coastline. The brainchild of Joanne Alderton, an Independent Property Finder here on the Northern Costa Blanca, the guide will be published and distributed monthly throughout the region, as well as being distributed at the major Property Exhibitions in the UK, such as A Place In The Sun and The Expat Show, where Aldertons Independent Property Finders will be exhibiting. Joanne Alderton is a married mother of 2 small children, she moved to Spain, leaving the UK behind, in 1995. Now based on the Costa Blanca North covering most of the Costa Blanca North region, Joanne set up Aldertons as she felt there was a desperate need for a good, totally independent property finding company, who would work solely for the buyer; and not for the seller - nor the sales agent, therefore offering complete independent access to the thou-

sands of properties available to buy in this area, even to the properties that you would NEVER find through a traditional estate agent, or property search website. Aldertons provide a personal service, tailored to your exact requirements. They work on the property buyers behalf, and with their wealth of knowledge, experience and contacts in this area you can be confident that they will find your ideal property. For estate agents and other associated property businesses, the Costa Blanca Property Guide is the perfect way to advertise their properties & services, placing their names directly into the hands of interested customers, in towns where they may not have a physical shop front, and in the case of the property exhibitions, directly in front of the potential customer at the very start of their property search. In addition to this, there are a growing number of property owners who prefer to sell their own property, and avoid the fees associated with traditional property agents. The Costa Blanca Property Guide has a selection of properties for sale ‘Direct from The Owner’ – where house hunters can view properties that they wont find in agents windows, or online. The Costa Blanca Property Guide is proud to have formed an associa-

tion with Buzz Media – whereby clients of The Weekly Buzz and Heat FM can benefit from favourable discounted advertising rates in The Costa Blanca Property Guide, and vice versa. This not only affords advertisers the luxury of being presented in a lovely glossy magazine, but also weekly advertising in the ever popular local newspaper The Weekly Buzz, and additional brand recognition through the Northern Costa Blanca’s premier hit music station Heat FM. And for Estate Agents this is even better – as it allows them to upload their properties onto the dedicated property portal ww.propertyplus.com – adding another string to their property marketing bow. It is the most comprehensive advertising package for anybody, or any business involved in property and real estate. For further information on advertising, or to find out more about Aldertons Independent Property Finder’s service, please call Joanne Alderton on +34 626 857 718, or email joanne@aldertons.es

Benidorm

Watch Your Pockets!

Two gang members were spotted last week in Benidorm and are still yet unapprehended. The two culprits have been preying on visitors of hotels in and around the area. A quick thinking member of the ‘British Benidorm’ organisation and Facebook group took these photos to alert other visitors to the area. Tourists who are staying at the hotels Rosamar and Sol Pelícanos Ocas appear to be their main targets, working in a number of ways to rob their victims. It has been reported that they try to help people with heavy luggage off the coach as well as up and down the hotel stairs. Whilst people may initially appreciate a hand, especially when in a hot new country, these gang members try to grab what they can while you are unaware. By working as a pair to distract you, they can separate you from your friends and then your belongings. British Benidorm also suggested that it is important you are ‘not afraid to scream and shout’ if something does happen as the gangs do not like to have attention drawn to them. Unfortunately this is just one example

of organised crime that operates in Benidorm however the council have been quick to point out that this happens in tourist locations all over the world and it should be normal practice to only handle your own luggage and not leave it unattended at any point. The Facebook group ‘British Benidorm’ has been campaigning to improve Benidorm and it’s surrounding areas by highlighting situations and individuals like these two thieves to the local press & Town Hall stating that it ‘spoils tourists and residents stay in Benidorm by having to be constantly vigilant to pickpockets, muggers, mafias of professional beggars, pea-men (hosting a game called Find the Pea under trick cups) fake charity collectors as well as landscaping issues like the dirtiness of certain areas, bad condition of pavements and roads to name but a few’. A huge ‘well done’ is owed to all of those involved in the ‘British Benidorm’ group with their latest post being shared over 30,000 times on their page alone and has been seen by over 2 million people.

Cigarette Causes Fire According to the Calpe City Council, a cigarette butt thrown by a driver passing through the AP-7 motorway (kilometre 631) was the cause of a fire on Tuesday 1st September. The fire burned an estimated one thousand square meters in woodland in the OltĂ mountain area. The response team

consisted of three fire engines, two seaplanes, a helicopter and many members of the local police and Civil Guard of Calpe who all helped extinguish the fire along the highway. The fire department of Benidorm reported via their social media that the fire is thought to have begun at around 6.30pm however the situation was already under control in an

hour and a half. At about that time, due to the good performance of all of the attendees, the three aerial support vehicles were removed and ground support fire members continued with the task of reviewing land. by SPENCER WILLIAMS

City Council Offer Help For Refugees

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

The Calpe council intends to respond to the plight of Syrian refugees and they have conveyed to the government of Spain their willingness to offer available resources and use any aid and services that they have at their disposal to care for refugees.

The local government is considering several proposals to facilitate the reception of refugees and is planning services for interested neighbors who can both host refugee families and send their aid to people displaced from their home country in the form of donations.

On Saturday 12th September the Red Cross, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Social Welfare and Citizen Participation, will hold a meeting to discuss these points as well as offer an opportunity to citizens who wish to make donations to help the Syrian refugees. It is being held in the Plaza de la Villa

from 9am to coincide with the concert of the Youth Choir of Bilbao, Oiartzungo Taldea Flute and the Musical Union of San Pedro de Pinatar. In addition, the NGO has set up a registrywith the names of the families that are interested in hosting some of the displaced refugees.

Port Fiestas start with a bang!

by CRIS WEST

The two-week port fiesta in Javea kicked off in style this week with the traditional parades, family meals and a rock concert until 4 am. If you’re a resident of Javea, you will have undoubtedly heard the noise, and if you’re not a local, it’s worth a visit to what is one of the most popular fiestas in the area. Although the official celebration isn’t

Spanish. Whatever your feelings on bull running (not to be confused with bull fighting), it’s something you will never have seen before. The bulls and the most daring (or stupid) Spanish run towards, and often fall into the sea on a nightly basis. The weekend days of the fiesta start with a 8 am wake up call comprising of a walking around the port letting off fireworks every 30 seconds. However the most spectacular event in the fiesta calendar is the sensational water fireworks on Friday 11th September. After last years last minute cancellation (a political intervention) this year promises to be bigger than ever. Starting at midnight, the fireworks go from a platform in the sea and go on for about 15 minutes. The night ends with music and dancing until 4.30am. Make sure you grab a seat Last year’s Port Fiesta - Fireworks. The history of the fiesta celebrates the Virgin Mary’s birth in the house of Loreto, hence the full name of the fiesta being ‘Mare De Deu De Loreto’: Our Lady of Loreto. The port fiestas has something for all the family with junior fishing challenges, drawing competitions and free hot chocolate for the children, whilst the adults get classic cars, paella and plenty of opportunities for drinking with the

Dine and Dance 1

SIXTY-FOUR members of Javea U3A’s Dine and Dance group enjoyed a fun evening on the terrace at El Rancho restaurant. After a delicious three-course meal, members took to the dance floor to work off some of the calories to the music of two-piece vocalist and guitarist Celtic Knot. Once again it was a highly successful get-together thanks to the hard work of

Whether or not it was down to their superb organisational abilities we cannot say, but the weather was kind just 24 hours after the worst thunderstorm of the summer to hit the area! Choir Opens the Autumn Season

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

The Outstanding Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir is performing in Teulada on Saturday October 10th to support the community work of the Church of England in the area. Following it’s usual summer recess, the ever-popular choir will sing, under the direction of Musical Director Claire Post-Harkness at the auditorium below the Town Hall in Teulada. The venue holds an audience of 250, so tickets will sell fast! To reserve your tickets for this new programme, and to support the choir and the work of the Anglican Chaplaincy please call Martin Bentley on 96 574 4657, or email him at martinbentley1@gmail.com. Tickets are just €10 a head. Church of England parishes in Spain are entirely self-funding. So fundraising is essential to maintain the Church’s ministry here, including funerals and pastoral care to the sick and the bereaved - and the activities of the seven local churches in support of causes such as Caritas, EMAUS, World Vision and the Gandia Hospice. The Chaplaincy serves the community from Valencia to Alicante with Sunday service in 8 different towns. For information on the activities of the church and the contact details and service times visit costablanca-anglicanchap-

laincy.org/.

The Choir The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir was the first expatriate male voice choir on the coast and we have a membership of nearly 50. A l though a few members read music, the majority do not, and so we have a number of methods to help learn the music including a computer software package called Noteworthy which can be used to play any part over and over again. We had 11 performances last year and rehearse every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm in the back room of the Bar Mediterraneo in Teulada (30 mins north of Benidorm). We have a summer break in July and August. New members are always welcome. All we ask is that you like singing and can sing mainly in English. THE hot summer weather got a little hotter for 16 members of Javea U3A’s Curry Club. They got together for a picnic at the lovely home of members Maureen and Bill and enjoyed a mix of spicy starters, main courses, side dishes and desserts. While the club was officially in recess during the holiday period, group leaders James and Dodie Hodgkinson decided it would be a pleasant change for a special summer get-together – and nobody went home disappointed. James thanked everyone for attending and proposed a special vote of thanks to hosts Maureen and Bill for opening up their home and providing such a lovely setting for the occasion. This month, the curry club is back in business with its regular round of feasts at

members’ homes. Any Javea U3A members interested in joining the group can visit the website u3ajavea.org and follow the links to the Curry Club.

HAWELI - ALBIR

Our team visit to the Haweli Indian Restaurant in Albir was one that we had been looking forward to. I had received many great comments from people that I know that use the restaurant regularly and I was intrigued to sample the Indian cuisine for myself. The Haweli has been trading for 9 years in Albir with the same chef, a solid reputation for the quality authentic cuisine that has been built up over these years. Jasveer the manager explained to me that the restaurant has mainly regular customers some that he has known for many years. With 70 covers inside and also with a outside terrace that seats over 100 people the Haweli is spacious and offers a choice of comfortable table settings. A centre point in Albir is the Albir Playa Hotel and the Haweli is found directly opposite. Our order comprised of the normal favourite curry dishes as well as a change from my usual choice. Chicken Tika Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Sagg Panir accompanied by Pilau Rice and Nan Bread. The extensive menu choice offered much more than some other Indian Restaurants so amongst the favourites there were a number of different dishes to choose from and the most apparent difference was the inclusion of the selection Beef Curries. My immediate opinion when the food was served was the attractive individual metal burners that stood with a dish placed on top. Each dish was served to the table

and the layout was extremely appetising. The food was served at the correct temperature something that quite often seems to be at fault in many restaurants. The lamb was very tender and moist and the curry sauce was a little spicy but not too hot, I enjoy spicy food but if it burns my mouth then I do not enjoy it. The Chicken Tikka Masala was served with a creamy sauce that was tangy and full of flavour of the tandoori oven cooked chicken. Slightly spicy the masala sauce gave the dish a rich flavoursome consistency. My experience in eating curry goes back along way in fact I have dined regularly for over 20 years at the oldest Indian restaurant in London “The Taj Mahal” located in Neal St, Covent Garden. With my experience I have very high expectations and in this experience I can say that my expectations were delivered. Decent size portions cooked with care by a very experienced Indian Chef. For the Weekly Buzz Team, Haweli is a recommended eating experience

“Beautiful steak”

“New and very good”

Reviewed August 25, 2015 First choice, fantastic, brilliant, very tasty, diminutive restaurant nice & cosy perfect for Families or an intimate meal with your partner

Reviewed August 28, 2015 We had a very good meal, extremely reasonable and lovely staff. Our two waitresses were very friendly and chatty and the food was slightly different but very good. If you like a little spice in your food I thoroughly recommend it.

“Family meal”

Ingredients 2 tbsp olive oil, plus a little for greasing 750g lean beef mince 90g pack prosciutto ½ quantity tomato sauce (see below)

Method

1. First make the ragu or meat sauce. Heat the oil in a frying pan, then cook the beef in two batches for about 10 mins until browned all over. Finely chop 4 slices of prosciutto, then stir through the meat mixture. 2. Pour over the tomato sauce and stock, add the nutmeg, then season. Bring up to the boil, then simmer for 30 mins until the ragu looks rich and is well coated in sauce. Can be left for 3 days in the fridge or frozen for 3 months (although not if the tomato sauce has previously been frozen). 3. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. To assemble lasagne, lightly oil an ovenproof serving dish (30 x 20cm). Spoon over a third of the ragu sauce, then cover with lasagne sheets. Drizzle over about one quarter of the white sauce. Repeat until you have 3

200ml hot beef stock a little grated nutmeg 300g fresh pack lasagne sheets ½ quantity white sauce (see below) 125g ball mozzarella layers of pasta. Cover with the remaining half quantity of white sauce, making sure you can’t see any pasta poking through. 4. Tear the mozzarella into thin strips, then scatter over the top. Arrange the rest of the prosciutto on top. Bake for 45 mins until the top is bubbling and lightly browned. (The uncooked lasagne can be frozen. If baking from frozen, add another 45 mins to the cooking time).

Wine Serve with a nice medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon, Faustino, Campo Viejo Crianza Rioja or Castell.

Mercedes-Benz GLC - review Mercedes-Benz GLC

Interior of th e Jaguar XF 20 15

Mercedes-Benz’s new and simplified naming convention, it’s easy to understand what the GLC is. It’s a 4x4 (that’s the GL part) that’s loosely based on the C-Class (the C part). It sits between the GLA and GLE in price and dimensions, and it therefore has two obvious rivals in the shape of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. There’s plenty of front and rear head and legroom, plus it combines this with absolutely superb all round refinement. Most of the time, driving the GLC feels like driving a big, gentle, luxury SUV - in the best possible way. It’s the way that Mercedes-Benz has dampened out the outside world

that makes that so. There’s very little road or wind noise, even at motorway speed, while engine drone is virtually nonexistent at lower revs. It’s sometimes difficult to believe that there’s a four-cylinder diesel engine chugging away beneath the bonnet. The only two versions available in the UK, for the first 18 months or so at least, are four-cylinder diesels, badged GLC 220d and GLC 250d. There’s a 34PS difference between the two (170PS against 204PS), but not a great deal of performance distinction. Not to worry, because both are quick enough without ever feeling rapid, and

they’re both very economical in the context of a big, heavy 4x4, with the same claimed 56.5mpg and 129g/km CO2. That compares favourably to the less powerful base-level Audi Q5 2.0 TDI 150 PS. The GLC happens to be excellent off road too, though to pull out the welltrodden cliché, it doesn’t really need to be – that it can traverse the

roughest, most slanted and slippery terrain is more a demonstration of how well engineered it is than anything else. With that in mind, the fact it also handles with the finesse of something much

smaller is even more impressive. The GLC is, believe it or not, quite enjoyable to drive, thanks to weighty steering and tight body control. But most importantly, it just feels like a really nice thing on the road. It’s spacious and comfortable and its visibility is excellent. There’s no unwieldiness about it and the cabin – lifted almost directly from the C-Class – is beautiful. The price you pay is, well, the price, which is generally £2000 to £3000 higher than an equivalent BMW or Audi. Then factor in that the best version of the GLC needs a host of expensive options, and this becomes one pricey midsized SUV.

CarFest South has kicked off with a very special guest. Yep, we vacuum packed our tame racing driver and sent him off to give Chris Evans a helping hand for his annual motoring event. CarFest, don’t forget, is Chris’s car-themed mega-show that’s chockfull of motors, food, live music, family

entertainment and, um, some skids. Ahead of the show, Stig was on hand to give passenger laps in a Ferrari Enzo at Thruxton circuit to some very lucky people. The full show kicks off today, running through to Sunday, and takes place at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire.

The Beginner’s Guide To Chiropractic

If you’re reading this article, you’re probably curious about chiropractic care, how it can help you and your family. So let’s explore what chiropractic is all about, and how it works. A chiropractor is a health care professional who specialises in the health and function of the spine and nervous system. Because of this focus on the spine, many people think chiropractors can

only help with problems such as back pain, neck pain and headaches. And while it’s true, chiropractors can often help people with pain, but there is so much more to chiropractic than just pain. Chiropractic care is really about total health and wellbeing. It’s about helping people to feel great, and get the most out of life by functioning at their optimal potential. To understand how

this works, it’s important to consider the spine’s role in the body. The spine is there to protect the spinal cord, which is part of the central nervous system. The spine is like a set of armour made up of segments, so that it can bend and move naturally with the body. A spinal segment consists of two vertebrae and the joints that connect them. There is a disc in-between each vertebra that acts as a cushion. Underneath that armour, a whole lot is happening. Messages travel from around the body, up the spinal cord and into the brain. The brain processes those messages, and sends replies back down the spinal cord to tell the body how to respond. The central nervous system is one big information highway, and it carries vital messages to every part of your body. Sometimes, the wear and tear of everyday life can impact the spine

and cause spinal segments to move in a way that is different to normal – in a dysfunctional way. That wear and tear can happen gradually, such as from bad posture, or it can happen suddenly, which is common with sports injuries. Because of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system, everyday strains can actually impact the flow of information between the brain and the body. Messages may not be delivered to the brain, or they may be inaccurate. When that miscommunication occurs due to abnormal movement in the spine, chiropractors call this a ‘vertebral subluxation’. You might hear that term again from your chiropractor – so now you’ll know what it means. By making fast, gentle adjustments to the spine, chiropractors restore its natural movement. If the central nervous system is like the ‘engine’ of your body; a Chiropractor acts like a mechanic – tuning the spine and central nervous system so that the body can run like a race car. Just keep in mind that as you are adjusted, you may hear a popping sound that can seem a bit strange. In fact it’s completely harm Continuted on page 41

lem. The fire alarm is not the problem, the fire is! So don’t turn the fire alarm off and ignore the problem, go find the cause and put out the fire. For a chiropractor to help you, it may take a number of visits. If your problem took time to build up to the level it is at today, is not moving properly, it may be interrupting the flow of information from your leg to your brain and back again. And because of this, your leg may be receiving faulty messages from your brain, which means your knee moves in a less than ideal way. Poor movement sustained over time often creates an imbalance in your body and may cause pain. Remember that your body is one big interconnected system – no part of it operates in isolation. The objective of chiropractic care is to restore healthy communication throughout your body, and to maintain this communication over time, leading to better function, less accidents and a healthier you!

what is Cradle Cap?

Cradle Cap (Seborrhoeic Dermatitis) is a very common condition which affects young babies. It is harmless and doesn’t usually itch or cause discomfort to the baby. It is not contagious and is not due to poor health or hygiene. However, it can be unsightly. It manifests as yellow or brown scales and greasy patches on the baby’s scalp. These scales will eventually start to flake and may make the affected skin appear red. Sometimes the hair may also come away with the flakes. It most commonly occurs in the first two months and usually clears up within a couple of months. Occasionally it can last longer.

A baby with ‘cradle cap’

Baby’s forehead with cradle cap!

It is thought to be caused by overactive sebaceous glands. These are glands in the skin that produce an oily substance called sebum. Sometimes this sebum is left to build

up as parents are nervous about washing their baby’s scalp and tend to just ‘dab’ instead of washing properly. Also, many parents do not rinse a baby’s head sufficiently. It is always a good idea to chat to your midwife about baby bathing. She will be able to offer lots of hints and useful tips! Once a baby already has cradle cap, it may be useful to massage baby oil into the baby’s scalp at bedtime, allowing it to soak in and loosen the crusts, then give a good hair wash in the morning. This will need to be repeated over a few nights. The most important thing is not to pick the scales as this will lead to infection. For any advice about the care of you new baby, always speak to your Midwife.

Continuted from page 40 less – it’s just the release of gas from between spinal segments, and is no more significant than any other release of gas from the body. So… are you ready to supercharge your engine? If you are visiting your chiropractor today because you have a symptom, such as pain, it is important to understand that troublesome symptoms don’t appear out of thin air. They build up over time like the analogy of straws on a camel’s back. Hundreds of straws are stacked up over time, yet with the addition of the thousandth tiny straw, the camel’s back suddenly breaks. It’s the same with symptoms – the problem can build up unnoticed over time, then suddenly symptoms make themselves known in a big way. A symptom may only be the tip of the iceberg – with a much bigger problem lying under the surface. After all, a symptom is just a symptom – it isn’t the cause. Symptoms are a bit like the fire alarm going off, to warn you that there is a prob-

Pets Corner What Your Pet Says About Your Personality

Cat people, dog people, you probably know some of each! Turns out that our ideas about people and their pet choices stem from some amount of truth. Several studies have been done to determine what characteristics make a “dog person” and what sets them apart from “cat people.” The Dog Person Dogs are the most popular pet claiming a canine companion as a member of their family. For dog lovers around the world, it is obvious why (we just think everyone should have a rescue dog). A study found that the people who define themselves as dog people tend to be more extroverted, more agreeable and more conscientious

than cat people. It was even found that dog people tend to be “the most fun to be around,” when compared to all other people with pets. Seeing the number of dogs and their parents out at the beach, surfing, hiking, and walking around town, we can understand this deduction. Researchers believe that dog people tend to fall into this category because they want a companion to join them on their social outings and a reason to talk to strangers. A truly random study found that dog people are 18 percent more likely to choose Paul McCartney as their favorite Beatle (the best Beatle) than cat people (cat people pick George Harrison, a noble choice).Who knew so many characteristics rely on your choice of best friend!

The Cat Person Calm down cat people, we know it isn’t all about the dog. Cats make it a close race, coming in behind dogs for the spot as second most popular pet in the household. A whopping 33 percent of households are home to these bundles of fun and attitude. Though cat households are more likely to have more than one cat than dog households. Cat people tend to be much more creative and adventurous. These pet parents are more prone to more neuroticism and some anxiety, though. Like cat, like parent, we suppose! Cat people have been found to be the most dependable and emotionally sensitive. These feline fanatics are the good listeners everyone is looking for in a friend. No guarantees they’ll purr for you though.

ALFAZ FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE As the Fantasy League pauses for a break in the International Week ,we can take stock of what’s happened so far. It’s good see that all the home Nations have a chance of Qualifying for European Championship although I’m not to sure about Scotland. There was a lot of activity before the Transfer Window closed especially if you was a West Ham Fan or Watford Fan who between them signed over 20 odd Players.Unfortunately most of the signing came to late for our Fantasy League Managers to include them in their Teams.Don’t forget if one of your Players moved to one Premier League Club to another such as Aaron Lennon it does’t effect points gained so far in the Fantasy because he has stayed in the Premier League. Two Teams have had the privilege of topping the Fantasy so far and they are Phil’s Team Flixton Sunshiners and Angies Blues(present Leaders). The U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League as also had 2 Teams at the Summit Gino’s Minions 1 Week and Leo’s Power Blueboys 3 Weeks. Leo’s Team Power Blueboys were also top of our Leonard Knowles Construction Golden Boot League for the 1st few Weeks but they have now been overtaken by David Team The Pondencos. Nikki’s Liverbird 94 got off to a fly-

er in the 1st Week of our Mark Carter Ladies Section but since then Angies Blues have built up ahead of steam and have opened a gap of 47 points over Megan’s How Much Depay. One of the biggest problems this Season for our Fantasy League Managers was to decide which Players were going and which ones were staying. Who would have thought that De Gea would still be at Manchester United after the Transfer Window had closed. Last Season he was the most selected Goalkeeper this Year only 1 Manager selected him.Berahino is saying he won’t play again for West Brom which is a bit of a problem for the 21 Fantasy Managers who chosen the little Striker. Personally I think the Player Union will make him full fill his contract. The most selected Goalkeeper this Season is Arsenal’s only signing Peta Cech with 103 votes almost double what 2nd placed Joe Hart received.Up to now Joe Hart as collected 24 Fantasy Points thanks to four clean sheets. Most selected Defender is Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany with 56 Managers putting there faith in him and he hasn’t disappointed them with 30 points already in the bag.Gary Cahill and the much sought after John Stones were in 2nd & 3rd place. Not surprisingly Chelsea’s Edin Hazard was the most selected

Mid-Fielder with 75 Managers backing him to repeat last Season’s form unfortunately it’s not happened so far.Manchester City’s Wizard David Silva received 55 votes 1 infront of Manchester United’s flying winger Memphis Depay. The most selected Player this Season is last Years Golden Boot Winner Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with no fewer than 141 votes.2nd to him is Spurs Harry Kane with 111 who has yet to find the net in the Premier League. Top Scorer up to now in the Fantasy League is Swansea’s Gomis with 31 Fantasy points only 4 Managers selected the Black Panther.Bournemouth’s Wilson and Leicester City’s Mahrez are up there both on 28 points 5 Managers picked Wilson and only 1 selected Mahrez and that was a big Foxes Fan Debbie Coleman. Overall it’s been a reasonable start to the Season with 99 goals flying into the back of the net in the 40 games played in the Premier League. We have had 26 clean sheets and 170 yellow cards an average of over 4 a game and 11 red ones.We have had 8 penalties awarded and 5 Players who have put the ball in the back of their own.Palace leading the way with 2 of them. Well that’s just a summary of the Fantasy League so far. I’m sure there will be plenty of action after the International Break.

Rooney Makes History It’s official - Wayne Rooney is now England’s outright leading scorer of all time, after reaching the impressive 50 goals mark with a penalty at Wembley in the 2-0 win over Switzerland. The Manchester United captain’s 84th-minute conversion moved him one strike clear of Sir Bobby Charlton, whose

long-standing feat of 49 was matched by Rooney at the weekend when he netted away to San Marino, also from the penalty spot. Speaking after the match, Rooney said: “It’s a great feeling, obviously. I’ve been close to it in the last few games and to finally do it is a dream come true. I’m extremely proud tonight.

“You could see it was emotional out there. It’s a huge honour, I’m happy it’s now done.” Rooney’s opportunity to make history came when Raheem Sterling was fouled in the penalty area late on. His strike partner Harry Kane had broken the deadlock in the 67th minute, just ten minutes after

coming on as a substitute, but Wayne’s spot-kick was about much more than just making the score 2-0 to England. “I knew it was a big moment for me. I picked my corner and put my boot through it, with as much power as possible. Thankfully it had too much power for the goalkeeper.”

Murray US Open Upset Andy Murray launched an f-bomb tirade and smashed his racket during US Open defeat. The world No. 3 Andy Murray has been upset in the fourth round of the 2015 US Open by No. 15 Kevin Anderson from South Africa in four sets (7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6). Anderson was terrific on his first serve, getting 64 percent of serves in and winning 79 percent of those points -- including 25 aces and just six double faults. Anderson was aggressive in going at Murray and hit a ridiculous 81 winners in the match -- which negated 57 unforced errors.

Murray was solid, but needed to be excellent to get past the red-hot Anderson. Murray battled back from two sets down in Round 2 to win in five sets, but couldn’t recover against Anderson. The match was the longest of the tournament at four hours and 19 minutes -- (which will happen with three tiebreaks). Anderson swept the final tiebreak 7-0 to get the win as Murray simply got outplayed on Monday night. Anderson now moves on to face No. 5 Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals. This is the first time Murray has missed a grand slam

quarterfinal -- in a tournament he appeared in -- since going down in the third round of the 2010 US Open.

England To Play Spain In Alicante

England will face European champions Spain at the Rico Perez Stadium in Alicante on Friday 13 November. The fixture will form part of the Three Lions’ preparation for Euro 2016 as the Spanish join an elite list of opposition that Roy Hodgson’s side will take on in the build up to next summer’s tournament. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the venue was changed because of fears of a hostile reception for Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique in Madrid. Pique was booed once again when Spain took on Slovakia in Oviedo on Saturday in a European

Championships qualifying match, which may because of his celebrations ridiculing Madrid and Ronaldo after Barcelona won the league or due to his stance in support of Catalan independence. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that the England friendly will now be played at the Jose Rico Perez stadium in Alicante, although no direct reference was made to the Pique situation. The match will only go ahead if Spain qualify directly for Euro 2016.
