SPANISH LESBIAN COUPLE WIN ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION CASE by SPENCER WILLIAMS Spanish court has ruled in favour of a lesbian couple who sued local authorities and a hospital who refused them the right to artificial insemination because of their sexual orientation. (against) for their sexual orientation” and ordered it to pay the couple nearly €5,000 ($5,600) in damages. One of the two women began treatment in 2014 but the Madrid hospital where she was receiving it told her that she was excluded from the public programme under a recent order from the health ministry. Under the ministry directive the treatment should ony be granted to couples who had spent 12 months unsuccessfully trying to have a child through sexual intercourse, de facto excluding lesbian couples.

The women then lodged a complaint against the Spanish health ministry, regional authorities and the hospital. The court ruled that since the woman was “in a romantic relationship with another woman this criteria is impossible to fulfill and she is therefore a victim of discrimination.” It also argued that the Spanish law on assisted reproduction, which prohibits all discrimination, prevails over the health ministry directive.

Dear Readers

As we step into October, it’s lovely to see the sun is shining brightly, showing what looks like the last of the heat we’ll get until May! However people always want to make the most of these situations and I have seen many swimming in the sea and sunbathing as if it is just another summer’s day. However as autumn starts, I always look forward to seeing the big marquee erected for the fun and frivolity of the Oktoberfest in Calpe. An amazing experience which is lots of fun for the whole family, bringing plenty to do for all the family, and that’s not to mention the beer… It’s clearly been a good summer, but not for the waistline! With too many BBQ’s and parties, everyone has been offering amazing food and drink to enjoy. However just when the diets have been arranged to work off the summer pounds, we are suddenly hit with events like Oktoberfest that tempt us into submission; hotdogs, burgers, paellas and tapas are all too good to say no to I’m afraid! And that’s not even mentioning the beer as I am a firm follower of the British favourite: going to meet down the pub for a chat, watch some footy and enjoy a few beers before dinner. It’s no wonder that I’m on the slightly larger side and make too many promises to myself to adopt a more food-and-drink-free existence. My mantra has always been “work hard, play hard”. You can also find us (and your poppies!) at Heat FM radio studio in Calpe. We have a full line-up of live shows at Heat FM 90.3 FM or 106.8 FM or you can listen anytime online at www.heatfmspain.es. Vicky Locklin is the Yorkshire lass that brings a cool and subtle female voice to your radio, she’s our own star presenter on-air every weekday from 12 until 3 with the Brighter Lunchtime. The Weekly Buzz is open to the public in the indoor market in Benidorm at our news desk, come by and talk to us anytime. We have a display of business partners offering you the best products for your life here in Spain, property rentals, insurance, money exchange and much more or if you have something to tell us come and see us. Also for any business owners you can find out exactly how we can help you to get your business ‘buzzing’ together with Heat FM and The Weekly Buzz newspaper. For those people in the north areas, you can find us at our very new Calpe offices situated in the town centre, near to Specsavers and the dry riverbed. Successful March for the Elephants & Rhinos

by SPENCER WILLIAMS More than 250 walkers in Jávea joined walkers in over 133 other locations around the globe, in marching for elephants and rhinos on 4th October 2105. The Jávea march started at the Arenal, and ended at the Sports Centre in the Port, and was organised to demand an end to the ivory and rhino horn trade in China, Vietnam and the USA, plus an end to the trade wherever ivory and rhino horn sales take place. The walk was led by musicians from the Xirimitabs Xàbia band, accompanied by two “elephants” in the form of Gillian Ashworth and Brenda Bates in elephant “onesies”, banners and lots of children wearing elephant masks… some also carrying their favourite elephants! Oscar Antón started the march and accompanied the walkers with his son. The organisers gave presentations to several local schools before the event to explain about wildlife and the threats that they face in the future. These included: XIC Senior School, XIC Junior School, The Steve Jobs Rainbow School, CEIP Vicente Tena, CEIP Graull and Instituto E.S.Antoni Llido

Many of the children brought completed sponsorship forms to the walk, jointly raising additional funds for the cause. The event was a great success and a significant amount was raised for the three supported wildlife organisations which are:• The PAMS Foundation, Tanzania (http://pamsfoundation.org) - to support rangers against poaching. • Wild Life Direct, Kenya (http://wildlifedirect.org) - to fight corruption and support jurisdiction in courts in Kenya against poachers. • The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Kenya (http:// www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org) - to support an elephant orphanage and release programme. This event follows the recent successful screenings in Jávea of the film When Giants Fall. The organisers have one last event planned which is a fund-raising dinner at the Parador on 28th October. This will be a special event with a

short presentation, a raffle and an auction of some very interesting items, including an elephant sculpture by local

sculptor, Toni Marí. If anyone is interested in attending they should contact gmferjavea@ gmail.com Petitions have been raised to the American & Chinese Ambassadors in Madrid. In addition, the organisers have set up an on-line petition to President Uhuru Kenyatta which has attracted over 2,450 signatures to date. If anyone would like to add their support, go to http://tinyurl. com/qbrt3y

Raising Money For Alzheimers All members of the English choir of Teulada –Moriara are well into rehearsals for their autumn concert which takes place at the Salon de’ Actos, Teulada’s intimate theatre, next to the Library off the town’s main square at 7pm on the 7th of November. However, the choirs Hon Secretary, Judith Haynes is working extra hard as she is determined all the ladies have new, and as you can see, very sparkly outfits hopefully to debut at the concert. “Judith’s dressmaking activities are rapidly taking over the whole Villa” observed long suffering husband Ronald “thankfully the gentlemen are only being provided with new bow ties or I shouldn’t have any where to sit and watch the football” The autumn concert which is entitled “A Trans-Atlantic Conversation” features songs from the shows and popular music from both sides of Atlantic and explicit connections and comparisons are made as we meander through the years and listen to the best loved popular music of the 20th century. For more information about the Choir contact Judith on 96 648 0195 or e-mail ronandju@ gmail.com for tickets contact Janet on 96 574 5091 or e-mail janetbrowncraft@gmail.com.

The Costa Blanca Gets Spooky For Halloween

by Cris West It may only be the first week of October but more and more venues are releasing details of their spooky nights and special events in time for you to get your costumes out and give each other a fright! Last week, The Weekly Buzz reported on the terrifying events happening up at Mundomar marine Animal Park with themed shows like Phantom of the Opera with the use of their resident dolphins, and even a Trick-or-treat with sea lions event that is not be missed! Whilst the British typically celebrate the 31st of October as the special night, the Spanish celebrate the day after on the 1st of November, a national holiday called All Saints Day. It is traditional to get dressed up in your finery and visit any of your deceased family members to pay your respects, as well as giving flowers in the form of a bouquet or similar for the the grave. Spanish cemeteries are slighty different to the ones in the UK as to conserve space, they are stacked above ground in individual tombs featuring the epitaph and sometimes even a photo of the individual. The cemeteries

will become awash with light and colour though as family and friends visit throughout the day. Benidorm’s popular theme park Terra Mitica is also throwing their usual month long event, which promises to be even bigger than before following the parks recent changes. They are adding a whole bunch

of horrific shows to their list including ‘The Infernal Court’ set in Hell, ‘The Grave Digger’ street show, and the ‘Vampire Tournament’ pitting the audience against the special abilities of their resident vampires. All of that plus roaming ghosts and ghouls will ensure the day (and night) of your life. The really special part of the event at Terra Mitica is the opening of the special ride ‘The Secret of the Pyramid’ situated inside a purpose built pyramid just on the way into the park. The creepy ride sees you and your nearest and dearest walk-

ing through the twists and turns of the ancient ruins with mysterious mummies and things that go bump in the night to leave you running for your life out of the exit, into the laughter of the other guests allowed to escape. Terra Mitica is on its best form during Halloween, so visit any weekend from now until the 1st of November. It’s not just Benidorm that’s bringing the scare factor, the Dance Café Toscamar, situated on Carretera del Portixol in Javea is having a family Halloween party on the night of All Hallow’s Eve (the 31st) from 6pm for a ‘spooktacular night’. The specialist event may be child friendly, but that doesn’t mean you can’t expect a goblin or two as the games get underway and the fancy dress competition promises to bring the best of the best out to play. They are also having a small buffet where they’d like you to bring a plate of spooky food to share. So dust off that Frankenstein costume and dig out those witchy rags, it’s time to go ‘oooOOOooo’!

‘Seafood’ and eat it in Javea Port

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

This weekend is longer than usual as Monday 9th marks the holiday of ‘Dia de la Comunidad Valencia’ (The day of the Valencian Community) and what better way to celebrate than visiting Javea port’s forth annual Seafood Tapas Fair. The event aims to highlight everything that the bars and restaurants in the area have to offer with most businesses choosing a selection of their best tapas for the general public to try. In addition to the great tasting food, there will be music, craft exhibitions and lots of activities for children as well as dance displays to ensure you have a great day and night! Twenty of the biggest and best establishments get together for this yearly event to give you a taste experience like no other, ‘La Mar de Tapas’ is fast becoming one of the best eating events on the Javea calendar. Cesc Camprubi, Javea’s Counciller for Economic Development says “this activity is intended to attract both locals and visitors to Javea” and it’s expected a few thousand revelers will descend on Javea this weekend to try everything that’s on offer. It’s simple: exchange your money for tickets at the booths each end of the port for only €1.80 (discount on bulk buying available) then wander up and down until something takes your fancy! Drinks, paella, squid, fish… everything you could possibly want to eat is here! The event is scheduled from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th October from 12.30 hours to 15.00 hours and 19.30-23.00 hours (on Sunday until 12.30 – 15.00).

FIBRE OPTIC PRESENTATION

by CRIS WEST

More than 200 people attended the presentation for fibre optic internet and Super HD TV, organized by the Cultural DRAGONET local company, in collaboration with the Department of New Technologies of the City of L’Alfas del Pi. Browsing at high speed will soon be a reality in L’Alfas del Pi. The town will be able to enjoy Internet speeds of 50, 100

and 200mb at prices similar to ADSL. And with the bandwidth, that will be ten times faster than traditional ADSL, allowing many different devices to be similtaneuously connected without losing quality with any of them. DRAGONET local company has been commissioned to deploy fiber optic network throughout the municipality and to provide the next generation of telecommunication services such as high speed Internet access and cable television. There have been no confirmation that these services will also be available in Albir, which falls under the Alfa del Pi municipiliaty, however we believe that Albir will be included eventually.

DRUG-DRIVING CRACKDOWN

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

It is not just drink that affects people behind the wheel, the consumption of narcotic substances have the same effects on drivers and also carries penalties for violating the Road Safety Act. With the aim of reducing traffic accidents, two months ago local police began testing vehicle drivers for various drugs. Over this initial period they have conducted 26 tests in varied circumstances, of which 73% have tested positive. This means 19 drivers had consumed or had a substance still in their system at the time of testing. Out of the nineteen who tested positive, eight tested positive for cannabis; eight for cocaine; one tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine; another for cocaine and

marijuana and finally one person had 3 substances in his system: cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine. The tests were carried out in various situations: two of them after accidents, four in preventive controls around the town and thirteen after committing a traffic violation. All drivers were men, with one who had

been on a motorcycle. Drivers who tested positive face fines of 1,000 euros according to the Spanish Road Safety Act, in addition to the removal of six points from their license. Consuming drugs can also be considered an offense under the Criminal Code if officers observe that their driving is being directly influenced. The local police in Altea intend to use these controls to reduce traffic accidents in the city as well as improving general road safety within the municipality. ABANDONED HOTEL GOES UP IN FLAMES

by CRIS WEST

closed to the public since 2007 caught fire in the early hours and forced the neighbouring hotels to vacate for safety reasons; although 6 people are being treated for smoke inhalation, no one perished. Although the fire department have yet to work out what started the blaze, they quickly put it out and ensured that the build-

ing was still structurally sound. The fire brigade also found 3 squatters living inside the abandoned structure who were all safe and have been transferred to a local police station to testify about the event. Of the 6 who were treated for smoke inhalation, only one was transferred to hospital but it is thought this is just a precaution due to his advanced age. Neighbouring hotels were forced to evacuate 75 people, but once the area was declared safe, all were allowed to return. The smoke created by the fire was carried across the nearby toll road AP-7 and caused disruption for several hours. Although the building is a b a n doned, the current owners were recently warned about the safety of it’s façade and this was called into question following a statement issued by the city councillor for public

safety Lorenzo Martinez who called the proprietors ‘reckless’ for their lack of security and that ‘necessary works’ on the anchors of the façade would need to be completed soon. The fire team left the scene once the all clear was given and residents were allowed to return to their homes and hotels. The fire did most damage to the first floor of the building and it’s thought that this is due to the amount of mattresses stored here by the squatters.

Four fire crews were called to a fire at the very front of Benidorm’s Levante beach, which shocked tourists and locals on Sunday, 4th October. The fire took place in the first 6 floors of the abandoned 500-room Selomar hotel, which caused a large plume of smoke visible all over the area. The hotel which has been

FOUR ARERESTED FOR FAKE GOODS

by SPENCER wILLIAMS

Benidorm Local Police arrested four people at the Sunday market for selling counterfeit items. Over the last 6 months officers have been cracking down on people selling fake products ranging from t-shirts to handbags, as it is technically a crime against intellectual property. The arrests took place around midday, which is generally the busiest time of the day for traders; the market is attended by thousands of people every weekend and during this operation they were also carrying out surveillance on pickpockets who often exploit the mass of people and steal valuable belongings. The local police seized around 400 items, which has an estimated street value of 12,000 euros. The four arrested vendors, whom they passed onto the National Police for processing, will be tried at the

court in Benidorm. Only one of the individuals was of Spanish nationality, although they currently reside in the city of Alicante. According to sources, at first glance these items seemed of great quality, but after closer observations it was clear they were not real and had a number of differences to the originals.

PLANE JUMP FOR EMAUS

by SPENCER WILLIAMS

On Saturday Fr Marcus Ronchetti, Senior Chaplain of the Church of England here on the Costa Blanca, bravely jumped out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft at 4000 metres to raise funds. He was accompanied by his wife Sandra, raising funds for the church and the Stroke Association, and friend Colin McNae (jumping for the Church and for RAFA). The Church here is full self funding, and provides comfort and suport to the sick and the dying, care for the bereaved and counsel to many. Wedding blessing and funerals, as well as the worship in the eight centres in the parish, which extends from Valencia

to south of Alicante keep the 3 clergy and many helpers busy. And the congregations support the work of various local charities, including the Franciscan refuge in Gandia, Cartitas foodbanks and the children of EMAUS. You can still support Marcus efforts by visiting this page - https:// crowdfunding.justgiving.com/marcus-ronchetti. Or direct to Fr Marcus on marcusronchetti@yahoo.co.uk. And now, on a clamer note, there is beautiful music ahead, with two very different and outstanding concerts this month -

Saturday October 10th “Just Us” is a special concert by super the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir, in the Salon de Actos (Teulada town hall). Tickets are €10 from Martin Bentley - 96 574 4657, or by email - martinbentley1@gmail.com. Friday October 23rd “The Guitar Whisperer”, Richard Durrant is performing a packed programme at the Ermita de San Josep on the Calle La Fustera, Benissa Costa. OKTOBERFEST IN FULL SWING by SPENCER WILLIAMS

The annual Calpe Oktoberfest gets itself well underway on Wednesday 7th October and this year promises to be bigger than ever. Based in and around the town’s Avenida Juan Carlos I, this beer themed event will be celebrating everything German up until the 18th of the month. The typical Bavarian atmosphere includes sausages, radishes, and lots and lots of beer, all to be enjoyed responsibly of course! The yearly event has quickly grown to be one of the biggest on the events calendar and draws in a crowd from all over the Costa Blanca. The main events will be taking part in the huge decked out tent, which opens daily at 6pm to the public. The German themed bands will be starting an hour later to keep you in the mood. Following the success of last year’s event, it’s expected that over 10,000 people will pass through the tent flaps during the ten days. Tables can be booked however most people like to just pop along and grab one when they’re available. The event will include tasting of beers from all over Germany, but don’t worry, there will be some non-alcoholic beers in there too if you’re the designated driver. The final night of the event on the 18th will see an extra special afterhours party with Benidorm’s own Pablo Bloom who is currently doing very well on the Spanish equivalent of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ as we reported a few weeks back. This great entertainer will be joined by the ‘Prospectos’ orchestra and DJ PM-ONE to keep you dancing until the early hours. The organisers also want to let you know that all motorcyclists are more than welcome to bring their bikes on the last day of the event. The Weekly Buzz grabbed an exclusive interview with this year’s Oktoberfest

Queen who is very excited to be following in her sister’s footsteps for this role. 19 year old Chloe Jessica (not Jessia as incorrectly reported) Marriot was born here in Spain but classes herself as British as she has two British parents. She says “My sister was the Queen three years ago so it’s something I’ve always wanted to do!” Unlike many fair queens, there was no voting or canvasing, Chloe simply had to ask a friend’s mum who works for the event. “I’m looking forward to greeting the revellers every evening, but I’m most excited about receiving my crown on Wednesday, however it’ll be sad to say goodbye to the previous Oktoberfest Queen.” You can’t miss Chloe as she’ll be decked out in full Bavarian Dirni dress and apron throughout the event. Currently studying hairdressing in Benidorm, Chloe added “I don’t know what I’m going to say in my speech yet, but I know that everyone will have a good time as this great event only happens once a year”. Chloe is sure to be a great Oktoberfest Queen, although she did admit she’s not actually a fan of beer and much prefers a Gin and Fanta Lemon! ...We have the full schedule for you, please note the bank Holidays

U3A VALL DEL POP MEMBERS CELEBRATE 40+1 ANNIVERSARY

by CAROL LOCKHART - Press Officer

Richard and Cazzie Millington celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary + 1 year on 5th October. Unfortunately we missed congratulating them on their big event last year but, thanks to their daughter Julie, we were able to make up for the oversight and presented them with a bottle of bubbly and a card from the U3A

at the General Meeting on 1st October. Cazzie is Welsh and Richard from Birmingham and they met when on police training in Ryton on Dunsmore, Coventry in 1970. However, it was after they had finished their training that they met again 2 years later at a friend’s party and married in 1974. They have two children, Rob and Julie, and one 6 year old granddaughter, Lilith. They are globe trotters having lived and worked in UK, Papua New Guinea, Riyadh, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Doha. After leaving the Police Force Richard worked in the car industry as a General Manager or Consultant all over the world and he still spends time away working in the Middle East. For a short time Cazzie led the U3A Casual Choir and still sings with them when she can. She is very talented at sewing

craft and can often be found at Christmas Fairs displaying the wide variety of gifts she has made so skilfully. Cazzie made our U3A table cloth and is currently mak-

ing 100 Christmas stockings, one for every child in the Emaus homes in our area. We give them our best wishes and many more happy years together.

STACEY SOLOMON SPOTTED IN JAVEA

by CRIS WEST Three beauties were spotted last week on Javea’s popular Arenal beach, shooting a new advert for a Lookagain. co.uk, an online fashion store. Amongst the threesome was X Factor runner up Stacey Solomon who we reported last week popped into Taricks’ Gold Rush and perused the Rolex watches and took selfies with many Javea tourists. Also included in the advert was 2013’s Miss England Kirsty Heslewood who has recently been linked to dating an on-the-rebound TOWIE member, and Liverpudlian model Erin Borini who wed Premier League footballer Fabio Borini in June this year. The advert has been shot for an early 2015 release, sees the girls in various different outfits including skimpy bikinis all chosen by the fashion store with the tranquil blue of the Mediterranean sea behind them. Dialogue was thought to have been kept to a minimum and a small crowd

quickly gathered to watch the celebs in action. The private villa that overlooks the area has it’s own swimming pool for the girls to walk around and enjoy. Solomon, who chose ‘The Inbetweeners’ as her specialist subject on Celebrity Mastermind recently, will be returning to the area on the 4th of October for her appearance in the Benidorm Palace’s 2nd annual variety show.

CORTADO’S CHARITY PAELLA EVENING

by CRIS WEST

Cortado’s in the Javea port area (just behind the sports centre) will be hosting another charity paella evening following the immense popularity of the previous event which raised over €300 for the local men’s hospice. The popular day and early evening café has been going from strength-to-strength following the relatively new ownership of Debbie Clarke, who has turned Cortado’s into a ‘seen and be seen’ venue for the local residents of Javea. Whether you’re looking for a delicious coffee, a hearty English breakfast or a tasty little treat, this local community bolthole really has it all. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere brings people from all over the area to sample it’s delights and the positive reviews keep flowing in. All of the money raised at the event will be going to Cancer Care Javea, established in 1998; the registered charity helps those affected (and their families) by cancer as well as raising money for cancer research. The special evening will be taking place on the 16th of October and will feature the musical stylings of classical guitarist Alistair Morton to keep

you feeling Spanish, ‘Olé’! The Paella is being made by local Spaniard and expert chef, Carmen Alesanco who also teaches the conversation Spanish classes in the café. Your evening will include tapas and a glass of wine on arrival, all of this for just €12.50 per person! Debbie says ‘these events are always a lot of fun, and a great way to bring the Spanish back into the Expat community! There will be both meat and vegetarian paella’s available and we also have a raffle with great prizes donated by people and businesses all over Javea.’ Raffle prizes include meal vouchers for Bar Reboticas and Carole’s kitchen, hair care products and vouchers, paella lessons and even a boat trip on The Amber Star! Whether you’re an individual looking to make some new friends or you’re hosting friends and family, this is the perfect event to take them to. Cortado’s Charity Paella evening will be starting at 7pm, so book now if you want to enjoy this fantastic night evening by contacting Cortado’s on 965 79 32 87 or you can contact Debbie directly on 603 828 445

GOURMET RACE 2015 by SPENCER WILLIAMS

From the 2nd to the 12th of October, Moraira will be presenting a wide range of sporting activities and culinary offerings that are all based around the sea for the enjoyment of residents and visitors as part of the 4th annual Gourmet Race. To make this year even more special, the town has organized a ‘Gourmet Race Week’: a schedule of great activities and games for

all ages following the same sea theme as the race. Some of the events organized include: parasailing adventures, Catamaran tours (aiming to teach people the secrets of the coast), sailing, ale tasting, a fish market, a huge paddleboard race and much more. However the main focus of the event is still ‘The Gourmet Race’. This takes place on the 10th October and gets bigger every year; last year saw 20 boats take part. The boats have to sail as fast as they can around the route situated in the bay of Moraira however there’s a catch! During the race the crew have to cook a dish using a common ingredient as the main focus of the dish which is always locally caught. This year the specially chosen fish is the very tasty Red fish. There are two different categories for the race, one for sailing boats powered by the wind and the other for motorized boats, then the finished seafood dishes

are judged by a panel of experts. The idea came from the ‘Board of Public Works and Tourism’ as a new attraction for lovers of watersports and good food. There will be three prizes for the best dishes and a fourth for best presentation. The Gourmet Race starts in the morning with boats leaving every 3 minutes from 09:00 until 10:00. All boats are expected back before 13:00.

Paddle Board Race

About 80 paddlers will participate in the Second edition of the Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Race taking place this Friday (9th). There are several categories to compete in: the Elite Race which is 12km

CARELINE THEATRE PRESENTS BUGSY MALONE

by CRIS WEST

In 1976, a musical was released unlike any other where all the cast members were under the age of 16, over 1000 custard pies were thrown, the pedal cars were all custom-built by hand and cost the same price as a mini, and all the singing was dubbed by adult vocalists. Careline Theatre’s latest production of “Bugsy Malone”, a musical for all ages, also features a young cast, custard pies, a hand built car (costing consid-

erably less than a mini!), but all the songs are performed by the talented cast themselves. Directed by Lee Walker, and with choreography by Suzanna Mace, Careline Theatre’s colourful production features Dominic Baldwin as Bugsy Malone, Max Davis as Fat Sam, Paige Keen as Talullah, Emma Clay as Blousey, James Harris as Dandy Dan and Isabelle Borger as Louella, supported by a cast from Careline Kids. The young performers are

making their shows particularly special this year as they are donating proceeds to provide 100 Christmas stockings for the children of Emaus. The performances are 16 October at 8pm and 17 October at 3pm and 8pm. Tickets are 10 Euros for adults and 6 Euros for children under 12 and can be obtained from the box office on 652 294 750 or by email at bookings@carelinetheatre.com

in length, the 7km Amateur Race, and finally smaller races for the children with a mixture of distances depending on the age group. Last year about 40 individuals took part in the event, however they are expecting that to double for 2015. This event is organized by the Sailing School and ‘SUP Club Nautico de Moraira’ alongside Teulada Town Council within their programme of activities taking place around the popular ‘Gourmet Race’, which is reported in this issue of The Weekly Buzz. Everyone is invited to join, whether to take part or simply watch this fun and fabulous race, starting at 10:30am. Get yourself down to the Sailing School and La Galera dive centre (behind the gas station) in Moraira to watch or take part.

CHAD KROEGER + AVRIL LAVIGNE BACK IN THE STUDIO TOGETHER DESPITE SPLIT ust last month, it was revealed that Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and his wife, pop star Avril Lavigne, were separating after just over two years of marriage. But the split apparently hasn’t affected their working relationship. Lavigne posted a pair of Instagram photos revealing that she and Kroeger were working together on new music. The couple had previously teamed up on Lavigne’s self-titled album that was released in 2013. They initially collaborated on a song called “Let Me Go” that was released in 2013, the same year they eventually wed. In a statement released in September, it appeared as even though the pair were splitting, they were still on good terms and the fact that they are working together is further proof that their relationship remains in a good place. Lavigne posted a photo of herself wearing a cowboy hat with the caption, “YeeHaw! Writing with Chad today.” Her second photo is of Kroeger with the caption, “Back to where it all started.”

Kroeger has had some spare time on his hands this year. The vocalist and his Nickelback cohorts got off to a hot start for - 14.00 Super Gold Saturday with their No Wilden Fixed - 16.00 The Paul Baker Show 18.00 Mike Brown´s Nothing But 90´s Address 21.00 Sundown Music Mix album late 24.00 Party Anthems last year y and in 12:00 The Sunday Lie In early 2015, 14:00 The Soul & Motown Show but were 17:00 Sunday Afternoon Best Music Mix 20:00 Spencer James Airplay 40 24.00 Love Zone

forced off a massive tour in June when Kroeger was diagnosed with an intracordal cyst on his voice box that required surgery. That kept them out of their summer touring and in August the band nixed their remaining 2015 dates to allow the singer sufficient time for a full recovery.

Record Of The Week This week our Record of the week is by The Vamps with Wake up, and the video is just as special as the song. The guys appear alongside their good friend Brooklyn Beckham who assists them in pulling off a huge jam session in the video.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

CANCER

You’re pumped up and ready to go now that you’ve got the green light across the board, so display your creativity with confidence and let others know you’re au fait with financial matters too. You’re about to be centre stage, so shine.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

Across

Down

1 Panic had strange drawback (8) 6 Give weapons to some regular militia (3) 9 Pinched an item of clothing (5) 10 A Greek mountain could be so lumpy! Scribble Pad

LEO

Keep your eyes and ears open this week as information flows fast and free as others can’t help but gush about a situation they’re involved in. You could turn this to your advantage by being in the right place at the right time to make a killing.

VIRGO (August 24th-Sept 23rd)

VIRGO

You’ll find yourself disagreeing with people at the start of the week, for no apparent reason except that they annoy you, but as things move ahead, life becomes easier and your tolerance level balances out. Try to minimise stress. Breathe deeply.

LIBRA (Sept 24th-Oct 23rd)

LIBRA

Others only see the practical professional side of you at times, so they find it hard to picture you letting your hair down and having a laugh. This may be the week to prove that this is true. Throw caution to the wind and have fun. It’s good to laugh.

SCORPIO (Oct 24th-Nov 22nd)

SCORPIO

You’re very sociable this week and find it easy to get on with just about everyone, but you can be somewhat distracted if something or someone catches your eye. Don’t buy into any negativity in the air or you’ll find it hard to escape it later.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 23rd-Dec 21st) I would say there’s a new love interest on the horizon for you, or they’re already there, but because you’re playing your cards close to your chest these days, others won’ t get the chance to meet this secret lover until you decide otherwise. Canny SAGITTARIUS you.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22nd-Jan 20th)

CAPRICORN

Don’t allow anyone to rush you into making decisions you’d rather think through, as taking time sorting out a plan of action before anything starts, is better than jumping in at the deep end, making a mistake then backtracking to the beginning.

AQUARIUS (Jan 21st-Feb 19th) Your to do list is growing by the minute, so work out exactly what you want to achieve this week and see how much you can accomplish. Telling someone special you love them should be top of your list. The rest can follow when you’ve AQUARIUS got time.

PISCES (Feb 20th-March 20th)

PISCES

Whether it’s your work and career or love and your social life, everything seems to be coming together and you’ll feel you’re making forward progress. Take time to tie up loose ends in both areas so that things will be running smoothly by Christmas.

HEART PALPITATIONS

Palpitations are a feeling of a rapid or irregular heartbeat, a sensation that most of us will have experienced at some time. Your heart can feel like it is ‘racing’, ‘thumping’ or ‘pounding’. Some people have a sensation of palpitations just when their healthy heart is beating especially fast, during exercise or in anxiety. However, palpitations in older people are often caused by a heart problem such as abnormal rhythms of the heart. The most

common abnormal heart rhythm is atrial fibrillation (fast irregular contractions of chambers of the heart known as the atria). The overlying cause may be coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis of the arteries supplying the heart muscle) an overactive thyroid gland or even depression. In younger, fitter people, palpitations are most often caused by stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine and alcohol, or by stress. Some drug treatments can cause palpitations as a side effect.

Because palpitations cause an unusually fast heart beat, they can cause the pumping action of the heart to become inefficient thus causing delivery of oxygen to the body’s tissues may fall. In turn, this leads to symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest tightness or a feeling of light-headiness. Should any person be

suffering from a sensation of palpitations they should see their Family Doctor who will be able to diagnose the cause. A simple test called an E.C.G. (heart trace) will probably be advised. This is a painless, inexpensive test than can provide the doctor with a lot of information about the activity of your heart.

Heavy Drinker? - Return to Normal Drinking

No one likes a drunk. At best, the person may become a little drunk at a party, and we excuse it. At worst, the person may be regularly drunk, embarrass themselves and everyone within hearing distance. Everyone knows that their drinking is out of control except the drinker. This type of drinking is not carried out for pleasure; it is compulsive drinking, or drinking with a purpose. The good news is that it is not necessary for people to give up alcohol completely. It is possible for them to return to normal drinking like the rest of us. Reducing the alcohol intake is not easy. If consumption has reached a point of physical addiction, a return to normality must be carried out carefully. If the body has adapted to the large amounts, it must readapt to lower levels. This can be carried out rapidly but is not nice and may require medical supervision, or reduction can be carried out gently. The aim is for the person to return to normal drinking which is moderate social drinking and moderate drinking with meals. Partners of heavy drinkers usually want zero intake but this is often not realistic or even necessary. There are many reasons why people want to reduce their alcohol consumption. The main ones are: to improve their health, increase their lifespan, improve their quality of life, keep their job, keep their partner, save money, and be safe again.

The stages are as follows: 1 Decide on what alcohol consumption is acceptable. This may be times of day, amount per day, occasions when it is acceptable. This must be decided by the person, not by the partner, doctor or therapist. 2 Identify the reasons for drinking to excess. Common reasons given include: escape from life, boredom, helps with communication when shy, helps with communication if oppressed by someone, celebration or reward, social, with meal, to help relax, to help sleep or generally a bad habit. 3 Deal with each of the causes of drinking so that there are new and better ways of coping with the problems. 4 Monitor the drinking by recognising the reason for having each drink. 5 Drinking reduces naturally and establishes a habit of drinking less. 6 Remove the thought that drinking helps deal with problems.

There is no magic to the program; it simply recognises that some people use alcohol as a coping mechanism and they need a better one. They can then drink socially or at meal times without a driving need or craving to keep on drinking.

PUZZLE ANSWERS

There is a program to return to normal drinking. It does not require turning to God, becoming a Buddhist, being locked up in a clinic, or drinking two gallons of fizzy gunk every day. What it requires is a

decision to return to normal drinking and a willingness to work through a program to make it happen.

BECKHAM AND FERGIE Rooney Doubt For Englands TO BE RE-UNITED Last Qualifier

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will manage a Great Britain and Ireland XI captained by David Beckham in a charity match next month. The team will take on a World XI captained by France legend Zinedine Zidane at Old Trafford on 14 November. Former Chelsea, Real Madrid

and AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti will manage the World XI, while Italian Pierluigi Collina will referee the match.Money raised from ticket sales will be donated to children’s charity Unicef. Ferguson, 73, retired in 2013, having won 38 trophies during 26 years in charge at Old Trafford. For-

mer England captain Beckham made 394 appearances over an 11-year period for United under Ferguson before he was sold to Real Madrid in 2003, four months after the Scot accidentally kicked a boot that struck the ex-Old Trafford midfielder above the left eye. Ferguson was also critical of his Beckham in his autobiography, but Beckham told BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw that he had personally called the Scot to ask him to take part. “Everyone knows I retired three years ago and I never thought I’d be getting my boots out again and playing,” said Beckham. “Football is such a powerful tool and to have Zidane on the field, Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti in the stands, I think people are going to love it.” The 40-year-old, a Unicef ambassador, added: “This match gives me the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and vital funds to help reach the children who need it most.”

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is a doubt for England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia on Friday (9 October) after he picked up a knock during the Red Devils’ Premier League loss to Arsenal on Sunday (4 October). The striker missed training on Tuesday afternoon, as the rest of the Three Lions squad prepared for the game at their training base in St George’s Park. ”Captain Wayne Rooney, first-time call-up Danny Ings and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey did not train after

picking up knocks for their clubs at the weekend,” a statement on the Football Association (FA) official site read. The England medical team will assess the striker’s condition through the week before making a decision regarding his participation in the game on Friday. The England international is set to be honoured ahead of the game against Estonia at Wembley after he surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton to become England’s leading goal-scorer.

nner World Cup Plaside! Pull Out In

KLOPP FOR THE KOPP Speculation has long been rife that both Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti were major candidates for the top job at Anfield but reports are saying that Ancelotti has ruled himself out and wants to continue his break away from football, however rumours are flying that a new manager could be in place as soon as Friday. The Mirror have reported a deal has been agreed with Klopp, and will meet with the club owners — Fenway Sports

Group — “within the next 24 hours” before being unveiled. The Guardian similarly report a deal between Liverpool and Klopp is close, with the 48-year-old expected to fly to Merseyside on Thursday to complete the move. Klopp, who won two league titles with Borussia Dortmund, was more coy when asked about his interest in the role. Asked by a reporter from German newspaper Bild while attending a function in Leverk-

usen, Klopp said of the Liverpool links: “There’s nothing to say. Neither a definite yes nor a definite no. I’m going home now.” However, it is reported there is one unwavering condition to his interest: he must be given full control of transfers. Klopp will reportedly not allow his influence to be tarnished by not having the final say over who he recruits.
