Visiting Brazil Successfull start-up in Rio de Janeiro In July, it was necessary for us to make a fast trip to Brazil to follow up on an important tender. On that occasion, Kurt Skov seized the opportunity to pay a visit to our Brazilian offices in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. We are now finally settled in our magnificent newly renovated facilities on 34th floor in the business district of Rio de Janeiro. With a beautiful view of the city and the bay, the office can boast the best view in Blue Water even though we here in Esbjerg think that our view of the port and the island of Fanø is very special. We are now fully operational on both telephone, fax and mail.

Oil Exhibition in Rio de Janeiro Brazil is experiencing rapid development, and the oil industry in particular sees an exceptional growth. With the opening of our office in Rio de Janeiro, Blue Water has established our involvement in the development, and we have great expectations for Brazil in the future. In September, the exhibition, Rio Oil & Gas, took place for the 15th time and Blue Water was represented by colleagues from Rio, Esbjerg and Brest. The exhibition was a success and we made contact with several potential clients and met an even larger number of existing clients. In total the exhibition attracted 53000 visitors from more than 51 countries, which is an increase of more than 33% compared to the last time in 2008. During the exhibition, Blue Water was cosponsor for a reception held in connection with His Royal Highness Prince Joachim’s and Her Royal Highness Princess Marie’s visit in Brazil. At the reception, we had the pleasure of meeting them both and to do a little bit of promotion for Blue Water. It did not result in an actual booking from the Prince - but you never know! 2

Construction of new Headquarters in Esbjerg MT Højgaard a/s won the bidding round and the general contract for our new headquarters in Esbjerg. Ølgod Construction is the architect and Niras the consulting engineers on the project. The office building will be in six levels totaling app. 10,000 m2, of which Blue Water initially will occupy 4 floors. The two top floors are expected to be let out. The construction proceeds according to plan and the shell is expected to be completed at the turn of the year so that we can put up the roof tree in mid-January. It is an extremely busy time with many construction meetings and decisions to be taken. Allan Junge and Carsten Steffensen in particular are deeply involved and spend many hours on the project. We are anxiously following the construction outside our windows and look forward to moving into our new office next summer. Our new address is Trafikhavnskaj 9.

“All under one Roof” – A unique offer to the Offshore Wind Industry
The combination of 24/7 port agency, stevedoring and general transport services under one roof is a unique offer to the offshore wind industry. While most shipping companies solely focus on the transport set-up, Blue Water offers 24/7 port agency services and expertise within customs and authority documentation, berth and harbour setup, crew services, fuel, lub and fresh water supply and general port costs along with our massive stevedore experience. This, combined with our worldwide transport network, offering transport of mob/ demob equipment, ship’s supplies and spare parts to/from any destination, is a unique set-up offering owners and operators one point of contact for all port and marine related services. We have proved that we have the capacity and first and foremost the local knowledge and global understanding to handle total solutions and cover the clients’ full requirements. With more than 500 port calls and 210 stevedoring ope-
rations in Danish ports per year, we have the expertise, says Søren Stougaard, the Manager of the Agency and Chartering department in Esbjerg. Blue Water’s Port Eervices: • 24/7 standby services • Port agency • Customs clearance and authority documentation of vessels, cargo and crew • Crew change assistance including meet & greet, accommodation, transport to/from hotel and airport, Schengen visa, helicopter transport etc. • ISPS clearance • More than 200 subcontractors performing all marine related services such as welding, grinding, electricity work etc. • Fresh water, fuel, lub oil supply • Garbage and sludge removal • Stevedoring (loading/unloading of equipment, cargo and supplies) • Cranage • Terminal handling and storage
Transport of Helideck from Esbjerg to Holland The wind power industry sees continuous development, a fact which is not only felt in terms of wind turbine transports. Many subsuppliers have to keep in tune with the development, including companies which specialise in the erection/service of offshore wind turbines. One of Blue Water’s many offshore clients in Esbjerg, Denmark, was assigned the rebuilding of a jack-up barge (JB 114) at Keppel Verolme Ship Yard in Rotterdam. For this project, Blue Water was assigned the task of transporting a helideck with a diameter of app 22 metres, 3.5 metres in height and a weight of 35 tons for attachment on to the barge. Due to the large dimensions, the helideck was shipped on deck of a chartered vessel. When carrying out project transports, where precise coordination is critical, Blue Water is always represented by our own staff during loading and unloading. The unloading in Rotterdam was carried out using a 400 ton floating crane from the crane company Bonn & Mess. The transport assignment demanded some coordination and involved several of Blue Water’s many departments including projects, chartering, terminal and stevedoring - all went according to plan.
Blue Water Summit Meeting 17 - 19 September 2010, Blue Water’s general managers and key personnel from the entire world assembled in Esbjerg, reviving an old tradition of information sharing combined with social networking. Blue Water’s Management hosted the event with both external and internal presentations from e.g. all support functions and large business areas.
4
With assistance from the IT and Marketing departments, a comprehensive programme was offered during the three days in Esbjerg - including themed presentations, strategies, workshops and specific business area groups, including business development, and lectures. This set-up enabled each manager to seek out information on subjects and issues
of individual interest. Workshops by Blue Water’s support functions, such as Accounting, Human Resources, Purchasing and Claims, attracted many visits, giving the opportunity of show & tell in open dialogue. The event was a great success, and everyone had a great time both professionally and socially.

Smyril Line changing Port of Call in Denmark During the recent two years, Smyril Line’s ferry M/F “Norröna” has called at Esbjerg 9 months a year and Hanstholm during the 3 summer months. As from 2.10, however, the timetable has changed and in future the ferry will be calling at Hirtshals all year round. The decision to change port of call from Esbjerg and Hanstholm to Hirthals is due to various advantages to Smyril Line. In terms of weather, navigational conditions are better in Hirtshals than Hanstholm, and Hirtshals offers better facilities for passengers than Esbjerg. In addition, a shorter distance to the Faroes and a motorway all the way to the port make Hirtshals an ideal port of call for passengers and cargo transport. The freight company, Smyril Blue Water, has at its disposal the freight capacity on board M/F “Norröna”, which is the fastest ro/pax ferry on the North Atlantic with its 21-knot sailing speed. M/F “Norröna” sails all year between Seydisfjordur/Iceland, Torshavn/the Faroes and Hirtshals/Denmark. With its own offices in Reykjavik and Seydisfjordur on Iceland, Torshavn on the Faroes and in Hirtshals, Denmark, Smyril Blue Water offers worldwide transport of all types of cargo to and from the Faroes and Iceland. Smyril Blue Water operates 150 reefer and curtain trailers in its North Atlantic network.
As Hirtshals will be the future all-year port of call for Smyril Line and M/F “NORRÖNA”, Smyril Blue Water has decided to centralise its entire operation under one roof as from 1 November. In connection with the change of port, Smyril Blue Water is building a new 400 m2 terminal with loading ramps next to the existing warehouse facilities. With this new building, which is expected to be completed in the beginning of November, Smyril Blue Water will have 1,700 m2 warehouse facilities at its disposal in the port of Hirtshals. With Captain Henrik Hammer at the helm, the M/F “Norröna” sailed elegantly into the port and moored by the North Sea Terminal and was welcomed with a bouquet of flowers by the port director. During the 6-hour lay time, handling of 150 trailers and a number of selfpropelled units including 25 new cars to the Faroe Islands took place. The entire operation was successful, and we are proud of this first performance.
Meeting with PD Ports In October, Niels Tolstrup and Brian Sørensen of Blue Water Esbjerg went to England to visit PD Ports who run the ports of Hartlepool and Teesport. The purpose of the visit was to discuss future cooperation possibilities and see relevant ports for wind turbine import.
New facilities in Hirtshals
We also seized the opportunity to meet with JDR, one of the leading suppliers of cables to the oil and wind industry, and get an idea of their impressive facilities.

Port Extension in Rømø, Denmark On 8.8, Kurt Skov was chosen to be one of the 3 people to cut the first sod to mark the start of the port extension in Havneby on the island of Rømø. The chairman of the port committee, the mayor of Tønder and Kurt Skov were chosen to have this honour. Being a local shipping company, Blue Water Rømø was entrusted with the discharging of 1200 tons sheet piles for the new berth as well as the agency for the vessel chartered for the job. This was the first port call at Rømø since the opening of the office.

SIAL Paris 2010 As usual, Blue Water participated in one of the world’s biggest food fairs – SIAL in Paris – which is held every other year. This year, however, we had our own stand which was part of the USAPEEC Pavilion. USAPEEC is an American trade association for poultry and egg exporters. It is exactly in the USA that Blue Water sees a very positive development on export of reefer cargo. We handle app. 400
containers per month as well as several break-bulk vessels fully loaded with frozen chickens. Many new fine contacts were established and we also met several of our loyal customers during the exhibition. Blue Water’s reefer network was represented by the offices in Brazil, USA, Ireland, Spain, France, Holland and Denmark.
During SIAL in Paris, we seized the opportunity to celebrate the fine cooperation with our good customer, Hakan Agro DMCC, and the fact that we have reached a milestone. During the last couple of years, we have loaded more than 120,000 tons frozen poultry in break-bulk from the USA to different destinations worldwide. Blue Water Brest is in charge of the chartering of the vessels and the various Blue Water offices have a very efficient cooperation with Hakan on container export from the USA, South America and Europe. The small celebration took place at Icebar in Paris, where we felt like frozen chickens for half an hour in 15 degrees below zero. Luckily we were offered a drink to keep ourselves warm. We look forward to further developing our cooperation with Hakan in the next many years.
SMM ONS
Offshore Northern Seas, Stavanger
On this year’s ONS exhibition in Stavanger, Blue Water was again represented with their own small stand as part of the Danish collective stand. The exhibition set a record with 49,735 visitors as well as the exhibitors. This offered plenty of opportunity to have a good chat with existing and new contacts – both at the exhibition and at the different evening functions. Blue Water’s exhibition team arranged transports to and from the exhibition and had a busy time both before and after the exhibition.
6
As usual, Anne Skov from Blue Water Esbjerg met a celebrity. Last time it was the Norwegian crown prince. This time it was Kevin Costner himself, who participated in the exhibition to promote his machine used for depollution of seawater in connection with oil spills – most recently Deepwater Horizon. Blue Water was represented at the exhibition by Sonja Byfield from Aberdeen and Thomas Bek and Anne Skov from Esbjerg.
Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology Hamburg Once again, SMM was on the agenda in September. SMM is the world’s biggest marine exhibition for both shipyards and subsuppliers to the yards, shipping lines etc. Despite the time of crisis, well over 80 exhibitors participated again this year in section B4, at the Danish pavilion (app. 2,000 m2). Blue Water was responsible for all logistics – including transport to/ from the exhibition, handling of empties (packing of same took place in a big tent outside B4), unpacking and packing of a large amount of the customers’ equipment. Last but not least, our competent canteen “chef” in Esbjerg, Elisabeth, and her family had made the trip to Hamburg to make app. 8,000 open sandwiches during the 4 exhibition days. The exhibition was well visited, and we believe that the exhibitors were very satisfied, when they returned home after 4-5 days in Hamburg.

China Wind Power Again this year, Blue Water Shipping was represented with our own stand in the centrally located Danish Pavilion at ”China Wind Power”, the largest exhibition of its kind in China. A record of 28 Danish companies participated in the exhibition during the days of 13 - 15 October 2010 - as always organised by the Wind Energy Group of Danish Exporters’ Association. The exhibition has expanded considerably since it was first held in 2008 and accommodates today 600 exhibitors. The Danish Pavilion was opened in style by the Danish ambassador in Beijing, Friis Arne Petersen, and this year, Blue Water was represented by our offices in Esbjerg, Singapore, Shanghai and Qingdao. This gave us ample opportunity to take part in discussions on global wind turbine transports with Chinese and overseas customers alike. The Danish Pavilion was a natural centre of interest even without the Little Mermaid, who reached world fame during Expo 2010 in China. Danish products attracted great attention from the Chinese audience.

Husum Wind, Husum About a week after SMM in Hamburg, the big wind exhibition in Husum opened. With the increased globalisation, this exhibition is a meeting place for suppliers, production companies and service providers alike. It provides a perfect setting for information sharing, meeting new business partners and consolidating existing contacts. Blue Water Shipping participated in the exhibition with representatives from our offices in Denmark, France, Spain, Singapore and China. The Danish Exporters’ Association’s collective stand (800 m2) was as usual a great success. Blue Water was responsible for a large part of the logistics to and from the exhibition – as well as the unpacking and packing. Elisabeth, from our canteen in Esbjerg, had just enough time to get home from
SMM in Hamburg and wash her clothes before she had to go to Husum to make another load of open sandwiches. This year’s exhibition turned out to be a record with 950 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors from 70 countries, and extra tents had to be put up for the event. It was a big challenge for the local exhibition forwarder involving several problems. However, everything was solved in the end and the exhibition went smoothly. Rikke Berg from the Danish Exporters’ Association has already placed a booking for 1,400 m2 for the next Husum Wind in 2012. As you can see, the exhibition activities are booming. We hereby wish to thank Blue Water’s exhibition team and canteen for a super performance at both exhibitions.

AN-12 Charters to Trinidad
Operations in the oil & gas industry require special and highly efficient transport solutions as the client often has large sums of money at stake. Rapid action and solid execution are necessary for the client in order to continue the operation. Blue Water Houston was recently involved in such an assignment, as a local client required 30 tons of offshore excavation equipment transported for a job in Trinidad. Logistics were solved through the charter of two Antonov AN-12 aircrafts from Houston to Port-of-Spain in Trinidad. Each aircraft has a loading capacity of 15 tons, which made them ideally suited for the equipment. Arriving in Houston around 4 p.m., the aircrafts took off again four hours later heading for Trinidad. Naturally Blue Water Houston had local crew present in the airport to supervise the loading procedure and to ensure a problem-free operation. “It was an extremely interesting assignment, as both aircrafts were parked side by side and loaded simultaneously”, our colleagues from Houston explains. The transport assignment was handled and completed without delay and problems of any kind. 7

M/V ”Royal Mariner” During my visit to Nuuk in October, one of our loyal long-time clients called at the port, reports Ole Ulriksen from Blue Water Aalborg. Andrew Daley, skipper and owner of the good ship M/V ”Royal Mariner” has been calling at Nuuk every year since 1996. Blue Water takes care of the clearance and discharging of the ship and transport of the ship’s cargo from Nuuk via Aalborg to the Far East. Administration is taken care of by the company Daley Brothers in St. John’s in Newfoundland. The relationship has become almost family-like, as we have visited both the company in St. John’s and the family home. Furthermore Andrew’s sons have for several seasons worked on board the “Royal Mariner”. It was indeed a pleasure to welcome Andrew back in Nuuk, concludes Ole Ulriksen.

Sales Meeting in Aalborg In late October, one of the 4 annual sales meetings for the Danish sales team was held in Aalborg. As Greenland is one of our very important activities, it was inspiring to see Grønlandshavnen (the Greenland Port) in Aalborg and feel the activity there. Other topics of the day included the working day challenges: a new year is near, and a lot of quotations need to be updated and renegotiated – information about new initiatives (e.g. our concept for handling and distribution of shoes etc.). But the meeting was also a breather, among colleagues, from a usually hectic working day. Our sales team has in 2010 achieved extraordinary results in the form of many new and interesting clients around our many offices. So there was every reason to finish the day in our client, Weber’s, showroom and kitchen “Grilleriet”. Our sales team as well as Ole Ulriksen, Pia Skytte, Per Holm Nørgaard and Carsten Eskildsen participated in the event – a Over the summer, there was hectic activity in the port of Nuuk. On 7.7, we acted as port agent for no less than six ships: M/S “Princess”, “Meredian”, “Stålbas”, “Thor Supplier”, “Bergen Surveyor” and “Norma Mary”. “Norma Mary”, which we unloaded, is a shrimp trawler, whereas the remaining 5 ships are oil exploration vessels. In the picture you can see the M/S “Princess” to which we delivered provisions and spare parts until 01.00 a.m. With six ships in port, we more or less occupied the entire dock area in Nuuk and kept several balls in the air. 8
Couager Helicopters Blue Water Copenhagen was requested to fly a petrol pump to Ilulissat in Greenland as an urgent delivery for a helicopter. The pump was sent by air from Canada, via Luxembourg for oncarriage by truck to Denmark and from here with first priority by air to Ilulissat. The crucial point was the big dimensions of the pump (exceeding 7 cbm), which made loading on to Air Greenland’s airbus 330-200 impossible. This type of aircraft is normally used on this air route. While the pump was on the way from Luxembourg Saturday night by road, different solutions were discussed in Denmark with Air Greenland. Finally six people managed to load the pump on to the aircraft by hand and with a great deal of willpower. The pump left Canada Saturday morning and was delivered, via Luxembourg and Denmark, in Ilulissat Monday afternoon.
competition in using various types of Weber Grills (barbecues). The evening also included wine tasting and expert cooking guidance from a professional chef and wine waiter. All the food – from starter to dessert – was prepared on a Weber Grill, and every dish and team were judged by the appearance, taste, teamwork, hygiene etc. Now we understand what pressure the kitchen staff is under to get the food ready on time.
Every year, we handle the cruise ship M/S “Delphin” in Greenland. In addition to the usual agency work, such as PAX Tax, tourist contact, waste, oil, water etc., we arranged a football match this year between “Delphin’s” crew – in football terms “Juventus Delphin” – and a company team from the local fire station. “Juventus Delphin” has for many years played high level football and can among other things boast a world championship among crews from the cruise industry. And “Juventus Delphin”did win the match 2-0.

Kazakhstan Kazakhstan has one of the world’s largest oil reserves. With the gigantic Kashagan oil field among others, Kazakhstan is expected to be among the 8 biggest oil producing countries in the world within the next 10 years. Due to Kazakhstan’s geographical location and the locations of the oil fields, logistics involves a lot of challenges. Since 1999, Blue Water has been represented with our own office in the town of Aktau by the Caspian Sea. Every day, the staff of 14 take up the challenge to ensure that our clients’ equipment arrives safely or is shipped safely to worldwide destinations. The atmosphere at the office is very good – real team spirit – and the staff appreciate that the client has to be in focus. In addition to import and export, the team arranges clearance of more than
145 ships, barges and oil rigs every year. This is a very important activity for Blue Water Aktau, and a field in which we truly consider ourselves specialists. Furthermore we take care of the customs formalities in Kazakhstan for our clients. As one of few international freight forwarders, we have our own licence to perform customs clearance, which is an essential part of the daily business. Blue Water Kazakhstan has either on their own or through different partners been involved in large projects in the region. With support from the other Blue Water offices in the Caspian region or the rest of the world, no project is too big, and great activity is expected in this area in the future. The countries around the Caspian Sea has for many years been among our focus areas and will in future be an area of investment for Blue Water.
MRI Scan Systems to the Middle East We have previously brought an article about Blue Water Amsterdam’s transports of scan systems to the Middle East. The scanners are developed and manufactured by Siemens AG in Erlangen, Germany and sold by their official partner and our long-time customer Advantex BV in Eindhoven. Shipment of the scan systems – weighing 8000-14,500 kgs each - is planned in close cooperation with Siemens’ logistics department, who delivers the scan systems from their distribution centre in Forcheim directly to our warehouse. The entire process from collection at the factory to delivery at the hospital takes about 10 days. So far, we have handled 17 charters, roughly one every month, and an additional number is anticipated in the near future, explains Bob Tisserand from Schiphol Airport.

Flight Simulators from England to Azerbaijan Blue Water Baku and Blue Water Tbilisi were subcontracted by Allport UK to take part in the transportation and delivery of two complete flight simulators to the high value of USD 29,121,455.00. The simulators were consigned to Allport’s very important client, Azerbaijan Hava Yollari (Azerbaijan Airline), for the State Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan. Allport UK shipped the equipment from the UK to Poti port in Georgia. Blue Water in Tbilisi arranged the unloading from the vessel, took care of transit formalities in the port and chartered the Russian sea/river-going vessel to transport the equipment through the Volgo-Don Canal to the Caspian Sea. On arrival in Baku, Blue Water Baku took overall control of the ship’s agency, unloading of the vessel, customs clearance, loading of the oversize cargo (7.65 x 4.40 x 4.07m) on to lowbed trucks and transportation from the port to the con-
struction site in the airport. Full attention was paid to the transportation by road, not only due to the size, but also due to the sensitivity of the electronic equipment that could be destroyed even by slight jolting on the road. Fortunately, the professional drivers ensured the safe delivery of all equipment. Blue Water Baku supplied crane and forklifts on site
and Blue Water’s staff took care of the unloading of the equipment from trucks and containers. Allport’s team of experts and engineers were already waiting on site to start the assembling and engineering work. Altogether it was a remarkable project showing the seamless and well-coordinated teamwork of Allport and Blue Water Shipping.

Visit from South Africa On 30.06, Ray Burgess of Pioneer Freight, our long-time partner on sea and airfreight in South Africa, paid a visit to Blue Water Copenhagen. Pioneer Freight, with a staff of 50 spread over the head office in Cape Town and branch offices in Durban and Johannesburg, is an all-round freight forwarding company, but considers transport for film production to be their niche activity. During the meeting, at which Stig Egelund and Jesper Nielsen from Blue Water Copenhagen and Kenneth Falkesgaard Hansen from Blue Water Esbjerg participated, sales, cooperation and development were discussed as well as the World Cup.
Naming Ceremony at Cobelfret The shipping line, Cobelfret, is a valued business partner for Blue Water and the Port of Esbjerg because of the weekly ferry link between Esbjerg/Denmark and Zeebrugge/Belgium. 24.9 was a red letter day for the shipping line, CLdN, and Cobelfret as two impressive new ferries were named on that day in Zeebrugge. Niels Tolstrup, Claus Bæk, Henrik Miche Pedersen and Kurt Skov from Blue Water
took the opportunity to meet with their contacts at Cobelfret. First, a meeting with the top men, Christian and Michel Cigrang at the head office in Antwerp, then a meeting with the heads of the container activities, Freddy Brauwers and Yves Strubbe, in Brugge and finally a meeting with Line Manager Martin Storme in Zeebrugge. However, the festive naming ceremony of the two modern super ferries was of course the icing on the cake.

As from 15 November, Blue Water Shipping and SBS Worldwide have made an agency agreement covering all sea and airfreight activities for industrial cargo between the Nordic countries and the USA. The agreement manifests both companies’ strategic focus on a strengthened global network, so that we can continue to offer competitive transport and logistic solutions supported by strong representation in the US and the Nordic countries respectively. In future, Blue Water will be representing SBS Worldwide in the Nordic countries and SBS Worldwide will be representing Blue Water Shipping in the USA. Our opportunities and geographic coverage in the USA will increase substantially, enabling us to offer a wider range of supply chain management solutions (sea/air, return transport, distribution and other added value services). Experienced and service-minded employees are ready to serve our clients. In future, Blue Water Shipping’s four US offices (New York, Houston, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale) will be devoting
their attention to activities within food logistics, project cargo, wind turbine transports, oil & gas, cruise logistics and contracts for the Danish Defence.

Survey Vessel at Brest Blue Water Brest was appointed agent for the survey vessel “Fugro Grauss” when she called at Brest on 3.9 to embark surveyors, carry out crew change and receive equipment. S/V “Fugro Grauss”, which is owned by Fugro Survey in Germany, has 12 crew members and 14 surveyors on board. After one day in port, the vessel went to sea to carry out survey soundings in order to trace a cable route from the western part of Brittany to the West African coast, a distance of 13,000km. Alcatel Lucent
will start the installation of an optic fibre cable in 2012.
Visiting Partners in Germany and Belgium From 11-14 November, Bent Weidinger and Carsten Eskildsen/Blue Water Esbjerg called on some of our European partners. Bent Weidinger is, in addition to being our new General Manager in Kolding, also responsible for Blue Water’s traffic to Germany, Holland and Belgium. “On the first day, we were accompanied by Poul Aarre from Blue Water Aarhus, when visiting a big German freight forwarding company to discuss the possibilities for a conventional agency cooperation. We had a good meeting which will hopefully result in an agreement. Next day, we paid a visit to Groep Essers, Blue Water’s agent in Belgium. We spent an informal and extremely pleasant evening in the company of Guido Van Dessel and Chris Vansummeren. Essers are leaders in the market for logistic solutions in Belgium. They have large terminals filled with cargo - in and outgoing – more than enough to keep their own 1100 trucks busy around Europe. They do not only use trucks, but also complete trains between Romania and Belgium – very impressive.
Blue Water has for many years enjoyed a cooperation with ILN in Germany. ILN is a network of more than 150 medium-size German freight forwarding companies operating services throughout Germany with 24/48-hour delivery. ILN has its office in Sinzig close to Bonn. We were given a warm welcome by Hubert Staroske, who told us that ILN has done well the last couple of years despite the decreasing volumes on all destinations. They can now feel the wheels turning again in Germany, and they have an optimistic view of the future. During our visit, we also met ILN’s new partner in Spain and the Day-to-Day Manager Christian Rautenberg. On the last day of our trip, we met with the British company Palletways. For the occasion, Michael Poder joined our team to discuss pallet transport to/from Holland, England and Denmark with Palletways, who have opened a branch on the Continent, in Nijmegen, Holland”.

Increase in activities at Blue Water Bremen On 1 October 2010, Blue Water Shipping in Germany expanded by acquiring the sea freight division of STUHRSPED Logistik & Spedition GmbH. STUHRSPED Logistik & Spedition was founded in July 1994. The ocean division, which has been acquired by Blue Water Shipping, is specialised in transport of timber to and from overseas markets as well as warehousing and customs clearance. With the acquisition of Stuhrsped, Blue Water strengthens its market position and broadens its product portfolio in Germany. The Merger adds another segment to Blue Water’s business area viz. focus on the timber industry.
Extending Cooperation with Færch
Heidi Betina Hansen and Susanne Eskildsen, our new “in-house” colleagues at R. Færch Plast A/S For almost 15 years, Blue Water Shipping has had a good cooperation with R. Færch Plast A/S, Holstebro on logistics solutions for several countries - England in particular and now also deliveries from Færch Plast in the Czech Republic to the whole of Europe. In this respect, we are pleased to announce that we are moving even closer to Færch through the employment of two long-time Færch employees who work in the office in Holstebro already. In this way, Blue Water Shipping will have its own staff at Færch and be able to act as a close business partner to a greater extent than today. The extended cooperation gives us the opportunity to bring in new ideas and thoughts, explains Project Manager Michael Poder Hansen who is in charge of Blue Water’s traffic to/from the UK. 11

Introduction Week for Trainees - 2010 20-24 September, 25 promising young people – who have all started their career in Blue Water this year - assembled for an introduction seminar in Esbjerg. As in previous years, it was a long, hard week with an enormous amount of information. Rasmus, forwarding trainee in Padborg, reports: The Trainee Intro-Week in Esbjerg is for sure a success. The fact was established after an evaluation by all participating trainees and Aase and Lone, who are responsible for the seminar. When we arrived in Esbjerg Monday morning, hardly any of us knew each other or knew much about Blue Water for that matter. When we left Esbjerg Friday afternoon, things looked completely different. We had now stayed one week at the youth hostel in Esbjerg, made frequent use of the games room there and had become really close. Every day, we spent at the head office from 0800-1600 hours. The different directors, a trainee and a colleague who has been stationed abroad told us about Blue Water, about their responsibilities and experiences. We also worked together in groups, asked
questions and solved a couple of problems – e.g. in the dangerous goods lesson. The evenings were spent socializing. Among other things we visited a local bar together. Tuesday, Lone had arranged a boot camp in a local fitness centre, which was a great success. Wednesday, we watched our trainee colleague, Esben from Blue Water Esbjerg, play football on Varde IF’s team against Brøndby IF. A very successful experience as Varde unexpectedly defeated Brøndby. In keeping with tradition, something special had to be arranged for Thursday evening. Esbjerg’s trainees had therefore arranged bowling and dinner followed by a night in town. Friday started at 0900 hours, and we spent the day in good hands with Leo Oehenschlæger, who really knew how to motivate all of us tired trainees with his presentation of a positive working day. We all agreed that it has been a fabulous week. We have really come to know each other and at the same time, we have received a lot of useful information. To the future trainees in Blue Water, I can warmly recommend the trainee week and the stay at the youth hostel. It gives a closeknit team, which we will all benefit from in future.
Blue Water Oslo approved Carrier for State-owned Companies in Norway Blue Water Oslo has been approved as carrier for a number of companies (see illustration) owned by the Norwegian state. Normally tenders need to be invited for such transports – minimum 3 companies. We are sure this new approval will generate regular assignments as well as ad hoc inquiries for special transports among other things, explains Geir Sund. Furthermore we will try to promote ourselves as house forwarder offering all kinds of customs clearance and documentations. 12
13 – 15 September, a meeting was held in the Cruise & Marine Logistic Network group. This time at our partner Southampton Freight Services in Southampton, UK. Furthermore we met our common client, Carnival UK/Cunard, and Mark Wilson and Ian Brooks gave the whole network group a tour of their fantastic building. We hereby thank Mark Wilson and Ian Brooks and the entire Negus family for a fantastic stay
Victor Award On the morning of Wednesday 22.9, Kurt Skov was to have a meeting with some local politicians regarding different port matters – or so he thought. Imagine his surprise when the local “world press” crowded through the doors to witness the positive award of Club Victor (former local radio station) being presented for the fourth time – and this time to Kurt Skov. Kurt was awarded the prize for his great commitment in the trade and industry as well as in the cultural life of Esbjerg and the entire region, as town councillor Karen Baungaard expressed it. A cheque for DKK 10,000 accompanied the honour and has now been invested in new interior decoration of our Blue Water Arena sky box – paintings of some of the sports enthusiastically followed and sponsored by Blue Water.

Heri Village Hospital A few years ago, we came in touch with Morten Øster who is a retired consultant and surgeon from Tønder. Since 2007, Morten has spent 3 months every year at the little Heri Village Hospital, which lies in the western corner of Tanzania towards the border of Burundi. Morten Øster is a very enthusiastic and fascinating person who likes to put things into practice. His eagerness to help has resulted in donations and collection of both second-hand and new equipment that are vital for the treatment of the patients at the little hospital. The only problem was to get the equipment out to the hospital which is far off the beaten track – a troublesome and expensive transport. This is where Blue Water
came into the picture. We took care of the transport. Not everything went smoothly, but considering the circumstances, we can certainly be very satisfied. Morten Øster also expressed his gratitude for the help when he, during one of our staff meetings, gave a slideshow of his working day in Africa. Pictures showing that here the donations are well spent – and in the best way. If any of you should like to become a member of the Friends of Heri Village Hospital, established to support the project, please feel free to visit their website: www.herihospital.dk or pay DKK 100 into account no. 7780 1257930 with Skjern Bank (do not forget to enter your name, address and e-mail).
Blue Water sponsoring the new Danish Badminton Champion Through our good cooperation with Active Sportswear, we have sponsored the 22-year-old talented badminton player, Jan Ø. Jørgensen, since October 2008. So far, Jan’s greatest triumph is his recent championship in Denmark Open, where he won over the experienced Indonesian Taufik Hidayat ranking 2nd in the world league table. Last year, Jan won another big tournament in Denmark - Copenhagen Masters. The contract with Active Sportswear is made with Mark Christiansen, who had his own badminton career in the golden age of Triton, Aalborg back in the eighties. At that time, Blue Water sponsored Triton when they won the championship and Torben Carlsen became Danish Champion by defeating long-time champion Morten Frost. The sponsorship agreement with Jan Ø. Jørgensen runs until the summer of 2011, and we naturally hope to see Jan win several times again with Blue Water’s logo on his shirt. So please keep your shirt on Jan!
Maja Bager – the sports painter – is inspecting the final result.
Ice hockey
On 3.11, every ounce of energy was put into the ice hockey match between Kvik and Blue Water Herning. Blue Water has in close competition with Kvik won the last two years. This may be the reason why Kvik had increased their player budget considerably to avoid a second place. A mix of experienced and less experienced ice hockey players played 3 x 15 minutes. Everybody broke a sweat – some in their attempt to score a goal, others for trying to keep their balance while skating. First period was very close with chances to both teams, but ended 0-0. Then Kvik pulled themselves together and started to distance Blue Water, who tried to catch up, but in vain. When the referee blew his whistle for the last time, the score was 7-1 to Kvik, and it was a fact that the reigning champions found themselves outplayed by the strong Kvik team. After the match, the skating abilities or lack of same were merrily discussed over a beer/soft drink and a sandwich. From BWS, several proposals to raise the player budget, establish training camps etc. were made in order to regain the title as champions. In any case, it was a great evening with lots of laughter and socialising. We hereby congratulate Kvik on their victory and look forward to having our revenge next season.
From Ladelund Boarding School we have received the latest issue of their school magazine telling about the pupils abseiling down our 54-metre high silo. 13

Blue Water Sporting Event 2010 On 4.9, Blue Water’s annual sporting event for all employees in Denmark took place – in Hodde-Tistrup Sports Centre in the deserted Jutland for the second year running. This year, the weather clerk appeared to advantage and the beautiful weather was perfect for outdoor activities. The competition was close in the many different events and the fighting spirit amazing.
Naturally football was very popular with many participating teams and petanque was another favourite. Other events included beach volley, badminton, a variation of dodgeball, shooting, teamwork and zumba – something for every taste. The long good day ended with an evening party with dinner and a swirl of activity on the dance floor.
Blue Water Singapore participated for the third time, and defended their gold trophy, in the beach volleyball tournament invited by BBC Chartering and held on the beautiful Sentosa Island. 10 teams participated this time, and Kenneth, Bjarke, Allen, Victor and Michael put their backs into it, but were regrettably defeated by BBC in the final. However, this did not prevent them from having a great time, enjoying the good company, music, food and support from the crowd.
On 17.8, 3 running teams and 1 walking team from Blue Water Aarhus signed up for the annual DHL relay in Aarhus Memorial Park. Each running team had 5 participants who took turns at running 5 km before handing over the baton to the next runner on the team. In general, the 3 running teams and the one walking team did well – considering the weather. It rained all day, and in the evening the memorial park looked more like a big muddy puddle than a park. Despite the soaked clothes and damp shoes, they all had a fun day. A tent was put up for the occasion and the evening ended with a firework display. In addition we shall not forget to mention that 2 teams from Blue Water Esbjerg participated in the Denmark Relay which took place in Vognsbølparken (park) in Esbjerg.
Blue Water’s annual golf tournament was held at Give Golf Club’s course on a beautiful September day. 18 participants – 15 men and 3 ladies – spent the day together playing a tough match with high scores. This year, Sweden was represented and took home the cup, as Janne Ekholm came in with 41 points. In the picture, the organiser of the tournament, Peter Lauridsen from Blue Water Esbjerg, presents Janne Ekholm with the challenge cup. 14
In keeping with tradition, Blue Water Aarhus participated in the annual Fut Cup, arranged by Østjyske Speditører (East Jutland Freight Forwarders), with 1 ladies’ team and 1 men’s team dressed stylishly in Blue Water football clothes. Unfortunately the smart outfit did not quite live up to the results, but all participants had a fun day and party afterwards together with their business colleagues.
On 19.9, Blue Water Copenhagen arranged a” mini Le Mans” for the third time. The race took place at Roskilde Racing Centre – the biggest outdoor go-cart track in Scandinavia. 20 teams consisting of 4 drivers each raced non-stop for 4 hours. Maximum speed attained on the long side was 90 km per hour. Around noon, a hotdog stand arrived to satisfy the hunger of the participants and spectators. Team “Bilekspressen” won the race – and was 19 times faster than the slowest team, but only 8 seconds before no. 2. The winners were presented with magnificent trophies and of course a big bottle of champagne.
Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen, the head of our department in Nuuk, had a visit from his parents this summer. His father, Ove Pedersen, is the coach for EFB’s team in the Premier League. Whether his ulterior motive was to look for talents to reinforce the team, we shall leave unstated. In any case, Ove’s training evening for the local B67 team was a great success. Things were a bit different from Blue Water Arena, but the players were certainly not less enthusiastic!

Jubilees
Staff Redeployment Having completed his apprenticeship in Esbjerg – the last period served in the airfreight department - Christoffer Hedager has been transferred to our import department in Billund.
Silver
10 years
On 20.1, Lennart Voss will be celebrating his silver jubilee with Blue Water. Lennart started as trainee in the accounts department where he worked for 5 years until he moved to IT. Lennart has really been involved in the technological advances this department has achieved in order to support Blue Water’s many transport activities at home and abroad. In this connection the motto was always “learning by doing” along with the high technological standard. Today, Lennart is in charge of half the IT team focusing on operation, support, technical service, communication and security. Lennart is married to Dina and they have two sons, Morten and Andreas. “Dribble Legs”, his nickname from his football days, is now replaced by the more appropriate “IT potbelly” resulting partly from the countless number of cokes consumed late in the night, when there are computer problems, and partly from his sedentary hobby, remotecontrolled model racing cars practiced in the new heated garage built by Lennart’s own hands.
Irina Bachaliashvili will be celebrating her 10th jubilee with Blue Water Tbilisi on 1.2.11. Irina has formed part of the Tbilisi team since the very start working as an accountant. Irina is a pleasure to work with and demonstrates exceptionally professional and personal qualities in her work and her interactions with her colleagues. Irina has 2 children – a 19-year-old daughter, Tako, who is studying business administration and is in Germany for the time being as an exchange student, and a 16-year-old son, Erekle, who is still at school, but dreams of becoming a pilot. Niki, an 8-year-old spaniel, is also part of the family. In her spare time, Irina loves travelling around Georgia studying old historical monuments.
Niels Tolstrup – who was employed at the turn of the year to develop Blue Water’s short sea and combined transports in Europe – has accepted an additional number of challenges as newly appointed head of Blue Water’s port related business areas in Esbjerg, including the oil, gas, wind and other project activities.
On 1.4, David Nice will be celebrating his 10th anniversary with Blue Water Manchester. Before we employed David, he used to work for us via an agency to cover holidays and busy periods in the warehouse. We liked him so much that we took him on full time. When David first joined Blue Water, he had to endure the cramped conditions of our old warehouse in Trafford Park before we moved to our present site. Now we are cramped again and in need of a bigger place. Hopefully David will be celebrating his next jubilee in a nice new spacious warehouse.
Likewise, Ulla Outsen, Frodi Biskoptsø Poulsen and Nicolai Wiedermann have moved from Smyril Blue Water Esbjerg to Smyril Line’s new port of call in Denmark – Hirtshals.
Mr. Leary, in his second term at Blue Water, has 25 years under his belt on 1.3, which is a massive achievement. Older, wiser (no longer smoking) and with a little less hair, but still a young man at heart. Steve’s many years of experience in the world of freight has given him a vast source of information that all his colleagues benefit enormously from. When Steve started his second stint, he was the proud dad of a young family. Now his 2 lovely daughters have provided him with 2 beautiful grandchildren (with another one on the way), who Steve adores and of course they dote on him. In recent years, Steve and his wife, Denise, have displayed an adventurous spirit, selling up to have a magnificent bespoke narrow boat built, complete with a vintage Gardener engine. Steve loved that boat, especially the engine. We are sure he still dreams about it. After several years of living on their boat, Steve and Denise moved back on to dry land. Steve is the rock that Blue Water Manchester is built on. His sense of fair play and his capacity for hard work cannot be underestimated. Warm thanks and congratulations from all the colleagues – especially from Manchester.
Jesper S. Øraker – who has been around a number of Blue Water offices – most recently Nuuk – moves on in the world together with his American girlfriend. This time the destination is New York and Blue Water’s airfreight department there. Aage Bruun and Pernille Houmark Jørgensen from Smyril Blue Water in Hanstholm will have to drive a bit further to get to work, as their jobs have now been transferred to Hirtshals.
Retirement A familiar face with our airfreight and courier customers in the South of Jutland has retired as from 1.11.2010. Jens Erik Jensen has formed part of our airfreight team in Billund since 2001 as driver of our delivery van and he has also kept check of the warehouse. Jens Erik has always been a very popular and well-liked colleague and a first-class ambassador for the company. Jens Erik’s trademark is order and punctuality, but we will also remember him for his enthusiasm for football and his cheerfulness. In spite of his retirement, Jens Erik will continue as substitute whenever needed, and we are very pleased to keep in touch with him.

Esbjerg Festival During Esbjerg festival week - week 32/33 – a lot of activities were going on. Interesting and exciting events, in which Blue Water took an active share or stood on the sidelines as sponsor. One of the events was Esbjerg Rafting Cup, where port related companies raced against each other “for fun” in home-built rafts. The activities also included an art exhibition - local artists exhibiting and selling their works from containers at the dock area, 80 containers in total – as well as a body bike competition in the town square
for the benefit of Togo in Africa. Esbjerg is appointed Unicef town 2010 and collects money for schools in this poor African country in every conceivable and inconceivable way. A new initiative this year was a gangway from the city to the dock area, connecting the two parts of town. A blue line painted on the pavement from the pedestrian street to the dock area ended in an exhibition made by our photographer, Bent Medvind, the originator of the project.
