The Creation of Jewellery - By Birdie The raw power and the elegance join forces in By Birdie’s extravagant jewelry collections. Every piece is hand forged in gold and silver with a lavish use of diamonds – each piece of jewelry is a work of art. The hand forged jewelry is sumptuous. The rustic mix between ample use of gold and silver, and the lavish use of exotic pearls and gemstones, are reminiscent of the contents of a classic treasure chest. The style has a rawness to it, yet it is elegant. The metals have been hammered and treated to obtain the right structure and gleam – gold is surfacing through oxidized silver in a beautiful combination while untreated diamonds show their naked beauty. My passion is to design and create small treasures in a mix of gold and silver, with pearls, diamonds and gemstones. I search deeply within myself for the right look, and the result is a line of very personal jewelry. My style is edgy and luxurious, and the line of jewels is made for the woman who wants to wear something unique. My jewelry is made without compromise when it comes to design and choice of materials. The source of inspiration to the jewelry comes mainly from my many travels – I like to sense a place and feel the atmosphere, the trends, the architecture, history and culture. I’m quite inspired by India where I buy gemstones from the local gem traders and where I work closely together with the local Indian jewelry workshops 6-8 weeks out of the year. Likewise, I get inspiration from my own day to day environment – my beautiful garden, my home and Limfjorden – the canal close to where I live which offers plenty of year-round sailing, and even winter bathing. Also my office building inspires me - Nordkraft, which is a converted coal power plant at the harbor front of Aalborg. It’s an amazing place where you still sense the raw power from the thick concrete walls and old silos. My view is over the rooftops of the city, the old harbor and the beautiful Limfjord – it’s an abundance of impressions every single day.

About By Birdie The jewelry designer Birdie Wendelboe has created her very own style. The Scandinavian designs are typically based on principles of stringent minimalism and the idea that less is more. Birdie goes in the opposite direction with her brand. She creates each and every piece of jewelry as small works of art, extravagant in their appearance with the generous use of gold, oxidized silver and a lavish use of pearls, gemstones and all sorts of diamonds. The result is a duality between the raw and the feminine which has its origins in the fusion between Nordic industry, wisdom of the Far East and the raw nature. The jewelry and the style are edgy and with its individual expression, the brand in recent years has made waves both in Denmark and abroad. By Birdie continues to be a family driven company and is an exclusive brand within fine jewelry with over 150 dealers in Scandinavia, Germany and Canada, and can be found at exclusive multibrand jewelers and shop-in-shops. The Story Birdie has a Master of Science in Economics and held an executive level position in the pharmaceutical industry. However, as the career advanced, the satisfaction in her work started to wane. As the multi cultural, multi religious, ‘luxury Bohéme’ that Birdie is at heart, she missed creative stimulation. This acknowledgement was the end of corporate life for Birdie but was also the beginning of a new and exciting adventure. With a passion to create, and a need to express herself creatively – and with thoughts about her grandmother’s silver bracelet often on her mind, with a great deal of determination Birdie started up as self made jewelry designer and purveyor. With her long background in marketing, design and product development combined with her remarkable ability to visualize and take in impressions from her environment, Birdie seeks and finds inspiration everywhere – from the urban environment in New York City to the architecture from ancient times, the raw power and beauty of Nature, her home city of Aalborg, Nordkraft and The Limfjord Canal, and from trips all over the world. This is evident not just in the products where each piece of jewelry or scarf is created with a specific thought, feeling or story but is also evident in Birdies own home and garden where the creative interior decorating includes Italian pottery and Indian Kelim rugs and classic Danish design that all perfectly melts together and compliment the 100-year old house in which Birdie and her family live.
