Update #4 on Revised Compensation Package: Relocation Shipment

As of 1 January 2017, the ‘‘Shipment of Personal Effects’’ entitlement is referred to as ‘‘Relocation Shipment.’’ Under the new system, staff members with fixed-term or continuing appointments with no recognized dependents are entitled to a 20 foot container, and staff members with recognized dependents are entitled to a 40 foot container. The Non-Removal Allowance has been discontinued as of 1 January 2017. Transitional measures are in place for staff members who are eligible for this allowance as of 31 December 2016. For staff members with fixed-term or continuing appointments, the ‘‘Relocation Shipment’’ replaces the entitlement previously known as ‘‘Shipment of Personal Effects’’. It is one of the main features of the new relocation package established by the ICSC that came into effect on 1 January 2017. Main changes: ·

The introduction of ‘‘volume’’ in lieu of ‘‘weight’’ for determination of a shipment entitlement. The previous weight system has now been replaced with an entitlement to a 20 foot container for staff members with no recognized dependents and a 40 foot container for staff members with recognized dependents moving to or from the duty station.

Discontinuation of the distinction between removal and non-removal conditions. There will only be one type of shipment entitlement for eligible staff members, regardless of the category of duty station to which they are assigned.

Discontinuation of non-removal allowance; however, transitional measures for staff members in receipt of the allowance on 31 December 2016 (i.e. For staff members already in receipt of non- removal allowance prior to 1 January 2017, the allowance will continue to be paid for up to maximum five (5) years in the same duty station. Transitional measures will cease upon reassignment to another duty station.)

Conversion of surface shipment to air freight will only apply to countries officially designated as land-locked.

What remains unchanged? ·

Relocation grant lump sum in lieu of Relocation Shipment continues to be available to staff members: USD 10,000 for staff members with no recognized dependents joining them at the duty station and USD 15,000 for staff members moving with recognized dependents.

The Relocation Shipment or the lump sum relocation grant in lieu of full shipment is payable only to staff members with an appointment of one year or more and who are entitled to official travel on assignment/reassignment on change of duty station.

The shipment entitlements for temporary appointments remain unchanged (not applicable to 60-day contracts).
