Creating the Future - Preserving the Past

Our dedicated team, consisting of some of the most pre-eminent conservation experts, specialise in historic and listed building restoration, development and conservation. Our conservation team includes Conservation Accredited Engineers (CARE) accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and The Institution of Structural Engineers. Their expertise has helped protect and reimagine many significant historic buildings, including St. George’s Church in Bloomsbury, St. Lawrence’s Church in Mereworth, St George’s Church in Hanover Square, Langley Park, Victoria Station Manchester, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, The National Maritime Museum, Sloane Building King’s Library and The Imperial War Museum. As well as being one of the UK’s leading structural conservation advisers, we provide a range of expertise, including temporary works design, asset protection, environmental impact assessments, geotechnical support, drainage and pavement design, façade retention and railway consent advice.

Clients Benefit from our Deep Understanding of Conservation

Buildings that have been altered and repaired over hundreds of years do not give up their secrets lightly. Our skill, intensive research, experience, attention to detail and dedication translate into exceptional project delivery. Projects benefit from our extensive knowledge of architectural history, traditional building materials and repair techniques combined with modern technologies. We are seasoned at tackling complex and complicated projects.

Our Approach

We base our philosophy upon the principles of SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings) - conservative repair, retention of the existing structures as much as possible, and only inserting new structures, where appropriate. Our projects demonstrate this approach - careful research to identify its construction, earlier alterations, and any detrimental effects of the previous usage, followed by a thorough investigation of the structural fabric through visual inspection and selective, well-targeted, exploratory works.

We believe that historic buildings benefit from a pragmatic approach based on experience, engineering judgement and attention to detail. We maintain a balance between respect for the historic fabric and the need for commercial viability. By combining conservation principles with a proactive attitude, we have been instrumental in unlocking the potential of many landmark historic buildings and sites.

Our multi-disciplinary expertise provides a holistic approach to projects, and we are passionate about cherishing heritage. We aim to help heritage assets preserve their past and shape their future through asset protection, adaptive reuse or redevelopment, including total recovery in the case of fire or other catastrophic damage.

Awards

We have won many prestigious awards for conservation. These include the Georgian Group Architectural Awards (2006, 2009, 2011), Natural Stone Awards (2007), RICS Awards (2008), ACERIBA Awards (2010, 2011), Wood Awards (2014), The Stephen Lawrence Prize (2017) and the Civic Trust AABC Conservation Awards (2018).
