APPLE Caramel Pie
Caramel Apple Pie deserves a place on your table this fall! When you pop it in the oven, the cinnamon, apple, and caramel will fill your kitchen with that irresistible smell. This easy recipe delivers impressive results that your friends and family will love. While you can make your pie crust from scratch, this pie is absolutely incredible with the premade roll-out crusts as well.
EQUIPMENT: 9" Pie plate, Peeler
INGREDIENTS
̗ 6 large Granny Smith
Apples - approx. 6 cups when sliced thin
̗ 2 tsp ground cinnamon ̗ 1/2 cup salted butter ̗ 3 tbsp all-purpose flour ̗ 1/2 cup brown sugar ̗ 1/2 cup granulated sugar ̗ 2 tbsp water ̗ 1 tsp lemon juice ̗ 2 ready-made roll-out
pie crusts
̗ 1 tbsp of milk, half and
half, or cream
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. 2. Peel, core, and slice apples thin. Place them in a large bowl, sprinkle the cinnamon onto the apples, and stir to combine thoroughly. 3. The caramel sauce, in a medium saucepan, melt butter, then whisk in flour until combined. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, and water. Mix to combine well. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat, simmer for 3 minutes. Stir in lemon juice. 4. Pour caramel sauce over prepared apples and stir well to thoroughly incorporate and coat each apple. The sauce will thin out as you stir from the juices of the apples, so make sure to really combine and cover all the apples. 5. Place your bottom pie crust into your pan and gently spoon the apple pie filling into the pie crust, and smooth it to even out. 6. Place the top crust on and trim any excess crust.
Pinch the crust to seal the top and bottom edges.
Cut slits into the center of the crust to allow steam to escape. Brush crust with milk. Use aluminum foil or a pie shield to cover the edges of the pie. 7. Place your pie on the center rack and bake for 50 minutes or until the crust is golden. Allow the pie to cool for at least a full hour before cutting. This pie is best served the following day.
