Sant Joan de Déu Hospital implements an Automatic Notification System over IP network using MIO™ technology.

This new tool, based on MIO™ integration technology, allows the hospital to notify clinicians about medical imaging reception using Unified Communications infrastructure. Sant Joan de Déu Hospital (SJDH), in Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain), opened in September 2007, two years after the start of construction, at a cost of 15 M€. The new building covers a total area of 8.000 square meters,

Technical description of the solution Sant Joan de Déu Hospital chose the MIO™ software tool to become the core component of the solution to generate notifications. The medical imaging integration capabilities of MIO™, plus the full compatibility of Cisco Unified Communications with C2C’s solution, were key to the customer’s choice. Within the implemented solution for automatic notifications, MIO™ provides the following capabilities:

Converts to DICOM images and data generated by any medical modality, including electrocardiographs and conventional digital cameras.

Allows PACS storage of all kinds of medical imaging, not just radiological or DICOM images.

Complements Electronic Patient Record (EPR) with medical imaging of all kinds.

Generates notifications related to previous functions (capture of an image, sending to PACS, reception at the EPR of certain results or reports, etc.).

Allows full configuration and managing of the automatic notification system, including: trigger event, destination of the notification, type of message to be generated (IP Phone call, SMS, pop-up, etc), validity date of the automatic generation, content of the text message to be interpreted by the “text-to-speech” system, etc.

“The automatic notification system allows us to provide better patient care services. The system promptly informs us about medical imaging reception, reports ready to be reviewed and so on. As a result, we are reducing the total time necessary to diagnose.” Dr. Joan Carulla
