L3053 Yuletide Shambles York North East & Yorkshire Height: 11.0cm With the illuminated shop windows adding a lovely warm atmosphere, our wonderful snow-covered scene depicts The Shambles in a nostalgic Yuletide setting. L3049 Toy Town Buckinghamshire Middle England Height: 7.5cm Inspired by a timber-framed building from Burnham, our charming little model depicts it as a ‘little’ toy shop with ‘big’ pulling power! With its pretty tinsel trimmings, a window display full of wonderful ‘must-haves’ and boxes of gift ideas outside, it really is a veritable Aladdin’s cave for both young and old alike!

L3050 Christmas Stores Buckinghamshire Middle England Height: 5.5cm At Christmas time our little festive village shop from East Claydon really comes in to its own, supplying little seasonal extras for last minute Christmas preparations — Christmas trees and tinsel wreaths and even a red letter box for posting off Christmas cards and letters to Santa.

L3048 Brandy Butter Surrey South East Height: 7.0cm Our delightful Christmas dairy has been inspired by Norbury Park Farm’s ornamental dairy and it is here that the celebrated Norbury Blue Cheese, one of only two speciality unpasteurised vegetarian blue cheeses in England, is made.

L3052 We Wish You A Merry Christmas… Berkshire Middle England Height: 17.0cm Length: 17.0cm Simply wind the key and join the carolers as they sing around the magical revolving Christmas tree at this delightful little lodge with unusual wavy weatherboarding from Bucklebury.

The British Collection, England L3034 Cornflower Cottage Cambridgeshire East Anglia Height: 6.0cm Our sculptors admired the pretty blue-coloured plaster rendering of this cottage in Comberton so much that they decided to use it as the inspiration for this adorable little cottage. The steep pitch of the reed thatch is a real giveaway as to the location of this typical East Anglian vernacular gem, which was built somewhere between the early and mid-seventeenth century.

L3037 Wensleydale Heifer North Yorkshire North East & Yorkshire Height: 7.0cm This famous seventeenth-century whitewashed rubble inn at West Witton is situated on the A684 trans-Pennine road between Leyburn and Hawes and was once the haunt of the world’s most famous vet — James Herriot, who is said to have been a regular imbiber here in the early years of his veterinary career.

8

L3013 The Umbrella House In the UK, exclusive to H Samuel Hertfordshire Middle England Height: 7.5cm Inspired by the overhanging thatch, which is supported on rustic timber supports, our sculptors decided that this picturesque nineteenth-century thatched lodge from Shenley should be given a rainy theme and a name befitting its shape!

L3042 Custom House, King’s Lynn Norfolk East Anglia Height: 9.5cm Designed by Henry Bell and built by Sir John Turner in 1685, this was described by Pevsner as ‘one of the most perfect buildings ever built’. The arches of the ground floor would have originally been open to allow traders to set up their stalls under cover, but were filled in when the building became a custom house in 1718. It now houses the town’s Tourist Information Centre and Maritime Display.

L2999 Culbone Church Somerset South West Height: 6.0cm Dedicated to St Bueno, this little church (measuring a mere thirty-five feet in length) is considered to be the smallest complete parish church in England to hold regular services. The rubble walls date back to the twelfth century, which, as is the custom in Somerset, would have originally been rendered and lime washed.

L3079 Home Brew Kent South East Height: 8.0cm Built from buff brick, topped with a plain-tiled conical ‘oast’, and coming complete with adjoining rendered thatched building with dormer windows, this former oast house from Tunstall was at one time converted into a garage.

H Samuel Tel: 0845 6092000 www.hsamuel.co.uk

L3035 Lupin Lane (far left) Hampshire Middle England Height: 6.5cm Based upon a seventeenth-century New Forest cottage from Furzey Gardens, Minstead. With its age-weathered timber frame with brick infill and two eyebrow dormer windows peeping out from underneath the neat thatch, it is a fine example of the vernacular architecture of this much-loved region. L3038 Hollyhocks (left) Buckinghamshire Middle England Height: 6.5cm With its delightful timber frame filled with whitewashed brick and plaster, pretty half-hipped thatch roof and impressive external rendered chimneystack to the right, this seventeenth-century cottage from Princes Risborough is an excellent example of the local vernacular style.

L3017 Swiss Cottage Bedfordshire Middle England Height: 7.5cm Not to be mistaken for the Swiss Cottage of the much-visited Swiss Gardens nearby, this pretty cottage — cottages actually, as it was originally two cottages — was however, built at the same time (the nineteenth century) for the Shuttleworth Estate, so it is not surprising that they are so similar.

The British Collection, England

A reminder o some of th f e great models fea tured in our Janua ry catalogue! April Cottage was among the very first cottages to be sculpted by Lilliput Lane back in 1982 — so it is the perfect choice for a special resculpt to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Lilliput Lane Cottages! And just for good measure we’ve added two very familiar icons from the last twenty-five years too! Our very own Little Lost Dog and twenty-five daisies (the adopted logo of the Collectors’ Club since 1993) — can you spot them?

10

L3046 The Fleece Worcestershire Midlands Height: 7.5cm Built in around 1400, The Fleece Inn, Bretforton, is a most impressive black-and-white half-timbered former longhouse. It first became a licensed house in 1848 and was handed down through the same family, Byrd, since the days of Chaucer, until being left to the National Trust by Lola Taplin (a direct descendant of the Byrds) in 1977.

L3044 The Old Grammar School Leicestershire Midlands Height: 8.5cm Founded by Robert Smyth and prominently situated in the centre of the town, this is one of Market Harborough’s most notable icons and dates from 1614. The impressive timber-framed building stands on huge oak legs, and the underside offered shelter on rainy days when it was the site for the butter market.

The British Collection, Scotland & Wales L3039 Greyfriars Bobby Scotland Height: 8.0cm Near to the churchyard of Greyfriars Kirk is a pub called Greyfriars Bobby’s Bar, a popular watering-hole for tourists who flock to see the statue of Bobby, the faithful Skye terrier who kept guard over his master’s grave for fourteen years.

L3061 St Fagans Cottage Wales Height: 5.0cm Known as Nant Wallter Cottage, this tiny dwelling was built in around 1770 to house a farm labourer at the nearby Taliaris Estate, and was re-erected at St Fagans National History Museum in 1993. www.museumwales.ac.uk Tel: 029 2057 3500

L3020 April Cottage Hampshire Middle England Height: 7.5cm The real dwelling upon which April Cottage is based, is situated on the fringe of Alice Holt Forest, on the border between Hampshire and Surrey and was constructed during the latter part of the sixteenth century.

L2990 Mince Pie Annual Christmas Ornament Leicestershire Midlands Height: 6.5cm Standing close to one of the entrances to Mallory Park Racing Circuit, the thatch on our version of this adorable little Grade II Listed home looks just like pastry with a light dusting of icing sugar — just like a mince pie. It looks ‘exceedingly good’, doesn’t it?

L2991 The Angel Inn Christmas Special Edition Illuminated Wiltshire South West Height: 9.5cm Our delightful inn has been inspired by Lacock’s, The Sign of the Angel, a magnificent fifteenth-century former wool merchant’s house which, makes the perfect setting for our festive scene. Create a magical effect using two AA size batteries or a 3 volt adaptor for a wonderful scene. Adaptors are available from the Collectors’ Club.

11

L2950 Christmas Fayre With a sequentially numbered certificate by Lilliput Lane artist, Gary Kerkhoff Only available until December 2007 Illuminated Gloucestershire South West Height: 10.0cm Length: 23.5cm This festive scene truly captures the essence of the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, which, along with neighbouring Upper Slaughter, has to be one of the most photographed areas of the Cotswolds. Create a magical effect using two AA size long life batteries, or a 3 volt adaptor, for a wonderful scene. Adaptors are available from the Collectors’ Club.

12

L2922 The Old Forge At Belton Lincolnshire South West Height: 9.0cm Length: 20.0cm Built in 1838, our wonderful lit forge is from the picturesque village of Belton, three and a half miles from Grantham.
