“THE RHYMES HE COMES OUT WITH ARE JUST UNBELIEVABLE” Jay Ryder on the scene. Teen sension on his own mission to become the biggest HipHop artist in the world. He says he is ready for the challenge but he isn’t sure if the rap game is ready for him. Jay Ryder is about to start work on his debut album. It is promised that the album will feature his no.1 track ‘Straight Up’ and a few more others. If all goes well with the album, it is expected that he will be the youngest ever double platinum album seller. At only 17, Jay Ryder clearly has lots of time to way up his option. Our reporter, Timothy Burns was very excited to carry out this interview with him. So we got him relaxed and ready to tackle the questions that we have for him.
When did you start your obsession with music? [Laughs] Well I wouldn’t say it is an obsession but it’s definitely a hobby, well it started off as a hobby, something I liked doing in my spare time when i was about 13, 14 ish. I was still young so i was energetic and I was ready for any challenge. So it began as a hobby. Who inspired you? Well, it’s a number of people. 50, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and all that but i guess it was mainly one person who inspired me the most, Lil Wayne. He is just so unique his voice it’s different to everyone else’s to make it his own style and the rhymes he comes out with are just unbelievable. He truly is a genius. How old where you when you started recording properly? I was about 15. I had written down some lyrics and i got a beat. So then my friend encouraged me to go to a studio and record it so i did and next thing you know i was doing it more often. What makes you different from other artist? I am very relaxed and I enjoy writing my lyrics and my songs, whereas other artist perhaps treat it as a job, I simply do it for my own entertainment but if people like it then I am not going to stop them from listening to my music. Where were you born? I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. It’s an African country. My parents are both from there and to be honest I think it was a great place, I enjoyed my time there. I was sad to leave but I suppose at this stage I really can’t complain [Laughs] Is there any major difference between here and Zimbabwe? Yes. There is a lot that is different. In England there are more rules and restrictions but in Zim, there is more freedom.

Which artist would you want to record with? All of them to be honest, but it is always going to mainly be Lil Wayne because he is and will always be special to me. I know it sounds funny but I probably wouldn’t be where I am without his inspiration. I know he probably isn’t the best role model, yeah he smokes and all that but no one is perfect.
What did you want to be originally? I wanted to be a boxer mainly but the training was always hard for me and I struggled because of my asthma especially in the winter season but music always calmed me down and motivated me to do things that maybe I didn’t think I could do.
