Heart of Hamilton

The project is aiming to redevelop an existing gallery institution into a civic-cultural complex, or in other words, give it a heart... Water Water feature is very important to this project; Water mirror was used as a medium that was placed beside buildings facing each access from the street to separate the space. The new gallery overhangs towards the water beside the mainroad gives character and creates an excellent view for people on the street. Topography The design emanates from topography and landscape of the site. As the site is not flat, the topography can be taken advantage of to play with different heights of structure and create a natural buffer that allows good views from the buildings. Rammed earth walls During the earthmoving and excavation process, the earth that was removed to set the platforms can be reused to build the rammed earth walls on the site.

Precidents Ideal Land-Art & Culture Center / Verse Design - key value of “Community Construction” - main Entrance is an open spacious grey space without door, where multiple space of courtyard can be felt from street - the five independent functions are community library, community healthcenter, multi-functional Hall, community canteen, teahouse, and sale center, which were orderly designed by five different cuboids into the site

- Water... - Topography... - Rammed earth walls Brick Walls Retaining brick walls used to separate the space between the site area and surrounding building. - Laneways Activation Active the access from both four orientation, where the laneways from Brown St and Lonsdale St are large than the other two and became the main access with founctional facilities around them. - Two Central Squares Two sqaures designed in steps to provide the main communication area for people in Hamilton and also can be used as outdoor performance space.
