WELCOME CROESO Welcome to the ‘Stute’s 2013 Spring season! You may have heard that in 2011/2012 Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet approved a three year programme of repairs to revamp Blackwood Miners’ Institute. Already, a massive amount of work has been done including renovating the front of house areas and new seating in the auditorium. Now we’re into phase two and the auditorium will be closed for twenty weeks from January, as we are extending the back of the building to provide better changing facilities for the top artists we strive to bring you. We couldn’t starve you of the top quality entertainment we are proud to present to our customers, so we have programmed events into Bedwas Workmen’s Hall as a temporary measure until we reopen. The Workmen’s Hall has also had a recent facelift and all the original features are on show! We’ve lined up the very best acts for your enjoyment including the hilarious Mike Doyle, a wonderful musical production The Elvis Years and the family favourite High School Rocks. The ‘Stute isn’t completely closed. Tickets for all of the shows can still be booked from the box office, and all workshops and classes will still run at The ‘Stute as normal. Efallai y byddwch wedi clywed i Gabinet Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Caerffili gymeradwyo rhaglen tair blynedd yn 2011/2012 o atgyweiriadau a gwaith ailwampio yn Sefydliad y Glowyr Coed Duon (y Stiwt). Mae cryn dipyn o waith wedi ei wneud eisoes gan gynnwys adnewyddu ardaloedd blaen y tyˆ a gosod seddi newydd yn yr awditoriwm. We will also be putting on smaller productions in the ‘Stute Bar. The following logo’s are placed through the brochure. This will tell you where each event will be. Take a look at some information about our new home. ABOUT BEDWAS WORKMEN’s HALL The focal point of many towns and villages across the valleys in the early 20th century was the local miners’ institute. Bedwas Workmen’s Hall, which opened in 1923, was funded by a penny a week from the miner plus a grant from the owner of the local colliery, Sir Samuel Instone. It housed a public hall, library, cinema, dance hall and a billiards hall. The auditorium has recently had an internal facelift, placing all the original features on show and returning to the original colour scheme. FACILITIES • Bedwas Workmen’s hall has a car park with limited spaces available. • There is a fully licenced bar, situated within the auditorium itself. • Currently there is no disabled access to any part of the Workmen’s Hall, but steps are being taken to rectify this.
