This month’s issue is all about being eco-friendly, well when I say that, I mean more recycling your clothes and fashion trends rather than sorting your paper, tins and plastics into separate boxes, but hey! Do that to, it all helps! Anyway, the focus this month is on trends coming back into fashion, even when you thought it would never happen again, like double denim of the nineties. Think about it, how would it be possible to buy vintage clothes, while still being in style if trends didn’t reappear every now and again and where are all these designers supposed to get their inspiration, other than looking at old styles and revamping them? This issue will help you understand what’s coming back, including leather jackets, leggings and yes, even double denim is back.

Fashion goes in cir Fashion works in a cycle, always has and probably always will. The first is the cycle of a certain trend. It usually starts with a new trend coming about which is made by high end fashion designers and is generally only available to those with enough money to spend thousands of pounds on a bag, shoes or a skirt. The high street then gets involved and creates versions of the designers work, becoming widely available to the masses and finally as the trend dies down the clothing ends up in low end Lily Allen sporting a 50s tea dress and a typically fifties hair style.

Both Alice Dellal and Agyness Deyn are well know for their punk style, taking inspiration from the seventies and eighties
rcles
But where do the trends begin? Where do designers get their ideas? Well, designers will often look at past trends for their inspiration. A good example being the power dressing of the eighties, with big shoulder pads and now blazers have become a staple of any woman's wardrobe and the mini-dresses of the sixties are bigger than ever at the moment. That doesn’t mean designers steal old trends though. They take inspiration from them and create new and modern styles and this is why vintage clothing is so popular. The old trends can be worn with new style clothing to create a interesting, stylish outfit. 11 RERUN—APRIL 2012

Punk is not dead! Queen of punk Vivienne Westwood is the woman responsible for bringing punk into the mainstream in the 70’s, becoming especially popular with the rising fame of the sex pistols and the clash and since then, it’s never really been out of style. Since that time, there have always been people who have embraced the punk style. Punk is a well-known style of the seventies and eighties, and it’s even responsible for inspiring the grunge style of the nineties. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, small aspects of punk have been coming in to fashion, whether it be band t-shirts, leather jackets, Doc Martens or ripped jeans. There is no escaping it and recently with models such as Alice Dellal and Agyness Deyn becoming much more prominent in the modelling world, their style of leather jackets, short and shaved hair, along with big boots and ripped tights, the punk style is making its way back into fashion and more and more people are embracing it! 18 RERUN—APRIL 2012

Get the look...Tw Twiggy is one of the most recognised faces of the sixties, and being one of the first international supermodels, who wouldn’t want to look like her? Twiggy, with her short hair, big eyes and long lashes is an icon of the sixties era. Her look was a breath of fresh air at the time and it is back! Porcelain skin, defined eyebrows, dark eyes and neutral lips was the look of the sixties worn by many and it’s more than popular now! It’s not just the make-up either, hasn’t everyone else noticed girls are ditching their hair extensions and opting for short, cropped styles, like non other than the brilliant Emma Watson? Yes. Well it can’t be said Twiggy didn’t pull that look off fabulously in the sixties and is now inspiring people now to go for the chop 40 RERUN—APRIL 2012
wiggy 1. The first step in getting the look is getting the perfect looking skin. Apply an foundation of a fair skin tone and use a powder brush to apply pressed power on top. 2. Now you need blush. Peach cheek is what you want, so apply a peach-coloured blush to your cheekbones to create a more defined cheekbone, whilst still looking natural. Make sure you blend it thoroughly though, you don’t want to end up with orange stripes on your cheeks.
Maybelline £7.69
3. Define those eyes For the dark eye look, go for a liquid or gel eyeliner. Draw the eyeliner along your top last line , creating a thick line to emphasise your eyes. Don’t make a flick at the end though! End it at the end of your eyelid for the perfect look. 4. Luscious lashes You can go for the fake eyelash look to create long eyelashes instantly, or to do it without falsies, use an eyelash curler. A great tip for when using eyelash curlers, hear the curlers up with your hair dryer before you use them, the heat will make them come out curled more than ever.
Maybelline, £7.19
5. Thick lashes Apply a thick coat and make sure to get it into the roots so you get the maximum amount of volume and length. Apply as many coats as you want, just make sure to brush them through to avoid clumping. 6. Fill those eyebrows. Use a eyebrow pencil the same colour, or one shade lighter than your actual eyebrows. Fill them in and make sure they look thick and they arch is accentuated. You can use eyebrow pencil to lengthen your eyebrows as well, if they’re a little short.
17, £6.29
7. Lips, Lips, Lips To finish off the look, use a nude or light pink lip liner around the natural shape of your lips, so that once you’ve applied a pink lip gloss or lipstick, the colour stays in place. Collection 2000, £2.99 41 RERUN—APRIL 2012

Double Denim The nineties isn’t exactly remembered for having great fashion trends, it’s more remembered for fashion disasters, as well as bad hair and cheesy pop music. Steps and Backstreet Boys anyone? But in spite of this reputation, designers have brought double denim back from the nineties but with a modern twist. New cuts and styles of denim have arrived. Jackets, shorts, shirts and waistcoats, whatever you’ve got, mix them together and re-live the nineties. Go on,

PLATFORM FEVER Shoes are getting bigger, bolder and brighter. Take inspiration from the 70, 90, and stars of today, who are brave enough to embrace the platform shoe! Platforms were big in the seventies and nineties with stars such as the Spice girls rarely being seen without them on, but they’re even bigger now, in both senses. Lady Gaga is the leader of the trend, wearing them so high it would make any sane person wince, but it’s safe to say, the trend is here to stay for a while, so you may as well embrace it, but maybe keep to more sensible heights than Gaga. Flatforms, Boots, trainers and heels, they’re all back 47 RERUN—APRIL 2012

SU T UP Power dressing was huge in the eighties, which I guess is pretty obvious with the size of the shoulder pads sported by so many. Getting the balance between smart and stylish can be difficult, but with the weather warming up, you can finally ditch the oversized, bulky coats and big jumpers of the winter . A blazer is a perfect companion for you and your clothes. You can wear if in the office and choose a vibrant colour to brighten up your usually dull work clothes, or team one with a cute summer dress for the perfect spring outfit! Not only that, collars are back with full force. With Mui Mui reviving them last year, the trend has hung around and we predict it will be here for a while longer. Whether you go for peter pan collars or collars embellished with studs, just make sure you rock the trend.
