5 Questions that You Should Ask a Cardiology Specialist

What Leads to These Ailments?

1

There are several reasons contributing to CVD. Some patients are born with certain conditions that affect their heart and lead to strokes. Many a times, hereditary factors contribute to it. However, most people suffer from this ailment because of several factors, the primary ones of which are smoking, eating fried and unhealthy food, and lack of physical exercises. The more you are vulnerable to these risk factors, the higher the possibility of CVD.

What Is Meant by Cholesterol? It’s a fat-like waxy material used by the human body to make cell walls and for the purpose of making important hormones. The human liver produces this waxy substance and these are absorbed from the animal fats that people intake. When the cholesterol level becomes too high or the levels of HDL and LDL have an improper balance, the cholesterol can block the arteries affecting circulation. This leads to coronary problems.

What is the Relation between High Blood Pressure and CVD?

3

When blood travels through the arteries, it thrusts against the arterial walls. This force is called blood pressure. A person suffers from high BP when tiny arteries constrict and the heart has to exert more effort to pump blood through the tightened arteries, thus creating more pressure in the vessels. This continuous and excessive pressure built up on the artery walls weakens them and a patient is more susceptible to atherosclerosis, i.e. the thickening and contraction of the arteries.

How the Ailment be Diagnosed? There are a number of ways to diagnose cardiovascular disease. With a coronary angiogram, a dye is inserted into the arteries and an x-ray performed to ascertain how the blood is flowing through the heart. The picture that is taken, i.e. the angiogram, will show signs of atherosclerosis, if any. The next diagnosis is done through electrocardiogram. With the help of this test, the electrical activity of a patient’s heart is recorded.
