N E W M EDIA C ENT ER HARLEM, NEW YORK OVERVIEW | Community Center The New Media Center provides views of Harlem’s community, specifically historic landmarks of artistic influence such as the Apollo Theater and the National Black Theater. Visitors are able to connect to Harlem on various levels through the directed views. Each floor relies on unique filters to create multiple conditions for reflection.
The exhibits are housed within the core of the building, a vertically enclosed conduit that encourages individual experience. As you circulate through the community center you are exposed to moments of solitary reflection complemented by moments of social connection. On the ascent, louvers direct your attention to the core, and as you descend the views are designed to direct focus towards Harlem.
D IG ITAL ART IST ’ S RES IDENCE STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA OVERVIEW | Residence / Studio / Gallery This project is about finding balance between extremes. More specifically the balance between a natural environment and a digital one. As a digital photographer of natural elements, the client required a work and living space that could satisfy a range of environments. From private sanctuaries, to public gallery space, this residence is an autonomous arrangement for perfecting a work / life balance.
The main living space serves as a transitional element between four gardens. Each garden has its own identity and there are varying levels of intervention - from meticulously planned and groomed plant beds, to a wild garden plot. The structure itself provides diagonal enfilades and connecting axis to unify each garden with its alotted programatic living space.

TH E FO O D CO NNECT IO N NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA OVERVIEW | Marketplace / Community Center Food desert conditions are a social and environmental problem. Architecture has the ability to break down the compartmentalization of food distribution that has led to the overprocessing of food and today’s environmentally detrimental agribusiness model. This can be achieved by localizing access to organic food and creating a sense of ownership within the comunity. Educating by example and encouraging phsical interaction can help transform an unhealthy system.
The program for this abandoned lot includes a mobile market by co-opting a train line that runs from the center of downtown Charleston to North Charleston. Also included in the integrated layout are farmers’ and artisans’ markets, a restaurant and cafe, a teaching kitchen, a community center, a greenhouse with adjoining community gardens, and a park. These spaces work together to provide a sustainable hub.
