With the holidays approaching and many of us traveling home to spend time with our loved ones, the question comes to mind. Where is home? Many don’t have a place to hang their coat. According to National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty which states that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children are homeless (2007). Out of those 3.5 million people, most of them don’t even have a coat to hang. #whereihangmycoatUO Urban Outfitter in partnership with One Warm Coat and the punk rock trio, The Coathangers are on a mission to help the homeless of Philadelphia fight the cold this holiday. Donation :
In the news recently has been a group of school children decorating their streets with coats and scarves with labels “I am not lost if your are cold pleas take me.” In this collaboration the week leading up to the event we would encourage our customers to decorate the streets of Philadelphia with their donated scarves coats gloves etc. and document it through social media #whereihangmycoatUO. Additionally there will be donation bins in the store provided by One Warm Coat.

Discount : 20% off all winter ware (hats, gloves, scarves, coats‌..) the week of the coat drive so that people may purchase winter ware to donate; a gift for the holiday, or for themselves.
Instal ation :
In store will be a temporary interactive installation. This will be made with coat hangers (wire preferable) built to frame the stage where The Coathangers will be playing. In addition, there will be coat hanger poles that will stand in isolation with canopies interconnecting many of them. This installation becomes interactive the day of the show when we ask the customers to decorate the store/installations just as they have decorated the streets of Philadelphia. We want them to donate and decorate our store by hanging their donated items on the installation as well as document it on social media #whereihangmycoatUO to bring awareness to the issue at hand.

THE COATHANGERS : The sassy, playful, ATL pop punk trio The Coathangers built their reputation on heavy tom beats, brief guitar stabs, and aggressive lyrics with the release of their self titled album in 2007.
