Who ? Capt(retd) Parasuraman Seetharama GM, Prog, NDA Agency “People have an attitude of we don’t need security since they think bad things would never happen to them”
There is a need to create more awareness about how security makes your life better and more secure.
Who ? Col. S. A. Muddiah, Chief officer, Operations, NDA Agency “People want maximum skills but minimum wages. Only 97% people do not care about what govt. mandates wages are.
There is a need for creating value in the minds of clients for security sklls.
Who ? Bir Singh Thapa, Local Agent “I got a tender from Government for 1000 labourers but I couldnt source that many. Getting labourers is difficult.
The process followed for recruitment is still referral based or using local agents in rural areas.
Who ? Pancham Kanu, Assam Security Guard at Srishti “This is a Karo ya Maro job. In this other security agency where my brother works, they given bonuses every 6 months, for every 30 days consecutive duty performed and he doesnt have to buy his own uniform !
Money is a huge factor for the security guards but even more so is the feeling that their job is a good job. It all adds up to JOB SATISFACTION.
Who ? Security Guard at Umesh PG “I want to go back to my home for farming in next 2 yrs but I also know someone who has been a security guard for 30 yrs.”
Once a security Guard always a security Guard. Nobody wants to be a security Guard by “Choice”.
Who ? Anand G, Head of Admin, Srishti, Client of NDA Agency “We have to train these people for atleast 1 month. We just hired a Head supervisor because we needed someone who could understand english.

Who ? Vijay Sharma, Client of G4 Security Agency “G4 has a big name. I can reply on them and in the field of protecting my valuables it is of high importance
Trust is an important factor in the field of security guards. The lack of verification of individual candidates mean that the security agency can be the face of that trust for clients.
Who ? Padam Bahadur, Nagaland Security Guard at Srishti “I have never seen the inside of the school but since the agency asks for you have passed 8th std, I told them I was.” “5 minutes training only”
Training is a sham in the civil security guard region. Also, verification does not happen due to the cumbersome process.

Reflections
This project has different working methodologies starting from defining a problem statement to formulating a business modal canvas. During the project we understood and emphasized the present scenario of the unskilled workers and learned how to focus on the brief and not make it into a world problem.
We got some deep insights into security guard’s working style and living conditions. It was surprising to know about different under utilized laws/acts formed by the government. The importance of working with the entire ecosystem to develop a sustainable model became clearer.
