CORNER OF ROUTE 66 (MAIN STREET) AND GARTH BROOKS BOULEVARD IN YUKON, OKLAHOMA

YUKON MUNICIPAL BUILDING + AUDITORIUM DESIGN STUDIO V - ARCHITECTURAL MAKING - 2ND YEAR

LOCATED IN YUKON, OKLAHOMA, THIS PROJECT WAS PRESENTED BY A BOARD OF OFFICIALS IN THE YUKON CITY MUNICIPALITY LOOKING FOR INNOVATIVE IDEAS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT FOR THEIR NEW TOWN HALL. THIS STUDIO PROGRAM PUT AN EMPHASIS ON HISTORICAL REFERENCE AND PRECEDENT TO THE AREA AND THE TOWN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH HISTORIC ROUTE 66. THERE WAS ALSO A ZONING AND CODE ANALYSIS PROCESS THAT COVERED THE MAIN CONCERNS FOR THE SITE AND FUNCTION OF THE BUILDING. THE MAIN PURPOSE WAS TO REVILATIZE MAIN STREET (ROUTE 66) IN YUKON, BRINGING RETAIL, A STRONGER COMMUNITY, AND FUNCTIONAL MUNICIPAL BUILDING TO THE CITY. THE DESIGN CREATED HELD AN EMPHASIS ON THE RELATION OF THE FAMOUS YUKON SILOS TO THE CONTEXT OF THE CITY AND ITS CIRCULATION AND URBAN GROWTH.

THIS PROGRAM ALLOWED FOR A VERY FLUID AND FUNCTIONAL CIRCULATION PLAN THAT CENTERED AROUND THE NECESSITY OF THE DIFFERENT MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENTS TO BE ABLE TO COLLABORATE.

LUNGOTEVERE AUGUSTA AND VIA DE RIPETTA IN ROME, ITALY

ARA PACIS MUSEUM DESIGN STUDIO VI - ARCHITECTURAL MAKING II - 3RD YEAR ROME HAS ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE AND AMAZING HISTORIES IN THE ENTIRE WORLD, MOVING FROM LEADER TO LEADER, CHANGING THE ARCHITECTURAL LANDSCAPE. THIS SITE INCLUDED SOME OF THE HISTORY DATING FROM THE AUGUSTIAN PERIOD ALL THE WAY THROUGH MUSSOLINI TO ITS NEWEST CONSTRUCTION IN 2010. THE ARA PACIS IS AN ALTAR AND ATRIFACT THAT WAS DESCOVERED DATING BACK TO ANCIENT TIMES. ENCASED IN RICHARD MEIER’S MUSEUM, THE PROJECT CALLED FOR A NEW DESIGN TO HOLD THE ARTIFACT, INCORRPORATING GALLERY SPACES AND MULTI-USE OFFICE AND STUDIO SPACES. THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SITE WITH ITS PROXIMITY TO THE MAUSOLEUM OF AUGUSTUS AND PROMINENT CHURCHES IS VERY IMPORTANT AND THROUGH THE USE OF THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE REGION, MULTIPLE LEVELS ALLOW FOR DIVERSE SPACES BE INHABITED. THE ANTIQUITY OF THE REGION AND THE NEARBY TIBER RIVER HELPED TO FUEL THE EMPHASIS OF A CIRCULATION BASED MUSEUM WITH ELEMENTS FROM HISTORY TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC PLAZA SPACES TO UPHOLD ROME’S URBAN LIFE.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

URBAN LIFE WAS A LARGE COMPONENT OF THIS PROJECT SO THERE WAS PIAZZA SPACE PLACED ON DIFFERENT TIERS OF THE ROOF TO ALLOW FOR FUNCTIONAL USE OF THE BUILDING BOTH ON THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. THE RIVER AND ITS PROXIMITY TO THE SITE INFLUENCED THE PLACING OF THE FOUNTAIN HELPING TO GUIDE CIRCULATION IN THE MUSEUM AND ALSO FUELING THE DESIGN. PHYSICAL MODEL PHOTOS

MIXED-USE BUILDING

DESIGN STUDIO VII - SYSTEMS AND CONTEXT - 4TH YEAR LOCATED IN THE ARTS DISTRICT IN DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY, THE SELECTED SITE PRESENTS A POSITIVE STEP BACK FROM THE SKYRISES IN THE CENTER OF DOWNTOWN WHILE MAINTING A STRONG COMMUNITY IN THE URBAN AREA. WITH A PARK PRESENT ON THE BUILDING SITE, AN IDEA FOR THE PLACEMENT OF A MIXED-USE BUILDING WAS BENEFICIAL BOTH TO THE EXISTING COMMUNITY MEMBERS AS WELL AS THE NEW RESIDENTS THAT WOULD OCCUPY THE APARTMENT SPACES. RETAIL AND SERVICES WERE TO BE PLACED ON THE FIRST FLOOR, BRINGING REVENUE AND BRINGING PEOPLE TO THIS UNIQUE PART OF THE URBAN CONTEXT. A CLOSE STUDY OF CONSTRUCTION DETAILS AND BUILDING SYSTEMS WERE INTEGRATED INTO THE PROGRAM OF THIS PROJECT, PUSHING STRUCTURALLY FUNCTIONAL DESIGN AND PASSIVE SYSTEM USE. THE “TRANSITION,” DESIGNED TO MAXIMIZE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND GREEN SPACE, CREATES A MODERN RESIDENTIAL INSTALLMENT THAT ALSO STRENGTHENS THE COMMUNITY.

ROME AND FLORENCE SKETCHES + ADVANCED SYSTEMS ASSIGNMENTS ADVANCED SYSTEMS - BUILDING ANALYSIS - 3RD YEAR

THESE ASSIGNMENTS EXPLORED THE PLAN, SECTION, ELEVATION, AND PERSPECTIVE VIEWS OF CHURCHES AND VARIOUS IMPORTANT ROMAN ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS FROM ANCIENT TO MODERN TIME. THROUGH ON-SITE SKETCHING AND CAREFUL RESEARCH, THE SELECTED BUILDINGS WERE ANALYZED AND REPRESENTED IN VARIOUS WAYS WITH SKETCHING AND RENDERING TECHNIQUES.

ONE OF THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS DURING THE TIME IN ROME WAS A “RIONE” STUDY, WHICH ENTAILED ANALYSIS OF A SPECIFIC DISTRICT IN ROME AND ITS PROMINENT ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS.
