“ Architects mostly work for privileged people, people

who

have

money

and

power.

Power

and money are invisible, so people hire us to visualize their power and money ... I love to make monuments, too, but I thought perhaps we can use our experience and knowledge more for the general public.

S ITE S P ECI F ICIT Y The inter vention promotes immersion into the landscape, simultaneously emerging f rom and nestling into the earth. The radial plan provides a series of unique vantages of the rolling hills and treetops.

CO M M UNIT Y C ommunity is developed with high visual connectivity, promoting overlap between program areas. ‘Feature ramps’ foster inclusivity, providing all visitors an equal experience.

s o h o synthesis A F F ORDA B LE HOU S ING S OHO , NEW Y ORK CIT Y “ Design housing for the growing number of young artists in NYC. The program consists of low-cost units of various size. An additional programmed space should aid in the strengthening of a sense of community in this fading area in SoHo.

WATER M ANAGE M ENT New York sewer systems have long been overloaded. S oHo Synthesis makes use of the NYC Green Infrastructure Grant Program, which funds the development of water retention strategies. The project responds with both pitched and permeable rooftops, utilizing the light well as a collector of stormwater.

F OR M AL M O V E S This translated into two formal moves: a rotated faรงade to maximize southern exposure, and the integration of a light well to allow daylight to reach deeper spaces.
