What is We Are Los Angeles? We Are Los Angeles is a public art exhibit and celebration of the California Community Foundation (CCF)’s 100 years of service to Los Angeles County. Serving as a closing ceremony to CCF’s centennial, We Are Los Angeles will feature a public art exhibit at Grand Park in downtown L.A. from Nov. 12-17, 2016, with original work by local artists exploring our region’s social issues. The kick-off event on Nov. 12, 2016 will showcase performances from L.A.’s diverse array of talent. We Are Los Angeles aims to engage a broad and diverse public audience with a series of angel sculptures to convey civic pride and unity—values that frame CCF’s work in impacting change in Los Angeles. Each angel reflects a vision for a stronger L.A. County that is inspired by powerful areas of need, challenge and potential. 2. Why did CCF decide to do this? CCF has a heritage of investment in both visual artists and nonprofit organizations that create, teach and present art countywide. In honor of its centennial year, CCF wanted to leverage public art as way to spark conversation

about social issues and nonprofits working together to build a better Los Angeles County. This project is inspired by Community of Angels, a large-scale temporary public art installation that took place from 2000-02 in Los Angeles. The project commissioned artists, organizations and sponsors from the region to adorn a pre-existing sculptural template of an angel via paint, mosaic or other media. The 2000 angel mold was designed by artist Tony Sheets, with a redesign in 2002 by artist Gayle Garner Roski. Evolving the Community of Angels concept, CCF has reimagined a renewed iteration of the angel sculptures, redesigned by Roski, for a temporary public art installation titled We Are Los Angeles. 3. How many angels are there? There are 30 sculptures that will be on display at Grand Park from Nov. 12-17 and then disseminated to nonprofit organizations around L.A. County. 4. Where are the other angels going? The angel statues are going to nonprofit organizations that are based in L.A. County and have the capacity to accept this gift. 5. How did you pick the organizations that will receive angels? CCF looked for organizations that: − are based in L.A. County; − have high-traffic areas; − can accept a large art piece; and − work in the priority areas that CCF funds. 6. What is the benefit to my organization? We believe art is transformative. It can move, provoke and inform people regardless of language or background. In particular, the imagery of these sculptures is meant to engage people on the issues facing Los Angeles County. Your organization will have an original piece of artwork by an esteemed local artist on display for the nonprofit’s constituents. The statue will include a plaque with hashtag #WALA to encourage sharing/geo-tagging on social media to create additional visibility for your organization. 7. What is the value of the angel? The cost to build and adorn each angel sculpture has been underwritten by a generous donor. The sculpture serves as a donation to the nonprofit organization and the donor’s name will be included on the plaque, unless he or she has chosen to remain anonymous.
