Today’s Students. Tomorrow’s Changemakers. The Calhoun experience is the start of incredible things for our students, who use opportunities here at school to make an impact on their community and the world beyond. A jazz musician gives back Lincoln Hart ’17 Harvard University ‘21 Lincoln drew upon his love of music to help children around the city. Through his Community Action class and, later, an independent study, he created a rap-based language arts curriculum that he brought to underserved public school children. An accomplished jazz musician, Lincoln was also Varsity soccer captain and volunteered as an advocate for restorative justice at the Harlem Youth Court.
A scientist forges connections Delsa Lopez ’17 Williams College ‘21 Delsa used her talents in science and storytelling to impact others. For Senior Work, she taught K-12 science at the American Museum of Natural History. As well as excelling in advanced biology and anatomy classes, Delsa was a gifted theater makeup artist. She embraced community service, serving hundreds of hours as a volunteer tour guide at the Poets House.
A budding programmer leaves his mark Zak Wegweiser ’17 Brown University ‘21 Zak harnessed his passion for STEM to make a difference at Calhoun: for his Junior Workshop, he designed a class-scheduling software that is now used school-wide. In addition to pursuing advanced science classes, Zak captained the Varsity basketball team and was a Peer Leader. As a senior, he attended Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference and developed apps for small businesses.
