The Community Association Financial Management Certification

The California Certified Industry Partner Certification
The CCIP Certification is for industry partners who service the community management industry. Earning the CCIP Certification will help industry partners:

Certified Community Association Manager (CCAM)
Step one for professional community managers is to meet the requirements for initial certification by completing coursework and demonstrating understanding of statespecific legal requirements, community management best practices and professional ethics through work experience and examinations.
EARNING THE CCAM
You can earn the CCAM in five steps:
STEP 1: Review CACM’s available Individual Memberships for exclusive savings on registration for courses, events and certification applications – Join now! Contact membership@cacm.org for more information.
STEP 2: Access education.cacm.org, My Certifications and enroll in the Certified Community Association Manager (CCAM) Certification.
STEP 3: Complete the three required courses: The Basics of Association Management (BAM), California Law Series and Foundational Ethics for Community Managers.
STEP 4: Collect three recommendation forms from a 1) board member, 2) industry partner and 3) an employer or a CACM Certified manager.
STEP 5: Upload the required course completion documents, recommendation forms and a completed CCAM Certification Application to your in-progress certification on education.cacm.org.
MAINTAINING THE CCAM
Once you’ve earned the CCAM certification, the recertification process allows you to pursue continuing education tailored to your experience level and education needs. To maintain this certification, you must recertify every three years, which entails the following:
1. Access My Certifications and ensure you are enrolled in recertification for the CCAM Certification.
2. Complete 30 CEUs within three years.
• Attend a CACM Law Seminar & Expo (8 CEUs) and upload an event completion document to your in-progress recertification in the Education Center.
• Complete an ethics course (4 CEUs) and upload a course completion document to your in-progress recertification in the Education Center.
• Initial recertification period: Advanced Ethics (4 CEUs).
• Next recertification period: Ethics Mastery (4 CEUs) prerequisite is Advanced Ethics.
3. Complete the remaining 18 CEUs and upload your current course transcript to your in-progress recertification in the Education Center.

Specialty Certificates
The second level in career development for community association managers. A Specialty Certificate demonstrates in-depth understanding of one of the four primary management Specializations, including High Rise, Large Scale, Portfolio Management and New Development. In addition, CACM offers adjunct specialty designations in Age-Restricted Adult Community Management (AA), Commercial & Industrial CID Management (CI) and Lifestyle Management (LM) for those who have earned a PM, ND, HR or LS specialty certification.
EARNING A SPECIALTY CERTIFICATE
1. Access education.cacm.org, My Certifications and enroll in the desired specialty (Portfolio Management, Large-Scale Community Management, High Rise Community Management or New Development Community Management).
2. Successfully complete the required coursework:
• LDR400 Human Resource Management
• INS400 Risk Management in Community Associations (The prerequisite for Risk Mgmt. is either INS200 Insurance Principles or INS300 Advanced Insurance Principles)
• And one of the following specialty courses:
• SPC400 High Rise Community Management
• SPC410 Large Scale Community Management
• SPC430 Portfolio Management
• SPC440 New Development Community Management
3. Complete the Specialty Certificate application located in your in-progress specialty certificate on education.cacm.org.
4. Successfully complete the required narrative.
Once your Specialty Certificate has been awarded, display it proudly in your office or include copies in board packets to promote your accomplishment. It remains valid from the date it’s awarded, and no continuing education or maintenance fees are required.

Master Of Community Association Management (MCAM)
The highest level of achievement in community association management, the MCAM certification is the ultimate professional designation available for California community association managers.
EARNING THE MCAM
You can earn the MCAM in five steps:
1. Hold the CCAM Certification in good standing for a minimum of five years.
2. Access education.cacm.org, My Certifications and enroll in the MCAM Certification.
3. Successfully complete within three years prior to submitting the MCAM Application the following courses:
• BDA 300 – Fundamentals of Effective Governance
• LDR 400 – Human Resource Management
• LDR 550 – Ethics Mastery
• INS 300 – Advanced Insurance Principles
• INS 400 – Risk Management

4. Submit the MCAM Application and processing fee to your in-progress certification on education.cacm.org (coursework may be applied up to three years from completion).

MAINTAINING THE MCAM
Once you’ve earned the MCAM certification, we recommend you earn your CEUs by attending CACM events (vs. courses) in order to stay abreast of current industry issues. To maintain this certification, you must recertify every three years, which entails the following:
1. Access My Certifications and ensure you are enrolled in recertification.
2. Complete 20 CEUs within three years:
a. Attend a CACM Law Seminar & Expo (8 CEUs) and upload an event completion document to your in-progress recertification in the Education Center.
b. Complete Ethics Mastery (4 CEUs) and upload a course completion document to your in- progress recertification in the Education Center.

Other Available Management Designations
CAMEx Designation
The CAMEx designation is for those members of CACM who have the highest level of decision-making authority within a management business or community and who are responsible for the strategic direction of their organization including oversight of public policy and keen awareness of macroeconomic factors affecting the community management industry.

CAME x ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Hold a CACM Individual Membership in good standing (to be in good standing you must have no outstanding monies owed to CACM or any pending activity with the CACM Professional Standards Committee)
2. Serve the community management industry in one of the following categories:
• Community association management business owner.
• Full-time onsite community association general manager.
• Serve as a member of the CACM Board of Directors.
Maintaining the CAMEx Designation: 9 CAMEx points are required annually in order to renew the designation.
The CAMEx designation is valid for one calendar year until one of the eligibility conditions is no longer met. For details and full requirements, please view the CAMEx application by enrolling in the CAMEx designation on education.cacm. org under My Certifications.

CCAM-Emeritus Designation
The CCAM-Emeritus designation is offered to current CCAM-designated managers who are no longer actively employed in community association management, but are keen to continue promoting their commitment to the community management industry, while continuing to access valuable professional and networking opportunities through CACM.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, CCAM-Emeritus applicants must:
1. Be a current CACM member in good standing
2. Earned and maintained a CCAM designation for at least 15 years
3. Be retired from community association management, excluding part-time community management consultation
There is no continuing education requirement. In addition, CCAM-Emeritus designation holders are no longer required to pay CACM membership dues.

Community Association Financial Manager (CAFM)
As an accounting/financial professional serving the community association management industry, you now have a better way to show clients you understand the unique requirements of community associations. Developed specifically for professionals in accounting or financial roles who service community associations, the Community Association Financial Management (CAFM) certification is the only California-specific designation that clearly communicates your role and expertise than previously was possible.

Achieving the CCIP will ensure you are proficient in best business practices, California-specific laws and ethical guidelines to apply when partnering with community associations. Industry Partners who have earned the CCIP certification are able to promote an atmosphere of mutual trust between board members, homeowners and the community manager.

Industry Partners can earn the CCIP in five steps:

Want to be even more involved in CACM legislative efforts? Consider joining the Legislative Committee, a task force organized for the advocacy of managers and management companies. Managers who testified in Sacramento in 2024 played a major role in establishing and maintaining CACM’s position on bills and helped CACM become recognized as the voice of reason on CID management policy.

INTEGRITY
CACM expects all members, certified or in the process of obtaining a certification, to uphold the values of the CACM Code of Professional Ethics and Standards of Practice. View/Download Code here. CACM prohibits the use of external resources, which include but are not limited to, artificial intelligence (AI), phones and assistance from others, while completing an exam or assessment. Failure to comply may result in suspension of certification, removal of CACM membership, or subject to review by CACM’s Professional Standards Committee.
EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS
Those who participate in CACM courses understand that all educational materials, including but not limited to student manuals, instructor manuals and educational content, are proprietary and copywritten to CACM. Participants agree not to share any proprietary information in CACM’s course materials with any third party.
COURSE RECORDINGS
Specified courses will be recorded. By attending, participants (Students, Instructors, Auditors and Facilitators) give CACM permission to record audio, video and chat. The recording will be accessed by course participants and invitees who were unable to attend the online session. All participants agree not to share or distribute the recording to any third party. Note: not all courses will be recorded. It is the registrant’s responsibility to ensure attendance and participation in all courses.
DESIGNATION
Certified members or organizations who do not complete their recertification or reaccreditation requirements will result in their designation(s) or accreditation being suspended. If suspended, certified members and or organizations must remove their designation across all platforms.
RETAKE EXAM
If a registrant does not pass an exam, they may register for a retake exam for $40. If the retake exam is not deemed passing, the registrant will be required to reenroll in the corresponding course module.
