that Cal Maritime provided the training that ultimately led to his

professional success leading his family’s ship maintenance and environmental management business. The proceeds from the vessel were used to create a $150,000 named scholarship. n 2012 was also the year of the successful completion of the $2.6

million Training Ship Golden Bear Navigation Lab, which brings state-of-the-art simulation to sea for cadets. The Navigation Lab includes a full mission bridge simulator as well as workstations used for navigation training. The facility provides students with a more effective sea training program by giving them more time-ontask navigation training, increasing their celestial and terrestrial navigation proficiency skills, and providing a venue that fosters more one-on-one navigation instruction with faculty. The lab was incorporated into the 2012 international training cruise, a highlight of which included a transit through the Panama Canal. n As noted in the past, Capt. Robert W. McAllister ’42 was a strong

supporter of the Cal Maritime. He not only established a scholarship during his lifetime, but also designated an additional $410K to the university in his estate gift when he passed away in January 2012. Capt. McAllister believed in giving back to the school that gave him his start in his career. Students will long remember the captain and

lectures. In addition, our cadets gave to the community by logging in a record number

of community service hours during the academic year. Over 135 Cal Maritime cadets performed 3,500 hours of community service to nearly 20 community partner organizations, truly making us partners with the community.

As we move forward with a new administration team in 2012-13,

we look forward to an ever increasing partnership with our alumni and friends in the life of Cal Maritime. Please consider joining us by visiting campus, giving of your time and talent to mentor a cadet, becoming involved with your local alumni chapter or volunteering to assist with events or classes. If you did not find your name on the 2011-12 Honor Roll of Donors list, please consider partnering with the many individuals who have already given to support our cadets, programs, or endowments. Every gift to Cal Maritime will help to ensure that we continue to offer our cadets the highest quality educational experience and prepare them for a successful future beyond graduation.

Once again, on behalf of our faculty and students, our deep

collaboration with Chevron to establish a maritime crisis management training center and also a collaboration with STERIS Corporation to assist in the development of shipboard biological decontamination systems.

In an effort to conserve paper and save expensive printing costs, we have chosen to make this year’s annual Honor Roll of Donors available only online. The university and CMA Foundation made this change for academic year 2012-13 to support of our campus-wide effort to encourage sustainability and recycling practices.

The California Maritime Academy’s success is due, in large part, to the generous financial support we have received from alumni, parents, friends, foundations, organizations and corporations. It is with great pleasure that we present the Honor Roll of Donors for The California Maritime Academy Foundation. We would like to thank all of those listed in this report for their loyalty and commitment to Cal Maritime. Last year, our donors’ investments allowed Cal Maritime’s mechanical engineering students to compete in a national competition (SAE Mini Baja Series) against top mechanical engineering schools. Continuing the legacy of Team 1 (2003) and Team 2 (2011), Cadets Drew Tucker, Ancil Maxwell Hoffman, Aharon Huff and Billy Aton are set to compete in the 2013 SAE Mini Baja Series.
