‘Teachers to teach better’, DEPED removes admin tasks

G

earing towards building a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning to thrive and to give support to teachers to teach better, the Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary, Sara Duterte-Carpio, signed a policy to immediately remove the administrative tasks of public-school teachers last January 26.

DepEd believes that the core of quality basic education is a vibrant and quality teaching work force. Under their MATATAG Agenda, the Department is committed to enhancing the delivery of quality basic education while promoting teacher quality and teacher welfare.

“Let’s bring our teachers back to the classrooms,” said Duterte in a statement last January 27.

Public school teachers in the Philippines often engage in various activities related to state programs, extending beyond their primary role in education, such as providing services during elections.

“To ensure its effective implementation, along with the filling up of 5,000 administrative personnel for 2023 and another 5,000 administrative personnel for 2024, we will also be providing additional [Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses] to enable our schools to hire the necessary administrative support staff,” she added.

Moreover, the administrative tasks to be removed from teachers are personnel administration, property/physical facilities custodianship, general administrative support, financial management, records management, feeding, school disaster risk reduction and management and other related programs.

“We want to ensure that our teachers are rightfully compensated for hours of actual classroom teaching beyond the 6-hour limit provided under the Magna Carta for teachers,” she emphasized.

A primary justification for Mindanao’s independence is the aspiration for autonomy and complete authority over its abundant resources. Mindanao could more effectively manage its resources, guaranteeing that the advantages are directly distributed to the local community.

However, as Mindanao plays a pivotal role in the Philippine economy, particularly in terms of agriculture and natural resources, it could disrupt

VIEWPOINT

trade, investment, and economic if succession were to occur. This would directly impact the livelihoods of people in the region, potentially leading to economic hardships and inequality.

Another primary concern surrounding secession is the potential for political instability. Establishing a new government structure and forging diplomatic relations with neighboring countries would be a complex and arduous process. This could lead to political tensions and conflicts, further complicating the delicate balance of power in the region.

The prolonged conflict in Mindanao has caused significant human suffering and economic setbacks. Independence may present an opportunity to break free from the cycle of violence and establish a durable peace but could also escalate security concerns, potentially

giving rise to new armed groups or intensifying existing conflicts.

Stability and peace should be prioritized for the well-being of the people in Mindanao.

Moreover, secession would challenge the unity and integrity of the Philippines as a nation. The first two articles of the 1987 Philippine Constitution put emphasis on the country’s territorial integrity, saying that the Armed Forces of the Philippines must work “to secure the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of the national territory.” This call could have a ripple effect on other regions, potentially encouraging similar movements in different parts of the country. Preserving national unity is crucial for the progress and development of the Philippines as a whole.

Approaching the aforementioned issue requires careful consideration and comprehen-

sive analysis. While the potential negative effects outlined here are hypothetical, they underscore the need for thoughtful deliberation and dialogue. Any decision should be based on a thorough understanding of the potential consequences on politics, economy, social cohesion, and security.

Further, the issue of Mindanao’s secession needs to find common ground and work towards inclusive solutions that address the underlying issues faced by these people. By fostering dialogue, promoting understanding, and investing in sustainable development, everyone can strive for a united future that respects the aspirations and rights of all Filipinos. Only through a united and collaborative effort can we work towards a brighter future for Mindanao and the entire Philippines.

Independence may present an opportunity to break free from the cycle of violence and establish a durable peace but could also escalate security concerns, potentially giving rise to new armed groups or intensifying existing conflicts.

Political Power Play: The Duterte-Marcos Showdown

At the core of Philippine politics, a major confrontation has ignited between former President Rodrigo Duterte and his successor, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This feud, filled with allegations and counter-allegations, has led to the dissolution of a previous alliance and the intensification of a major political disagreement in the country.

In one corner, we have Rodrigo Duterte, who has fired a barrage of accusations at Marcos, labeling him a drug addict. Duterte, renowned for his uncompromising stance on drugs, has leveraged this claim to challenge Marcos’s fitness for leadership. The implications of the former president’s accusations are significant, as they could influence public sentiment and cast a pall over Marcos’s tenure.

In the opposing corner, current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has not only dismissed Duterte’s allegations but also retaliated against his accuser. Marcos has brushed off Duterte’s claims without providing a direct response to the allegations. Instead, he has counter-attacked by suggesting that Duterte himself is a user of fentanyl, a powerful opioid. This counter-claim serves to deflect the accusations against him and redirect the spotlight onto Duterte. In his defense, Marcos has chastised Duterte for publicly accusing him of illicit drug use. He has stood

[Mindful musings]

his ground and rejected the drug use allegations. This firm denial highlights his resolve to protect his reputation and credibility amidst these serious accusations.

The disagreement between Duterte and Marcos has escalated into a full-scale political conflict, leading to the breakdown of their alliance and creating a rift in Philippine politics. Both parties are using these accusations to undermine each other’s credibility, turning the political landscape into a battlefield. This ongoing feud is more than a mere personal quarrel between two political figures. It mirrors the intense political climate in the Philippines, where allegations can rapidly escalate into major disputes. As this drama continues to unfold, the Philippine public is closely watching, eager to see how this showdown between political heavyweights will shape the future of their nation.

“The disagreement between Duterte and Marcos has escalated into a full-scale political conflict, leading to the breakdown of their alliance and creating a rift in Philippine politics.

Philippine Charter Change:

Striking a Balance for Prosperity and Democracy

The push for charter change (colloquially cha-cha) in the Philippines has ignited heated debates, with President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration emphasizing the economic benefits and potential for increased foreign investment. While proponents argue for positive outcomes, it is crucial to examine both the advantages and disadvantages of this endeavor.

A look at history reveals that charter change has been a recurring topic in Philippine politics, with varying motivations and challenges. President Duterte’s focus on “economic” charter change aims to attract foreign investments and promote economic growth. However, it is important to recognize that different stakeholders and proponents may have different motivations and strategies.

The process of charter change involves amending provisions in the 1987 Constitution, requiring the support and approval of the Philippine Congress. Recent moves by President Duterte’s allies in Congress have reignited discussions on changing the fundamental law. Understanding the steps involved in the charter change process is essential to fully grasp the implications and potential consequences of any proposed amendments.

Breaking the Chains: A Bold Step Towards Empowering Education

In

With a stroke of a pen, Vice President and Secretary of Education, Sara Duterte, has ignited a new starting point that restores teachers to their rightful placeat the heart of the classroom. In a bold move to prioritize actual teaching time, she swiftly signed the historic policy just a day after her second Basic Education Report, fulfilling her promise to alleviate the administrative burden on our dedicated teachers.

This transformative decree marks a resounding victory for Filipino teachers who have tirelessly carried the weight of administrative tasks, robbing them of precious moments to engage, inspire, and connect with their students. Some of these tasks that will be removed from the workload of teachers as stated in the DepEd Order are Personnel Administration, Property/Physical Facilities Custodianship, Feeding Program, School DRRM, and other related programs.

Moreover, the impact of this policy cannot be overstated. By freeing teachers from administrative chains, we unlock a world of possibilities for our students. No longer burdened by paperwork and bureaucracy, teachers can wholeheartedly devote their attention

to nurturing young minds, fostering creativity, and instilling a lifelong love for learning. It is a seismic shift that promises to revolutionize education in the Philippines, unleashing the untapped potential of our nation’s greatest asset - our educators.

However, as with any transformative journey, there are challenges lie ahead. The removal of these tasks without thorough planning affect the overall efficiency and organization of the educational system. One example is the additional burden to the administrative staffs as they will carry the weight being left by the teachers. In addition, as every school needs more non-teaching staffs and supporting personnel to do the said responsibilities, where will the government get funds allocated for this policy?

Thus, the transition from administrative tasks to a renewed focus on teaching requires meticulous planning, comprehensive support systems, and ongoing professional development. It is imperative that the government, education stakeholders, and teachers themselves join forces to ensure a seamless shift and provide the necessary resources for success.

Together, a vibrant and dynamic learning environment that celebrates their expertise, values their time, and empowers them to unlock the limitless potential within each and every student can be created. The time for change is now. Everyone must seize the moment and embark on a journey that will redefine education, forever transforming the lives of the students and paving the way for a brighter future for generations to come.

Proponents highlight the potential economic benefits of loosening foreign ownership restrictions. Allowing greater foreign participation in key industries is believed to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and stimulate economic growth. Charter change also presents an opportunity to promote economic liberalization by removing protectionist protain. Critics express concerns about potential negative consequences, such as increased inequality and exploitation. The transition to a federal form of government raises questions about feasibility, impact, and potential unintended consequences on governance and resource allocation.

As discussions on charter change continue, it is crucial to strike a balance between economic potential and democratic principles. Economic growth should not overshadow the importance of

upholding democratic values, protecting citizens’ rights, and ensuring equitable development. Transparent and inclusive processes are essential to address the concerns of various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, marginalized communities, and regional representatives.

In conclusion, charter change in the Philippines holds the potential for economic benefits, but caution is necessary to consider the risks and safeguard democratic principles. Informed and inclusive dialogue is imperative, considering diverse perspectives and aspirations.

By striking the right balance, the Philippines can navigate charter change in a way that fosters inclusive growth, upholds democratic institutions, and improves the lives of its citizens.

As discussions on charter change continue, it is crucial to strike a balance between economic potential and democratic principles.

Sara Duterte’s Basic Education Report: A Closer Look [Voice for the Nation]

Sara Duterte, the Secretary of Education, recently presented the latest basic education report to the Congress, highlighting improvements in literacy rates and classroom facilities nationwide. While the report shows an increase in the literacy rate from 95.4% in 2015 to 97.5% in 2023, it’s essential to recognize persistent disparities, especially in rural and underserved regions.

Despite overall progress, rural areas still face challenges such as overcrowded classrooms and limited access to resources. According to a study by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), students in rural areas lack access to quality education compared to their urban counterparts. This underscores the need for targeted interventions to address the specific needs of marginalized communities.

Moreover, socioeconomic factors significantly impact educational outcomes, yet the report seems to downplay their influence.

Poverty remains a barrier to education, with households below the poverty line experiencing limited access to resources. Dr. Ana Reyes, a social economist, highlights the strong correlation between socioeconomic status and educational

While challenges persist, support for Sara Duterte’s initiatives stems from a belief in the transformative power of education.

The World Bank has praised the administration’s focus on education reform, citing increased investment in teacher training and infrastructure development. Dr. Maria Cruz, an education advocate, acknowledges Duterte’s commitment to reform and its potential to positively impact Filipino students’ lives.

A survey by UNICEF highlights the positive correlation between parental involvement and academic success. Dr. Jose Garcia, a child development specialist, emphasizes the importance of inclusive policies that prioritize community involvement and support systems to ensure every child has an equal opportunity to learn.

In conclusion, while progress has been made in improving basic education in the Philippines, challenges such as disparities in rural areas and the influence of socioeconomic factors persist. By acknowledging these challenges and prioritizing inclusive policies, we can work towards a more equitable and inclusive education system that empowers all Filipino students to succeed.

Friday’: A Game-Changer in Bridging Educational Gaps

Navigating the intricate terrain of 21st-century education calls for innovative strategies to tackle the challenges we encounter. A shining example of such initiative is the ‘Catch-up Friday’ program. This educational intervention was launched by the Department of Education on January 12, 2024. It is designed to bridge

June to March School Calendar: Embracing the Past

Alot of people, particularly students, are whining about the summer heat as they have to go to school in the heat throughout August to May. Therefore, the Department of Education (DepEd) is slowly transitioning to revert back to the old June-March school calendar from the current August-May school calendar starting S.Y. 2024-2025. Will this be a good or bad idea?

I believe that the reversion of the old school calendar would bring many positive effects not just to the students but as well as the teachers. They will be able to avoid the harsh heat and mitigate the health risks associated with the hot and dry months, reducing heat-related illnesses and dehydration.

Moreover, the school would have plenty of time to prepare for any school activities. According to a filipino teacher at CNHS, because the S. Y. 2023-2024 started at Aug. 29, 2023, they didn’t have enough time to prepare for the Buwan ng Wika.

Another advantages of reverting back the old school calendar are the students and teachers would not suffer from not being able to utilize school comfort

rooms because of the scarcity of water. Also, they would be able to enjoy their summer vacation and engage in many different summer activities rather than being in school during summer.

Nevertheless, I think that if DepEd revert back the old school calendar, it would come along with downsides. The current school year would be rushed, and many school events are at risk of cancellation, like the Mapeh Culmination.

In addition, reverting back to the June-March school calendar would require significant adjustment period for students, teachers, and schools. It would need adequate preparations to minimize disruptions.

As we revert back to the familiar rhythm of June-March school calendar, we are faced with the advantages and disadvantages that comes along with it.

However, this transition serves as a reminder of our resilience and adaptability. As we embrace the old, we are also welcoming a brighter future. Let’s welcome June with open arms, ready to learn, grow, and flourish.

a groundbreaking leap towards educational liberation, the Philippines is witnessing a monumental transformation in the role of teachers. The Department of Education (DepEd) recently issued an order, DO 002, S. 2024, on January 26, 2024, championing the immediate removal of burdensome administrative duties from the teachers. What’s New in My Beloved Coco Town?

Upon my arrival in the cherished town of Coco yesterday, following an hour-long journey from Manila, I couldn’t help but be struck by the remarkable transformation it has undergone. What was once a quaint locale has now evolved into a flourishing town that thrives with time, boasting numerous establishments, exquisite restaurants, and pristine beaches that offer exceptional service to its visitors. Undoubtedly, “CHANGE IS INEVITABLE.”

Situated in the province of Leyte, Philippines, my beloved Coco town stands as a 4th class municipality, encompassing 53 barangays and hosting a population of 31,646 people as per the 2020 census. Its allure lies in a rich cultural heritage and natural wonders that captivate both visitors and locals alike. Historical accounts reveal that the town was originally named EULALIA after a prominent lady resident who planted the first coconut tree. Over the years, it underwent a series of transformations, eventually adopting the name CALUBIAN, inspired by the vast coconut plantations that grace its terrain.

To celebrate the bountiful harvest of coconut trees, Calubian became renowned for its LUBI-LUBI FESTIVAL—a lively, colorful celebration featuring dances utilizing the town’s abundant coconut plants as materials. This festival stands as a testament to the town’s cultural richness and festive spirit.

Growing up in Calubian has been an enriching experience for many, including myself. Beyond its cultural richness, my beloved town offers breathtakingly beautiful sceneries. The OUR LADY OF FATIMA PARISH CHURCH,

symbolizing the Roman Catholic faith of the Calubianons, stands proudly in the town proper. For relaxation, the TOWN’S PARK facing Biliran Island provides a picturesque setting, allowing one to witness the sunrise and relish the gentle sea breeze from the Biliran strait.

Satisfying your culinary cravings is easy with exquisite restaurants like THE MAGIC OVEN AND MELTING POT. Heading north, the MIRACULOUS SHRINE OF SAINT THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS in Brgy. Obispo beckons those seeking a spiritual experience.

If you’re inclined to take a dip, the town offers a variety of beautiful beaches such as Lotus Beach, Coco Cabana Resort, Palanas Beach, Bobs Beach, and Ilang Joy Beach.

Beyond its natural beauty, what sets our town apart is its close-knit community. From community events and festivals to local sports teams, there’s always something happening that brings us together. This sense of unity and belonging fosters a strong support system that makes Calubian truly feel like home.

am filled with gratitude for the experiences and memories my hometown has provided me. From our rich cultural heritage, superb restaurants, and stunning beaches to the tight-knit community, Calubian holds a special place in my heart. It has shaped me into the person I am today, instilling in me a love for nature, community, and history. Proudly calling Calubian my home, I extend an invitation for you to explore its treasures and beauty. After a decade away, find myself asking, “What’s new in my beloved Coco town?”

Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and its Miraculous Tale

“Miracles happen when you believe!”

This quote sounds simple, but it leaves an indelible mark in my mind and soul.

It was October 12, 2023, when my mom and I went to the shrine of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus in Brgy. Obispo, Calubian, Leyte. From the town proper, we rode a motorcycle for 10 minutes going to our destination. The shrine is not only a tourist destination but also considered as a holy place, especially for Catholic Christians, as it is widely known for its miracles.

Since the shrine was on a hilltop, we had to climb 97 steps for us to reach the entrance of the chapel. The very first thing you’ll see is a statue of St. Therese adorned with red roses along her feet. To her right was a statue of the Last Supper and behind her was the shrine. I was breathless from that arduous climb, but when we reached the top, I could not help but be fascinated with the mesmerizing view of the beautiful shores of Calubian and the scenic coastlines of the adjacent island of Biliran Island, separated by sparkling cyan waters.

Facing Biliran Island, I can see its panoramic mountain view while beholding the sunrise and relishing the gentle sea breeze coming from Calubian Bay. I continued to roam around, this time on the other side of the hill. Below, I immediately saw the impressive statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, facing the island. Progressing to the next hill were remarkable full-sized statues depicting the different Stations of the Cross, ranging from the lower part of the next hill up to its peak overlooking the entire place.

This beautiful place was never new to me, but I still get fascinated by this haven every time my mom, a devotee, and I would visit. The miracles of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus were manifested in our lives. My mom once told me that she asked for the presence of the Holy Spirit and the intervention of Saint Therese for her to bear a child as she had some difficulties in giving birth. With an ardent heart, she continued to pray until one fateful day her prayer was answered. She conceived and gave birth to a lovely baby girl - me! My existence is a living proof of this wonder. Happiness filled our family, and they were very grateful to Saint Therese for her miracle.

Stories of the miraculous interventions of St. Therese were known to many locals. The shrine, itself, experienced a miracle. One of which was the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a photograph. The locals once said that on August 8, 2008, a photographer took a photo of the Calubian Bay on top of the new way of the cross, and then out of a sudden an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in the photo, inspired by this miracle,

the family who owned the area where the shrine was built decided to erect the image of Our Lady of Fatima near the spot where the photographer stood.

Another miracle that locals would share with every visitor happened on the night of October 10, 2009, when workers were burning their midnight candles just to finish the expansion of the chapel, suddenly, a problem occurred. The scissors for cutting galvanized steel were lost. They searched everywhere but they could not find it. The situation seemed hopeless until a dog, out of nowhere, came carrying a pair of ordinary scissors in his mouth. Then, the workers manage to work and finish their tasks before daybreak. Since then, the Shrine of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus has become popular not only for its astonishing views but also for its miracles. Many believers from across the country would travel far to offer their petitions and prayers, hoping that one day, they, too will experience their miracle.

Against All Odds: A True Success Tale

There are strands of tenacity, resolve, and undaunted faith embedded in the hearts of those who persevere and rise above life’s adversities.

This is the story of Sherwin Sarzuelo, top 8 in the Licensure Examination for Teachers last 2023, and Danica Chong Baterna, top 9 in Radio Technologists Board Examination last 2023, whose hard work and determination led them to top in their respective licensure examinations.

In a coil of economic constraints, he opted to take the path less traveled, choosing an online review course before taking the test. Even with an anxious heart, he was determined. He persisted in his review at home, with only the corners of his room as witness to his silent cries of trepidation while burning the midnight candles. Alas! All his efforts culminated in a sweet, triumphant result exceeding his wildest imagination. This has proved not only his academic ability but also his relentless and consistent determination.

Similarly, Danica’s journey was yet another remarkable story of success. A combination of formidable determination and strategic planning, she surmounted to the top. From enrolling in the BSRT program to topping the board exam, every step and every turn was chest rated with precision and intent. However, the path to her success was an uphill battle. But her unwavering commitment to her goals, coupled with her meticulous approach, paved the way for her success. Danica’s narrative reminds us that success is not merely a destination, but a journey fueled by passion and purpose.

Beyond their accolades and achievements, Sherwin and Danica embody fiery spirits, burning brightly even in the darkest of nights, unyielding to any adversity. Marked by hard work and dedication, their stories are not just tales of triumph, but are beacons of hope, guiding us through our trials and tribulations. Having a Man is Only a Mere Illusion

“First love never dies”

This adage reminded me of my unforgettable love experience. That was the time when Cupid hit my heart with his bow and arrow giving me the tingling sensation I couldn’t barely explain. Yes, my friends were right, you can only know the real definition of love when you, yourself, experience love itself. It was Sunday morning and I couldn’t have the power to get up, as if the bed is still wanting me to lie on top of it. Until something warm touches my face that brought me into confusion. Perhaps, its just the rays of the sun that brought my feet flat on the floor. Things were a bit different on that day. I have started my household chores early without hesitation and complaint in order to finish it as early as possible allocating ample time to the person whom I will be meeting f or the first time. I have been constantly watching the clock every now and then as its hands move little by little. I can even barely hear the sound of it, tic-tac, tic-tac. Time came that I have to get dressed putting on the best I got from my closet. It seemed that things were already in order, but I can’t deny the fact that I felt the butterflies circulating in my stomach. It was bothersome though but it didn’t hinder me in pursuing on what have been scheduled on that day. I have clearly preconditioned my mind to disregard minor incidents I might encountered and just focus on what have been prioritized- the meet up. I immediately went to the garage where my car was parked and drove my way to Don Rafael’s Restaurant, our rendezvous. I was so excited because at least I will be meeting the person whom I fancy so much for so many years. For me, this meet up was a dream come true. My heart beats fast as I trembled walking in. It blended with the momentum when I saw a man standing beside the table looking at me with a big smile. He was so enchanting. I can’t barely imagine his handsome face staring at me with full of love and happiness. Especially, when Micheal called me, Nicole, I’m over here. It has been a long time that we planned this meet up and finally it was now realized. I went where he stands, then he offered me in gentle manner a seat. I don’t know what to do when his hand touches my hand as he assisted me in sitting in the chair. I felt the tingling sensation that I could hardly understand. Is this love? Is this the beginning of my love story? Those are the questions that came into my mind. So nice to hear because it sounds exciting. We continue with a tete-a-tete conversation while eating. I was then a little bit hesitant of my action in the sense, that I was pre-occupied with the situation that definitely I am now talking to the man I love. After eating, he invited me to a dance. He immediately holds my hand and we dance for a couple of hours. I was very happy at that moment because that was my first romantic dance through out my entire life. How I wish the time will never stop as we dance gracefully to the romantic beat of the music! After dancing, Michael touches my face and plan to kiss me when a sudden loud voice coming from the door caught my attention. Nicole get up! It’s almost 8am. Remember, you need to do the laundry! It was the voice of my mom who wake me up. Then I realized that I was just only day dreaming. At that moment, having a man is just only a mere illusion.

FACING THE FIRE: Confronting the Realities of Temperature Threat

n recent years, the issue of global warming has become a pressing concern for scientist, policymakers, and individuals worldwide. The Earth’s climate is rapidly changing, with significant consequences for our planet’s ecosystem, weather patterns, and the well-being of future generations. As we stand at a critical juncture in the fight against climate change, it is imperative that we emphasize the importance of global collaboration in addressing the global crisis.

“...a historical film, offers a poignant and enticing portrayal of the sacrifices and struggles faced by these courageous priests as they fought against injustice and inequality

“GomBurZa” a Philippine historical biographical film directed by Pepe Diokno, tells a compelling story of faith, bravery, and patriotism by three Filipino Catholic priests - Mariano Gomes (Dante Rivero), José Burgos (Cedrick Juan), and Jacinto Zamora (Enchong Dee) or collectively known as “GomBurZa”- who were executed in the latter years by Spanish authorities leading to a significant moment in the Philippine history. The film opens with a schism of secular and Spanish priests foreshadowing the dilemma in this film. from the recollection of Hermano Pule, a Filipino clergyman discriminated and rejected to be included as a Catholic clergyman for being an indio. The story progresses with Piolo Pascual’s brief appearance as Father Pedro Pelaez whose insistent call for church secularization has inspired his protégé, Juan’s Jose Burgos, to strive for Philippine independence. Grounded on the insights of Christianity, his liberal ways and teachings threatened the Spanish authorities leading to his unjust accusation of treason and were sentenced to death, together with Rivero’s Father Gomes and Dee’s Father Zamora. Their execution gnited a renewed nationalism among Filipinos, which eventually led to the Philippine revolution.

A powerhouse of commendable cast. The MMFF Best Actor winner Cedrick Juan’s portrayal to Father Burgos’ character was highly acclaimed giving an honest performance on his courage, wit, and determination. Along with the performances of seasoned actor Dante Rivero, movie heartthrob Piolo Pascual and cinema mainstay Enchong Dee whose acting complemented each portrayal, giving depth and authenticity to the film. Their narrative is depicted in this stirring and inspirational historical drama which permits all characters to provide a gripping exchange of dialogue full of grit and soul. Moreover, the storyline takes the viewers on a journey back in time, making it an immersive cinematic experience.

What should be regarded alongside such compelling acting, is the evident effort of the team to conduct extensive research to offer historical accuracy. This proves the successful collaboration among Jesuit Communications, various historians, writers, and the director, to ascertain that the film would capture truthful accounts in the past and reveal the truth in this historic event. Its precision is etched through a noteworthy craftsmanship of the costumes, production set, and musicality while depicting dark hues which created a somber and intense atmosphere for a more captivating watch.

More than just a historical film, “Gomburza” offers a poignant and enticing portrayal of the sacrifices and struggles faced by these courageous priests as they fought against injustice and inequality. The film was able to shed light on the historical significance of the Gomburza and their impact on the Filipino people’s pursuit to defy social discrimination and oppression. This beautiful piece instills a valuable lesson among its audiences to recognize past events and learn from them. It is indeed, a must-watch not only for history enthusiasts but moviegoers alike.

Global warming is an undeniable reality, supported by scientific evidence. Rising temperatures, melting ice caps, and extreme weather events are visible signs of climate change. It is crucial to acknowledge the severity of the problem and the urgent need for action.

Technology plays a crucial role in the fight against global warming. Advancements in renewable energy, carbon capture, and sustainable agriculture present promising solutions to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy. It is imperative that people should embrace and allocate resources towards these technologies to ensure a sustainable future.

Addressing the intricate challenges of climate change necessitates global collaboration. No individual country or organization can single-handedly combat global warming. International cooperation is vital for the exchange of knowledge, resources, and best practices in order to formulate effective strategies and policies. Governments and policymakers have a crucial role in propelling climate action. Through the establishment of robust policies and regulations, they can encourage sustainable practices, advocate for the adoption of renewable energy and enforce targets for reducing emissions. The plot revolves around the struggles of John (Dingdong Dantes), a hardworking employee for a wine company and a dedicated father and husband to his son Austin (John Lim) and wife Mary (Marian Rivera). One day, while on their way to attend an event, a heated argument erupted between them which escalated immediately leading to a fatal car accident. Through a divine intervention, he went back in time to make up for all his shortcomings to his family, especially to his wife, Mary.

As the story unfolds, the real-life couple, Dantes and Rivera, gave life to the characters with their undeniable chemistry and exceptional performance. ccording to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), teenage pregnancy rates were 5.4 percent in 2022. While pregnancy dropped in the recent years, the consequences is still lingering in impoverished areas scattered throughout the country leaving future generations in a cycle of poverty.

Giving birth at a young age is risky for both adolescents and infants. The Department of Health (DOH) stated that, teenage pregnancy maternal mortality is two to five times more than adult women.

Additionally, adolescents are at much higher risk of diseases such as eclampsia, puerperal endometritis, and systemic infections. Aside from higher risk of death and disease,

“Increasing adolescent and youth protection by educating them about sexuality will make them more aware of the consequences of unprotected sex.

According to the Philippine Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), 40 percent of young Filipino mothers were counted among the poorest of the population in 2020.

Limited opportunities to pursue higher education and profession is the reality for most teenage mothers. Due to the responsibility of taking care of an infant, young mothers are more focused on providing their child’s needs. Having a child as an adolescent drops the chances of pursuing a higher education by 12 to 24 percent according to a study by Ravinder Barn and Nadia Mantovani.

In conclusion, underage mothers often have a hard time living and providing a comfortable life for

their children due to limited opportunities. Increasing adolescent and youth protection by educating them about sexuality will make them more aware of the consequences of unprotected sex.

Additionally, promoting the use of contraceptives will also aid in the reduction of unwanted pregnancy. According to Guttmacher Institute, without contraceptives, there would be 1.3 million more unplanned births, 0.9 million more abortions, and 3,500 more maternal death annually.

In this regard, promoting openness and no judgement to these mothers will reduce the heavy weight that they carry, and remind them that they have people and organizations that support them.

For tea enthusiasts, the quest for the perfect cup of tea is a never-ending journey. But did you know that the secret to unlocking a whole new level of flavor lies in the microscopic world of microbes? These tiny organisms have the remarkable ability to transform the taste and aroma of your favorite tea, elevating your tea drinking experience to new heights.

The Magic of Microbes: Fermentation, a process driven by microbes, is a key technique used to enchance the flavor of tea. Microbes such as bacteria and fungi interact with the leaves, breaking down complex compounds and releasing new flavons and arómas. This transformation can result in a more robust, complex, and nuanced taste profile. Certain types of tea, such as pu-erh and kombucha rely on specific microbal partners to achieve their distinct flavors. Pu-erh, for example, undergoes a microbial fermentation process that can span several years, resulting Ina rich, earthy, and aged flavor. kombucha, on the other hand, is fermented with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, which imparts a tangy and effervescent quality to tea. Microbes not only enhance the overall flavor of tea but also contribute to specific flavor profiles. For instance, certain bacteria can produce fruity or floral notes, while others can create earthy or nutty undertones. By understanding the role of different fermentation techniques and microbal cultures to tailor the flavor of their tea to their personal preferences. To boost the flavor of your favorite tea with the help of microbes, you can explore the art of tea fermentation at home. This can involve controlled fermentation processes, such as aging tea leaves in a controlled environment, or experimenting with microbial cultures to introduce specific flavors. It’s important to note that the fermentation process requires careful monitoring and adherance to proper hygiene practices to ensure safety and quality.

In the world of tea, the possibilities for flavor exploration are endless. By harnessing the power of microbes, tea enthusiasts can embark on a journey of discovery, unlocking new dimensions of taste and aroma in their favorite brews. Whether it’s through traditional fermentation methods or innovative home experiments, the collaboration between humans and microbes offers a tantalizing path to elevate the tea-drinking experience.

Solid waste management is a critical issue facing schools across the Philippines. As educational institutions, schools have a responsibility to educate students about environmental stewardship and to practice what they preach. Yet, many schools struggle with managing their own waste effectively.

One of the key challenges is the lack of awareness and education about proper waste management practices. Students and staff often do not know how to segregate waste correctly or understand the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials. This lack of knowledge leads to improper disposal of waste, which can have serious environmental consequences.

Another challenge is the lack of infrastructure and resources for waste management. Many schools do not have adequate bins for segre-

To address these challenges, schools need to take a proactive approach to solid waste management. This includes educating students and staff about proper waste management practices, providing adequate bins for segregating waste, and establishing partnerships with local recycling facilities.

By taking these steps, schools can not only reduce their environmental impact but also educate the next generation of environmental stewards. Solid waste management may seem like a daunting challenge, but with the right education and infrastructure, schools can make a significant impact on the environment.

Hidden beneath the heavily cratered surface of Mimas, one of Saturn’s smallest moons, lies a secret: a global ocean of liquid water. This astonishing discovery, led by Dr. Valéry Lainey of the Observatoire de Paris-PSL and published in the journal Nature, reveals a “young” ocean formed just 5 to 15 million years ago, making Mimas a prime target for studying the origins of life in our Solar System.

“Mimas is a small moon, only about 400 Kilometers in diameter, and its heavily cratered surface gave no hint of the hidden ocean beneath,” says Dr. Nick Cooper, a co-autha of the study and Honorary Research Fellow in the Astronomy Unit of the school of Physical and chemical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London. This young age, determined through detailed analysis of Mimas’s tidal interactions with saturn, suggests the ocean formed recently, based on the discovery of an unexpected irregularity in its orbit.

As a result, Mimas provides a unique window into the early stages of ocean formation and the potential for life to emerge. The discovery was made possible by analysing data from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, which meticulously Studied Saturn and its moons for over a decade. By closely examining the subtle changes in Mimas’s Orbit, the researchers were able to infer the presence of a hidden ocean and estimate its size and depth.

The discovery of Mimas’s young ocean has a significant implication for our understanding of the potential for life beyond Earth. It suggests that even small, seemingly inactive moons can harbor hidden oceans capable of supporting life-essential conditions. This opens up exciting news avenues for future exploration, potentially leading us closer to answering the age-old question: are we alone in the universe?

Empowering Student Athletes through LGU’s Support

In recent years, the partnership between local governments and educational institutions has been strengthened to foster holistic development in students, including those who excel in athletic fields. This collaborative approach is evident as municipalities across the nation are increasingly investing time, resources, and infrastructure to support their homegrown student-athletes.

The benefits of this alliance extend far beyond sports achievements. By providing opportunities for young athletes to thrive both academically and competitively, communities can nurture future leaders with strong character traits such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. As local governments recognize these advantages, they’re actively engaging in initiatives that promote the wellbeing and success of student-athletes.

One example of this commitment is the establishment of stateof-the-art facilities designed specifically for youth sports programs. These venues not only improve accessibility but also provide safe environments where children can

develop essential skills under professional guidance.

Moreover, many cities have implemented scholarship programs aimed at financially assisting talented athletes pursuing higher education while continuing their sport careers.

Local governments are also working closely with schools to ensure proper coaching standards, fair competition rules, and adequate medical care during practices and games. Furthermore, some municipalities offer specialized training camps and workshops led by experienced coaches and mentors from various sports disciplines. This symbiotic relationship between local governments and educational institutions fosters a sense

of community pride and unity among residents. It encourages families to invest more time and energy into their children’s extracurricular activities, knowing that their efforts will be supported by dedicated public officials committed to the growth and prosperity of all citizens.

As we continue to witness the positive impact of local government involvement in school sports, it becomes clear that this collaboration represents much more than just financial investment or political strategy; rather, it signifies a shared vision for a better tomorrow—one built upon the strength and potential of our youngest generation.
