EMERGENCE BIOTECH HQ CHARLOTTE, NC
To further the technological and creative interests of both the client and the public, breaking from the mundane repetitive nature typical of office tower construction will occur by implementing bridge-like makerspaces, connecting the vertical realms of the tower in unprecedented ways, offering an organically shifting work environment of collaboration and cohesion. In turn, an architecture of transparency, dynamism, and multiplicity is created.

GATEWAY STATION MASTER PLAN CHARLOTTE, NC ESTABLISHED
The proposed site measures 4,750 FT. long, with diverse and key proximities. The design incorporates the City of Charlotte’s future plan to implement a multimodal Gateway station that activates the existing rail way, the planned street car and bus activity currently in the city. In its current condition, the railway divides the west and the east side of Charlotte

CLT / GFRP - THESIS A PARAMETRIC COMPOSITE
THESIS STATEMENT Cross laminated timber is an emerging and proven technology for all scales of design and is effective for structure, cladding and finish. Being constructed uniformly of wood and adhesive produces limitations both structurally and formally. By computationally rethinking the architecture of this composite make-up, through strategically adding fiber glass reinforced polymers (FRP) and implementing timber modifications, the designer can gain complete control over optimizing this technology.
“TIMBER IN THE SKY” CONCEPT
WHY? According to the United Nations, 54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas. This is projected to be 66 per cent by 2050. This presents a need to build fast. In the commercial building industry wood has traditionally been marginalized as an option only for interior finish but, technology now makes wood a strong competitor to steel and concrete for building tall and wide. Mass timber is the solution for developing urban environments in the 21st century because of its environmental benefits, construction ease (related to fabrication, assembly, time and cost) and for its material characteristics at the human scale.

STRUCTURE, CONNECTION, MATERIAL A TINY SCULPTURE 7
This sculpture illustrates an intentional multiplicity of structure, connection and material. It is a composition of stainless steel, mild steel, corten steel, brass and rockite. Stainless steel wire is fed through the rockite body and into the hollow corten box, servicing the two mild steel tab inserts. The wire is tensioned by the weight of the box that hangs on the front insert and is held by the barrel nut pressing on the back insert.

EXTRAPOLATING THREE DIMENSIONS A MARCEL DUCHAMP PAINTING Through rigurous diagraming, the intention of this creative endeavour was to extrapolate three dimensionality out of a Cubist painting. Given the 3D basis of Cubism, the goal was not to find the artist’s original intent but rather distile a new space based on the painting itself.
