Ridley Road Market is a place where different cultures meet. A place full of diversity in colours, smells, sounds and people. During observations of how the visitors of the market acted, reacted and behaved in the market, what we noticed is that most of them were looking down. They were looking at goods, the pavement, mobile phones, but not each other, as if they didn’t care what was going on around. People are so preoccupied that, sometimes, neglect the small details that enrich their lives and forget to appreciate the world around them. Inspired by the phrase “people wear blinders, we came up with the idea of creating two pairs of glasses that acted as blinders, one making them question what they spend their time on, not really experiencing life around them, and another one that changed their perception, forcing them to look upwards and allowing them to see life from a different angle, enabling them to discover details of the market that they may have missed otherwise.

THE MANIFESTO 1. You cannot have a worthwhile conversation with someone if they are “wearing blinders”.
8. Slow down, look around, take a deep breath and absorb the moment of where you are.
3. To have a full understanding of your sense of place, you must first alter your habits of perception.
9. Change your perspective on life and all that it has to offer.

10. Looking down is not always the same as looking up.

6. Appreciate what you can see; some people don’t have the option.
“What do you see?” “The pavement and the sky. It makes you think about the weather. I haven’t really looked at the titles of the buildings before or the height of them or the cameras looking down.”
funny it makes you feel like you ‘ve gone “ It’s to the cinema as well. It makes everything
more theatrical, more cinematic.
”
be honest I feel not very “ To certain, like I see for the
first time, wow. It’s an uncomfortable feeling I have to admit. It’s very different.
It’s a new experience.
”
feel more stable. I feel private. I can “ Ikeep my self to my self. I feel much more private like I am in my world. I feel more confident. I am outside of my usual comfy zone, I feel more confident and mysterious.” “People are watching you” “I am not looking at them which
makes me feel I am more important than them, I feel like I have an advantage.
”
feel completely exposed, very vulner“ Iable, less mysterious, less confident.
I feel left out, left out from every-
body else because I am missing out what’s happening around me. With the other glasses I could see but only what I wanted to see. Now I don’t see at all, danger everywhere. The good thing is that you see the beauty of the sky, though. I can see tiny bits in the sky now, tiny little spaces in the sky that I wouldn’t have seen if I wasn’t starring at the sky for so long.
”
see anyone. All I can see “Iiscan’t the sky. Just the sky, nothing
else. Just the sky and lampposts and rooftops.. Rooftops, lamppost, clouds, sky.
”
“We want to make you change the way you see, because people normally look down” “I never look down, though. I always look up. That’s why I am very clumsy. I normally trip over staff”
“...Changed my perception. Wow!”
