Year 7 Mothers’ and Sons’ Breakfast

Year 7 Mothers’ and Sons’ Breakfast

Yesterday morning I was lucky enough to attend a wonderful Year 7 Mums’ and Sons’ Breakfast. Our guest speakers were Cooper Carbone (Year 8) and School Captain Jack Amling (Year 12) who shared with us their personal reflections of school life at Camberwell Grammar School, and particularly their memories as students in Year 7. They also paid a lovely tribute to their Mums, and to all Mums. I am very grateful to the Development Office staff who organised a very enjoyable morning.

Year 9 and 10 Production I am pleased to invite you to the 2019 Year 9/10 production, 12 Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose and directed by Ms Penny Wood. The play depicts a jury sent to deliberate the outcome of a murder trial. What seems to be an open-and-shut case turns into an exploration of prejudice, class and morality. The cast will be doing one performance for parents and the school community on Thursday 4 April at 7.30pm in the Middleton Theatre. Bookings can be made through this TryBooking link www.trybooking.com/BBJEL. Further information can be found in the flyer attached to this Bulletin.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge 2019 We are once again promoting the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge for our Prep to Year 5 boys. The Premiers’ Reading Challenge encourages children to read a set number of books and record their efforts online. Prep to Grade 2 need to read 30 books and Years 3-5 need to read 15 books. It is a great way to get young people talking about reading with their friends and family to expand their reading scope. Details of the challenge including Book Lists and Rules can be obtained here. If your son is interested in becoming involved, please email Mrs Maryanne Walker in the Junior School Library at mhw@cgs.vic.edu.au by Friday March 29. Mrs Walker will need to register your son and then pass on his login details to you. You will then be able to set up his online account to log the books he reads as parents will be required to assist their sons with the online reading record. The Challenge will run from Monday 1 April at our School, through to the end of Book Week which finishes on 23 August.

Sport

The majority of sports have finished for the season however there is still plenty happening this weekend. Lawn Bowls have their finals, Squash have another round and Cycling, Kayaking and Triathlon have major events. The Swimming Squad also continues the preparations for the AGSV Finals night, being held at MSAC on Friday 22 March. Supporters are more than welcome and encouraged to attend the Swimming. Come to the Sports Office for more information. Some Winter Sport trials for Firsts teams have already commenced. Notifications have been published in the daily notices and if students are still unaware, they should contact the staff member in charge of the sport or see me in the Sports Office. Winter sport team lists and training schedules are now on display at the Sports Office. They have also been uploaded to the Sport TeamApp. Students should check which sport and team they have been allocated to. If there are any concerns, they need to consult me as soon as possible. Also, students wanting to trial for a higher graded team should attend the training session of the higher team but ensure they communicate with their allocated team’s staff member. It was excellent to see over 160 people at the Basketball presentation night on Wednesday evening. We were entertained by guest speaker, Felix van Hofe and acknowledged the students who made significant contributions to their team. Cricket are next to host their presentation evening on Monday, followed by Tennis on Friday 29 March. Swimming rounds out the presentation evenings on Wednesday 3 April. Be sure to come along to the evenings. They are always great fun! Colours for Firsts teams are being determined and will be advertised at the Sports Office soon. Students will be notified through daily notices. When they are published, students will have one week to view and make any disputes. Running sessions with Craig Mottram and his team continue for the remainder of Term 1 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The sessions start at 6.45am on the KAO and are open to students of all ages and abilities. The focus of the sessions is to improve running technique, endurance and speed. The sessions are a great way to prepare for the Winter season.
