Make the most of summer days in the city’s beautiful open spaces. Organised by Cambridge City Council, Summer In The City is an exciting range of fun activities taking place from June to September in Cambridge. Midsummer Fair is one of the country’s oldest and biggest travelling fun fairs and markets where you can enjoy candy floss, toffee apples and the thrill of the big white knuckleride. Jazz and Brass in the Parks is a series of six Sunday concerts throughout the summer weeks that take place in Cambridge’s beautiful leafy parks.
Selected Sundays from June to September 3 – 5pm From June to September there will be jazz and brass bands playing in Cambridge’s parks and open spaces for you to enjoy. Each event is entirely FREE, so just turn up, bring a picnic, enjoy the sounds and relax in the cooling summer breeze!
One of Summer In The City’s main highlights is of course the Big Weekend on Parker’s Piece! And this year’s is particularly special with UNISON, one of the country’s biggest unions, marking its 20th birthday by teaming up with Cambridge City Council to celebrate. Enjoy three days of free music and attractions at the UNISON Birthday Big Weekend. Everyone’s invited!

UNISON’s 20th Birthday
Friday 5 July Wednesday 19 – Monday 24 June Midsummer Common This ancient fair has been visiting the city’s Midsummer Common for over 800 years, making it one of the country’s oldest travelling fun fairs. The first day of the fair sees the Mayor and other members of the Council continuing the age old tradition of parading and proclaiming the fair open by scattering pennies to the crowd. Come down at 6.30pm on the opening Wednesday evening for a truly special and historical spectacle. Featuring all the rides associated with a traditional fun fair, and the very best white-knuckle rides, you can also expect the usual fun of the fair including candyfloss, hot dogs, toffee apples and more. Parker’s Piece 6pm – 10.15pm UNISON, one of the country’s biggest unions, is marking its 20th birthday by teaming up with Cambridge City Council to celebrate with three days of free entertainment at the UNISON Birthday Big Weekend. It kicks off on Friday night with an evening of live music on the main stage, followed by a spectacular fireworks display to put everyone in the mood for a jam-packed weekend.

John Coghlan’s Quo
Featuring original Status Quo drummer John Coghlan, the band will perform Status Quo hits and album favourites from the Coghlan years.

One of the most successful pop bands to come out of the 70s, hits include Emma, Disco Queen, You Sexy Thing and Everyone’s a Winner.

The UNISON Village – Sat & Sun UNISON is proud to be the main sponsor for the Big Weekend and invites you to visit the UNISON Village over the weekend. There will be free tea and cake to celebrate their 20th Birthday, kids can meet Harry the Owl and enter the Ollie the Octopus competition, and there will also be a Cuban band on the Sunday. Find out about UNISON’s history and what they do, plus much, much more. The UNISON Village is the place to be with lots to do and see for all ages at the Big Birthday Weekend.

Interactive unusual art workshops and activities, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Football Association club rules. Artwork produced on the day will not only be exhibited in the marquee gallery but will also be on show at a Changing Spaces exhibition on King Street in August.
The UNISON Birthday Big Weekend concludes on Sunday with a vibrant and relaxing day of international music and culture. Cambridge Mela One of the city’s most popular summer events, the Cambridge Mela is now in its fourth year and one of the most up and coming in the country. There will be two marquees plus the Cambridge Mela Main Stage with music and dance from top national and local acts. The Mela Community Marquee and Mela Traders’ Marquee will feature Asian arts and crafts, fashion and delicious food!
Enjoy delicious produce from artisan breads to chilli products and watch the final of the Cambridge Bake Off, where the three remaining contestants will be revealing their Celebration Cakes. Watch them assemble their masterpieces and find out who will be crowned Cambridge Master Amateur Cake Baker! Supported by local family business Ridgeons.
