Time-Lapse Nikon Z6/7 Time-Lapse is a wonderful visual reference to a changing scene over time - shortened via Time-Lapse. The files can be used as a stand-alone video or incorporated into a broader reproduction, such as presentations and movies. The Nikon Z 6/7 cameras are extremely easy to setup, shoot and provide up to 8K TimeLapse. 4K Video can be shot to create a Movie File for immediate use, something Nikon has done well since it’s inception into the Nikon range some years ago. One of the additional features on the Z 7 and Z 6 is, that the electronic viewfinder and display can be switched off completely with the single click of a button on the left side of the viewfinder without affecting the other function of the camera. That’s the feature that time-lapse and astro photographers miss on other mirrorless cameras. This means that the camera can be operated in a dark and energy-saving manner for time lapse shooting with external triggering – even in silent mode. Through a variety of Apps - you can even control your Nikon externally to control many aspects of shooting allowing for extended time-lapse. Why I love working with animals My name is Alex Cearns and I’m a professional pet and animal photographer and

My Journey DAN AVILA - THE TRAVELLING PHOTOGRAPHER

Photography has changed my life. I don’t mean in some esoteric sense, I mean genuinely changed my life. I picked up a camera for the first meaningful time when I was 38 years old. I’m now 46 and I the travel world, continually commissioned to do shoots in bucket list locations with inspiring people. I still can’t sleep before a photoshoot. I’m not nervous about being able to get the shot, well not anymore. I’m just so excited. It is a genuine passion. I don’t like to think of myself as an outlier. I am a normal guy. I am the same as anyone else. I don’t have a long-term heritage with film and dark rooms, I am late to this photography party, but it just doesn’t matter. No matter the brand, the camera and lenses are so good now and the information is out there so ANYONE can do it. I really believe it. The joy of travel and taking photos is inextricably linked. It’s obvious. But now, with technology as good and cheap as it is, there is a chance for anyone to be great at photography and use it to live their dream. What gear do I use? The Canon 5D series remains my pick as the best all-round DSLR and the Canon 1DX Mk II is almost clairvoyant – it’s my

go-to solution for fast action, wildlife and scuba shoots. Canon L series glass is simply wonderful and will last a lifetime. It is always a good investment to buy good glass. My commercial primary shooter is the Fujifilm GFX50S medium format. This camera is a revolution and makes good photographers great. All of the Fujfilm GF lenses are blisteringly sharp and the lens stabilisation is almost unbelievable. More that 60% of all images I shoot are on the GFX50S with the GF32-64. Landscapes, architectural, portraiture, it doesn’t matter, this combination is a true joy. The new GF250 with 1.4 teleconverter is a wildlife superstar. My tip? Buy the best gear you can. I love travel. The thought of leaving day to day work pressures at home and travelling to exotic lands to capture new people and environments through my lenses excites and energizes me. I’m often asked to name the most important criteria to successful travel images. To me, it’s the ability to tell a story and the more the viewer can connect with the images, and where it takes place, the more value the photos have. Keep looking for interesting situations and when you find them, approach the opportunity the same way as a documentary photographer or videographer. The best stories are told by a selection of photos that capture the scene from different viewpoints. For example; an ‘establishing shot’ is generally a wide view that tells us where the story is taking place so we have a context to the story. For example, a wide shot of a city’s well-known landmarks may set the scene. Next, a medium-shot focusses on the main players or general landscape that brings us closer to where in the establishing shot, the story takes place. Finally, a close up gives us the fine details of what is going on. An example may be a wide shot of an open Asian market place with many stalls. A medium shot focuses on a man mending shoes in a corner. The close up shows details of his stained hands mending a shoe. Try the ‘documentary technique’ on your next travels. www.nickmelidonis.com
