A Note From the Director... As we enter the second year of the COVID-19 Pandemic, for practitioners of Theatre it is mostly a time of confusion - tinged with hope - as we all try to find a way to cope with the various ways that this has impacted us. From Broadway to the creative dramatics’ kindergarten classroom, the past year has been a process of redefining what it means to create Theatre in a world where you can’t gather together safely. No one I know of has claimed to find a solution to this riddle and all who have grappled with the challenge walk away still longing for the feel of accomplishment at the end of a long technical rehearsal or the giddy joy of a standing ovation on opening night. A large part of what we deal in when creating a play or musical has to do with identifying obstacles presented in the text and finding creative and fun ways of presenting our characters’ journeys as they overcome them. For the last year, we’ve found that those obstacles have leapt off of the page and come at us, tooth and nail, on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. I feel that we, students and staff alike, have been successful at meeting those challenges thanks to a spirit of camaraderie and love. I also feel that sometimes those obstacles rolled over us like a runaway train. Regardless of outcome, it has been the journey with these amazing students and this amazing team of artists that has made it worth getting out of bed and facing those obstacles every day. As the light begins to glimmer at the edge of the horizon, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to both students and staff for their patience and care as they worked together tirelessly to creatively overcome all of the obstacles presented by the past year. I also wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the parents who have been so very, very patient and so very, very supportive over the past few months. Our community remains strong, even in the face of all of these obstacles. I look forward to the day when we all gather together again in the dark of the theatre to celebrate the diligence and creativity of these magnificent young people. Until that time… George Brock March 2021
