IN KHLONG TOEI... HOW CAN A COMMUNITY BE EMPOWERED?
THE “FORMAL”
RESIDENCES
This type of urban fabric is more developer based and is formally planned with the city government. It is composed of both apartment and single family homes for the middle class and upper middle class.
healthcare infrastructure Rethinking Healthcare Access The current healthcare system in Thailand does not meet the current needs of informal settlements. Informal settlements such as Klong Toei, Bangkok are not receiving the health care they so desperately need. Due to transportation, health care priorities, and doctor trust people are going untreated. My proposal seeks to tackle these shortcomings with a unique healthcare infrastructure. This system leverages the use of the rivers around bangkok and traditional medicine incentives. The approach looks KHLONG TO to decentralize healthcare and create trust TOEI between doctors and patients.
THE
HIGWAYS
In the 19th and 20th centuries Influence fromthe west along with a deep desire to modernize led Bangkok to create a road based transport system. The roads would typically follow the path of the nearby canals. As a result, the urban layers of transportation in Bangkok are very rich. It is not strange to see a road, next to a canal with a highway on top and homes underneath. It is a very beautiful form of urbancirculation and density that is very unique to the city.

The port has played an important part in the development of Thai economy, The port of Bangkok handles container traffic and influences the circulation and urban fabric of the nearby Klong Toei community. Crates, pallets, and all kinds of packaging can be found around the streets of the port and in the nearby Klong Toei community. Inhabitants often use these materials to extend portions of their homes with porches/balconies.

THE
SOCIAL
COMMUNITY
Khlong Toei is one of the largest and most prominent slums in Bangkok, stretching across a sizeable 2 square kilometers and home to about 100,000 people. The informal part of the district was first established in the 1950s when large numbers of people left their rural, agricultural lives in Northeastern Thailand and came to Bangkok with the idea of carving out a better life for themselves. RIVER
From its inception, Bangkok has always depended on the river. Whether this was as a form of transportation or a way toisolate the city and make it harder forforeign invaders to attack. The river was a socio-cultural hub were market, temple, parks, and people linked. It provided a source of income and social mobility, as inhabitants fished from it or used it asirrigation for crops.

design proposal The Florida Mall The Florida Mall is about a contemporary design that celebrates the ush Florida light and the warmth and character of elegant but durable materials. The intent of the renovation to balance the strong character of the existing new food pavilion and retail wing with the rest of the mall. Using a fresh, contemporary apparance and more natural light the mall’s interior will have a uniďŹ ed image.

interior architecture The Archer Group The Archer Group, a graphic design company, was looking for a new edgy office space. They had purchased two floors of an office building and where looking for a communicating stair between the two. Their request was that it have an industrial feel to it. Our team used this opportunity to create a collaborative stair which would act as an opportunity for communicating and presenting within the office. To create the industrial look they were seeking we left the structural columns exposed and used c-channels with metal risers and a cable railing system.

parking day Habitat for Humanity As part of my ongoing efforts with Habitat for Humanity I partnered with their ReStore committee to design and build a parking day installation. In order for our installation to embody the ReStore’s commitment to reclaimed items we only used items from their store. In our case refurbished screen doors, windows, patio doors. We created a green house that’s size could fit into a standard row home backyard. This ensured it would used even after parking day.

urban intervention Sosna Triangle Group The intersection of South & 23rd street posed a unique opportunity to alter the urban fabric of a historically signiďŹ cant node. This segmented portion of greys ferry is home to a horse trough from the mid 19th century. Since then it has been converted into a fountain for local residents to congregate around and enjoy. This triangular site has great potential for an urban intervention.

Interior Fit-out Hopewell Corporate Office This project was predominately utilizing Revit to its fullest potential. I surveyed 30,000 sq. ft. of corporate office space. Modeling the entire office building in Revit using my survey allowed me to quickly create 3D perspectives. These 3D perspectives based on our developed test fit was then rendered to create preliminary images. These images where then use to give the client a understand of the feel of the space.

urban design The Borough of Conshohoken Hector Street in Chonshohoken has been going through a revitalization starting with the re-pavement of the entire road. We were contacted to provide a design for continued improvements on the street scape. We proposed to create islands at intersections and midpoints along the road. These islands would not only act as speed control for vehicular trafďŹ c but also as planters for vegetation. Ultimately these islands work to mitigate storm water runoff as well as create moments of pause throughout the hard landscape of the surrounding area.

industrial architecture Workplace Environment Design We partnered with a manufacturing plant to provide a more holistic approach to their manufacturing facilities. Extensive research was done to provide statistical analysis on how to maximize the potential of manufacturing workplace. The approach was to redesign the plant to have a stronger ofďŹ ce to plant relationship. This research was then used to provide a preliminary design and a supporting document that discusses workplace environments.

design proposal Wrentham Village Outlet Mall The Wrentham Outlet Mall was a design proposal for the entire exterior landscaping and architecture of the mall. Working closely with a landscape architect we created a plan which incorporated more indigenous plants capable of handling the colder climate of Wrentham. These plants and vegetation create a meandering path that enhances the user circulation and connects the major intersections of the mall. At these intersection we also designed space for rest and relaxation all with the hopes of creating a more consistent look at the mall.

urban mobility Reshaping Urban Infrastructure Johannesburg, South Africa is still struggling with an apartheid ridden infrastructure. This infrastructure segregates low income areas of the city. Alexandria township has been the most effected by the lack of resources within the community. Alex currently has little access to the center of Johannesburg where most economic activity exists. My design approach seeks to tap into the current public transportation system to bridge the gap in urban mobility. Additionally the infrastructure works to create micro-economics within Alex.
