Personal Biography I am a third-year at the University of Cincinnati studying Urban Planning and Development. I am pursuing planning and development as a profession because I want to use both critical thinking and artistic visioning to enhance people’s sense of community while creating more sustainable ways of development for the future. I grew up in a town right outside of Columbus Ohio called Upper Arlington. While at Upper Arlington I was named 2018 Male-Artist of the year for our district in Central Ohio. I graduated in May of 2018 ready and excited to tackle a new challenge, Urban Planning. During my first year at Cincinnati I joined a fraternal organization, Beta Theta Pi where I am the current Vice President of Communications. During my first year I raised over 800 dollars towards the philanthropic organization Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to help fund research for Pancreatic Cancer. While thriving in my new home of Cincinnati I began to really love the site planning and development aspect of Urban Planning. Not only because of the thrill of designing but, because of the lasting impact you can have on the dynamic of the community you are developing in. I gained a full year’s worth of professional planning experience with Fischer Homes, working for their development company Grand Communities LLC. Now, I am ready to tackle on new opportunities wherever they may rise.

Freshman Year 2018 Studio

University of Cincinnati - Pathways Map In my first ever studio, we started off by hand drawing all of the pathways in and around campus. One of the main reasons for this exercise is to manually and visually see and feel the differences in pathways.

University of Cincinnati - Approachability of Buildings Through Green Space This first semester case study is based off of options regarding how approachable buildings are with the green space surrounding them. Through this process I determined what levels of open space, shrubbery, landscaping, and forestry created the best sense of place and made the building most approachable.

Over-The-Rhine, Ohio- Sensory Mapping

Over-The-Rhine, Ohio- Auto-CAD Cross Section

Oakley, Ohio- Transportation Network Map

Sensory mapping was one of the first steps in understanding the dynamic of the community we were observing. In this exercise, as shown above, there are all different types of pedestrian nodes, landmarks, land uses that help identify the overall character of the community.

Our first exercise in Auto-CAD as planning undergraduates was to create a cross section of a street in our case study city OverThe-Rhine in Cincinnati. This cross section was of a paint store and a apartment building.

GIS Mapping is one of the most useful tools to understand movements of cities. In this exercise i looked at the transportation network of Oakley, a small town outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sophomore Year 2019 Studio

Middletown, Ohio- Conceptual Plan After my initial site analysis I took my evaluation and created a very conceptual, free, and fast plan that allowed my brain to initiate a process for me to identify the future characteristics of this community.

Middletown, Ohio- Initial Site Analysis My first land use studio consisted of analyzing and planning a site in rural Middletown, Ohio. My first step was to identify what about the land made it unique and how that uniqueness propelled development. The next step in this exercise was evaluating the positive and negative externalities and how those would impact the potential development.

Sophomore Year 2019 Studio

Middletown, Ohio- Comprehensive Site Suitability Analysis At the end of our studio, my final task was to complete a development plan that encompassed all of my semesters studies, analysis’, and concept plans. Through many zoning regulation, collaboration with peers I finally settled on the development plan below which is hand drawn to scale.

Middletown, Ohio- Comprehensive Site Suitability Analysis In a bold step I challenged myself to try and execute an exhibit that showed how suitable for development each part of the site was. The way that I tackled this task was by creating a acre square chart that I overlaid on top of a aerial photo of the site. This comprehensive analysis had three different judging factors. The first was Commercial, the second was Open Space, and the third was Residential. When going through each acre square I had to come up with a way to legibility show all of this analysis. That is why I created this chart in order for readers of this exhibit to be able to comprehend what was going on. This was a valuable experience that I had because, it really gave me the time and space to value and understand each parcel of this property.
