Many years ago in Pumapungo, located in Cuenca, which was the preferred resting and entertainment destination for the Inca emperors, this place had a sacred fountain that was for the exclusive use of the emperor which was decorated with impressive stone statues and many roses and large trees.
The people who went to that place were cared for by maidens known as the Virgins of the Sun, who from a very young age were trained in different arts and skills such as dance, singing, painting among others that they used to entertain the emperors. Among the maidens there was one that stood . out among the others because she was very beautiful, her name was Nina, she was the favorite of the Inca emperors since she had an exceptional voice and her dances were magnificent, practically the activities of the maidens stood out in all.
Nina always went every morning to the church that was next to her house, but one of those mornings she met Bartolome outside the church, she had asked him who he was since it was a very small town to which he replied that he was a priest who was going to replace the usual priest for that day, he was very young since he had just been ordained.

The first time that Bartolome saw Nina, he was struck by her beauty and from that day on they fell in love, but he lived far from that place in another town, as his love could not be. Nina he told him about a place where they could see each other and no one would discover them. . Every night with a full moon they met in the gardens of that place and stayed there for several hours until dawn since it was a forbidden love, Bartolome left a rose in the fountain every night before seeing each other so that Nina would know that she was already there in the place waiting for her.

The emperor ordered one of his subjects to chase her to find out why she had rejected him, one day with a full moon Nina and Bartolome met in the gardens at midnight and one of the emperor's subjects saw them, so the emperor's subject went immediately to tell what had happened. In the next meeting Nina was delayed to see her beloved due to one of the emperor's demands, since it was all a plan to end Bartholomew's life, when Nina arrived at the place, he was not there, so she thought he was gone because of her delay.
